“Great Overnight Stay for AM Departure from Hurghada Airport”
Reviewed 5 January 2011

While this is actually a resort-hotel, I booked a one night stay as I had to catch a flight out of town early the next day. The rooms are clean, and the grounds are quiet at night. Rooms on the main premises, as opposed to the "annex" across the street, include a bar fridge, TV, and air con. The pool area is also quite nice, and the hotel is next to the beach. I didn't use the pool or any of the hotel's other facilities during the day, so I can't speak to those. But, if you need a place to stay at a very reasonable price while you are in transit, I recommend the Safir.

I've stayed at this hotel as part of my tour for 2 night and it exceeded my expectations!
The hotel was really nice and pretty and more importantly clean and comfortable!

The rooms were quite spacious and the beds were nice and comfy. We stayed in a triple room. The room was also equipped with a tv, fridge, toiletries, towels and more. Our room was located at the same level as the pool, infact the pool and the beach were just a few steps away so it was very convenient!

The pool is a great size, it would fit a lot of people and it also has a few tables and chairs in the pool where you can enjoy a nice cocktail, cold drinks and snacks. There is are a couple of cafes in the pool area with tables and chairs to enjoy a variety of food both egyptian and western. The pizza is quite good, i recommend that! There are also lots of sunchairs where you can relax, sunbathe or read a book by the pool and umbrellas if you don't want to be under the sun for too long. At night they also have a bellydancer in the pool area so keep an eye out for that (i don't think that's on every night though).

A few steps away from the pool and there is the hotel's very own section of the beach. Again there are lots of sun beds and umbrellas and you can also hire beach towels. I think you get a towel card when you check in so that you can hire a towel for free. If you have snorkeling gear, don't forget to take it with you, you can spot lots of colourful fish, crabs, etc in the sea. :)

There are a few more restaurants in the resort I'm not sure how many as i haven't been to all of them but there is a nice buffet one upstairs from the lobby and the food was amazing with lots of variety and a great range of desserts too!

Location is pretty good.. It not in the middle of the hustle and bustle which means not too much noise. the city centre is about 10 mins walk away but if you are not upto the walk, it's easy to flag a taxi to take you there but remember to negotiate your price or tell them to restart the meter before you get in, they try to rip off foreigner soo badly. There are a lot of shops/bars/cafes/restaurants/etc. in the city centre this would be the perfect place to pick up souvenirs but remember to negotiate the price once again or prepare to be ripped off!

Hotel staff were very friendly and attentive.. no complaints there. You can ask them for information regarding things to do/see and they'll be happy to assist. There is also internet but i think that it costs money, i haven't used it.

A couple of things i do recommend in Hurghada are desert quad biking and the Gifton Islands tour. We did the Gifton island tour which started from another hotel (i can't remember the name of it) and it included snorkeling in a few different spots in the red sea and of course visiting the Giftun Island. The marine life was just amazing - colorful fish and coral everywhere! The only negative thing that i can think off is that the island was populated with other tourists, there were definitely way too many people there even when we did the snorkelling. But if you don't mind that then i definitely recommend the tour.

So overall, it was a wonderful stay. I had a nice and relaxing holiday.

After sleeping out under the stars at Ras Mohammed, we came to Hurghada looking for a little bit of luxury. The Safir was not exactly luxurious, but it was comfortable, and provided an excellent setting for us to relax for a couple of nights, before heading on to Luxor.

The grounds of the hotel were very attractive. There were some issues checking in as some of the rooms weren't ready, but I was happy to take the time sitting on the balcony overlooking the pool and the sea. On allocation, our room was clean, and the first place for a long time where our guide did not feel the need to tell us to check that everything was working and come back to him with any problems. A very good sign!

We spent the majority of our time in Hurghada on the hotel's private beach, lazing on their rather comfy sun loungers. I had an Aromatherapy massage later in the day at the hotel's Wellness Centre, which was perfect. Other members of our tour spent the day on a snorkelling trip, which also came highly recommended.

Unlike some of the other Red Sea resorts, the hotel is within walking distance of the town, and we took a wander in one evening. Hurghada exists almost exclusively for tourists, and seems souless comapred to Luxor for example, but it was lively at night, when the street vendors were out in force.

