Old Palace Resort
Ranked #50 of 222 Hotels in Hurghada
Reviewed 18 August 2013

We will start with a Great Hotel, Fantastic location and probably the best staff you will ever meet.
We stayed for 2 weeks at the end of July. Shal Haseesh is an area designed and developed just for tourism and is the cleanest and safest area of Egypt we have visited, previously been to 3 other areas of this country.

Hotel
The hotel is about 20 minute transfer from Hurghada Airport, you get to drive through Hurghada and then into the impressive Shal Haseesh area. You drive through a few security checkpoints, which makes this area safe and on new roads. This is one of the cleanest areas of a foreign country we have visisted. The hotel is very impressive when you drive up and has a stunning reception area. The check in was quick and we had previously e-mailed the hotel, Sherif the Front of Desk manager, we were given a complimentry upgrade. Within 5 minutes we were in our room. During our stay Sheirf did come and see us to make sure everything was Ok and if we needed anything. The hotel is approx 80% Russian, 19% other Europeans and we were the only English family, do not let this put you off. We were given preferential treatment by the staff, they love the English. We had the pleasure of meeting the Hotel General Manger, Khaled and speaking to him daily. He is always visable around the hotel and wants to talk to guests, he has a passion for this hotel and wants to improve it. He wants more English to book. He invited us to a Gala dinner in the Italian restaurant and spoke to us at length at this event.

Room
My wife and 17 year daughter stayed in a Chalet room. Nicely decorated, very clean, large seating area with 42" TV, plenty of English channels, we had a great view of the quiet pool, which was excellent. The rooms were cleaned daily and never had any room to complain, the room boy did a great job. Fridge filled with a larger bottle of water daily, coffee making facility and iron in the room.

Pools
The hotel has 2 pools, the large olympic sized pool next to the beach and the quiet pool next to the restaurant. Both have their own bars and no probelms getting a drink. We spent all our time by the quiet pool. Always beds available, no loud music and no screaming kids. A special mention to Eslam, the barman by this pool, a true gentleman. He always ensured we had drinks, brought us water in an ice bucket and enjoyed our conversations. Hope you enjoyed your holiday with your family in the Mansoura.

Beach
This hotel actually has a sandy beach, 50 yard walk from pool. The beach is very nice and as always the Red Sea a cooling alternative to the pool. Beds always available. The beach is on a promenade, which is a lovely walk.

Restaurant
The food is good compared to other Egypt hotels. Breakfast is the normal fare, the egg man was a great laugh. The staff in the restaurant are fantastic, wanted to name a couple but they did not want me to as they work as a team and want to be acknowledged as a team, so thank you to you all. We were invited to the Italian by Khaled (general manger) food was excellent in here.

Bars
We spent most evenings in the lobby bar, great service, air conditioned and great drinks. Another mention to the team in their, never without a drink, even if the bar was full, we just took a seat and had a drink within minutes, a big than you to the bar staff in the lobby. Just shows how respecting the staff, a please and thank you goes a long way.
Entertainment
Probably average at best, the entertainment staff need a kick up the backside, they have it too easy and it shows, no real effort by the majority of them.

Summary
Great place for a vacation but needs more English but do not be put off by this. The Russians are entertaining, worst dressed nation ever, mannerisms to laught at, just sit back, chill out and laugh at them. If you get the chance to book this hotel, do it.

A big thank you to all the staff, you are the biggest asset of this hotel.

Really it was very comfortable and enjoyably vacation in this hotel, starting from safe location for the hotel to comfort accommodation. you will find all people which they are working their, want to help you in what you want, starting from general manager to the labors. all of them respect their guests. hotel very clean, the eating time very suitable, swimming pools clean, the sea view found to be amazing, rooms found to be clean and comfortable. also the weather in this time of year was great.
only one thing may be not suitable for others which is the starting time for bar (10 AM ) and the last order at (11 PM) and i think in the hotel they have a solution for this by charge to be open for 24 hours as i think.

Room Tip: all rooms have an amazing view, some on small swimming pool and some on big swimming pool and some o...

