Magawish Village & Resort
Ranked #144 of 222 Hotels in Hurghada
Reviewed 2 May 2012

One of the oldest hotels in Hurghada and you may see it at every corner of the hotel. I applies to reception (old-fashioned, looks like from the Mubarak golden ages;)), restaurant (like a camp canteen), bungalows (like a prison cell). The overall impression of the hotel: gloomy, with little green areas (however hotel is almost 30 years old).
The positive things: the area of the hotel is specious and you do not feel the crowd, even if there are many guests in the hotel. The best thing about the hotel is the beach - I would say this is the best beach in Hurghada or even on all Red Sea coast. It is really sandy, very wide and you do not feel that you sit on the back of the neighbor guest like in most of the other Hrg or SSH resorts. Due to the lack of reef, the see bottom is also sandy and it is perfect for swimming.
The service is lazy and just waiting for tips for doing nothing. Just the animation team is worth to mention - the do their best to keep people active and satisfied.
Manta restaurant is another piece of disaster. I am usually not choosy about the food, but I really had a problem to find something fresh, hot and not testing like the meal I had yesterday and the day before yesterday. Tough meet, no fishes, cold rice, limited number of fresh vegetables and almost no fresh fruits (apart from watermelon). Only deserts deserved 4-stars. The cleanness and service below any standard. The tables are dirty, no clean cutlery or glass even when there is only a few guests at the restaurant. The wine served to the meal (extra paid with HB option) is awful and you wait for it 30 min unless you will tip a waiter (then you wait "just" 15 min). To sum up: noisy, dirty with awful food - avoid. On the other hand, if you eat whatever just to survive – you will survive ;)
The bungalows look like cellars with noisy A/C. I had an impression that both the bad and furniture will crumble into dust if I just touch it. The plus is that a separated "kitchen" area - but not useful in such resort. I really did not feel like in 4-star room and staying inside the room was putting me into depressive mood:(

So, if you consider to book the hotel, forget it – unless it is the cheapest offer to spend few days under Egyptian sun and the only expectation you have is to enjoy the beach time. But if you really want to relax in 4-star standard hotel, find something another.
If you already booked Magawish, have in mind that the beach is really outstanding and you will enjoy it for sure. Take a map of Hrg and board yourself outside the hotel. It is not a problem to take a bus each evening and within 10 min you will be in the center of Sakkala with plenty of good restaurants and coffee shops. You will come tired enough not to notice the depressive accommodation and ignore the lazy service.

we went here mainly for kitesurfing, unfortunately was a bad experience from all points of view. The accomodation it's only acceptable at Lotus apartments, the bungallows should have been long closed and renovated, they are a disgrace. The bedsheets and blankets in the bungallows have stains, had to send it back several times.

For kitesurfing, the place was a complete no no. Although Magawish it's the first openned in Hurgada in years 70-80', it's by far the worst for this sport. The kite beach it's down the valley which makes gusts present, we're talking between 20 to 35 knts ! The hazards include ships and touristic boats on the surfing channel, the rescue service is well organized by the spot but instead of taking you from the launching point, they take you by boat 1km away, where the 1 floor kite spot was built (?) I wonder what was on their mind not thinkingof the impact this building will have on kites...

For kitesurfing we had to take a daily taxi to El Gouna, 25 minutes one way.

The staff was alright, food plenty but repetitive, in one word they really should close down and use all that huge land and beach to build something more attractive.

Room Tip: only worth booking Lotus rooms, as they are refurbished

Visit end on November 2011: This hotel is in a remote location & not in the centre of the tourist district - 30 minute walk to the nearest tourist area. The hotel bars have very little atmosphere & most close at 7 PM. The only bar open of an even was open air & it was very cold - this spoilt the evenings. The food was OK but very little variety. The beach was great, one of the best & largest of any hotel that I have visited. The staff were OK but not service orientated. The gym is old as is the equipment. This hotel is the second oldest in Hurghada. We were the only English couple in the hotel, everyone else was Russian.

Room Tip: Ask for a room facing the sea.

This hotel is 30 years old huge complex with mostly bungalows and some lux rooms as well. Bugalows are really old, poor equiped and very dirty! Blankets and sheets were in terrible condition, shower was really small- when I had shower I always felt the courtain on me, disgusting! We did not have electricity in the sockets on the wall next to the bed and when we noticed that to the reception, they didn't do anything. We asked for kettle and they promissed to bring us the next day, but they forgot it. There are two swimming pools but we didn't use because of cold water (we were there on November) Staff was waiting for tips for nothing all the time! Our room was worse because we didn't give them money extra in the passport during check in time.We needed to walk a lot because the place was really huge and we had almost 1 km to go for dinner to restaurant! We bought all inclusive trip so we could have drinks for free, they gave us alkohol in small plastic cubs which was so uncomfortable and we prefer not to drink than drink anything! The hotel is situated 12 km to Sakkala, the closest centre of Hurghada, so we travelled there by taxi (approximately 4$)or by small bus (approximatelly 2 egyptian pounds) Going to Egypt you need to know that they take tips for almost everything and you need to trade with them even in pharmacy and supermarkets. Ottherwise you can pay 100$ for even small souvenir. That was tiring. Beach at the hotel was fantastic- wide and sandy, mattress for free, bar on the beach and some entertainments, but nothing interesting. There's also kitesurfing spot Colona water sports. Verry bad condition and verry expensive! They wanted 80 Euro for one hour with an instruktor. 30 km further we found other spot where we paid 29 Euro per hour. We went there because of the spot but we were really disappointed of this place! That is four stars hotel but completely distroyed and there is big difference beetween Magawish and other newer 4stars hotels.
We will never come back to this hotel again. We were completely dissapointed.

Room Tip: put 10$ to passport and you will get better room, but even that will not help you a lot

This is a resort rather than a hotel, so be prepared for long walks to reach restaurants, bars, pools, beach etc.
The food is of the usual buffet variety, but plentiful.
Rooms comfortable - we stayed in the Lotus part of the resort, and we had a twin bedroom, lounge with sofa and tv, kitchen area with cooking facilities and a fridge.
There are not enough sunbeds around the pool, which can make life difficult. The main bulk of the holidaymakers seemed to be Eastern European.
Staff seem to be tip orientated - the guy who brought our gear about 5 yards after it was unloaded from a van seemed very reluctant to leave and commented that our bags were heavy !
There are plenty of amenities scattered around the resort - dive school, wind-surfing, pools, bars - but all inclusive does not mean what it says - you are limited to which bars you can go to, and whats worse, the drinks are served in plastic cups - and also very liberal with the spirits, to the extent that they were undrinkable - a vodka and coke(pepsi) even diluted with a second cup of pepsi just was awful. Ask for fruit juice and you get Fanta (or equivalent)

The room was clean, the food edible, but apart from that I can see no reason to recommend this resort.
