“"great value for money holiday would recommend to friends"”
Reviewed 7 August 2011

Before going on our holiday we read the reviews and were bit anxious on what to expect. We need not have worried at all! On arrival at Hurghada airport we were met with many red sea tour guides who couldn't do anymore to help you, we were escorted to our waiting coach and upon taking our seats we were taken straight to our hotel which was less than a 10 minute transfer. On arrival at the hotel check in was very swift and the receptionists were very friendly and helpful. We were then escorted to our rooms with our luggage which was close to the pool area and restaurants.

First impression:

Hotel is clean, well laid out to all amenities and location is great especially with being so close to restaurants, pubs shops and of course the airport!!

Beach:-

The beach is man made so it is not soft and sandy but it does have a sand bank with shallow water both sands for children to play in and explore looking for fish. Around the jetty area is very deep and especially first thing in the morning it has a lot of fish in the area. A couple of mornings though we discovered that the tide had brought in lots of jelly fish but we dont know if they sting or not and didnt fancy taking the chance!!!!! There are lots of sun loungers on the beach and a beach grill offering snacks and drinks.

Accommodation:

We stayed in the bungalows and they were large, clean and of a really good size. We had a large balcony with part sea view that mainly looked over the fantastic gardens that were really looked after by all the garden staff. We had a tv with two english channels that showed mainly movies (especially good for chilling out with) at the end of your day. The bed was enormous, comfy and could easiily sleep three adults!! There is a safe deposit box which is free of charge in the room. The room was cleaned and the bed was made every day and we had clean towels every day. When you first arrive at your room you find a canvas siva grand bag with yellow beach towels for your use which we thought was really good. The air conditioning works so well I personally found it very cold during the night and needed to put on the extra blanket!!! but during the day heat it can be very refreshing!!! Tip:- Room bar fridge is NOT included in the all insclusive option so anything you use out of it will be charged to your room when you checkout at end of your stay and the drinks are expensive than normal. We used the two small bottles of water in the fridge when we first arrived as there was no large bottle in the room and we paid nearly £1.50 per small bottle. You do however get one large bottle of water per day free of charge There is a large cheap supermarket across road from the hotel that sells large bottles of water.

Restaurants:

There are three restaurants, the ground floor and upper floor (sharm and Amar) in the reception area are the main restaurants for your evening meal and offer a range of different types of food. There is a lot of german based foods on offer but we always found something to eat and certainly didn't go hungry!! The Oasis restaurant opposite the beach is fantastic for everyday lunch and the staff are very friendly indeed especially Mohammed Ibriaham who looked after us every day!! The waiters are friendly and always check that everything is ok even if they havent had any tips. when you do tip the waiters they are very grateful and appreciate it very much. On Sunday night we went to the Oasis for American speciality night where we ate a large range of different foods but you have to book into these specialty nights when you first arrive at the hotel. There are three speciality nights Sunday-American night, Tuesday-Asian night and Friday- Siva specialty night. One tip is when you go for breakfast in the restaurants do not take the offer of fresh orange juice as it is not included in the all inclusive package and costs really £2,50 per glass. There is a pizza hut beside the pool which offer great pizzas but they are small so sometimes we ordered two at a time. There is also a grill by the pool which offers burgers, hot dogs (not same taste as english ones) and chips!! Le Terrace bar by the pool offers a late breakfast which is mostly continentail but is very tasty! There is a seafood restaurant that is on the jetty but it is NOT included in the all inclusive package but the food that we saw being cooked looked delicious:- bbq prawns, crevettes, lobster and calamari.Beside the pool their is ice creams availble from 13.00 and waffles from 3.00 which are both delicious.

Drinks:

The drinks are very good value based on the all inclusive package, the beer is good, spirits are very strong so good to order an extra soft drink with it to top it up! The waiters often come up to you whilst laying on the sunlouger and ask you if you would like a drink, they did not ignore us (english) and were always making jokes with us! They couldn't do enough for us and some of them mentioned that they prefer english to some of the other nationalities as we were always so polite. There are four bars where you can get drinks from and a cocktail bar. we enjoyed sitting on the jetty watching the fish and enjoying a cold beer!