I return each year to the Old Palace. Of course I have tried other hotels in Hurghada and many places all over the world, and the Old Palace in Sahl Hasheesh is one of my best choises. What I like most is the beautiful environment, you don't  see or hear traffic, the view of the Red Sea is magnificent and you can walk or bicycle along the bay.  The hotel exudes calm and kindness. The staff is friendly and always ready to help. I want a quiet environment where I can relax and I find it here. The rooms are bright and comfortable, the food is richly varied and exciting, the pools and the beach are perfect and the staff give me good service. What else can I ask for? I always try to return to my favorite hotel.

We had the fortune to visit this wonderful hotel in July for two weeks. Being sincere, we had some reserves towards our first visit to Egypt, but thanks to the great people of the Old Palace resort this vacation became our best vacation ever.

Sahl Hasheesh is for sure becoming an isolated "garden of eden", because to us it already seemed like such. During the rough time in Egypt when safety comes first, we felt very safe after crossing the two gates separating Sahl Hasheesh from the rest of Hurghada.
Sahl Hasheesh is quiet, clean, with excellent beaches, exquisite shops and great hotels, and Old Palace has a centered place in this ever growing purpose-built paradise.

All of our impressions about the hotel were surprisingly positive, from our arrival till our departure, with the only difference that we were sad on leaving.

The hotel is perfectly sized, stylish, family friendly, extremely clean - as the standard rooms, so as the public toilet.

The hotel staff is professional to the maximum, polite and helpful. We send our compliments to the hotel management, primarily to Mr. Sherif Sabry, whose polite е-mail correspondence with us was the main reason we have chosen this hotel in the first place.
We would also like to emphasize our special thanks to Mr. Gouda Hamdy, the chef, who spiced our stay in Old Palace with his kind attention.
Since, Old Palace is a perfectly sized hotel, we also had luck to meet Mr. Khaled Fathy, the general manager, and enjoy several interesting conversations with him.
The waiters, cleaners, gardeners, housekeepers, also as the whole hotel staff are unique workaholics, people who work like people, not like robots, with sincere smile even after long shifts. We admired the positive attitude of our hosts in Old Palace, their multilingualism, education and gross knowledge, and we can easily say that the best resource this hotel has are the employees themselves.

As for other things: we enjoyed the quiet and separated corners - that are easy to find in the hotel lobby, what was especially interesting during the hottest period of the day; the hotel beach - that is big enough to feel private also as to socialize if you like so; the corals in the sea just in front of the beach; and the diversity of food - that was served everyday in buffet style.
Since my girlfriend is a vegetarian, she enjoyed various pastas the most, almost as I enjoyed the BBQ corner.
The maintenance was expedite and professional when we had a minor problem with the sink in our bathroom.
Although we didn't use the pools often, they were very clean and never crowded. We were sorry because the jacuzzi pool didn't operate because of the pumps being repaired during our stay.
The animation was medium, with the exception of the Oriental show, which left a strong impression.

Beside the fact that we wouldn't like this hotel to become a one nation hotel, the only lack we found was the lack of small tables by the sunbeds, the lack of sun-umbrellas by the pool bar and the occasional annoyment of the sellers on the beach, but since we soon made interesting friendships with them, too, our whole impression is 5 stars, and our total grade is: we will come again for sure!

I spent two wonderful weeks in this hotel "OLD PALACE". The hotel is absolutly fantastic, good position, standing near the see, beach and the sea is georgies with a lot off place for fun and for sweming in the christall see. The hotel is beautiful, the room is also beautiful, clean, and big, and very beautiful and tasted food-extremly good. Personality who work in the resturant is very kind, helpfull and profesionall.
But few things i didnt like :1). Hotell should to have more bars, on the beach and in the hotel;
2). Different prices for the gest who wanted to stay (keep) the room the last day. I didnt ecxpect that behavior off the reception worker ; 3).The hotel taxi is very expencive (40 dolars for drive to center off Hurgada insted 50 egipition pounds wich is normall and full price). The main manager should be to know what their reception worker do on that place.
I would like to recomend this hotel to all people who want to have FUNTASTIC HOLIDAY, but just take care about this few things that i writte.

