We stayed for seven nights arriving on the 17th April ,to be shown to our room and find that the room had two single beds in and this was to sleep three people me my wife and our 14 yr old daugherter.
After a quick call to reception i was told that a put up bed was on its way up to the room I think not, after two hours of heated debate I asked to see the manager who upgraded us to a delux room .No room was overlooked and had fab views across the bay.

Now the good points .
The hotel is massive with three pools and private beach with four good restuarants ,the food is first class and the staff are great as well. The hotel is only two years old ,we was told by a member of staff that the hotel took twelve years to build that shows how big it is.
The hotel is spotless and cleanliness is upmost staff are freindly and willing to help whenever they can even treking on a scorching beach to offer drinks!! I liked the tea and coffee making facilities in the room this was an added bonus for a cuppa in the morning although you can get hot drinks 24/7.
And the bad points
Around the pools you are for ever being asked if you want a massage , to go on boat trip ,and fishing trips by the staff who work on commision. on the friday the hotel was hit by around 900 eygyptians who hit the hotel for the Easter break for four days like a swarm of ants.
firstly I thought the russians were rude and pushy but these people win hands down
At meal times it was like feeding time at the zoo, as soon as a new tray of food was seen to be coming out POWW they was all running towards the serving points with their plates held out as thou it was going to be there last meal. The Childen were climbing on the tables runnining around the restraunt with the parents just sitting there stuffing there faces with food and getting there nannies to deal with the children and the waiters have to just take all the rudeness from there own kind .Although this has no reflection on the hotel or staff.
Would we go back well this is our seventh time to Egypt so yes we would but only to try a new hotel .

Room Tip: not many english

We had a very nice relaxing holiday at Citadel Azur!! Despite the problems in Egypt we had no problems, nothing at all, it feels like heaven on earth. We hope that tourists from all over the world will go back to Egypt, for the people for the terrific Red Sea and the hospitality!

We felt so good!

Our family stayed at the Citadel Azur for a week, and we thought it was a VERY nice hotel, but lacking in some areas and I can't agree that it's a 5-star resort. We arrived in the afternoon in time to catch the end of lunch at the Harbor Inn. The food was OK, nothing great. The food at the lunch buffet was the same all week and we got tired of it after 7 days.

We had one of the ambassador suites (in building 1 above the Citadel buffet). It's two standard rooms with sliding doors leading to a large common living room, the beyond that room is a large sliding door that opens to the patio (about a 1 meter drop out the window down to the patio if you have kids). The room was nice, but the "couches" were uncomfortable. There was also a lack of storage, other than the closet, which was incovinient for a week stay. The minibar was filled every day. We got lots of water every day contrary to what other reviews said, and we asked for Fanta (the Pepsi version of Fanta) and Diet Pepsi and got them. Didn't ast for beer because we weren't in much of a drinking mood during our stay. There was no shampoo, just a pump with "all-purpose" soap.

The physical resort was really nice. The buildings are great, and the beaches are very convinient. Walking around the marina to get to the Harbor Inn and Cafe Mozart wasn't too bad, but you do end up walking a ton here - not a bad thing. The beaches were nice. Lots of coral once you get out in the water, so bring water shoes. We bought some in the little shop on the marina for $8 for our kids. Well worth it, not a bad price. There are lots ramadas and attendants that bring pads. The resort wasn't too busy during the middle of the week so most people were around the lagoons. We went further up to the sheltered beaches. We really enjoyed the convinience of the beaches.

The service in general was good, not great, but good. The drink service in the resturaunts (buffets) was inconsistent. Sometimes the men took drink orders, other times you had to go get your own. Not too big of a deal to get my own drinks, but not what I would consider 5-star service. We ate in the Itallian place one night. It was ok. We ate in the Brazillian place another night, it too was ok. We wanted to eat at the seafood buffet, but didn't realize till the end of the week that they are only open 2 days a week. It's our own fault for not studying the resturaunt schedules better, but they could do a better job of letting guests know the resturaunt schedule.

The omlettes in the main buffet at breakfast were good, and the mexican night had good chicken fajitas. Otherwise the food was so-so.

