This hotel is such a find, we will definitely return here. The location is superb - I made sure I was up at 6am most days to watch the sunrise - something else! We like to spend most of our holiday doing absolutely nothing, and the Tropitel is perfect for this - no-one trying to push you into this trip and that adventure, they just tell you where to come when you're ready.
The bar and waiting staff are very hard working and, as the hotel is understaffed - very overstretched! - but they still take the time to make you feel like you are their only guests - hats off to those guys.
There is no evening entertainment but Mohaa the barman creates a fantastic atmosphere in the bar with his wonderful sense of humour and delightful smile - a real asset to this hotel and I hope they recognise it soon!
Everywhere was clean, the room was spacious and comfortable - I loved the Queen size bed with it's firm mattress - best 14 nights sleep in years. Clean sheets and towels every day. Our room attendant was amazing - his towel art was fantastic, we had hearts, flowers, swans, crocodiles, and all so beautifully presented, nice touch!
The dining hall itself is a bit 'canteeny' but there is plenty of choice, I was in food heaven as I love fresh fruit and salads - and there was an abundence of these. Breakfast was especially good - the breads and pastries were delicious, plenty of choice for hot food, also cheese, ham, terrines - you could have something different every day for a month. Although for main meals there was plenty of choice of 'accompaniments' there was usually only about 2 main protein dishes, which were a bit samey day to day - chicken and fish, fish and beef, chicken and beef etc. generally cooked in the same way, although some nights we had homemade burgers/bbq/wraps, which were excellent.
We didn't have a problem with the AI rules about wine only at meal times - the wine was very tasty and if we sat around drinking it all day we would never have made the sunrise and delicious breakfast :-)
My one and only gripe - the health spa is expensive - more than you would pay in the UK. I found the spa sales-girl over pushy (my only experience of this at the hotel for the whole holiday), I negotiated a fairly reasonable deal in the end, but I particularly didn't like being pushed into a further sale immediately after just having a 2 hour treatment - really bad timing! But the masseurs were lovely and the massage very good, which made up for it.
One bit of advice - go prepared for mosquito bites if you're prone!

The first impression you get of this hotel is how helpful and friendly the staff are. Secondly (once it was light) how stunning the location is and how pretty the hotel grounds are. The rooms are perfectly acceptable and very clean. The beds are quite hard but I prefer this so wouldn't complain. There was one occasion (in 2 weeks) when we were unable to get hot water but otherwise had no problems and the bathroom was nice with a good shower (no bath). The staff who clean the rooms have the most amazing skills at fashioning towels into various flowers and birds and the scene we came back to on a couple of occasions was stunning!

I thought for a typical all inclusive buffet style restaurant, the food was very good. I am a vegetarian and didn't have any problem finding nice things to eat. At breakfast there is hot and cold options, freshly made omelettes with whatever you want in them, and plenty of pastries to choose from. Lunch and dinner would always have plenty of salad and bread as well as several meat and vegetable options as well as a pasta station where you could choose whatever you wanted on your pasta as they cooked it for you. There was always plenty of desserts too although to be honest they mostly taste quite similar. We met some people who refused to eat the salad in case it had been washed in dirty water but I ate salad every single day and it was not only delicious but i didn't get ill at all! The waiters are friendly but occasionally they seem a bit short staffed so there can be a wait for things like drinks. There is also a bit of a shortage of cups and glasses on occasions so they could do with buying another bulk load rather than having to do several dishwasher loads during a meal time! However, these were very minor problems that only happened on occasion so I wouldn't say it distracted too much from the overall impression which was very positive.

The bar staff were helpful, especially the lovely manager Mohammed (who also makes the best cocktails). Don't go to Egypt hoping to drink decent wine unless you're prepared to pay a fortune for it! I stuck to beer and the occasional cocktail and was very happy!

There is no entertainment at this hotel but personally I prefer that as its a small hotel and it would be hard to get away from it if you didn't like it. We had no problem enjoying ourselves reading, chatting and playing cards. At this time of year the sun is gone by 4 and its completely dark by 6pm but in the daytime it is really warm by 9.30am or so, so actually we had quite a lot of 'early to bed, early to rise' occasions when we had day trips or were going diving. If a brilliant nightlife is an important part of your holiday, don't come here. If you want to relax and are happy to entertain yourselves, it's perfect.