I spent two weeks holiday with my girlfriend at Old Palace Resort during July 2013. We chose Old Palace Resort because, based on the reviews and photos, it seemed like a quiet and tasteful resort, different to many “circus resorts” as one of the previous reviewers said, that are so often to be found in Egypt. Old Palace Resort was perfect. It was not too small, nor too big, just a perfect place for a perfect holiday.

It is located in a beautiful Sahl Hasheesh which is going to be the “next big thing” in Egypt, I am sure. Stylish little town / resort community without any fuss, without thousands of tourists in the streets and around hotel, just a place for relaxation and enjoyment in the Red Sea, beautiful sunsets and peace and quiet.

We arrived just before noon and the check in procedure took maybe 20 minutes, just enough time to enjoy the complimentary drink we were welcomed with.

Hotel lobby is such a pleasant place - beautiful, stylish and classy with quiet relaxing music playing all the time. It is quite big, but it still has many different “corners” with more intimate atmosphere. My favorite place in the lobby was the “library” corner, with big and comfortable chairs in a stylish surrounding. It is a great place for reading and having a drink while enjoying the silence.

We stayed in a standard room, with a view of the smaller pool and a partial sea view. Rooms are cleaned every day, and they were spotless all the time. We were provided with two big bottles of water daily, which we could refill all around the hotel whenever we needed to. Also, tea and coffee was provided daily to our room which was equipped with an electric tea kettle, so we could start a day with a nice cup of coffee without having to leave the room.

The food was excellent with a huge selection for every meal, so you could eat something different every day, for every meal.
The chef in charge of “eggs station” during breakfast was doing a great job. He is a very polite and courteous man, always with a smile and always remembering how you like your eggs in the morning.
For me, dinner was always the greatest meal. Just a perfect selection of fish, different kinds of meat, barbecue, pasta dishes, dozens of different salads and desserts. Also, besides the “regular” dishes, almost every evening there was a big selection of themed dishes, so on one evening you could enjoy for example Mexican kitchen, the other was Chinese and so on.
When it comes to food, for me personally there were just two things that lacked. First, I would have loved it if they served more national Egyptian meals, as I enjoy trying new things and generally enjoy ethnic food. Second, the watermelon. I just love watermelons during the summer, and it was served only once during our two week stay.

Hotel beach was absolutely beautiful, and the beach service was great. The sea was crystal clear and deep enough to have a good swim, which is so often not the case in the Hurghada region. There was plenty of room at the beach, and the chairs are not close at all, so you could enjoy some privacy. The pools were also excellent and very clean. There is a massive main pool, small pool for children, and also a smaller jacuzzi pool in the garden, with a nice pool bar next to it. The main pool bar and the guys working there are just great, and it is also very close to the beach, so you could always take a drink, coffee, ice cream, snack or whatever you want and enjoy it on the beach. Some of the sellers at the beach did get a bit annoying, but it didn’t bother us that much.

Hotel gardens are very well kept, perfectly clean and perfectly green, so it was an enjoyment taking a walk around the properties.

When it comes to animation, I must say that I don’t pay attention to it at any hotel, those kinds of activities are just not my cup of tea, but I did notice Max from animation team, who was always very polite, but very funny at the same time and whenever we saw him, he put smiles up on our faces.

And finally, the service. Words are not enough to compliment the staff all around the hotel. Everything was going so incredibly smooth, and the staff were very polite and friendly, always with a smile on their face, making sure that you are comfortable and enjoying yourself. Everybody is doing a great job and it is very hard to single out anybody, but I just feel the need to mention some of the guys who made our stay even more enjoyable.
First, Mr. Sameh Salama, bartender at the main lobby. It is really a privilege to meet such a nice young man who does his job with such commitment. He made different cocktails for us every evening, and it was such a pleasure to talk with him during our stay. Very well mannered, educated and articulate young man, with a great sense of humor. We talked many times on different topics and it was a pleasure spending time with him.
As I have stated earlier, some of the sellers at the beach were annoying, but Taha was quite the opposite. Same as with Sameh, Taha is also a young, well educated man with many interesting insights and we enjoyed talking to him almost every day at the beach.
I also must mention Mustafa at the main pool bar, who was doing a great job, making sure that everything runs smoothly.
The staff at the reception, led by Mr. Sherif Sabry were also great, very polite and always at your disposal. Mr. Sherif was also very helpful in arranging our late check out.

