“Visit before it's too late!”
Reviewed 23 January 2013

This is THE plce to stay if you plan to visit Dahab, blue hole etc. it's a 15 min walk or cheap cab ride from the noisy centre of Dahab so very peacefull. Built on the site of the old marine observatory it has its own coral reefs, beach even a freshwater pool. I've been back many times on my own and with my family. But inevitably others are starting to develop this strech of coast so go soon before it's charm is lost!

My partner Chris and I recently spent two weeks at the Daniela Hotel. From our arrival until we left on Xmas Eve, the staff at the hotel were always ready to help and did everything they could to make our stay enjoyable and relaxing. The setting of the hotel is superb, perched between the ever-changing vistas of the mountains and the blue sea, itself covering an undiscovered kaleidoscopic world of its own. Apart from passing camels and their riders, the peace and quiet is almost palpable - an oasis of calm in the mad world of economic and political turbulence we experience in Europe.

I have always loved Egypt and its people, having travelled there many times for both work and play - however, following a change of career into medicine, I last visited Cairo almost twenty years ago. The staff at the Daniela reminded me of all the terrific people I knew in Egypt and their inimitable Egyptian way of looking at life. Our stay at the Daniela hotel, interacting with all its employees in Dahab, presented a very positive image of both Egyptian hospitality and the generosity and dignity of its people - this is all the more commendable in these more troubled and uncertain times.

The hotel bathrooms could benefit from updating but who expects power showers in the desert? By dint of an extended stay, the buffet food did become somewhat "samey" but always prepared with care and attention. We have eaten in 2 and 3 star Michelin restaurants in other countries and our expectations have usually been as well met as they were at the Daniela. Despite the lamentable lack of guests before Xmas due to the inexorable grinding of the political machine in Cairo, the chef and his team continued to produce and serve appetising meals with enthusiasm - well done.

The Daniela Diving Centre will be reviewed separately - I must comment the team of Ahmed, Mohammed and Ali once again to the hotel owner - they are a credit to you. I spent six years working throughout the Gulf States, the Levant and Egypt and the diving team reminded me of how much I miss spending time in the Arab World. As I have always found, working with Egyptians does have an inherent charm which is both entertaining and reassuring.

Chris would not forgive me if I did not mention that the addition of a jetty onto the reef would be a very welcome addition to the Daniela's attractions. In two weeks we never managed to co-ordinate with the tidal timings to allow us to swim out to the reef drop-off - when visiting friends in a nearby hotel, we used both of their jetties to do just this!

This property and its staff do everything to make one feel "at home", welcomed warmly into a safe environment, an escape from the stress and troubles of life here in public service in the NHS and charity sectors. Thank you very much for that.

Room Tip: First floor rooms have a domed ceiling and good-sized balconies with sea views. Ground floor rooms...

We stayed in this hotel the first week of december. We enjoyed it very much. Beautiful location with private beach and house reef in front of the hotel. White buildings in egyptian style. You feel in another world (when you come from Europe). Friendly and helpful staff. Delicious food. This hotel has only 40 rooms all with seaview. We stayed in the first floor with nice balcony and great view over the Red Sea. Quiet surrounding but only 10 taxi minutes from the centre of Dahab. The only thing I disliked is they have no wifi in the hotel. You can use the computer in the lobby but for me it was not convenient.

Room Tip: We stayed in 207, but all rooms have sea view.

I had a pleasant stay at Daniela Village. Staff helps you with everything. Although i have little experience to compare with, the diving centre and its personel was serious, safe and professional. We had the pleasure to work with Achmed, who was a very experienced and relaxed instructor. Make sure you do a dessert trip.

Daniela is one of the most peaceful, beautiful, friendly places we have ever found. A truly warm genuine welcome awaits you from Hageg and his staff.

We stayed in Daniela on our first trip to Dahab and we're very pleasantly surprised. The food is of very good standard, the rooms were cleaned well and amusing towel animals made the return to the room after a hard day on the beach, became a guessing game of what will it be today?

Chris and Maria (London)

The diving centre and staff are excellent and knowledgeable of the local spots and always happy to have a chat about the days trip, the next days agenda or just for information about Dahab itself and where to eat etc. The drives in the jeeps to the dive sites are enjoyable especially if you are lucky enough to share a car with Faizer (a 3 year old Formula One driver in the making!)

However, the thing that makes this hotel truly memorable is the house reef - what a joy to snorkel over the coral, the fish life is wide and varied, and the current is easy to handle for all levels of swimming ability. (Ask for the life jacket if you are nervous ;-))

We enjoyed the hotel so much we returned this year, and plan to return many more times in the future.

Nothing beats Bedouin Tea, (excellently prepared by Hamed) and a cold beer on the beach in this hotel while watching the sun set over the mountain backdrop.

We have just got back from a week's stay at Daniela Village which was one of our very best trips in a long career. The setting is wonderful - set back from a quiet road with a backdrop of rugged Sinai hills. There are about 40 generously-spaced and comfortable rooms with AC, bathroom and balconies (upper floor) or terraces (lower floor). The upper floor rooms are best for views and privacy. The rooms could do with some upgrading of fixtures and fittings - particularly in the bathrooms - but, hey, how much time are you going to spend in there when there is hot weather, a lovely beachfront with loungers and sunshades and, best of all a couple of acres of coral reef on your doorstep where we saw a stunning variety of wildlife including stingrays and lionfish.

Food is excellent (apart from the instant coffee - bring a cafetiere and some filter coffee) though the restaurant feels more like a canteen. The chef prepares a different buffet selection every evening. The staff are great - Manager Mr Hagag being a friendly, hands-on guy who is always around.

Whilst we were there the was a cataclysmic 2 hour rainstorm which tested the drainage systems on the balconies and elsewhere to destruction. The staff, wearing improvised plastic bags as raingear ( it has only ever rained like this once in the last three years) raced around with mops and racelets doing their best to keep the floods from the rooms. Cheerful heroes, all!

We really loved our stay here - particularly as there were a lot of Dutch visitors at the time of our stay whom we always find to be lovely, friendly people. Definitely coming again and bringing friends and family.

Room Tip: Go for an upper floor room where the sun is not always directly on the balcony

Having travelled to Egypt many times and stayed in some of the top hotels, my wife and I were not expecting a great deal from this small hotel. However, it turned out to be a little gem and gave us one of the best fortnights in Egypt to date. In summary, although in need of a spot if tlc in places, the hotel is impeccably run, set amongst the beautiful desert mountains in a very peaceful area just outside Dahab. There is an excellent dive centre and a rather fantastic house reef straight off the beach front. The staff cannot do enough for you, nothing is too much trouble and the food is excellent and plentiful (thanks to the brilliant Mustapha and his brother, the chefs). Hagag, the manager is fantastic and his staff happily work as a team to ensure that your stay is the best it can be. Need we say more?