The hotel is about 15 mins by bus into Dahab and the hotel runs a shuttle bus that goes 2 hourly. You could walk to Dahab if you wanted but its probably not the nicest walk. A better one is to go in the other direction along the beach to the Blue Hole. You'll pass a lot of jeeps taking divers to the dive sites and a LOT of camels (with their owners) wanting to give you rides! We walked there and got a camel back (I think the walking was quicker, but the camel definitely more fun!)

I had a really lovely 2 weeks here and would definitely come back and would recommend others to come here too. The pics on here give you a good idea of what the place is like and as long as you have realistic expectations you will have a fab time!

We had a lovely 2 weeks Jan 4-18 2013 in this resort! The staff were super friendly nothing was too much trouble! The resort was clean. Snorkeling was amazing! Food was brilliant! Would recommend this hotel to everyone! It was lovely and quiet in the evenings compared to Sharmel Shiekh The Blue whole is a 45 min walk but worth it to go snorkeling in. We never ventured into Dahab itself as we were content to snorkel in the sea and swim in the heated pool. Only thing was in the evening there are mosquitoes so bring bug dope!

Room Tip: The rooms only had twin beds that were not able to be put together but all rooms had sea views

Have just returned from a week long AI stay here and back through flight delays/ cancellations and snow bound airports. Never been to the area before as we don't do beach holidays and have previously very happily done Nile Cruise breaks at this time of year. I just wanted somewhere hot and colourful to simply relax and recoup. We did not want a big hotel/ complex with lots of activities and did not want any hassle from tradesman/ sellers. The Tropitel at Dahab fits the bill perfectly.
The staff were great, smiley and polite, the hotel was good and the location perfect. Ok, the reception area/ main bar did not have much ambience, the musak was repetative,(but not widespread, and the all-inclusive local drinks tasted as only 'local; drinks can. The dining room could have a bit more style. The food was ok, well cooked and something for everyone but nothing to make you want to over indulge.
The big deal was the location and scale. Not too big, an hour transfer north from Sharm and all its action, surrounded by stark, jagged mountains, yet located on the beach with beautiful green gardens, nice pools and well planned layout. A good mix of clients, from Russian/ Bulgarian/ Dutch/ German/ English and lots of Egyptian families there for the weekend. All age ranges, so a few small children, young and older couples, keen divers and people with wheelchair needs. Most rooms have balconies which you can see and hear the sea and camels from. Sun beds were around the pool with another tranche on the beach, separated by wicker screens. If you wanted more activities there is a spa and also camels were available right on the beach to ride. You can also hire really good horses to ride along the beach but the main activity has to be from the dive centre, with all manner of fish visible from the pier. I saw people snorkelling, scuba dive, kite surf and the hotel has a free shuttle to take you into Dahab if you need more activity. All in all it ticked all our boxes. If you are a foody or really picky over AI drinks then this would not be for you. No mosquito problem although every evening at dusk the ran a smoke treatment for them.

This hotel is set in quiet peaceful surroundings outside dahab. This worked for us because some days we simply wanted to relax - others we wanted to head in to dahab to dive or relax there. The hotel reef is amazing and has good access to prevent damage to the reef. The hotel doesn't have night entertainment but we quite liked that - it meant it was quiet ion an evening and we chatted, played cards etc.

The hotel is a little tired but the management are upgrading the place at the moment. The food was really good and the beer, cold and in decent sized glasses. The wine is only available at meal times but you are told this (so why moan about it later?!) and generally the wine isn't great in this region, so be prepared to try something else at other times. If wine is a must then try essence in dahab ( a brasserie in dahab centre - take the free shuttle but wine is expensive in Egypt and imported). The staff in the restaurant work hard - the manager knows they are slightly short staffed and I hope they recruit more staff before the busy period ahead. The food was really good, fresh salad, freshly made pasta, choice if many deserts and fruit. Considering the price it was excellent value.

The pool was hot when we were there - actually we jumped in after snorkelling to warm up! There was a fuel problem in Egypt when we arrived - we witnessed this at sharm airport with massive queues for fuel and later in dahab with vehicles stocking fuel in two tanks. I would accept the managers explanation therefore for turning off the pool heating - and the sea was a consistent 23 degrees when diving - perfectly acceptable.

The rooms are a little tired and I think some reviews are unrealistic in what they expect. It's a 4 star Egypt hotel - at Egypt prices. Don't expect a 4 star London hotel - if you want this budget to spend that in sharm instead! This is a very good value hotel - in a beautiful location, walkable from the blue hole. We loved it - but we're not serial complainers! :-)

We're two single females under 35, who have travelled extensively (and one of us has lived in the Middle East) and we were sold this holiday as a great way to spend Christmas and New Year in an all inclusive luxuary environment. The reality was very different!