Time spent at the Old Palace Resort was one of the best holidays we ever had and I can say for sure that we will be coming back. Many times.

Thank you all at the Old Palace Resort for an outstanding holiday.
We wish you every success and all the best in the future. You deserve it.

Me and my wife have spent there a wonderful week holiday at the end of June.

Hotel
Hotel is quite new (opened in 2008 I think), building itself is very nice, not too big, not too small. It is located it Sahl Hashees bay which (according to our guide) should become one of the biggest resorts in the world. Fact is that right now, the whole resort counts just for 5 operating hotels and several condominiums. All the other hotels and buildings (there are tens of them around the whole bay) are still under construction, or better said the construction works had stopped couple of year ago and many construction sites look more like a ruins. On the other hand this makes the whole resort very quiet, without hundreds of tourists walking up and down. In the evening you will hardly meet anyone outside the hotel area. Anyway, if you are looking for nightlife and shopping, better search for a different location.
In one of the reviews somebody was complaining about the time they had to wait for check-in. Please take into account that the standard check-in time is at 2 p.m. (if I remember right). If you arrive early in the morning (like us) you will have to wait, but definitely not until 2 p.m. – we received room key at 11 a.m. Anyway just at the arrival we received towel cards and could go on the beach.

Standard room - OK
We had a standard room with a garden view. It was clean and big enough. Originally I was thinking about upgrading to a see-view room (upgrade cost 10 USD/day), but then we decided to keep the original one and looking back it was a good choice – we used the room just to sleep there and see view is useless when sleeping. Moreover, the garden view rooms were really quiet, as there was no noise coming from the pool bar (music playing during the day and entertainment programmes in the evenings).

Food
Food was excelent. Despite the breakfast offer was the same every day, the choice was so big that you could have something different every day. Lunch and dinner offer was changing daily. Big variety of soft drinks and local alcohol, beer. Personnel was very helpful, all spoke English. Cons – small variety of fruits (usually just orange, grapefruit and apple), lot of cakes but basically all the same taste, machine juice was awful (powder juice), quality of wine - anyway, these were just small issues that could not spoil the perfect overall impression on food. The only really disappointing moment was when we received the lunch bag for our trip – that was very poor.

Beach
Hotel beach was clean and the beach service was perfect – we receive a towel card with which we could borrow a clean beach towel anytime during the day for free. Beach beds and umbrellas on beach and at the pool are also for free, and their number is adequate. As the beach is just in front of the hotel, you can always take a drink, snack or ice-cream from the pool bar and enjoy it on the beach.
The only negative thing were poor snorkelling opportunities – there only few small corrals, best place is the damaged peer 50m left from the hotel – quite lot of fishes, but small variety. I strongly recommend going on a snorkelling trip on the open sea – that was something I will never forget – huge coral reef with thousands of different fishes, great.
Complains about the annoying staff of the SPA centre – it is true that if you lay on the beach, they will come 2 or 3 times a day to offer you a massage, manicure, pedicure,…. It was always enough to politely say: Thanks, I am really not interested.

Russians
Like local Egyptian say – Hurghada is no longer Hurghada, but Russghada. Yes, there were maybe more than 85% of Russian guest at Old Palace (including other post-Soviet countries such as Ukraine, Belarus, Kazachstan etc.). I know many people say Russians are laud, disrespectful, drunk, etc, etc. Honestly at Old Palace we had not had a single bad experience with them. They were mostly young couples and families with kids. The only thing that was annoying me was that the first language the personnel start talking to us was Russian, but I understand why.

Room Tip: Garden view rooms are very quiet, suitable for families with small kids.
