Me and my partner have just come back from a really nice 2 week stay at Titanic Palace.
The hotel: Overall the hotel is a really nice place to stay, its spacious, always somewhere to sit and drink in the lobby bar. The hotel was really big and quite easy to get lost on the first couple of days as it was connected to Titanic Beach. You have full access to titanic beach (pool, restaurants, gym, spa, beach, slides etc) but we didn't really venture into titanic beach.
Food,Drink and Restaurants: There were 2 main restaurants in titanic palace and 2 in titanic beach which served breakfast, lunch and dinner. Breakfast there was a variety of pastries, pancakes, doughnuts, eggs, beans, couscous, sausages, cereal and fruit. We stuck to pancakes, croissants and doughnuts and occasionally had sausages and beans but they weren't the usual baked beans they were kidney beans in tomato or brown mushy beans.
Lunch they served a variety of foods which were more or less the same each day but cooked differently (beef, chicken, rice, fish, veg) as well as salad, fruit and cold meats. Dinner was the same as lunch really always had rice, chicken, beef, fish, veg etc. There is a pasta station, grill station, salad station and most nights had chips. Breakfast, lunch and dinner all had a selection of desserts usually bite sized cakes. The restaurants were large and we usually got a table as there was only 2 of us but for a family of 3+ as soon as you see a table being cleared you have to claim it.
Pool,Beach,Slides: there are several pools in each hotel and it was always easy to find a couple of free sunbeds. You didn't have to get up at a ridiculous time to put your towels on them. The beach is right at the end of the hotel so it only takes a few minutes to walk down there, its a lovely sandy beach with sunbeds, wind break and umbrellas ( you have to get there early to get a cushioned bed). When the tide is in its in touching distance which is good if you have children as its easy to keep an eye on them. When the tide is out its nice to go for a stroll out to sea but watch out for jellyfish, crabs and starfish, there's millions of starfish! The pier is quite long but there is a free mini bus that goes to the end and back. There are a few sunbeds on the pier and there are stars that you can go snorkeling off. We bought snorkeling equipment from our hotel and went off the pier 4 times, the fish are so colourful and swim so close to you, the coral is really pretty so its worth buying an underwater camera. Our pictures came out great.
The slides are where most people go I think. It was always busy with children. There are 5 or so slides which all need rubber rings and boats to go down so there is always a queue to get them but you cant take it back to your sunbed to use after. Kids will try and take them off you before you've even gotten off of the boat!
The room: our room was spacious and the TV was large. Our room had 2 separate beds which we tried to push together, the next day the house keeper moved the furniture around so that the beds were together. The bathroom was average size with a large shower. All the rooms has AC which we had on every night and it definitely makes a difference. The housekeeper made our own towels into animals and made some of our clothes into butterflies, which creased easily so make sure you put all your clothes away.
Trips: We went on 3 trips booked through our rep. There are people that will come up to you and try and sell trips which sound really good but they are over priced and our rep said sometimes they say you're going to a island but take you to a different one instead or stay you get lunch included when actually you have to pay for it. We booked a day trip to Luxor which was £60 each, transfer, attractions, lunch included the only thing we paid extra for was drinks and a boat trip down the Nile. The coach was meant to me 3hours but was actually 5 hours.
The second trip was to the Mahmya Island. we got the coach to the marina then a 40min boat trip to the island. It is lovely there, golden sands, crystal clear sea. We got given snorkeling equipment there so we didn't have to bring our own. Had about an hour on the beach then the boat took us to a coral reef where we spent about 45mins snorkeling. Its worth taking an underwater camera. Headed back to the island or a buffet lunch in the restaurant, only had to pay for drinks. Then had about 1 hour 30 on the beach then headed back to the hotel.
The last trip we went on was diving, it was about £45 per person for 2 drives and lunch included. When we was on the boat the instructor took us through everything we needed to know about diving and the equipment. We were the first couple to drive, the instructor stays with you the whole time whilst diving, helps you if you have a problem, shows you where to look etc.Had lunch on the boat then went to different reef for the second dive both lasting 30mins. The only down side is that most of the time you're waiting around on the boat for each person to do their dive.
Free a la carte and massage: on arrival you get given 1 free a la carte restaurant per week of stay and 1 massage per stay. You have to book your massage quite early in your stay, we left it till the last couple of days to book it but they couldn't fit us in so instead she gave us a discounted rate for a full body massage and 30mins in the spa which we had on the last day. Its not clear how to book the A la carte restaurant, we went to reception and they said you have to book it between 10-1 another guy looked at us like he had no clue what we was talking about but in the end we found out you have to book it at guest relations which is in reception but not at the main desk.
The whole stay was really lovely, some people say its not good for couples to go because there's a lot of kids there but we just took no notice. The only downside was the amount of Russians and Germans there, they have no manners what so ever, push in, don't say thank you or acknowledge that you are there.
Warning : So we was having a great holiday everything was good and the little things didn't really bother us anyway. On the last day my partner went up to reception to ask about extending the room (you have to be out by 12 noon) but our coach wasn't picking us up till 6.30. So he went to reception to find out about extending it, the guy he spoke to said to him that we could have it till 3 for free but after that up until 6 we would have to pay €40. So he said okay we will have it up until 3 then. So he came back then we went to the pool for a bit then up to the room until 3, got a call from reception at 3 saying they will come and collect our bags. We went up to reception to check-out and he said we had to pay £27 pound for staying in the room!...so we said no the guy said we could have it up till 3 for free so we argued with them about it, they were saying he would not have said that and we had to pay, then the guy my partner originally spoke to denied it all and said he never said anything like that! We stood there for about 1 hour 30 arguing with them about it and in the end we gave up and paid it.
So make sure if you do want to extend the room they tell you exactly how much it is and pay it when you ask to extend rather than when you check out for that they cant charge you more.
But don't let some of these negatives make you think otherwise about staying here, It was a really nice hotel and the people that worked there were friendly and helpful (except reception), there was entertainment every evening. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and loved each day there.