Sunbeds and Pools:-

We got up early each morning to put our towels out usually about 7,30 but there was always sunbeds still available at 9.00 so there is no need to rush out of bed in the mornings. There is one large pool with a swim up bar and a childrens pool, sometimes the water is cold but only in the morning otherwise not too bad throughout the day.

Entertainment:

There is a few activities during the day such as water polo, water gymnastics, volleyball, football, darts etc. There is evening entertainment between 8.30-9.00 there is cnhildrens dancing and then usually a singer, belly dancer, spinning man or the hotels animation team perform their own shows, like "music from around the world" and "this is it - Michael Jackson tribute show. Most of the entertainment stops around 10.30-11.00 and your all inclusive option for drinks finshes at 12.00 midnight. There is an option to attend the "Beach party" on a Tuesday night free of charge but that is at "The Grand Hotel which is about half an hours walk away. We chose not to go as had Asian speciality night the same night. We didn't go expecting broadway shows and what entertainment there was seemed suitable for the majority of the guests.

With regards to other nationalities i.e. Germans etc we found they were quite pleasant towards us and we had no trouble with them , some even said hello and or just smiled at us.

Negative points are very few but i would say entertainment should be little more towards the english, the mini fridge in the room, fresh orange juice in the restaurants and the seafood restaurant should all be included in the all inclusive package. The hotel is largely occupied by other nationalities but we did meet and see English people too.

Overall we had a great holiday and I would definetly return to the siva and I would most definetly recommend and use the Red Sea Holiday company, cannot fault them in any way. If we return to Egypt will use them again rather than using companies like Thomas Cook etc as was swift and hassle free from time of booking to returning home from our holiday. Been home two days and want to go back!!!!

Room Tip: If you want quiet room ask to be placed in a bungalow behiind the high level rooms much quiter and s...

Just got back from this hotel on the 29th july. The hotel is located in a ideal location lovely gardens tended all the time, right on the beach which is sandy. Take proper beach shoes with you as getting in and out of the water is a bit stoney and awkward.

On arrival we were upgraded to a junior suite without asking for it quite near reception on the ground floor. Room was a good size with a couple of setees nice and clean, bathroom was a bit grubby and dated and could do with an upgrade but apart from that happy with room.

Hotel only ten minutes from the airport so no long transfers either which is great after a long flight.

outside hotel you are not hassled too much by the shopkeepers if you just politely say no they leave you alone. The taxi drivers are on to you all the time as you are walking down the street. If you want to use them always fix a price first . new marina 25 egyptian pounds,
about £2.50

The pool and beach area during the day was very nice with good sunbeds and umbrellas the only problem was the waiters around the pool did not want to serve the brits they would walk around to all the germans even if they were asleep they would tap them and ask if they wanted a drink and then they would walk straight past us without even looking at you despite us tipping regularly. And if you went for your own drink to the bar they would ask you what you wanted and tell you to sit down and they will bring it to you but half the time they would not bring it. Very frustrating.

We went on a boat and snorkelling trip called the paradise trip a very nice day which finishes with you watching the sunset on the way back to port. It cost £40.00 with the rep but when you look on the german notice board their trips are a lot cheaper than the brits get them for.

The biggest problem with the hotel is it is set up to get more and more money out of you even though it is all inclusive. We were asked if we wanted to go to a special evening called the oriental night at the oasis restaurant, we said yes as the entertainment was really poor as it usually is in egypt so we thought it would be something different. It cost £15.00 each but what a waste of money, the food was no different to the all inclusive menu and the entertainment which is what we paid for was on the main stage by the pool two nights later. So dont be duped in to going its not worth it. I complained at reception when checking out of hotel but the receptionist was not interested.

Lovely clean hotel , rooms had great views. The hotel was set in lovely surroundings. Entertainment poor but staff tried really hard. Food was limited for children - generally evening meals were very German orientated ( would have been ok if we were in Germany!!!)
Would be very wary of allowing children to have henna tattoos at the waterfront as my son had a terrible reaction resulting in a trip to A & E and numerous GP appointments on arriving home- he now has a permanent reminder of the holiday on his upper arm!

