We've visited a lot of 5* resorts in Egypt, all of the famous hotel groups, but this was without any doubt the winner when we take all the variables in account.

Super Staff
General manager is definitely an example of what a general manager should be! Great manager, interested in his guests an a man with a long term view!
Super Room (junior suite)
80% West European guests ... what makes it easier to get to know other guests.
Great pools ... and heated to the ideal temperature
Fine à la carte restaurants
Heated central terrace int the evening with nice live music
Free WIFI all over the hotel
Belgian channels on the flat screen TV's in the room
Dutch speaking guest relations. Tony does her job with dedication!
Very friendly management (general manager Simon) at the dive center (in the sister hotel): Cave Divers base

Conclusion: for the first time in our traveling history we've decided to go back to a hotel we've visited in the past :-)

At the airport an entry visa is required. There are signs saying this will cost $25 per person, but we were quoted £25 or $30. This is payable in cash to the border/customs staff. If you don’t pay, you don’t get in! Hurghada airport is large and modern, but the security staff are stuck in the dark ages and everything is done at their (slow) pace with no politeness whatsoever.

This hotel is a short 20 minute coach ride from the airport – a little bit longer if making hotel stops on the way. Booking into the hotel was done as a group in a lounge area with a cold drink and a refreshing cool towel. Passports were taken away to be scanned and returned minutes later. A self-registration form was completed and we were handed our key card, towel cards, wristbands and introductory letter. We were then shown to our room, the suitcases followed shortly after.

Our room was spacious, there was a large double bed, occasional chairs and furniture, TV, multiple plug sockets, free air con, free digital safe (not bolted to floor or wall), mini fridge with a small selection of water, soft drinks & beers, kettle with tea and coffee. The bathroom was well stocked with toiletries, towels & toilet paper. The towels were only changed once during our 7 night stay and this was only when we purposefully left the towels lying on the bathroom floor. Bedding was not changed during the 7 days. We were advised not to drink the tap water, use it to brush teeth or even boil it to make hot drinks – this is not a problem because bottled water is available throughout the hotel.

The complex has a large “Cloverleaf” shaped pool surrounded by an open patio area for sunbathing. There are plenty of sun loungers with & without padding and there are a smaller number of portable wind breaks. There is a smaller round pool nearby which is also surrounded by sun beds. There was never a time when we were unable to get 2 sunbeds together. There is a pool bar open all day and all drinks are catered for. The hotel employs a “Red Flag” scheme where the display of a small red flag (get this from the towel station) will stop the various massage sellers, trip vendors & the like from bothering you whilst you relax. The red flag however won’t stop the hotel staff (animation team, customer care & bar staff) from engaging with you. Pool towels are of good quality and can be changed as often as you like.

The beach is at the furthest point away from the hotel in a “U” shaped bay. The water was still but cold, the sand course but clean. Again there are numerous sun shades, loungers and wind breaks. The red flag system is again in operation and really does work. There is a good waiter service for drinks. The beach appeared much quieter than the pool area and was our preferred spot to spend the day.

Breakfast is buffet style and there is a good range of foods available. Tea, coffee & juice are served by the waiting staff at the table. The breakfast is available at both the Beach restaurant & the Rainbow main restaurant – inside or outside. Lunch is available at the same 2 locations – a buffet at the Rainbow & a more relaxed “Snack” menu at the Poseidon Beach Restaurant (Burgers, pasta, fish & chips cooked to order).
For the evening meal – a buffet is again available at the Rainbow. The Beach Restaurant becomes a Greek a la carte and there is the Masala Indian Restaurant and Panorama Mediterranean, both a la carte but all included in the A/I package. Spaces at these restaurants are restricted and have to be reserved – using the stand alone computer in the hotel lobby during the day before. Wine is served by glass at the table and is refilled when required. The food at all these restaurants was excellent and the service from the staff was also of a very high standard. There are also a number of additional restaurants that can be booked & used at the neighbouring hotels. Gentlemen need to wear long trousers in the al la carte restaurants.

There is a 24 hour lobby bar (no alcohol 0600 – 1000) that leads out onto a terrace where there is occasional evening entertainment. Drinks are provided at your table by the bar staff who are very attentive. The drinks are of a good quality. The staff at the hotel were all very pleasant and eager to please. The Wi-Fi signal was strongest in the lobby, but was available throughout the resort. A code for 2 devices is given out by the reception staff. There is a cash point outside the main entrance.

There are other amenities which we didn’t use such as the Felucca Seafood restaurant (not part of A/I), a small selection of shops, Spa, Champions Sports Bar (Pool, games etc.), Shisha Café, Gym, Tennis court, football court & amphitheatre for evening animation team entertainment.

