“Good Hotel, but where's the Coconut milk!!”
Reviewed 20 April 2014

Just back from a week at this Hotel, overall very nice; clean; tidy; friendly staff; quality of food, not bad (it was all hot, if a few strange concoctions). It was quiet, in terms of guests but it was the week leading up to Easter. There was only a handful of Brits at this Hotel, so for us, it suited. Predominately it is German and Russian guests, of which the later can be very noisy. A big thank you to Hanni, our waiter who made mealtimes amusing.

A couple of minor gripes, no Coconut milk (for Pina Colada's) & the alcohol content for the Cocktails is far too much. It's about taste not burning the back of your throat.
The breakfast box, however, should you go on the Luxor trip, is shocking, to say the least. A mix of stale rolls, croissants and cake all thrown in a bin liner with an orange for good measure. Not really what you'd expect from a 5* Egyptian resort. A bit more care would have been nice. We did raise this, so hopefully they will address for the future. Most guests tend to feed them to the locals at the rest stops on the way to Luxor.
As previously mentioned by another guest, the weekly disco in the mall. The thumping noise of which, can be felt throughout the Hotel up until 4am.

There is a lot of new building work going on, on the main front of the tourist area of Hurghada, but not so that you can hear it. But will go on for a couple of years, I suspect. The local sellers can become a real pain in the backside, so be warned.

Overall we had a good stay, we went for the weather and it didn't disappoint.

Room Tip: The fifth floor will give you a better view.

My wife and I stayed at this hotel a few years ago and had a wonderful time with the kids and with our friends. The location, the settings be it on the beach front or the large pool area are fantastic.
The food variety is also impressive and entertainment as well are all well worth the visit.
Seems to be Germans heaven, but many nationalities encountered there.
The services are good and would stay there again and recommend it for a layed back experience.

Room Tip: Front sea view

We have recently returned from a week's break at this hotel where we have stayed previously. We have always found that the food staff and accommodation to be very good. Unfortunately there were changes from last year. The tour operator is now abusing young people into a make shift open sided `club` in the Mall adjacent to the hotel. One side of this area is full of large speakers. The sound check started at 17.00 hours and lasted for an hour when the bass boomed so much the hotel seemed to vibrate. This was nothing to the noise when the show really got started.Even with the air conditioning turned on full you couldn't avoid the thump thump of the so called music that went on until 3.30am. Not what you expect from a family friendly hotel.
Really will stop us from returning especially as the rooms have not been refurbished in over 9 yrs and are looking rather tired. This is also coupled with the tour operator changing air lines and the flights times are much worse than previously. It is a shame that the changes do not to enhance the customer's holiday experience but actually make it a worse one

We just wanted a week in the sun and nothing more. This was the right place to be. No music at the swimming-pool, no entertainment hassle around you and very good service. We had a beautiful room facing the poolside and enjoyed everyday of the good food, during breakfast and dinner. Grand Resort is a perfect place for a relaxing stay.

Just had a week at The Grand Resort - fab room ( small bath) great view. Fresh bath / hand towels daily. Pool towels provided daily to your room.
Very poor Internet connection so usually went to local bars/ cafes. Staff very polite even came to room in evening to turn down the bedding. Good choice of foods at breakfast. Bank directly opposite hotel- lots of haggling by local shop keepers. 24 hour cafe Big Brother serves very reasonable prices. Lovely wooded padded sun beds. Hotel so big didn't see all of it. Parts are a little worn out. Before you book massages/ beauty treatments shop around. All in all a relaxing atmosphere and value for money.

For a last minute sun holiday at a low price this hotel was perfect. We were half board and found there was always enough choice of food for both breakfast and evening meal. Disappointing that no drinks were provided at all with evening meal, usually on half board basis you are provided with at least soft drinks/water however these were all at a cost which was double to that of the concession bars within the grand resort complex. Fresh eggs were cooked for you for breakfast and on a night you could have fresh noodles. Lunch time food around the area is poor, there is buffet service provided by the hotel for 60ept however this is all offered and few surrounding restaurants.
The room was spacious and again perfect for what we needed it for, towels changed daily and beach towels and beach bag provided. Only the one pool is heated which is a shame however fair enough considering low occupancy, just the side where the sun is hottest is where the pool is not heated.
All staff were extremely friendly and most would do anything for you, we tipped small amounts however did not feel pressured into doing so as have felt in previous hotels.
The surrounding area isn't the most attractive and there is little around the area, however if you want a relaxing sun holiday then this is perfect.