The first thing you notice when you step into the hotel is how new and clean everything is. This is mainly because of the gardeners who work around the clock. Contrary to most reviews I thought the food at Siva was excellent lots of choice and different places to eat.The best food is definitely the waffles crepes and pizza all of this in the all inclusive. So you don't have to worry about having enough money. The beach is very nice however there is not any fish or coral. Also this hotel mainly caters for Germans and of course guess who is up at 7am stealing all the sunbeds! The rooms we had were very nice clean bathroom balcony comfy bed. The TV however only had 2 English channels. There was a very good choice of all inclusive cocktails. However for children there were only two non alcoholic cocktails. Then we get to the one big problem. The staff! The staff which I met were always reluctant to do there job (with the exception of gardeners and waffle and pizza man) they would never give you enough attention and tried hard to not serve you. One man who had a shop next to the oasis cafe was incredibly rude making up prices and being very lazy and stubborn. The staff just don't seem to have any energy and try to do thing as slowly as possible. However this all changes when they get a tip then its all smiles. But this is the only big problem. I would definitely advise people to go and remember to bag a deck chair before it is taken by old fritzy.

Room Tip: Put it this way a little bit of money to the receptionist goes along way.

My girlfriend and I have just returned back from a 7 night stay in Hurghada at the Siva Grand Beach. Initially I was anxious after reading reports here on tripadvisor, however I've come home super happy, de-stressed and tanned (important!) after having an excellent stay at the Siva.

The Red Sea Holiday rep who greeted us from the airport (and who was available every morning and night) named "Sammy" was 10/10. Perfect English, friendly and more than happy to help and very approachable. Made the whole holiday as smooth as possible and to good effect, from airport transfers to organizing day trips (such as snorkeling, super safari etc).

THOROUGHLY RECOMMENDED: SUPER SAFARI day trip

From 12pm - 7.30 pm you are taken into the Sahara desert to experience camel rides, horse rides, donkeys, quad biking, spider cars (like sand buggies), and for a tour of the Bedouins (Egyptian desert settlers) and their life. Our trip was £55 through Sammy and red sea holidays, and although you could have probably got it cheaper outside the hotel from one of the dodgy looking blokes, I think the extra bit of money is well worth the peace of mind, considering we had a fluent English speaking tour guide, a lovely BBQ meal at the end of the day and an awesome show of traditional Egyptian entertainment. There was only about 8 of us on the trip, who were all English also - so it wasn't like a mass herd of sheep being shown round the desert aimlessly, I thought it was given a lot of love, care and attention. Our tour guide Ahemed/Toba was also very good. Polite, perfect English and very informative and attentive.

OK THE HOTEL:

Very clean, people always cleaning the floors, watering and tending to the lovely gardens, our room cleaner knocked politely every day to see if we needed a tidy up. If did say yes, we returned to find a spotless, clean & tidy room with lovely little swans and love hearts made out of our beach towels.

FOOD:

First night I wasn't impressed at all, but as each day passed, the food thankfully got better and better. There's a massive selection of bread, salads, soups, main courses and side dishes. For desert, there is a big selection of cakes and fruits. There is two restaurants in the hotel (we found the upstairs one the better one) - and one called Oasis which is also all-inclusive, but you have to pre-book at the reception. So my tip would be, that as soon as you check in, book a table for Oasis whilst you're there. Lunch at Oasis is free every day and I couldn't really fault it.

There is burgers (chicken/beef), chips, hot dogs and freshly baked pizza by the side of the pool in the day - but I can't say they look too appealing. Had about one plate of chips the whole week I was there. At 3pm onwards they serve waffles with ice cream and various nuts/sauces which were also very good.

ENTERTAINMENT:

Running in line with most reviews on this website, the entertainment is A) Targeted for Germans and B) Not very good at all. The ents team do party dances for the little kids about 7.30/8 every night but again most songs are in German, so if you've got any little ones then they probably won't understand what's going on.

They did a Michael Jackson night when we were there... have to say (without sounding horrible or rude) that the best part of it was listening to MJ's tracks and not the show they had put on.

