My wife and I enjoyed our stay in a beautiful suite at the Stella Makadi overlooking the pool and beach area. Our suite was very comfortable, large and extremely modern and made us feel good about the hotel in general. The meals were rather less pleasing, it was all done self service style which can be okay but the food was not that appetising and I think a 5 star platinum hotel should have waiter service anyway! We had heard a lot about how good the sweets, puddings, or desserts were but were totally dissappointed here as they were all of the airey fairy type with no real substance ie: real spongy cake mix was nil. There were a couple of alternative restaurants within the complex but these charged extra whereas elsewhere in the same vicinity other same class hotels made no extra charge. The entertainment was a bit iffy here and there with some good acts interspersed with rather second rate stuff. We liked the outside seating and waiter service for drinks in the evening but not easy to find a good seat. Also a lot of Russians here who do tend to be a bit surley. The one thing that really did spoil our stay was the Hotel's Health Club touts who would not take no for an answer and who booked us in for 4 massages by sheer determination when we only had time for 2 or 3? They eventually gave us a refund on the one we could not get in but it was an effort for us to get it. If we went to Egypt again we would not go as far out from the city center as we were here. A great excursion is the dessert trip to do the Quad biking, nomad village, camel riding, 4x4's, etc; This was brilliant and very good value for money and even included a meal! We stayed here after a week's Nile cruise aboard MS Monica which I think is a good option for anyone wanting to know more about Egypt's past history. Our overall opinion on the Stella Makadi then is that it is a 5 star hotel with excellent suites but that is let down by it's dining system, quality of food and evening entertainment.

Just returned from a fab week at Stella Makadi Bay, a wonderful resort with just great staff, stayed in room 3106 with some of the best room service ever (thanks Mohammed) spotless clean, sheets and towels changed everyday, nothing was too much trouble, food was good plentiful and hot, with a good variety, themed nights excellent.
A few rude people in the dining room, not hotels fault though. If you like a Whiskey buy a bottle at duty free as Whiskey is not very palatable and prices to by good stuff is very high, otherwise everything else is fab, looking to go back in October, overall this was great holiday in a imaculate settings with superb staff.

The Stella Makadi is a very clean and tidy hotel, which is set within well kept gardens directly on the beach. From the beach is a jetty (which has life guards) and gives access to the fantastic house reef (deep water access).
Within the complex there are two pool areas and as we prefer the quieter areas, it was really nice to have a Quiet /Relaxing Pool, without loud music or animation and where you were never bothered by Reps selling Spa treatment, jeep safari etc. There were also plenty of sun beds available. Around the other pool area and the beach, it appeared that you may be pestered by Sales Reps etc.
Our room was very comfortable and thoroughly cleaned daily by house-keeping.
We used the main restaurant for nearly all of our meals and found the food was excellent and varied (One of the best A I restaurants we've been to). We also had a meal (extra cost) in the Indian restaurant, which was also very good.
From the moment we arrived to the time we left, we found all the staff very friendly and helpful.
As previously stated in these reviews this hotel is an international hotel with clients from many different countries. To us this isn't a problem and the staff at Stella Makadi certainly didn't show any bias towards certain nationalities.
We will certainly book again and look forward to the next time.

visited hotel again but this time with my daughter. as it was my 2nd visit we were upgraded to seaview room and a basket of fruit was delivered to our room on the first evening. The hotel was still as nice with friendly staff, nice food and the pools and snorkelling from the jetty were great. There was the ocassional delay in replacment crockery and cups at peak times in the main restaurant but this was never more than a few minutes. We went diving again with Piano divers who remembered my visit in January and were very welcoming and we enjoyed 2 days diving with them. Overall a good value holiday.

This Hotel was immaculate, the rooms, the grounds, the pool areas etc. The staff were all very helpful at all times. Food quality was good and varied.
The entertainment team obviously tried their hardest... but the shows in the evening were a little on the poor side, and there really isn't anywhere else to sit and have a drink away from them!!! . . .
Top tip if you prefer not to be pestered all day long whilst laying on your sunbed, by people trying to sell you... boat trips... diving trips.... massages... etc, would be to use the Relax Pool, which is away from the main pools. It has a swim up bar, and the salespersons are not allowed to tout there!!!
The hotel is about 20miles from Hurghada, and the hotel has a mini-bus that goes there twice a day (cost 7 euros return), returning 3 hrs after dropping you off. To be honest you've seen all there is to see, and had a drink in about 90mins!!

