“Lovely Relaxing Holiday - Could be a lot better.”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 March 2014

We travelled to Hurghada as a family for 2 weeks 18th Feb - 4th March 2014.Me,my partner both 26years & our son 6years old. I was also 21weeks pregnant at the time so ready for our last holiday as a 3 to relax.Firstly id like to say we always travel with Thomas cook & have visted Egypt once before but travelled to Sharm-el-sheik.Both Going & coming home were fantastic flights which I am glad of as a hate flying.
On arrival everything was great, flight, transfers & check in at the stella makadi. We went to the welcome meeting on our first day and the rep at the hotel (sorry iv forgot his name) was great he will help with anything & being an Egyptian himself he knows a lot.
We were in the Stella Gardens, pool view room 1865.Lovely room, very clean, everything you need. The hotel grounds are amazing. The pools are great and there is also a heated pool which although it was hot during the day and the sun shone constantly for two weeks is well needed as most of the pools were like ice baths. We couldn't have asked for better weather.2 weeks of 33degrees pure sunshine.
Although the hotel, grounds, pools etc were fantastic this hotel needs a lot of improvement. As I said earlier we have been to Egypt before with Thomas cook & stayed at the sunrise tirani aqua park,we also always go all inclusive so have visited enough to know that most of the time it can be done right. We thought we would try a different hotel with the stella makadi this time as we don't like to visit the same places but on reflection im gutted we didn't go with what we know.

Firstly the big issue here for us was the FOOD.The main buffet restaurant is rubbish. We would turn up look around and within a quick walk up and down the food we were gone & had to make do with other food facilities around the complex.Everything was covered in some sort of sauce so they would have chicken but it was covered in mushrooms,ok if you like mushrooms but your screwed if you don't.They would have a big turkey carved up but no potatoes or veg to go with it.They had beef but it has been cooked in oil so cheap that all that could be tasted was the oil.If your lucky they would have chips but really they are just potatoes cut in the shape of a chip. The rice was boiled so much it was like mush. The whole restaurant just needs re-analysing so much more can be done to help improve the range and quality of the food.
Another problem with the food was the al la carte restaurant booking system which can only be described as an absolute shambles. There are 4 al la carte restaurants if you want some sort of decent food whilst staying here you must book in the restaurants.Firsty though you must queue up for an hour before the seating times to ensure you get a seat..be quick though as the Russians have no sense of queuing!! For example the Italian first seating was at 6:30 so around 5:00 you can waste an hour of your holiday sat outside waiting just to get your name down on the list with a staff member who pops out at 6:00.Alright if its not busy but if it is and your not stood right next to the door people like to push in and if there's too many names down before you then you don't get a place. This really does need sorting as newcomers to the holiday kept coming down at 6:30 expecting to be seated but have no idea that you need to queue an hour before. There is nowhere that explains this to you, even our rep got it wrong at the welcome meeting.
The second big thing that needs improving here is the ENTERTAINMENT. There are some lovely members of the entertainment team here but the night entertainment is extremely poor. The entertainment was also more suited towards Russians and Germans. Which made it boring to watch. When you go all inclusive and there is nothing around your hotel its important that there is a decent entertainment package. Again there is so much more that can be done with this, the shows were rubbish in the whole 2 weeks there was not one single show that I thought oh yeah that was quite good tonight, instead we found ourselves going to bed early watching a film on the tv as this more appealing. Again its not the fault of the entertainment team there just needs to be more outside entertainment brought in Eg - magicians, dancers proper acts.
There is also no beer or alcohol served at the entertainment beer meaning you have to go up to the lobby. The lobby bar area is very dirty, the seats are covered in stains from spilt drinks - some new seating wouldn't go a miss. The music around the pool areas need changing more often,i think I know the whole tracklist off by heart of the one cd that was constantly played.
Some smaller problems:
The beach was lovely, good food at the beach too which helps. No ice cream the whole two weeks which was also a let down as the shops charged nearly £4 for an ice lolly, Again you expect ice cream at an all inclusive.
Although there was lifts in the hotel there were no handrails anywere,I slipped a few times on the marble stairs which is obviously very dangerous even more so being pregnant.
Sheets on the bed are not fitted.Ok if they are big sheets and stay put but they don't.Often we would wake up and find we were asleep on the mattress which is gross as there are no protectors on them.
Most of the staff members are lovely, we don't tip as we expect good customer service anyway by this I just mean a smile & a polite hello we don't go away expecting people to serve us like slaves we just want a nice time & help ourselves.
Prepare to be mythered by the spa people, diving, quad biking etc even a polite no thank you doesn't help they will myther you whatever.
As iv said before the hotel is mostly Russians and Germans although most of them were nice most were rude and even smiling at them you get nothing back, This actually was another major letdown of the holiday. We like to meet people and have a chat with others but couldn't.
Overall we had a lovely time just relaxing and being as a family in the sun.