Weather:

Was 40+ EVERY day. I think it's worth the money for the weather at least as you are guaranteed a tan by the end of it.

Last note:

German hotel, full of them. Some are surprisingly pleasant, but the majority are horrible, rude, ugly looking and ugly speaking people. Never seem to smile (even if you smile at them to say hello!) and look at you like some sort of extraterrestrial. I think they believe it's their hotel so perhaps that's why they have an attitude. I am generally quite open minded and welcoming towards meeting new people abroad but 95% of these people I don't want to meet again.

ANYWAY:

Don't let the bad points put you off. You will get used to them within a few days and you'll be experiencing so much more positivity once you get settled in. We paid £400 each for 7 night stay all inclusive, with transfers etc, and I had a thoroughly good time and will probably go back (I'm hard to please so they've done well!) We made friends with about three English couples whilst we were there so it's not as if the English are an absolute minority, but as said, 95% Germans.

TIPS:
I didn't feel like I had to tip people. I tipped people who smiled and who looked like they were nice, genuine people. Some of the waiters are moody as sin and in honest maybe a little snide (talking in Arabic to their colleagues and having a laugh about something (maybe I'm paranoid) - but only tip if you feel they're worth it. Most are.

And don't forget. GO ON SUPER SAFARI!

Unfortunately for a Brit, this hotel is set up by a German for Germans. I like Germans and found them all very nice, however I didn't want to eat German food everyday!

The reception staff are great. But the entertainment, both evening and daytime was very poor or non-existant as the team failed to get enough people involved to get even a game of waterpolo up and running.

Go to this hotel if your German and want to lay about everyday doing nothing at all.

Don't go to this hotel if you want good food that won't give you stomach ache. The food was ok taste wise but everyone I met said they were ill after every meals. One person I met spent a week in bed. Poor.

Sort these things out and you'll have a hotel worth going to.

My partner & I have just arrived home from the Siva Grand. We stayed for the first week of July.

For a budget holiday, I must say it is very good value. I went to Egypt (Sharm) a few years back and hated everything about the place, so I was expecting another nightmare holiday, but was looking forward to the weather and the Red Sea. I must say my expectations were so wrong, I rearly enjoyed the week away.

The hotel grounds, reception, bars, and rooms are kept spotless. Gardeners and cleaners working all the time to keep the place looking stunning. The hotel had 3 buffet restruants, a number of bars, a BBQ area for lunch, a big pool, and it's own private beach leading the the clear waters of the Red Sea.

The only time I ate in the hotel was breakfast, and lunch even though I was All Inclusive. Breakfast was nice and at lunch most days I just ate at the BBQ which served salad, burgers (beef & chicken), and chips. In the evening we decided to eat out at the many lovely restruants in Hurghada. So I can not comment on the quality of food in the hotel for dinner.

Drinks in the all inclusive programme are local brands, you have to pay for the top brands. Service was ok depending on who your waiter was. Some of them try, but others are not bothered and sometimes you will not get served, so you have to go up yourself to get a drink. Also if you do not tip them, they will not look at you again and try to avoid you for the rest of the night.

Hurghada outside the hotel was a good night out. Hundreds of shops selling everything you can think of and loads of bars and restruants including your world brands such as McDonalds, KFC, Hard Rock Cafe, & Pizza Hut. You will get bothered by the locals trying to get you into their shops, but a simple no thank you and they will leave you alone.

Bad Points I can think of......

The hotel is 95% German to 5% English. The majority of Germans are very rude and will try all the tricks in the book like pushing in on que's, etc. No excuse me, Thank you, or general manners if you do something for them like hold a door or smething minor like that.

Tipping, Yes the Egyptians are very poor and need all the tips they can get, but they expect to be tipped for everything.

Mini fridge in your room is NOT free.

Overall....

A great budget holiday, do not let my bad points put you off, as they are minor annoying problems that you will get used to after a day or two. The weather is amazing, not one cloud and tempertures of 40degrees each day. The hotel and its grounds are stunning. Would I recommend the hotel? Yes if you have a budget, but if you don't and want to be spoilt in paradise spend 2 weeks all inclusive in the Carribean.