Check out time is 12 noon; we enquired about a late checkout room and were allowed to keep the room until 1.30 without paying any extra. The reception staff spoke beautiful English and were very helpful.

There is no need for cash at this hotel if staying on the A/I package but it is handy to have some available to tip the staff for their excellent service. The Egyptian pound is currently slipping in its value; tips are gratefully accepted in Sterling, Euros & US Dollars in preference to their own currency.

I would recommend this hotel and I would return.

At the airport going home it was another slow process with all the security checks. Firstly all iPads, Kindles, Tablets have to be packed away in your hold luggage – nothing electrical bigger than a mobile phone is allowed in the hand luggage. There were numerous security checks, scanners and body/bag searches at various stages of the exit process – these are all necessary so don’t take offence and get annoyed – it’s all in the name of safety just leave yourself with plenty of time!

This hotel comes highly recommended. My points are:

* grounds are clean, spread out and gardens kept well. Maintained daily and funky trees. The more expensive suites situated nearer the beach end.

* service is exceptional by all level of staff from cleaner to reception. You get asked often how the holiday is....very attentive staff and have no negative comments.

* Food delicious from both buffet and a la cartes...favourite one is the Greek. Good portion Size and piping hot.
Staff very attentive and professional.
Options to eat from the 2 hotels next door are available.

* daytime entertainment is darts, water aerobics, stretches and belly dancing. Brilliant animation team keen to get you involved and interact. We didn't really take part in the evening shows so cannot comment. Bar in the reception area was nice to chill out in as well as the outside seating area.

* red flag avaliable by the pool/beach to stop spa staff disturbing you. Very good idea as the staff do come round alot of times.

* sunbeds with wind barriers taken up quickly but we didn't find it too difficult to secure a bed. Nice sun beds on the beach. Pool was heated which was a nice touch during winter months.

* room was clean and large, shower powerful and hot. We were 1st floor 220 over looking the pool area.
The service from Sayed our cleaner was brilliant and he made sure we were happy each evening.

Brilliant hotel. Quick check in and will be returning next year. Weather for end of November was anywhere between 25-28c but did drop during the evening so take a cardy/coat.

Four of us took a trip to this hotel recently and, despite the relative negativity surrounding holidays to this part of the world, we had a fabulous time at a great resort, great staff and perfect weather(the latter of which was sadly missing when we went to Cape Verde around this time last year!). However, it didn’t get off to a great start. On arrival at the airport in Hurghada, we got our bags no problem and, as long as you have £25.00 with your passport for your visa, getting through and out was nowhere near the nightmare that I’ve heard described on this site so please don’t fret about it-have your money ready and it’s a doddle! We then saw the rep, who guided us to our bus...........the wrong one!! He even jumped quickly onto the bus-which only had us 4 plus another couple on board(they were also at the same hotel as us and were sent to the wrong bus!) to make sure we were going to our hotel- only 30 mins later to arrive at the rogue hotel with the staff as perplexed as we were?! After checking our paperwork and confirming we were indeed at the wrong place, here is where THOMAS COOK went down in my estimation. Nobody would come for us to rectify the problem, we had to pay for OUR OWN transport to our correct hotel, on our arrival we were met by someone who was ‘an acting agent for Thomas Cook’ only to find he was the rep after all but he quite clearly didn’t want to deal with our problem. The next morning; the 2 girls went to speak with him and he had the audacity to say we would have to wait to be reimbursed while they checked we had got on the right bus from the airport-unbelievable! The final insult from TC-an offer of £10-nice way to treat customers
The hotel is exceptionally clean; rooms spacious, large balcony, everything worked and we were very happy. There was plenty of space by the pool, the hotel only asks you don’t reserve beds before 08.00 but truth is, it wasn’t necessary. If you don’t want to be bothered by the vendors, you can get a red flag from the towel hut and place in the back of your lounger and they’ll leave you alone. It’s quite breezy in Hurghada so the Crystal Bay has a number of windbreakers which come in very useful.
Breakfast has a great choice in the buffet restaurant and-even though I didn’t have lunch-I was told that it was really good and I sat outside the Greek restaurant ‘Poseidon’ and witnessed by girlfriend and our friends eating kofta, burger, hot dog and pizza and it looked superb! The afore mentioned Greek is a snack bar during the day and an actual Greek restaurant at night and here we had our poorest a la carte meal-or I did! There is no need for me to go into details about what exactly was wrong but suffice it to say, having just made a passing comment the next morning to Hope, a member of the Animation Team who was from Kent and was a real good laugh, all 4 of us were confronted by a member of the Guest Relations Team and then, later that day, by the GM of the hotel-Ahmed-a very affable man-and a team of chefs! He was adamant that we gave them the chance to rectify the issue with the food the night before, my mate had an issue with his chicken too, and we could eat a meal of our choice-we all decided on fillet steak-at their recommendation-and it was superb! Much more important to all of us after the airport bus debacle was how exceptional the staff were. Ahmed, the GM, is a credit, Mohamed in the Poseidon who looked after us all night was brilliant as was Mohamed the barman who surprised us with cocktails throughout our holiday, Ahmed at the main pool bar was also a contributing factor to a great holiday at a reall really excellent hotel. The fish restaurant ‘Felucca’ was a lovely setting at the end of the pier-it’s extra but worth it- the Mediterranean and, my favourite, the Indian were also excellent.
The gym is open at 07.00, there are shops on sight and we all really enjoyed the Shisha Bedouin lounge-the other couple had never tried it and were hooked by the end of the holiday. There are probably many other things/people that I’ve forgotten to mention but please, if you’re planning on visiting this hotel-and you should-just message me about any queries you may have and I’ll be happy to help
Thank you so much to all the staff and management for making this such a superb holiday-really thought it was going to be one of those weeks after the start we had but that was soon forgotten with the location, weather, food and drink and the general relaxed vibe of this hotel has made it somewhere that we would love to return!
Excellent

