Almost made the mistake of requesting a hotel change prior to our visit following some of the reviews - thank goodness we didn't! On previous visits to Egypt my daughter and I have stayed in 5 star accomadation in Luxor so the Dawar El Omda had a lot to live up to, and I'm pleased to say that it well and truly did!!
What a wonderful gem this place is. It has a charming shabby chic quality and the location is stunning. Quiet; intimate; first class, non intrusive service; lovely touches such as daily treats from the kitchen (those kiwi tarts were to die for!), wet face flannels, fruits and sorbets round the pool were a lovely surprise and much appreciated. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff who were always checking that you were happy with things.
Thank you so much to all the staff for making our stay so special - I am confident you will do the same when we return next year!

Spent 11 nights here and cant wait to go back! i love el gouna anyway, this was our 2nd time and the hotel was nice n peaceful, really clean, very pretty, and such nice staff, so friendly and helpful.
theres a shuttle boat that takes you to a zaytouna beach which is really nice for a bit more life and activity! lots of water sports down there and a nice couple o resturants. you could actualy swim to it from the hotel!
our room was a deluxe & really spacious nicely furnished too, massive comfy bed, good shower and a big balcony looking over the lagoon ......... lovely!
we only went b&b as we like to go out to eat and the square is a realy good place to eat ( the henna) but the brekky was good, the usual stuff.
if you like to dive the boys at www.dive connection.com are the best! they are really lovely people, spesh `sayed` he was our instructor, he really looked after us and is so funny! lunch on the boat was yummy and the dive sites were stunning, posiedon gardens was my favorite, just beautiful.
We had visits from dolphins on 2 out of 3 days! fantastic, they stayed with us for 25 mins one day!
Thrers a beach club opposite the hotel which we spent quite a bit of time at, they serve great food & cocktails, play good music, have a good size infinity pool and great double sunloungers & hammocks! showers and nice clean washrooms, really pretty place. A girl called rebbecca makes organic face creams & stuff in the spa there too, i got some lovely products from her.
all in all a fantastic holiday, cant wait to book the dawar el omda again for next year.

Room Tip: room 215 was great, but i would imagine they are all nice, very quiet hotel

This was my husband and I's second time, in 1 year, visiting El Gouna. The first time, we stayed a very nice 3-star hotel in the Abu Tig Marina. This time around, we thought we'd treat ourselves and "upgrade" to a 4-star hotel. We specifically chose Dawar El Omda Hotel because of all the good reviews.

I will not go into all the gory details of our experience at Dawar El Omda Hotel. However, you should be aware that this is not a real 4-star hotel. The "deluxe king room" was small, dirty, dark, and falling apart overall.

Our prepaid reservation was for 10 nights. We spent only 1 night at this hotel and decided that we would rather lose the money on the next 9 nights than ruin our holiday. In the end, we paid for a SECOND hotel for the rest of the 9 nights of our stay in El Gouna.

Buyer beware! Believe me, it is worth paying $10 more

Dear Mrs. Kathy Gluck,

first of all let me thank you for your review of our hotel and express my dissapointment that you did not enjoy your stay with us. We take customer satisfaction very serious and will go out of our way to achieve it.

Upon receiving your review we immediately checked the room you stayed in and unfortunately did not find the situation as you described it. Maybe some explanation is in order.

Our hotel mainly offers 2 kinds of rooms, standard and deluxe. The difference between both is their location and view (garden or lagoon). In our hotel not 1 room has the same size. They vary from rather small to rightout very big. Very popular amongst our numerous repeater guests are the ground floor rooms (who are the smaller type) because of their direct access to the lagoon beach. Such a room was allocated to you with the best of intentions.

You left the hotel without checking out or informing anyone of your departure. Because you left the 'do-not-disturb' sign on the doorknob (our cleaning staff cannot enter the room in such cases) we only found out you had departed on your booked departure day when we were obliged to enter the room.

I can only express my regrett for the chance we both missed to reach your fullest satisfaction. Had you informed us we could have easily offered you another (big) room. Had you still not liked our offerings we would have been happy to assist you in finding another hotel. We work for the benefit of our customers and El Gouna as a destination, not just our hotel. We even would have refunded, at least partially, your reservation. Had you only informed us of your valued opinion.

I can only hope that maybe one day you might give us a chance at letting you experience Dawar El Omda as the beatiful, relaxing place it is.

