“Excellent value for money”
Reviewed 26 October 2011

Just returned from Stella Makadi, 18-25 Oct. Had a very nice week here, very nice hotel lovely and clean, gardens kept immaculate, weather perfect 30's with a nice breeze. Staff work really hard and are very friendly, stayed in block 7000 very quiet, lovely views of the garden.Nice room we had a triple room 2 twins pushed together which made a huge 7' bed very comfy ,son had a proper single bed. Food was excellent a different theme every night hubby is a fussy eater and even he was impressed with selections, beach bar great for lunches freshly cooked snacks. Spent most of the time on the beach made friends with the guys selling trips. Highly recommend the 4 island trip booked with the Dolphin House Aqua Centre on the beach (Hi Moses) great day, lots of snorkeling in gorgeous seas with lunch on board,Paradise Beach with its turquoise waters stunning, life jackets were provided for those who are'nt strong swimmers and as a first time snorkeler like me it was great seeing the different corals and the fish , and the high light of the trip was seeing Dolphins on the way back they can't guarantee this so we felt priviliged to have seen them swimming beside the boat, and jumping in the waves. We also did Horse riding in the desert with the Seahorse riding centre also on the beach ( Hi Abdul and Casenova), very safe horses , hats and chaps provided if you want them horses to suit different abilities , galloping in the desert is truly amazing and the sunset was stunning! Quad biking in the desert also with the guys on the beach , again great bunch of guys we had such a laugh. Its definately worth haggling to get the prices down as with most of the trips. Cons weak alcohol, you certainly wont get drunk. Brits in the minority mainly German. Thought pools could have been a bit warmer.
I'd say its a very nice 4* good value for money.

I stayed at the Stella for a weeks stay with my husband & teenage son , the hotel was lovely couldn't fault it in the slightest couldn't do enough for you , they don't expect tips like they do in sharm , stayed in block 5000 the bed linen was changed everyday , floors moped & cleaned ( as in hotel they never stop cleaning ) I think the stars are right I would say 4 * at moment , they cater entertainment wise for the Germans & Russians both day & evening entertainment , not much to do with a teenager , glad we were there for only a week + there are 2 alcarte restaurants there a Italian & Indian which are both very nice , but you should get free 1 per stay ! Lots of shops on complex(bit pushy but haggle with them it's so funny ) , night club bubbles it's called we went to after entertainment and all inclusive finished at the evening at 11 o clock was bout £3 a drink but for a one off was fine but also again not all inclusive but very English music which they lacked a good disco on entertainment one evening ! ,we didn't get ill this time obviously most places yr body has got to adjust to climate etc ... So yes all in all hotel can't fault it ! But then we get to thomas cook who we booked with the rep could do with going on a customer care course Kerry she was called , booked two trips one arabian nights & shop n rock to hurghada , we were excited bout an evening out to desert belly dancers etc for a change & an hour before we ate due to go its cancelled with a note shoved under the door , when speaking to kerry the day after as we couldnt find her she told us there was only 9 people booked on it so was cancelled as they needed 20 to go which I have never heard of before & was never explained would be due to numbers if trip would go ahead ( no apology or sorry ) & as we were only there for 1 week was nothing they could do ! Was offered a water park but was going to Egypt for culture not slides must admit put dampner on holiday for us and my son ! Not helpful in the slightest .. She also offered on the meet & greet a £50 voucher for filling a questionnaire in on yr way home , the steward looked at me like I was stupid never heard of it !! So take note ;-) but couldn't fault the hotel !

We actually went in Jan 2011 - this was a bit of a last minute booking and we were looking for something cheap but classy which is no mean feat. Give how much we paid we were very impressed.
Pros:
Rooms - very nice - with nice views, clean and spacious with comfortable beds
Buffet - yes it can be a bit crowded and like school dinners, but I loved it, and it made for a bit of fun. Lots of choice, and variety they try to cater to all nationalities and the best bit if you are wanting to be healthy there are lots of lean meats and salads. The staff were excellent, particularly the restaurant manager.
General environs - had really quite a classy feel about it which belied the cheap cost.
Beach - really nice views, lovely promenade down the jetty where it is like a fish tank you can just get in and see the fish.
Gym - Could there be a better view from a gym? A bit basic, but as I was mostly the only guest using it, I'm not surprised they haven't made it bigger.
Staff - very helpful and friendly.
Beauty Salon - pro that it has one - however the prices the touts try to charge is ridiculous and equivalent to an upmarket salon in England - like everything here haggle - and make sure you give a big tip to the person actually preforming the treatment as they are probably paid a pittance. I paid about £20 for an hour massage - which was actually an excellent massage.

Cons
Deserts - Whilst in general the food was good - the deserts were really poor - we went to a local cake shop in Hugharda and the cakes were out of this world, so its not that Egyptians don't do desert - so I would say hotel could improve on this.
Drinks - Alcohol was appalling - I'd rather pay a sensible amount of money to have something decent (you can buy there but it is very expensive)
Location - it is very isolated - you can't really go anywhere - getting to Hugharda is over an hour on the bus, and they drop you in a really tacky part for the tourists - if you want to see a bit of real life you'd be better to then jump in a taxi and ask him to show you - but obviously this is very hit or miss - we were lucky and got to the market and a lovely cake shop, but we could have ended up in someone's uncles rug shop I'm sure.