We've taken several family holidays to The Red Sea, but this is the first time to the Hurghada region. The guests at the Stella are mainly from the former Soviet states and at a rough guess make up 80%. The rest is made up of German, Italian, French, Benelux & British (in decending order). There is therefore a bias towards entertaining the Russians/Germans. The evening entertainment is varied and like amateur night at times. Some shows were however very good, as well as some cringingly bad. Also if you are there for two weeks you will find repetition and the daily music is like groundhog day.
The buffet resturaunts were for most of the time like Waterloo station at 5pm on a Friday evening. You had to take great care carrying plates/bowls of hot food with everyone (and small children) all moving in random directions. The seating was good although could do with having the Air Con on at times. The food was average but plentiful so you can generally find something. Also most nights have a theme by country which helps to vary tastes.
A big negative is the hassle you get from the local beach vendors selling trips and additional activities. Although not operated by the hotel they are somehow related i.e. pay the hotel for the privelage. These guys really are pushy salesmen and don't hesitate to disturb you while you are sleeping by the pool. Top tip is to park yourself by the quiet pool to the right of the Hotel where they are prohibited. However you are fair game if you sit by the main pool. Took us 5 days to find that out. The extra activities such as Quad bike desset safari, boat trips etc are priced a little on the high side and you tend to forget what currency you are dealing with at times and lose track of how much things actually cost. The Spa is expensive considering where you are. I had the full works and it's not that great. Furthermore if you want to use the sauna/steam room/jacuzzi it's 10 euro. Most hotels I know this would be free.
If you want a peaceful nights rest ask for rooms way from the main lobby area. Block 60, 70 & 80 would be okay. To be fair all the outdoor entertainment finishes at 11pm sharp, but there are always people hanging around finishing off drinks until well past this time and can be very loud. Also, be sure to use your Do Not Disturb sign on the door otherwise Room service will give you a knock before 9am and often mill around the corridors after 7am sorting themselves out, chatting and smoking. we did ask to move rooms from block 40 to somewhere quieter but apparantly there were no rooms free.
As for all inclusive, well read the details. There are time limits e.g. no free drinks after 11pm. Water in the minibar is however free so take advantage of that. There are a number of boutique shops on the hotel complex. Be on guard. Things that are priced are rediculously expensive (e.g. largish pack of crisps £3), and things that are not priced, barter hard. Some of the shopkeepers are rude, some are very friendly, but all should be working selling Driveways or Double Glazing. There is nowhere near the resort that you can go shopping to find real local atmosphere to pick up a bargain. It's all aimed at getting thr tourist dollar. No question about that.
There are a number of excursions available and one being the boat trip to some islands about an hour away. It's a Snorkelling trip and the snorkelling is good albeit very crowded in the water. Imagine Japanese tourists in London and you get the idea, but it's in the water. This island is sold as 'Paradise' and the pictures on the brochure look fantastic. Stay on the boat. Sure the there are soft coral sands for the first 10 meters of beach and the water is crystal clear, however there is no shelter from the sun, you stop there for about an hour and it's packed solid, boats fill the horizon and little boats that ferry back and forth wreck what peace there could be with their outboards. Paradise - no.
In summary, the hotels was good value for money, but you need to get wise fast to the local vendors intruding your pool space. Extras are expensive. Caters mainly for Russians and it's all a little tacky in places. All said, the staff at the hotel are typically nice, genuine and friendly, although some, like most places in the world, are doing what they can to get money off you.
Oh, almost forgot, if you are going there for SCUBA Diving, don't. The Piano Dive Centre is a joke and like Fawlty Towers. I planned to do a number of dives, but after 2, I called it a day. I've done about 30 dives in the Red Sea, all of them fantastic and all of them safe. We had a group of 3 divers booked on one trip, found that when we got to the boat it was one of these glass bottom boats, about 20 ft long, no space at all to move around and also had 4 crew, 7 snorkellers and a couple fishing (who was subsequently told by the trourist police to stop fishing. The rod and the trip were sold by the Diving Centre. It's a National Park for goodness sake). Besides the small boat which was literally falling apart, the outboard broke down at sea, could not get it started at the pier (until someone relaised the fuel cut-off was on. This is a Comedy written for you) and there was no Oxygen on the boat, which is regulation for Dive boats. I also heard from another guest that they were running dive trips on a 15 ft rubber inflatable. No joke.

I would say this is a 4 star resort trying hard to make out it's 5 star.

Room Tip: Rooms away from main lobby are recommended
