Reviewed 6 November 2011

We stayed at Three Corners Ocean View Hotel from Friday 7th to Friday 14th October 2011 and there were 6 of us.

When we got off the plane it wasn't really clear where we were supposed to get our Visa's and some people were getting them at a different price by using the Thomas Cook stand, once the locals caught on that's what we were doing they ushered us all back into the original queue. But on average you'll pay £11-£15 for your Visa.

We arrived at the hotel by around 10.00pm and had a lovely greeting in reception, which must be customary in Egypt as we also got this when we arrived at Sharm earlier in the year, with a drink. There was a bell boy who took our luggage to our rooms for us. I think this is a really nice touch at the end of a plane journey. The hotel had also kept their buffet restaurant open for us so we could have something to eat, great stuff!

The following morning when we got up and looked out over the balcony WOW it is amazing. The views are fantastic. The lagoons are beautiful. The hotel does a free boats trip, which last an hour, around them too.

You can book this trip through the Customer Relations Desk. One of the women is really helpful and polite the other was really miserable but perhaps she was having a bad day.

The buffet restaurant food is adequate but I wouldn't say it was outstanding. There was plenty of choice of starters, mains, salads and deserts but I still found on a couple of occasions I could take or leave it. The staff are very helpful and always ensured there was a table for the 6 of us to sit together.

There is 2 a la carte restuarants with an italian and a belguim theme but bizarrely it is the same restaurant under the same roof. So basically you sit in the same place but can have either menu?! The food is absolutely fantastic, cannot be faulted, and the staff are fun, polite and very friendly.

We celebrated a friends birthday and our wedding anniversary whilst we were all in El Gouna. We were given a heart shaped cake and ate in the a la carte restuarant where the staff serenaded by the staff and given a cake with candles. Also it was our friends 27th birthday, she was given a cake by the hotel, another by the restuarant, flowers picked by one of the pool attendants and cocktails in the peanut bar. They really went all out to make sure we all had a good time, which we did.

We had lots of fun with Siead by the pool and he was really helpful when a couple of our group had fallen ill with a stomach bug so thank you :-).

The animation team (Hero, Gareth and Rowena) were also great fun and provided us with lots of entertainment doing darts, bowling and water aerobics everyday. With Quizzies and Bingo in the evening. Unfortunately their evening theatre shows left a lot to be desired and most people, including us, left to seek their own entertainment.

The pool area was lovely and we went to visit the other pool area with the big posh beds. It was lovely but we were told by other guests that if you wanted a day there we would have to get there for 8am for a bed. I can understand why it was in demand, it was tranquil and lovely. Fortunately for everyone we didn't use the area as being a group of 6 we were quite noisey. So we stayed at the other pool where they played music :-).

All in all we had an amazing time, thank you Three Corners!!

xxx

The hotel is located on the edge of the Abu Tig Marina and location can not be faulted. However the hotel is split over two buildings with very different facilities. The main hotel (Soleil) is the better of the two and is where the bar and restaurant etc are located. Unfortunately I was located in the other section (Du Pont) which had no facilities and actually resembled student's accomodation from the corridors which were bare and not very welcoming. The first room I was given was immediately above a nightclub making any attempt at sleep impossible until about 4am. Fair play I was given another room in the same building but did have to request this on a number of accoassions before it happened.
I was disappointed with the quality and choice of the food which was nothing special. In fact if I was to return there I would not go all inclusive as there was an abundance of rather tempting restaurants in the marina which would have been nice to try if I hadn't already payed for my food.
I did like the fact that of the two swimming pools one was designated as a quiet one whilst the other allowed games and music.

Room Tip: Ask for a room in the Soleil building

Encouraged by the many good reviews we booked the Ocean View. The hotel is located in two buildings but the Soleil building is the one with the best location with the Du Port building being some distance away. The two are quite different and anyone getting rooms in the Du Port may feel short changed because it is surrounded by roads, has no external public space or garden and only the pool area which is quite crowded. Too many rooms have no outside view and many have no balcony. The details refer to "French Balcony" but this is simply not a proper balcony. (It's a triumph of style over function) All package customers pay the same but the quality of the rooms available is very different. The rooms we experienced were clean and well serviced but did need to be refurbished. We were allocated a room over the Peanuts Bar which was very noisy and our request for a room change was met with a reluctance to provide an adequate alternative. However, escalating the problem to the hotel management made possible what reception found difficult to achieve.