We have been trying to find an alternate Holiday destination since flights were suspended to Sharm el Sheikh and after a couple of disappointing holidays we decided to book a holiday to the place we really love and come back to Egypt as it ticks all the boxes and a firm family favourite. We have only the Coral Sea resorts to compare with and after a little research found that Sunrise had actually taken over from them in Hurghada. Along with friends we decided that we would book the Crystal Bay Resort as a party of 4 and also upgraed the 2 rooms to a sea view to compliment our 2 weeks holiday.
We arrived at the hotel after a long day travelling to the first Wow! The welcome from the staff was just amazing and this was also the case as we entered the hotel lobby to an immaculate presented home from home ambiance. The front desk manager Hanny was at hand to personally greet us and welcome us to the hotel and became an instant friend, this man is amazing, with an attention to detail that is second to none, 2nd Wow... we was given a drink and cold towel and very quickly and efficiently checked in. Before we was taken to our rooms we where shown to the buffet restaurant for us to get an evening meal before it closed. On arrival it was, well... Wow! It was like a major city reataurant with the feel of real quality and another really impressive attention to detail from the attentive staff. The food was excellent with a huge selection of piping hot food even at such a late hour and this just set the standards which never faltered throughout our stay at the Crystal Bay Resort.
The room which we was escorted to via a ride on the hotel club card was Wow.. extremely large, spotless, large bathroom, very modern and the beautiful bouquet of Roses that Hanny had kindly arranged for me via an email request 3 days before we arrived was just perfect. Thank you Hanny... The mini bar was stocked with only the slight issue, as a Diebetic of not having a sugar free soft drink choice. Having already a diet drink from the plane journey and the late hour we decided to ask at the welcome meeting about alternatives regardind the mini bar and drink choices.
The next morning the welcome meeting was in the cocktail lounge and next door was the guest realations office where we decided to pop in as we was early. Here we spoke the best kept secret in the hotel.... her name is Catherine and she is outstanding in every way ..Wow!!! This young lady makes it her own personnel mission to make sure everything is just perfect and nothing you ask of her is left unattended. You honestly create amazing in every way Catherine and thank you so so much for everything you did for us. The hotel is truly outstanding!! the grounds, gardens, pool areas and beach are just perfect in every way an hidden jem with outstanding beauty.
The Al a carte restaurants, Mediterranean,Asian were superb and our favourite was the Greek with food being prepared to order at oustanding quality and a taste sensation cooked from an open kitchen by a chef from Athens. Again the attention to detail is remarkable.
We spent most our lazy perfect days at the Adults section of the beach we we was utterly spoilt by the Staff who again where outstanding, Mohamed at the bar, Islam at the bar and sports bar and Abdullah who looked after the beach.,, Wow!! Take a bow Gentlemen I applaud you as we have never been treated like it before anywhere and we have had the privilege to stop in some great hotels around the world.
I love the way that they are continuously as a team of people striving to get everything just perfect and always asking for any suggestions, which they do listen too, to acheive this. Mr Ahmed Youssry, as the hotel Manager you must be very proud to lead a remarkable team and provide your guest with an outstanding hotel that I feel is perfect in every way.
I honestly couldnt recommend the Crystal Bay Resort enough and if you are looking for a fantastic holiday at an outstanding location then this hotel delivers in abudance... just go and experience the unbelievable hospitality and dont be scared to ask for anything to make your stay perfect because the staff will go out of the way to get it for you..Especially Catherine..

Finally ******* WOW *******
Cant wait to come back and thank you all again, memories and friends made for life...