Best regards.

Had a fantastic time.
Staff friendly and always want to help.
Marina easy to get to and takes less than 5 minutes in a handy Tok Tok rise which arrive within a few minutes when reception orders them for you.
We also never had a problem getting back as 4 or 5 are always waiting in the Marina.
Beach is a 1 minute walk over the the road to Sulten Bay for the hourly boat to take you.
We only stayed breakfast so can't comment on meal time food, but we enjoyed the breakfast.
Rooms were clean, we were groundfloor and the ants did get a bit too much a couple of times however.
My dad had a couple of massages and enjoyed them very much.
Lots of bars and nightlife is a handy 5 minute walk for example Tamr Henna and Athena restaurante and more.

Stayed for 11 nights and enjoyed the whole stay. Stayed B&B in a room overlooking the lagoon, traditional Egyptian furniture, very clean and tidy. Nice hot, powerful shower.
Enjoyed the peace and quiet as the hotel was not that busy.
Infinity pool overlooks the lagoon, but could get overcrowded when hotel is busy.
The in-house masseur is well worth a visit or two. Beds were a bit hard, maybe that's why the masseur is so popular?
El Gouna would not be to everyones liking (purpose built), but for two friends it was very safe to walk around on an evening with no hassle from the opposite sex.
Recommend you hail a tuk tuk for trips out. We visited the marina for dinner on a number of occassions. On our first night to the marina we forgot our CC to pay for dinner, staff said come back tomorrow to pay (which of course we did). Final recommendation, learn a few Egyptian words - you get much better service.

I can't believe all the good reviews about this dump! Thanks to all the good reviews, I wasted my money and energy. The rooms are filthy, smelly and reallyyyy old. NO hot water. safe not working. Telephone not working and sooo dirty!!! We killed about 15 Cockroaches in the room!!!! No iron, no soap, no shampooo, NOTHING!
and millions of ants all over the hotel. The lights in the room kept flickering the whole night-while we were trying to get dressed. The phone was not working in our room- or in any of our friends' rooms so we walked back alll the way (yes, it was a long walk) to the reception to get someone to take care of all that *&**and they didnt do anything!!!!!!!!!! staff not helpful. Breakfast was SOOO horrible. food looked like it was sitting there for dayyyys. and the AC in the restaurant was not working the whole time we were there.
Far from the marina which is where all the night life is. Tok Toks will take you for 5 LE per person but they are hard to find especially after 11pm. ALSO, all the pics are lies. the pool is super small. the ONLY way to get to the beach is to walk for ten minutes to a near by hotel and to wait for a boat that comes every HOUR!! to take you to a beach 5 minutes away.
To end our horrible stay at the hotel they charged us a ridiculous amount of for some peanuts and a twix bar we got from the mini bar. My friend went to the bathroom in the lobby before we left and ill just say she almost vomitted. PLEASE save your money!

Egypt-cel, Manager at Dawar El Omda, responded to this reviewResponded 13 July 2011

Dear Lovetotravel294201,
Thank you for taking the time to review your stay with us. We apologize for what appears not to be an impresssive experience in our hotel.
As you mentioned some of your problems only at your check out time, we have recommended you to advise us immediately for any technical problem in your room. In that case we can send a technical staff to repair equipment not working properly. Usually our housekeeping staff also advice our maintenance team of any problems in the room but they were unable to do so during the stay as the "do not disturb sign" has been left on the door during your 3 nights stay.
The phone in your room however seems to be working perfectly as you called reception to order room service or to collect your luggage at check out time.
The location of our hotel near the downtown area is clearly indicated in our hotel descriptions with the possibility to get to the marina with local transportation services. Our shuttle boat schedule to the beach is posted at the reception so you can check the time table and avoid waiting time.
We have read your comments and will take action immediately regarding all equipment and cleanliness of the rooms.
We hope to see you again in El Gouna,

Warm regards
Dawar el Omda Hotel management

You cant get "All in" here but that means you can go to Benitos for great coffee and chicken sandwiches and to the Vienna Cafe for homemade ices and apple strudell and the Club House for cheap meals [happy hour 6-8] + you can take a tok-tok for £1 to Abu Tig Marina for the night life or Red Sea Zone for kite boarding and the beach. If you fancy scuba diving try Teo at TIG diving at the Sheriton Hotel.

Room Tip: Ask for 304 it overlooks the lagoon