So much more can be done to improve this hotel we were ready to get home which is very unusual for us as we usually have major holiday blues & don't want to leave.

Room Tip: Go to another hotel - so much more to offer in Egypt.

Just returned from this resort, travelled as 2 families, each with a toddler. Although this review is going to be about the hotel and resort, I will also include information that I would find helpful if travelling with a toddler to this resort as we had to do lots of homework.
We flew for a week here from East Midlands (there is a small free soft play at East Midlands now), checked in and has already emailed the hotel to ask for rooms near to each other. We were given a first floor room with conjoining door which worked out great for us. Ask for a kettle when you check in, they will provide you with one. The cot we were given was very unsteady and my little boy managed to kick the side off, so we asked it to be changed to a travel cot, this was done within a couple of hours. We had a huge bathroom with a bath and a separate shower, shower gel and shampoo is provided in dispensers on the wall, there is also a hair dryer and a safe free of charge. We also had a mini bar and you are provided with 1 bottle of water per person per day when your room is cleaned. The water dispensers around the resort are bottled water, completely safe to drink we all used it including the kids. Also the salad is washed with bottled water and ice in drinks is made from bottled.
We stayed at the stella gardens, which we felt was the better of the 2, block 37 just near the pool and far enough away from the entertainment not to disturb the kids when they were in bed. The rooms are clean and the beds very comfortable! We were also within walking distance to stella beach resort, although there was a bus stop at the bottom of the resort too. We used the free shuttle many times. We were near the heated pools, which was right for this time of year but there was also several other pools that can be used. By the pool the sun beds are on sand, which gives you that beach feeling. Again very useful for us with the kids.
The main restaurant at the gardens we did not find that great, the food tasted nice but it does get repetitive, although we were all fine, no problems with the food. We found both the choice and the service at the main restaurant at the beach resort a lot better so my advice would be to eat there as much as possible. We also ate at all the a la carte restaurants, not all of them had 2 highchairs which was a problem at times. The food and service at the a la cartes was lovely, would recommend them all but especially the Chinese and Lebanese. The one fault we did have with the food was there was a problem with supply of ice cream so we didn't get any all week!
Food was served at the beach bar too although we had a thunderstorm on the day we chose to visit the beach so they did not serve the food that day, not the hotels fault, the weather is just bad luck.
We did visit the beach, it was very course and lots of sharp rocks so jelly shoes for children would be my advice, had a walkout to the jetty also which was a lovely view.
Beach towels are provided by the hotel so save your luggage and don't pack them. You get fresh ones daily. The whole resort was very clean, they spend a lot of time maintaining the place.
The animation team really try their best, they have daytime and nighttime entertainment, yes it is a bit lame at times but with so many nationalities it is difficult. They had a mini disco for the kids every nite and also have cartoons on a big screen each evening. The animation team made a real fuss of our kids. It was my birthday whilst we were away and the hotel reception sent me a card and a birthday cake in my room when we got in that evening, I thought this was a lovely thing to do. There was also a tv in the room with some English channels but we did not watch it. There is a large outdoor play area for kids at the gardens resort, and a kids club at both. We did use the play area daily.
Some of the staff do not provide excellent service, but those who do make up for it. We did tip the staff who treated us well. There are people at the resort of other nationalities who do not understand the concept of queuing and will butt in, but again no reflection on the hotel.
There is a shopping centre in the beach resort where you can buy all sorts, make sure you haggle as we did and got everything for what we wanted. If you go to walk away they will chase you and agree the price you said. You can also buy baby wipes and pampers nappies from the pharmacy but unsure of the price.
Anything you need I would recommend using the rep, he can get everything at a cheaper price than you can get elsewhere, 2 people from our party went on a diving trip and it was half the cost we had found online beforehand. Also, ask for a packed lunch if doing any trips the hotel will provide. We paid for late checkout in one of our rooms, it was worth it for us with having the toddlers. You can also buy wifi from the hotel which can be used at both , in the lobby areas, for a reasonable price.
When we flew home, there was a Burger King in the airport which accepted euro, travel cards, English money and paid you back in the currency you paid. Watch what they charge as they tried to over charge us, we used it as there was a child's play area in Burger King restaurant which was very useful for us.
There is not much to do outside the resort, it is very isolated however the complex is that big that you do not need to leave. It does have everything that you would need. Did not try the spa but found the prices a little expensive compared to other places I have stayed. You do get hassled by people selling trips etc but if you just tell them no thank you they get the message.
Overall it had everything we wanted for an enjoyable family holiday, the food and service of some staff members brings the resort down to a 4 star in my opinion but I would return.