We did not try the food in the hotel restaurant, as we ate in town, but the breakfasts were extensive, with a huge choice. I particularly liked the pancakes with natural yogurt, and the mini pastries.

Hurghada was a great place to stay to recharge our batteries, but I was happy to move on and see more of the life of Egypt. I only wish we could have had this quality of hotel in every place we stopped.

After 10 fantastic days in Egypt, our 2 night stay at the Safir Hotel came as a very disappointing end to what was overall an amazing trip. My husband and I are fortunate enough to have travelled quite extensively, and are well versed to claim that the Safir boasts some of the rudest staff we have ever come across. The hotel itself is adequate in terms of ammenities, but lacks the genuine warmth and friendliness that we had encountered elsewhere in Egypt. As a petite woman (and one who was dressed appropriately in respect of islamic culture) I was treated with disdain by staff to the point where my request for a lunch menu was ignored three times (in the end I gave up and sent my 6"3 husband up, the lunch menu followed immediately). Numerous other examples of staff's rudeness could be addressed here, but suffice to say at the end of our stay we were only too glad to leave the hotel and return to the bustle of friendly Cairo. If you want to experience a warm Egyptian welcome, invest your time and money with an alternative hotel as the Safir appears to have forgotton it's manners.

My stay at safir hotel was a very pleasant experience starting from the staff who are all friendly and very helpful, the rooms are clean, the beach and water are amazing even the swimming pool, which everyone seems not to care about, is very well looked after.
The only problem we had was with the food, the lack of variety was a bit strange and also the annex rooms are a bit small so i would recommend reserving the sea view rooms which are more spacious.
Alli in all the hotel offers an amazing experience at a very reasonable price

Overall for the money, its not a bad stay really. When I was there, it wasnt packed with people so it was extremely quiet, in the mornings we had the beach to ourselves. The location is also great for a few reasons. Its away from the busy downtown , so there is no honcking and heavy traffic, or big crowds. If you want to go to town, you dont even need to take a cab, you can take a romanic walk along the shore and you're there in less then 15 minutes. A cab back to Safir will cost 5 pounds. Cabbies will want 10 or 15 so stay firm, say 5 pounds, if they resist, walk away and they will say, ok 5 ponds. Breakfast was not the best. the sweet breads and juice is ok, but the eggs are a funcky watered down mess. Morning wait staff grumpy not the friendliest. Had diner there one night at te terrace restaurant facing the water. The view is the only god thing. My wife and I only ordered burgers, hers came out first, she finished her meal and 30 minutes later came mine. Was not impressed with the taste of the food there. Try to eat downtown. Food and prices are amazing. Must try howowshi, a meat sanwich that became our favorite, also there is every kind of restaurant you want there too, including pizza hut and Burer King. Safir rooms are clean but not modern. Old green furniture and ungly bathroom, , weird electronic aparatus that looked like it was from the 40s, built into the night table. The terrace of the room was GREAT! awesome view of the red sea and the pool. Very romantic for dinner and drinks in your own little patio. The pool bar is horrible, unfreindly bartender, expensive drinks served in plastic cups, dont bother. Internet area is expensive so dont even bother there either. The grounds are very nice, great for pitures, especially by the docs and the beach. The safari girl Olga is very nice, we sugest you book with her, great prices, great time! almost all the guests were russian. I dont have anything agains anybody, but the russians there were, cold, angry, and not the friendliest people. So if yo dont mind them, you'll be ok. overall, if you are looking for 5 star luxury, this is not for you, if you are looking for an affordavle hotel with great views and quiet grounds, i recommend the safir.

We stayed at this hotel for 3 nights. The bed was a good and I slept fine but the room was a bit dated, but clean. The hotel was in a good location, about a 5 minute taxi ride from the centre of Hurghada. The hotel had a good size swimming pool and it had its own private beach. The hotel was also in quite beautiful surroundings. There were small gardens around where the swimming pool was. The hotel also supplied beach towels for guests to borrow for free. The breakfast was good but nothing special. Drinks were decently priced.