We arrived late on Christmas Eve and wanted to eat something small before going to bed. They said we'd have to eat in the main 'christmas' tent as the restaurant was closed. It was beautifully done up and the food was well presented but we were asked to sign for drinks and food. The food was very fancy but very European and nothing overly recognisable. It appears that all Christmas celebrations happen on Christmas Eve as Christmas day was low key and without fuss. We found the food to be below average, repetative and bland (although well presented and very clean).

The staff on the whole were very friendly, however some of the male chefs and waiting staff were persistant and relentless in their advances, chat about us in Egyptian to each other when we were present and invasion of personal space. This was extremely uncomfortable at times so the extent that we stopped wearing make up and covered up (even though we were barely showing any flesh). As stated before, we've both travelled extensively and are aware of other cultures and are respectful of them but this was too much. The woman who sold the massages was helpful at first but did quote a different price to the one we were charged after the massage and in the company of a large man with her. She then harrassed us around the pool, in the dining room and on the beach to book again. The website states 'laze in peace by the pool' however we found it to be the complete opposite. At one point, while trying to ignore the goings on around and with ear phones in and reading a book, a staff member came over and removed the book from my hands. This was constant whether it be to try to flirt with us or get us to book a trip or service. The quad bike, shop and reception staff were excellent and very respectful and helpful.

The room was basic but clean. The beds were not very comfortable and balanced on concrete slabs. The shower leaked all over the floor each time it was used, the toilet took 3 attempts to flush but the room cleaning service was good.

ALL INCLUSIVE - NO WAY!!! We brought minimal money apart from funds for trips and gifts. We were told that it was all inclusive including Christmas Day and New Year's Eve celebrations. In reality we were charged for drinks on Christmas Eve in the eating tent, we were charged for the food that evening, we were charged extra for wine (if drunk outside the restaurant), fruit juice in the morning, cocktails and BOTTLED WATER!! The snacks were non existant during the day and one was available at 11.30pm! We were charged for WiFi and playing pool. There was ZERO entertainment in the hotel so the nights were long and very very quiet.

We were booked for 10 days. We paid our airline an extra £50 each to return home after 5 days!!!! This including our new year celebrations! On hearing we were leaving early, the manager asked what was wrong and whether we'd leave a good review on trip advisor!! ALARM BELLS!!!

On the bus to the airport we spoke to another couple from the same hotel who'd paid £200 to be transferred to another hotel for the duration of their stay because they felt similarly to us and had only stayed 1 night!!

This hotel works if you like snorkling, dont mind being quite remote, are attached (and with a partner), arent looking for entertainment at night and are not looking for a true all inclusive experience.

I would like to emphasis that some of the staff were very helpful, respectful and good at their jobs though.

I just read your review and i would like to awnser it, first why you dint mention this all when you where here then i could take action immediately.? You arived on Christmas eve, our restaurant was closed because of Christmas eve, but you could enter the tent and have a lot of choice for the buffet. you say nothing was recognisble, i dont know what you mean by this but if you see the photos i am sure their was a lot of choice. Who ask you to pay for food, because this was all inclusive ??? concerning the drinks yes, because it was extra to our AI, our lobby bar was open for the All inclusive drinks! Why you dint mention it to me that you need to pay extra for food?? . About the staff who was very friendly, this i will take care about it that it will not happen again, but you dont need to mention that you need cover yourself or show any FLESH!!! Concerning the All inclusive, yes wine we serve only in restaurant, and fresh juices is also not in the All inclusive what is normal every where. Cocktails fresh , yes, but bottle of water ,no, you received 2 small bottles in the room when you arrive and after refill them on the dispensers. Snack always on the swimming pool at 4.30 and in the evening on the lobby bar. it is not a big buffet, but just a few snacks to stop the hunger. entertainment, yes we dont have, but this is the choice from our guest, they want to keep the peace in the hotel to don't destroy it by loud music, and it is mention in a lot of reviews. .I ask you to put a review, yes, but i ask all my guest, i dont ask the guest to write a lie!!!! i ask them to put the truth, but if you had all of this why you dint mention anything of this you wrote when you where here?????
But thank you any way, some points i will look for it and if it happen i will sure will take my action