All I can say is what a lovely place friendly not overly packed out just nice 4 restaurants the lebanese was ok but not to be repeated chinese was visited 3 times in the indian restaurant I had the best tandoori chicken I have ever tasted italian was lovely
Rooms are excellent we were in the stella gardens part which is quieter than beach also our room was far away enough not to hear animation if you fancy an early night
Bar is local beer and spirits which we found ample waiting on staff get to know your drinks and bring them to you without even asking
An all round excellent holiday experience the only little niggle was booking the restaurants which you have to que up for but no rush we were in holiday

Book you wont be disappointed

I have just returned from a 3 night break at the Stella Makadi Gardens all inclusive. The whole resort is beautifully planned with a main heated pool, and then many other smaller pools and areas for you to relax. Lobby and reception are stunning and the staff very helpful. Internet 25le (£2) for 30 mins and the code lasts for 3 days so just fine for checking emails over that period.

Main restaurant open and airy, plenty of selection and well presented. They also have 4 small restaurants open in the evening for two sittings based on a first come first served booking system. The food at the Indian and Chinese restaurants was superb. Beef curry and sweet and sour chicken, respectively. We even had a little chat with the Chinese chef that they have here.

The rooms are like new, lovely size with very comfy beds and modern well appointed bathrooms with separate bath and shower. Cleanliness and over impression, excellent. All of the staff were extremely helpful, smiling, courteous and happy. Well done, we had a very enjoyable experience and will be back!

Room Tip: Started in a block overlooking the slide pool but it was too noisy and moved to 3472 which had a lov...

Returned this weekend and missing the 26 degrees and cloudless skies already. Only the Garden part of the Hotel was open but this didn't affect the holiday as the beach and all a la carte restaurants were available. Very friendly and immaculately clean Hotel, food in a la carte restaurants was excellent and we ate there on all but one night. Yes, you have to queue a little to book but well worth it. Buffet Restaurant quite acceptable and as others have said, bit of a queue at breakfast for eggs but you have lots of time on holiday so why get stressed! We were in Room 3374 and it was great with a huge balcony which we made use of some afternoons, Pools were all excellent and quite a nice temperature. Bars around pools were great and we enjoyed all the drinks and especially the Cappuccino Coffees with Brandy!

The Beach is very good and excellent dining area with freshly cooked food. Plenty of sunbeds and we loved the hammocks. Nice walks along the beach too.

It is a little isolated but we liked that its a huge complex and there is enough shops around for essentials. Didn't use the entertainment much but what was saw was fine. Animation team were very good and most friendly.

i can find nothing bad to say at all wouldn't hesitate in saying we would return but there are so many places to visit and experience. As in the title ...would thoroughly recommend. Do try the Lebanese Restaurant its fantastic!!! Its about 30 minutes from the airport and do try and get your visas from the Banks in the airport there are lots cheaper than the people herding you towards the centre with Travel Agents signs!!!
,

Room Tip: second Floor with large Balcony are great

MY fiancée and I went here for two weeks all inclusive in Jan/Feb 2014, the place was amazing. Really nice hotel, excellent service all round, food was very good and really good choice, whether in the main restaurant or the pool bar for the afternoons (also as far as I knew no one got ill), a la carte restaurants were included in the all inclusive option. Pools were good, though a little chilly but that's the time of year (also to note was it was only the beach resort open, the gardens was closed, though the pools were still available), made for a refreshing swim after a day in the sun. Bar was good, nice and relaxed and good service. Entertainment team were good, plenty of variety throughout the day and different shows each evening. Would definitely return.

We stayed here in March and were very impressed. Overall it was great value, the food in the main restaurants wasn't too great but in the speciality restaurants it was great- the Chinese and Indian restaurants were both really, really good. All inclusive we were never hungry and had great days at the pool bar with snacks. It's not really near anything but you don't need to leave the resort. We went to el gouna with a car organised by the hotel, and diving for the day. They were very helpful. Highly recommended. Oh and the nightclub was tiny but fun!