The staff seemed pretty amazed that we were Americans vacationing in Egypt. Some told us we were the first Americans they had seen at the resort. Most guests were from Russia and Ukraine. We live in Ukraine, so we are used to the culture of Ukrainians, so I can see where some reviews spoke unfavorably about the behaviors of the Russians and Ukrainians. It wasn't a big deal to us.

Since we were there on Christmas Eve, we HAD to pay through the nose for the Gala dinner, which was pretty good, BUT it was a buffet, which is not a good idea for a resort full of people that cut in front of each other in lines. The entertainment was kinda lame for what we had to pay. One nice thing was that they let us take food out of the dinner. Our kids fell asleep at the table before dinner and our nanny took them back to the room, and they let us load up a plate for her to take back to the room.

Every evening after dinner we hung out in the lobby for hot chocolate and cappucinos before we took the kids to bed. Get there early if you want a seat. There was a "wedding band" there that was pretty good.

Our kids also REALLY liked the free gelato when it was open (12-6 I think)

********** We all became ill to some degree while we were in Egypt. BRING MEDICINE FOR STOMACH UPSET!!! YOU WILL PROBABLY GET SICK.*******************

This also might be a no-brainer for most people, but we were annoyed that we weren't told ahead of time. There is a dress code, and you must wear pants and nice shirt in resturaunts other than the buffets for dinner.

We had our trip booked through Turtess, which we were VERY unhappy with, but that's another story...

Overall Hurghada is decent. We intend to go back again next year and will defiantely stay at the Citadel because it's away from the other resorts, and we really liked the beaches, but we will stay at the resort the whole time and not bother with excursions. Luxor was neat, but a 15-hour trip, and the pyramids are a 23-hour trip. The Citadel is very nice, I just can't agree that it's 5-stars.

I agree with a few persons before. In lobby no aircondition. Not all swiming pools are on duty, also jaccuzi, in bathrooms only universal liquid soap, in recepnion not friendly service if you not speaking Russian. Main restaurant to small, specially for breakfast - you must hinting for clean and free table. Not a place for oldler and people with children. Free internet only in lobby NOT IN ROOMS.
But they have beautiful reef, beach, and architecture.

Its one of the most beautiful hotel in Hurghada, its recently opened so its still very clean and nice! All the rooms have sea view but they r quiet small, ok for 2 ppl but if there is third-have to sleep on something like sofa...its marble with thin mattrace on it..really not comfortable, hard like stone and I cant imagine to stay there with 4 persons...there was family 2 adults and 2 kids and they said its unbelievable, they didnt have any space as the whole room was filled with extra beds. Food ok, egyptian style, nothing special, but lunch was ok, good pizza and pasta every day...Drinks good, in some bars they make very nice cocktails! Mini bar in the room is filled every day with juices, soft drinks, beer and water. There is very stylish Mozart cafe opened every day in certain hours...they serve really good different kind of coffee, caffe latte, cold chocolate, sacher cake, apple cake...etc.
There is lagoon with music played all day, also some activities like water polo, bellydance, sea gymnastic.....the other beaches r quiet...There r many beaches as the hotel beach spread over 1km...but useable is only one more...as the other ones have coral and stones in the entrance to the sea and nobody use them...
I dont recommend this hotel to anybody who has any problem with walking, as there r sooooo many stairs that u cant imagine...after few days u ll feel your legs getting muscular. One time I met one egyptian family, part of them already on the top, some of them in the middle very sweat and one fat daughter still 2 floors lower loosing her breath...U ll really think twice before u leave your room coz u wont go back if u forget something....Its long distance from the beach to the restaurant, pool also to the gym where some activities take place...
There is live music every night (singers switch) on the terrace with lovely ambience, ppl dancing...There is also nice disco bar, but most of the time empty.
The shame about the hotel is that they dont want to allow any taxi to be called inside as the want u to get their limousine service which is really expensive...If u r not first time in Hurghada and u like night life this hotel is not for u!!
Overally - stylish hotel, good service, bad location (far away from everything), wifi in lobby( lobby is open and its toooo hot there in high season (july august) as there is no AC!!!! never seen this in Egypt!, connection through telephone cable in the room for free, nice animators (but already not there anymore)....recommend this place for ppl who want quiet holiday.
