We have just returned from a truly relaxing and luxurious week at the Premier Le Reve, a hotel we would recommend to any couples in need of some rest and sunshine.
We had never visited Egypt before and I admit to having found the whole airport arrival process a little scary- there was no real organisation and the passport control/ visa situation was very unpleasant. We booked our own transportation from the airport to the hotel, via Blue Sky travel, which was very reasonable and someone was waiting for us after we collected our luggage. The roads in Hurghada are unbelievably unsafe- potholes, no lane structure and the surrounding area is primarily hotels or barren desert land, some of which is patrolled by police/ military. However, the Premier Le Reve is situated in Sahl Hasheesh which is a gated complex about 25 mins away from Hurghada itself and as soon as you enter the complex, things change dramatically- for the better! The area is still under development yet the landscaping and grounds are very well kept- you feel safe!
On arrival at the Premier Le Reve, our luggage was taken for us and we were greeted with a cold towel and asked to sit in the spacious lobby whilst they checked our information.
Booking a deluxe room meant that we had an amazing pool/ sea view room and the biggest bed imaginable! The bathroom was also huge (although the shower looked a lot more impressive than it actually was!) Previous reviews suggest there is not much between a standard and deluxe room however we saw into a few standard rooms and were pleased we had the extra space. It also meant that we had access to the Executive Lounge, which has been referred to in a previous review as 'the billy no mates room' and yet we did not feel this was the case. Yes, it can be quiet in the lounge itself but you also have access to a separate balcony and can enjoy the drinks and canapés overlooking the pool/ sea; the surroundings are very luxurious and the staff so attentive, especially Mahmoud who served us every day (the cappuccinos served here are to die for and somehow better than anywhere else in the hotel, despite the machines being the same everywhere!). With a deluxe room you also have access to the Skypool and Vitamin Bar- we used this on the one day we had which was windy and cloudy and had it to ourselves! Perhaps it will be more popular in the winter months.
We went down to the pool every morning any time between 9 and 10 and found a regular spot to the left of the main pool, around a smaller pool which had double sun loungers and offered a nice sea breeze, which we were very grateful for some days! The Recreation team were very friendly and provided towels and any assistance you needed. All areas are served by amazing bar staff who quickly get to know your order and top you up throughout the day, without you even having to ask. Fresh fruit is served at around 10 and your sunglasses will have been cleaned by 11- little touches that really make you feel looked after.
As other reviews state, there are staff from the Spa and nearby Dolphin Aqua Centre hanging around all day and this can be a pain, especially as you settle in the first day or two. Once they recognise you and know you are not interested, they are polite and leave you alone but you are aware of their presence every day.
The beach offers easy access to a coral reef and if you take your own snorkelling equipment you are guaranteed to see some fabulous fish.
The food and service associated with the hotel we can only praise:
In the main buffet restaurant you are sometimes shown to a table, other times you are ok to find one yourself and you are quickly provided with water and offered a drink. Breakfast, lunch and dinner offer a wide selection of foods and a permanent 'bakery' stand which has the freshest of loaves. The dessert stand looks impressive but on closer inspection it is a range of jelly based products and cream- the ice cream stand however, is very nice! A more smart/ casual dress code is requested for the evening with men in trousers and most ladies were in a dress with heels.
We ate at the Mandarin Chinese, Ossiano Seafood and Bella Italian restaurants, all of which were amazing. We also enjoyed a few lunches at Ossiano the seafood restaurant which made a nice change from the buffet- it is either not common knowledge that you can have lunch there as part of the all inclusive package or people preferred not to as it was never very busy.
The drinks menu is extensive and each room has plenty of soft drinks, tea and coffee facilities and plenty of bottled water- even provided in the bathroom to clean your teeth. You are never left feeling thirsty!
We found that staff did not expect tips yet when they were offered them, they were very grateful. We tipped the bell-boy upon arrival and at the end of the week our room cleaner and a few of the bar staff and waiters (amounts varied between 50- 100 Egyptian pounds). We found that everything was priced in US dollars- both in the hotel and the airport- and in hindsight we would have taken these rather than Egyptian pounds.
There are a few shops on site but we felt we were hassled a little too much in the 'bazaar' style souvenir shop. There is a swimwear/ bag shop and a leather/ fur shop, though this never seemed to have any customers (but next to it you'll find a table tennis table- a fun way to get out of the heat!). Although the hotel carries out 'fogging' to get rid of any mosquitos, I was bitten quite badly around the pool bar on our second night- there is an on site pharmacy and although it is quite pricey, the pharmacist was helpful.
In terms of evening entertainment, some themed nights are devised along with live music and singing from Pete who performed some great acoustic numbers. The bar staff help to liven up the atmosphere but if you are looking for more than a cosy evening sat around listening to music- you won't find it here. You can hire a shisha from the pool bar in the evening for 10 USD.
We cannot fault the staff at all- they have a great team here and everyone seems to 'suit' their role. We saw the hotel Manager a few times during our last couple of days and he was very polite and asked about our stay.
The week overall offered us the rest and relaxation we needed along with plenty of sunshine that did not disappoint. We overheard many visitors talking about previous visits to the hotel, some having been five or six times which proves its quality. For us, the experience was just what we needed and we would recommend the hotel, without a doubt. My only hope is that when the new terminal at Hurghada airport opens, it brings with it an element of organisation and the tourists are treated within it like the valuable assets to the area they are as to get to the paradise that is the Premier Le Reve there is no avoiding it!