Room Tip: From the layout they all looked pretty good to me

Spent a week here after doing a nile cruise and can say there was no comparision between the 2. Check in was slow and staff not to sure what they were doing.Room was clean and comfortable .Restaurant was a free for all , food was just average and staff not the best. The main bar had 2 people serving which meant queing for 15 mins to get served, finally a waiter found us a table and said he would look after us for the week and he was true to his word big thanks to Yani 5 star bloke. My mum was taken ill in the hotel but the doctor was an absolute star .

what a place warm sunny with a cool breeze just when you need cooling down the staff where fantastic could not fault them at all attended to your every want food was good plenty of choice and service again fantastic the rooms are a wee bit small but you wont want to spend to much time in the room cleaned every day fresh crisp linen every day and bottled water in the fridge.

down side no labeling for the food i am a veggie and was giving meat stuffed musrooms as a veggie option a small point but an important one the food needs to be marked for food allergies

the rep at the resort could benifit from a customer care course and how to treat people my wife was treated to a nothing short than a verbal attack on the bus in front of the rest of the guests we dared not to attend the welcome meeting and she let us know it.

Room Tip: speak to the staff on arrival and they will gladly help

We bought one week of sun in this beautiful hotel. Very clean resort, helpful staff and a beautfiful garden. We stayed the whole week on the beach and made some tours with a boat for snorkling.

Tip: do not book the snorkling and dive boattours with the touroperator, but go directly to the Dolphin House and Piano Dving Club on the beach of the hotel. Ask for Moses. He can offer you a few trips, whole day of short day trips and trips to swim with the dolphins.
Advantage is that you can start the trip at the yetti, you don't have to go to Hurgada, and the prices of Moses are better. The service of Moses is very good. He can advice you.

The only thing we were not enthousiastic about was the bathroom and the shower. Not efficient in space and a weak stream of water from the rain shower. It didnt rain under the rainshower. (More alike an Egyption mini mini rain.)

Room Tip: No lift in the buildings, they have 3 floors.

My partner and I booked this resort through Thomas Cook for 2weeks, returning on the 18th October.
We were greeted at the enterance by staff who despite working exceptionally long hours, were friendly and helpful. One member of staff took our bags off of the coach while we checked in at reception and loaded them up onto the trolley ready to be taken up to our room.
We were then shown up to our room through the hotel grounds which are pleasant and well kept by gardeners who work 12 hour days, and are there 7 days a week.
The room was a good size, clean and tidy, and although our shower did not drain out properly due to the level of the floor, it was cleaned every day without fail, by a lovely guy who could not do enough for you. Our towels were replaced every day and the bed clothes were also changed every morning. The member of staff politely asked if there was anything else we needed before leaving us to unpack.
My partner and I really only booked the holiday to give us a chance to spend some time together and relax so the majority of our time was spent by the pool and beach. There are 2 pools, one of which is large and run by the entertainment team, and the other is slightly smaller, but quiet and relaxed.
The first pool staff are allowed to approach you for a chat and a chance to try and sell you one of the many excursions there are to go on, the second pool they are not allowed to come over to, but as long as you tell them you are not wanting to book anything that day they wont hassle you anymore. We preferred to stay at the second pool, reading our books and taking a dip occasionally. Both pools have a swim up pool bar, and the one we spent most of our time at was lovely. Raymon and Sameh were particularly friendly, and would happily whip us up a cocktail or 2 while we sat having a chat.
Meal times at this hotel are an experience to say the least! this however, is not down to the staff, but down to the other visitors staying there. We queued up on many occasions at both the main resteruant and beach bar with the other guests, only for a rude German to barge in front because for some reason they dont feel the need to queue! Many other customers also insisted on ignoring the dress code at meal times, walking around in swimwear and shorts, and men with shirts unbuttoned. This at times can put you off your food! We could not think though, of any reason why these rules were not enforced by staff, apart from the fact that they do not want to upset their customers. At least, this is what we thought, until another customer we had been chatting to got turned away for wearing shorts to dinner...slightly confusing! in my opinion, in a hotel where the clientel are predominantly German, the staff are happy for them to run around doing as they please, but then try and enforce the rules to everyone else. but enough abut that.
One of the evenings was in fact my birthday. Staff soon caught onto this fact, and I was invited to the resteraunt to my own decorated table, presented with a lovely cake and sung to by a group of waiters. the staff genuinely care about their customers and they made sure we had a wonderful evening! Waiters who looked after us exceptionally well during our stay were Gamal and Hanni. These people work 12 hour shifts, often for over a month before having 1 or 2 weeks off, and I could not believe how they always were so friendly, working so hard and always had a smile on their face!
The quality of the food may not have been 5 star, but when you take into account how many nationalities and tastes they have to cater for every day, we thought the chefs did brilliantly, there was always a selection of hot meats, pastas and vegetables, and a huge salad bar, along with a desert section too. We couldn't really fault this area of the hotel either. The main resteraunt was open for lunch, but if you wanted something smaller, or was happy sitting by the pool, you can grab a hot or cold snack from the beach bar.
Evening entertainment was not our cup of tea, and was mostly focused on German and Italian guests. Some evenings were not hosted by the entertainment team though, and instead we saw a belly dancing show, and also a fire eating show which was worth watching. My partner and I decided to sit at the back of the terrace with a few drinks and watch from afar rather than getting too involved with all that!
We also spent a lot of time down at the shisha lounge on the beach. The guys in there are keen to chat with you, partly to improve their English, partly to be able to sit and have a laugh and joke with you. When they too found out it was my birthday, they even threw me a party with music and dancing, presenting me with a woven carpet made on their loom outside as a gift. The spices and tea they sell are also definitely worth a try. We enjoyed the teas so much we brought some home!
All in all, the hotel was more than adequate for us. We had a very comfortable 2 weeks and I would definitely go back again. The location is a bit cut off from everywhere else though, so make sure you book a few excursions, and take some mosquito repellent with you too, as I got bitten many times! The hotel staff were however, once again very efficient and would frequently come and spray my room for me if I needed them too, leaving us with a can of repellent for use when we wanted it.