The pool areas and the "beach" are not adequate for the number of guests and many found themselves walking around the marina to a free beach but where the food and drink was chargeable. The hotel beach is located a short mini bus drive away. Don't bother, it's in a nuclear wasteland, there is 50 metres of rough scrub to cross to get to the beach and the water is barely knee high for as far as can be seen. Kite boarders also tend to dominate the water. Alcholic drinks are chargeable here also.

The catering is basically "mass cafeteria", it is not restaurant quality. The food is unimaginative, repetetive and simply average. The space available comes under pressure when everyone decides to eat at the same time. The two "a la carte" restaurants provide a better product but since they occupy the opposite corners of the same room atmosphere is lacking. If you want to eat well, eat out! The dine around programme is helpful (three discounted meals for two at independent restaurants during a two week stay) and Abu Tig Marina does have a good selection of restaurants to provide for everyone. But if you've paid for all inclusive............!!

The staff are however excellent. They are attentive, friendly and helpful (I'm assuming reception were programmed to respond as they did). Most of them are young and respond well to a bit of chat.

It is though a restful area and a very good location. The hotel must be getting it right for some because I understand that there is a 25% return rate. Those in the know send e-mails requesting particular rooms and return guests tend to get their wish granted. This does place the first timer at a disadvantage though doesn't it?

Would we return? Only if we could guarantee a room with a balcony and a sea view and if the food offerring was much improved because it is an excellent location for those seeking a bit of quiet in their resort.

Room Tip: If you have a choice ask for a room with balcony and sea view (the marina view rooms are OK but thos...

As part of our holiday the last nine nights were spent at the "Three Corners Ocean View". The previous week we had been on a 'Nile Cruise' and we thought, to go to the Red Sea would be a restful climax!.

Unfortunately we got off to a poor start. We had paid an extra £50 each for a sea view but what we actually got was a downstairs room overlooking the swimming pool, buffet bar on the left and the busy animation team on the right. There was no sun at all at any part of the day. A very gloomy room and no sign of the sea!!. and very very windy. When l went to the reception l was told we had been given the room as we were old!!!. Oh dear!. The next room we were given was by the 'Peanuts bar' The noise from 11-3.30am was dreadful. The next day l was back in reception requesting another room. We got another room but could not move in till five in the afternoon as the loo was faulty. We lost almost three days of our holiday. We also lost two pairs of shorts, l expect we left them in one of the rooms due to all the messing about.

The rest of the holiday was uneventful. Food was of a good quality, l think most people would be able to find something they liked. There was a shuttle type bus which took you to a small private beach, there was usually a breeze there and you could have your lunch, a nice touch.

Would we go back to Egypt, yes. Would we go back to the hotel, NO

Room Tip: Ask for a sea view - make sure you get one especially if you paid extra for it.

As part of our trip around Egypt we stopped here for 5 nights on the final leg of our cruise and 2 nights in Cairo, this was our 'treat' and relaxation part of the holiday.

We were booked in and quickly shown to our room, which was OK it wasn't poor nor brilliant. It was spacious, nice bathroom and very clean. We used two of the pool areas, one which is ajoined to the sea and the other which is a circular pool on the bay with beds around it. The one next to the sea was always quite busy as that's where most of the activies were done but was a nice location looking out of the sea but we spent most of our time in the other area which was really relaxing and quite.

The food was OK and there was always a large selection of food on offer so really can't complain! We ate at some of the other restaurants on the hotels complex with one being a pizza place again which was OK and we got a good discount as well...BONUS!

One problem is that we were on all inclusive and it was often difficult to get served for a drink, in the end we ended up leaving the hotel to find drinks else where.

El Gouna itself is quite nice and it's different to the other resorts especially Sharm and Hurrgardha as they are more orientated around partying and drinking, El Gouna was more civilised and chilled out.

If you are looking for a place to really relax and not be hassled, then this place is perfect. Having stayed in Sharm, I would say El Gouna is a much nicer place. The Animation Team and the Bar Waiters made us feel very welcome and these people together with the location of the holiday made it feel very special. However, the actual facilities and in particular the rooms really need a lot of attention, and I have to say I have stayed in 3 star hotels that were much better. Furthermore, the food in the restaurant was poor from both quality and variety point of view and the service was not brilliant. Would I go back again? Possibly but not sure. I do think they need to eithe reduce the price or improve quality to convince me.
