I have just returned from a 2week stay at this hotel and like a few others I was slightly concerned after reading some of the reviews.
I arrived on the 17Feb2009 and was disappointed at the first impression of the hotel as the hotel is being refurbished and at the front entrance there was building work being carried out. However, on entering the lobby was pleasantly surprised. The check in was fast and pain free. There were porters ready to take your bags to your room.
We were then showed to our room. Room 3206 which was a bungalow style room and had a sea view. The room was one of the best i have stayed in. It was clean and spacious with two queen size beds. The porter did wait for a tip but we expected this and you only need to tip small amounts.
The resort itself is lovely with your own private beach and pool. On the beach there is plenty of sunloungers and wind breakers which you will need at this time of the year as the resort can be windy.
The beach has its own bar offering drinks and snacks. The snacks are normally just rolls with ham or cheese. Nothing exciting. The beach has its own diving centre and water sports such as wind surfing or kite surfing.
The animation team were also on the beach offering daily activities such as volleyball, step aerobics, football etc Although there program was the same every day. We did join in but found it to be mostly russians that were taking part.
The beach had its own corals so you can snorkel here aswell.
The food seems to be the main complaint from other reviewers. Yes the food isnt great and on a fortnight stay it does get repetative and we were starting to struggle.
The breakfast was the best meal of the day offering a range of danish pastries which were lovely, fruit, and egg station where you could have your choice of omlettes, fried eggs or pancakes.
Lunch and dinner were pretty similar. There was always soup which was nice and fresh salad. Dont expect the food to be roasting hot but there is a microwave if you would like your food hotter. We always managed to find something to eat and would recommend the desserts as they were always good.
The service in the restaurant was excellent and our waiter Abdul for the fortnight could not have done more.
The Lobby bar was relaxed but the service could sometimes be a hit or a miss depending on the mood of the main barman Mohammed. He could sometime be grumpy. They would only allow you 1 drink at a time so at 5 to midnight just before closing you could not get anymore drinks to keep you going.
There is cocktails in the bar. However i never had the same cocktail twice. The Vodka 007 could be anything from Vodka and lemonade to any concotion of vodka and mixer.
The evening entertainment was normally in the form of a show the best one of the bunch being the fire eater. That show was brilliant. Most of the entertainment is your usual cheesy hotel shows. They are held in the disco in the hotel.
There is also a billiards room in the hotel which had pool and snooker tables and pingpong along with table football. The hotel also has its own tennis courts which you can use for free once per week of your stay.
The hotel itself is quite far out of the centre of Hurghada but the hotel did offer a free shuttle bus once per week of your stay.
The hotel seems to mainly cater for Russians and Germans but this did not in anyway affect our stay.
I would definately recommend this hotel for the service alone. The Egyptian people could not have been anymore friendly and made our holiday for us. We really didnt want to come home.
Note: Thomas cook trips - We done the 1 day Luxor trip which we would recommend and the scuba diving which was fantastic and not expensive at all. £100approx for 2 of us for a whole day. Both of us were new to diving and was one of the best experiences.
Avoid the jeep safari, it was terrible.
Visit Hurghada centre but be prepared for the Egyptian people selling you things, they can be quite forcefull and have a category of tricks to get you in there shops. Be polite but firm if you dont want to go in and haggle everywhere.
Visit the Marina in hurghada and we would recommend the thai Restaurant the White Elephant which cost us 300 Egyptian pounds for 2 courses each, bottle of wine and another round of drinks.
