Spent a week with my husband here from the 9th Sept 2011.

After a 5hr 45min flight with Thomsons we found check in very good...we were all taken into the lounge so not to congest recetion and given our information and bands then shown to our rooms which were roomy with 2 double beds pushed together and clean and modern.

The hotel without doubt is stunning..it boasts 15 pools which several are heated (you will definitely notice the difference of the non heated ones even in the heat of summer)

It is a very large complex with most rooms over looking one of the pools..if you have trouble with mobility email and request a room near the restaurants then you will be central based and also be close to a selection of the pools.

With the hotel being so huge and the weather so hot it can be at times hard work getting from a to b. On a evening the temp was still above 26 degrees.

The beach is exactly what we expected after reading the reviews on here so if you've done your research you won't be dissappointed and expect anything more than what it is. It's corse sand (not the type to make sand castle with more building sand/grit/crushed coral & shells type) and yes most part of the day until about 4.30pm the tide is out and its about 2inch of water for 1km. Again we knew this but found it a pleasant walk out (beach shoes necessary for the coral) and this is how we did our sunbathing as it was breezy and our feet were kept cool making it a bareable sunbathe. The sunbeds are free on the beach although the 4 poster sun bed/houses are charged to your room at 20 Euros a day. We did this one day and found them comfortable and cool but over priced!
A well looked after camel walks up and down the beach all day for 10 Euros a ride.

I disagree with some of the other guests on here that the food isn't good. Although i personally didn't eat a lot as i'm very fussy..the choice was there..and i found there was a wide selection from pasta's..chicken..lamb..donner kebabs..potatoes/chips/wedges..fish ect in fact the only thing i didn't see was pizza's. You are in Egypt and you won't find English food although at breakfast there is cereals/a egg station/breads/salads beans/toast ect with cordial type drinks/tea/coffee hot chocolate. And at the beach bar you will find fish fillet fingers in batter & chips and burgers ect. The desserts are also plentiful. You will definitely not go hungry at this hotel and in comparison with other 4* hotels from the people we spoke to on trips whom were offered 1 dish at tea time this hotel is extravangant!
It is mostly self service in the hotel so you get your own drinks apart form the odd waiter on a evening in the bars but its usually quicker to just go get your own.

There are some lovely bars dotted around the complex but only one place will do entertainment as entertainment is very low key. If a singer comes in then the animation won't do a show. I felt for such a huge complex they could have had a few singers on or at least moved them around as they tended to be placed in between the relax pools which had limited seating and not adequate to cover the size of the hotel. On par with hotels in other countries i don't see why the animation are not able to do a show every evening in the ampitheatre.
On the Wednesday there was a beach party organised from a firm outside the hotel which charged 15 Euros each!! again why couldn't this be made a weekly event organised by the hotel!? Why should we pay for entertainment at a all inclusive hotel!

Another issue that all the reviews mention is the lack of water..1.5 litres allocated per room. I agree totally that this is not acceptable but again as i'd done my research was aware of this and not shocked..so in the first 2 days of your arrival go through the hotel gates and take a right and you will find 4 fixed price shops where you can buy bottled water very cheap to put in your room for drinking and teeth brushing.
I feel the hotel could also invest in tall plastic cups that are recycable and cost efficient rather than the thin plastic cups the drinks are served in around the pools as they get blown about and are very small.

My main reason for this being my first time to this country was 100% due to the predictable upset tummy so i deliberately paid more for a good quality hotel in hope of avoiding it. Let me assure you no matter where you stay or how careful you are you are likely to get one. I didn't eat salad..didn't touch money...didn't have ice cubes or ice cream and frequently sanatized my hands but i think you have to accept it's part and parcel of the country and people have their own explanations of why they get it from it being air borne or the chill from the pools..the food (which i find unlikely as your not sick its more just the trots) or handling dirty money..i'm guessing mine was due to the water they use in the drinks dispensers but who knows!! I took immodium and it worked fine for me..they tell you to get some from the pharmacy there as its more efficient but another guest got some and it read the same ingredients as ours so your choice..don't let it put you off though..just accept you may or may not get it, it will make no difference the quality of hotel you go in or how careful you are..it's Egypt!

We went on 2 trips..the trip that was 1 hr quading..spider cars..50km in to the desert to a boudin camp..a show and star gazing. we paid £45 each from the guy on the beach. It lasted 8hrs and was worth the money we paid as food was inclusive and drinks, although take a extra drink with you and buy a large square scarfe for the quading before you go from the shop outside the hotel at 1 Euro as they charge 5 Euros on the trip.

We also did the 4 Island snorkelling for my husband!! (i'm not a water babe) we paid £45 Euros again each from the guy on the beach but noticed later it was only 30 through Thomsons! The first stop off was paradise island for 1hr..this is plentiful as there's no shade, it is beautiful but not the powder sands they declare it is but the same as on the hotel beach. There is 3 more snorkelling stops and on one of them they dive down and feed the fish and all the fish swarm to the food which is spectacular and like swimming in a aquariam.Don't worry if you can't swim like me you can hold on to a ring and they pull you along whilst you look under the water.

If you're wanting to do Cairo ect i'd choose a hotel closer to there as its a 7hr road trip or 45min flight from Hurghada.

