The Oberoi Sahl Hasheesh
Ranked #2 of 222 Hotels in Hurghada
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed 26 April 2014

We visited the Oberoi Sahl Hasheesh during the 14th to the 25th April 2014, on a vacation arranged through Voyage Prive. I had visited the Oberoi chain on previous business trips to India and had always felt the service and food to be excellent. This was no exception and we had decided that this was to be a chill out type of vacation intentionally to recharge our batteries. The key aspects of this visit I would like to highlight are as follows:
The beach - wanting to relax we opted to use the beach each day which was a short stroll from our suite. The service from the team there was exceptional with towels prepared every day, beds arranged and water, iced drinks and melon provided at intervals to give relief to the 34 to 38* C average temperature. The beach was tolerable aided by the cooling northerly winds which prevail at this time of year and refresh the body from the suns heat.
The restaurants - we ate 100% within the hotel and every meal was expertly cooked to perfection within the main restaurant, Zafron the Indian and Pergola the poolside restaurant. On several occasions I requested special variants particularly in the Indian restaurant and was delighted with the results, I should particularly mention the young Indian chef who made me an authentic Murgh Makhani to match any I had eaten in India during my many travels to world class hotels.
The service - throughout the stay whether on the beach, in the bedroom, the mini bar, turn down or restaurant and bar service the attention to detail was incredible and very quickly we felt a part of the hotel and very well looked after and nothing misses the attention of the staff!
The Hotel Management and suites - it is very true to say that Egypt is suffering badly from the political uncertainty of the last several years and the economy has been devastated by the turbulence that has ensued, which makes it even more remarkable that the standards offered by this hotel are a testimony to the management and commitment of all staff. When we watched every day the beach attendants faithfully collecting the flotsam that blows in periodically from the Red Sea and keeping the beach spotless as well as the gardeners, and maintenance teams that respond to the incidental breakages and mishaps that prevail with a quiet regard for their clients and by these efforts keep what is a very large acreage spotlessly clean and in working order. I feel it is a duty to make sure their efforts are supported by travellers from whatever country to ensure that this country, culture and historical heritage are preserved for our future generations and most importantly the indigenous inhabitants.

So in summary, excellent relaxing holiday, superb hotel, attentive management and staff and premier class food, including the breakfast! 10/10

We stayed for 6 nights here in two connecting deluxe suites, 2 adults and 5 children, and we are all keen to return as quickly as possible; we had a totally wonderful stay.

The suites are well-planned with separate sleeping and lounging areas. We ate several evenings on one of our patios which worked very well with children. The bathrooms are beautiful, spacious and light, and on arrival we found one equipped with steriliser, baby shampoo etc, all thoughtfully placed there as we'd requested a cot.

The pool is beautiful and the website photos don't catch it well enough - it is better in reality with lots of different areas so adults can relax, chat, read etc and children bounce around without affecting them too much. As soon as you appear, one of the pool guys dashes over with towels, quickly followed by sun cream, water, cooling flannels, then drinks a little later .... Fabulous service. The Pergola, the pool restaurant, has a lovely setting and we enjoyed late lunches here immensely.

The beach is well-cared for, the snorkelling from the jetty good and the service is the same as at the pool - towels, water, drinks, sun cream, all arrive in quick succession, plus beach toys if you have kids.

We loved the breakfasts - there's a fresh buffet with fruits, juices, patisserie selection, cereals, yoghurts and salads, then you can order freshly cooked dishes - Eggs Benedict were fab!

But the best thing here is the staff - without exception, everyone made us welcome, gave us wonderful service and greeted us in the most friendly manner. Nothing was too much trouble and any request was immediately granted. The staff here surpassed those at any hotel we have ever stayed at. Thank you to them all.

We really look forward to returning next year.

Room Tip: We had 511&512 which connect. They're high up so a bit of a climb but the view from the top...

The fact that this was our seventh visit to this hotel says it all. The Oberoi really is an oasis of total relaxation.
Despite the ongoing political changes occuring in Egypt we felt totally safe and secure at all times.
The management and staff in every department were superb as always - this is one of the key aspects of the Oberoi experience which makes the holiday extra special.Nothing is too much trouble for the staff and everything is done with a smile. The architecture and layout of the hotel and the design of each of the individual suites is spacious and stylish . Everything from the gardens to the lovely sandy beach are extremely well maintained.
The food is first class and the menus are varied and comprehensive catering for every taste.
We particularly enjoyed the breakfasts.
The facilities are excellent. We loved the spa facilities professionaly run by Mr Wallah and his team of spa ladies and greatly appreciated the beautiful newly resurfaced clay tennis court looked after by Ashraf the tennis coach.
We would recommend this resort to anyone looking for a relaxing and luxurious holiday experience in the sun.

We spent three nights at the Oberoi; the whole experience was amazing starting with the smooth check in which was completed in the suite and the sincere service you are getting from all the staff anywhere in the hotel. The suite is excellent; I loved the bathroom with the glass wall over the terrace! The bed is very comfy. The pool and jacuzzi are very good and the treats served at the pool are very nice. The breakfast is one of the best I have ever had; both the buffet and the a la carte menu. Zafraan Indian restaurant is also great for dinner.
One comment about the WiFi inside the suite which had a very low speed; almost not working. Another point is the kids club which has no scheduled activities and was closed most of the time.
The overall experience was one of the best and I totally agree it is the number one hotel in Hurghada and the red sea!

Dear Guest,
Thank you for your wonderful comments on your recent stay with us. We are thrilled that you have carried back fond memories. Currently, our kids club is available on request from our guests and we have an attendant available during the whole day to keep the kids entertained. We will look at scheduling activities during times when we have a lot of children at the resort. We thank you for your valuable feedback. As mentioned in an earlier response to another review, we are currently looking at increasing the speed of internet and hope to have it resolved soon. The hotel is equipped for high speed internet but the challenge is the line coming into the hotel from Hurghada. We look forward to your next stay.

Its an idyllic hotel, set in a vast area with all rooms being in little brick huts - I had a regular suite which had bedroom and lounge area, a walk in wardrobe area, the outside patio with dining table and 2 sun loungers which is great for catching some sunshine in privacy as its completely walled in, the bathroom has a sunken concrete bath, reminds me of a hammam room, and the shower cubical has a door that opens to its own little outdoor courtyard so you have the feeling of showing outside. The 320-324 rooms are way out, a 5 min walk to everywhere and near to the kids activity spot (which is just a little park with slides and a frame) The rooms are well furnished, ample good amenities, lovely service. Id say its ideal for a couples getaway, but the kids might get a little bored as theres not much for them. The beach is clean and has diving, snorkelling facilities, the spa has trained thai and balinese staff, id recommend it. Im here on business, the wifi isn't great, but its free and you can get it in most parts of the resort, even on the beach.

Room Tip: Rooms 320-324 are the furthest away - but close to the kids activity centre if you're with famil...

My wife has mobility problems and I can thoroughly recommend the Oberoi. All we wanted to do was relax and for this it was perfect.

The suite was only a few steps to the beach which was great for us. If we wanted to go anywhere else on the resort we rang reception and the sent a buggy to take us.

Will return soon