The only improvements i could suggest for the hotel is to provide bottled water and free mini bar ( I've paid half the amount for a holiday in Turkey and received free mini bar!) and for more toilets around the complex as with the design of the pools they can be quite difficult to reach when in a hurry!! the ones they have also need more direction signs to their where abouts. Evening entertainment also needs improving as after a day doing nothing sunbathing you don't want to be doing nothing on a night too!

I wouldn't go back to the hotel purley because i've been to the country now and like to visit lots of different countries but i do hope the next hotel will be as stunning as this resort as it is of a very high standard.

We arrived at the Aquamarine Hotel after a very long coach drive through the desert from Luxor. When we checked in the wrong room was given to us, instead of a superior family room that we booked we got a double room with 2 beds, when we complaint they just added an additional bed for my son who is 15years old next to my bed,and told us to complain when we got home, the room was very small for 3 people and we could hardly move around. Not very nice,
We booked this Hotel purely because the First Choice representative told us prior our booking that it was one of the best 5 stars and Thomson’s Platinum Hotel, the hotel itself is impressive, but the quality of food and service is very poor and the food variety is non existent it was almost the same every day, the main buffet restaurant was always very busy, the a la carte restaurants are not impressive as the food they serving is the same as the food hall. Definitely not what we would expect from a 5 star platinum range hotel, we have all been ill with stomach upsets from the second day of our holiday and still suffered after being home 2 days.

The hotel only provided with one bottle of mineral water, which we had to refill at the designated point for the rest of our stay, these were often empty and we hanged around waiting for a refill for quite a while which is not ideal in temperatures in the upper 40s.
Also we booked this hotel because First Choice sold it to us because it had its own beach, but what she failed to tell us that the beach is without the sea, since you have to walk over 1km to reach it and when you do you cant swim in it because there are to many rocks.
Aquamarine Hotel is certainly not the 5 star hotel / experience that we were sold and not worth the amount of money we paid for.

We arrived at Iberotel Aquamarine on 24 August 2011 & our first impression was less than perfect as our family and another couple were left waiting for half an hour to be checked in. We were told to wait in the lobby & somebody would come to collect us......they did only after my husband complained after we were just left and forgotten about. We were then taken to the incorrect room and then had to walk back across half of the complex.....this resort is massive. The rooms as cleaned to a high standard every single day and the resort itself is absolutely immaculate. The two biggest problems we faced where the rude and ignorant guests (mostly Germans or Polish) and the food which was disgusting. My youngest who is 8yrs old lived on plain pasta, chips and bread for 2 wks as the variety of food is catered for foreign taste buds & not what we are used to in England. For lunch I would advise to try the pool bars as they do chicken & pizza's. I would advise not to take Imodium for tummy upsets as it doesn't work.....there are plenty of chemists just outside the resort & the stuff they give you works within a couple of hours & is much, much better. All in all it was a good holiday and the weather is gorgeous but the guests & food spoilt it for us. Would we go back.......unfortunately not.

We don,t like resorts but this one was really perfect! Nice rooms, perfect restaurants and nice pools. A good small beach with a great view ! And not a lot of drunken Russian people!!

Room Tip: In the new part of the complex is it a long walk to the resautants and the beach, especially in a hot...

Thanks to Wael the rooms division manager our stay was perfect from check in to check out.
Food is plenty and of quality even though the hotel was packed(98%)
Lots of people from all over the world, led to a nice relaxed atmosphere.
The only downside was having to book a sun seat early in the morning.
Otherwise all was perfect.

I have just returned from a weeks holiday at the Aquamarine, with my husband and 13 year old son. I have never written a review before, but feel on this occasion I need to inform people about our experience.
The hotel is very well kept and beautifully manicured. The rooms are very spacious and kept immaculatly clean by the staff, who are also very polite. The pool areas are also excellent.
That is where our good experience ends. I booked this holiday purley because of the waterpark, but unfortunatly the main park was closed for 4 days out of our 7day trip due to maintenance, even though it was only supposed to be for 3 days. There was a smaller waterpark on the other side of the complex but it was not as good and was a 10 minute walk from where our sun beds were.
The food is terrible. the quality is very poor for a 5 star platinum range hotel, we have all been ill with stomach upsets from the second day of our holiday and are still suffering after being home 2 days. We only ate in the hotel and we were all meticulous in using antibacterial hand wash.
You are provided with one bottle of mineral water, which you have to refill at the designated point for the rest of you stay, these are often empty and so you can hang around waiting for a refill for quite a while which is not ideal in temperatures in the upper 30s.
The floor is very slippy throughout the whole hotel, particularly by the water refill points and around the pool.
I did log this problems with our holiday rep that informed the hotel, they were supposed to contact us to discuss the problems, but we never heard anything.
The majority of other guests in the hotel are Russian, and are incredibley rude, both at the restaurants and also the sunbed areas. They do not understand the concept of queing and try to demand to the staff where they want to sit and have other guests moved.

The staff are very pleased when they realise that you are British as it is a refreshing change that we have manners.
We paid £2417 for this holiday, which I feel is very over priced. I am very dissapointed in our family holiday, and we will never go back.
