“Great hotel!! great holiday!!”
Reviewed 6 February 2011

Never written a review before but read many!! Hotel was better than we expected and great value for money.
Every where was really clean, plenty of choice of food in the main restaurant, the Italian restaurant was also very good and worth a visit as it was a nice atmosphere and a change from the buffet. You could also eat at the beach bar if you didn't want to go in for lunch.
The staff were all lovely, very helpful and attentive. around the pool bar we didn't even need to order after a couple of days, as the barman knew what we liked to drink, great service!! We will definately return to Stella Makadi, very relaxing holiday.

My wife and I stayed at the Stella Makadi 25.01.11 to 02.02.11 and had a great time. Note that this period covered the first few days of the unrest in Cairo. While we were there there was absolute calm at the resort, and the staff were helpful and friendly at all times. Tourism is their livelihood and they make sure you have a good break.
The hotel was built in 2008, so is very new, thoughtfully designed and beautifully lanscaped. The complex is pretty large, including three a la carte restaurants in addition and about 6-10 small shops, so it is not essential to leave the site, but we did, one day, for an island trip. One of the pools is heated, the sea was also warm, with many colourful fish on the reef near the beach. There were plenty of activities, for those that want them. We ate in the main restaurant all the time, the variety was very good and we focussed on the salads, as it would be easy to over-eat on all inclusive.
The day of our return was meant to be a general strike, but there was no sign of it either on the resort or at the airport. Obviously, tours to Cairo and Luxor had been stopped, though. We went for an enjoyable relaxing, sunny break from the English winter, and found what we wanted.

we stayed at the Stella Makadi from 18/1/11 - 25/1/11 and enjoyed our stay. Our room was comfortable and cleaned to a good standard every day. It was my birthday during our holiday and our room supervisor saw my birthday cards and as a surprise arranged for a card and lovely (and huge) cake to be sent to our room. We did not go on any trips as we wanted to go diving. We registered with Piano Divers based at the hotel. As experienced divers we booked 4 dives with them, all of which were enjoyable, safe, easy dives and all within 20 mins by boat. The dive boat was not purpose built and sometimes a bit of a squash with 10 divers, but we encountered no problems. All the dive staff were helpful and we will be diving with them on our return to the hotel in April. The restaurant was busy at peak times and you did have to look around for a table. Ocassionally you had to wait for clean plates and cups and saucers but never for more than a few minutes. The beach snack bar had limited choice at lunchtime but was good to use for drinks and icecreams. One swimming pool was heated and this was lovely to use with its swim up bar. The other pools were cold and the sea was warmer! We went snorkelling from the jetty and saw a variety of fish and coral and saw a seasnake, large puffa fish and blue spotted ray whilst walking along the jetty! There is no free wi-fi in reception as a code has to be paid for. We are returning for a week again in April and are looking forward to our holiday.

We're just back from 2 weeks in Stella Makadi, I knew this resort would be big and I was certainly right. However the rooms were very comfortable and our room boy kept it very spotless. The gardens and reception area were also spotless but the main bar always had a smell of sour milk or similar, this hit you the minute you walked in, they often lit joss sticks to mask the smell! Most of the staff were pleasant and helpful, and if you treated them with respect etc, then they were the same back to you. As expected, the majority of the Russian guests were just pigs, arrogant, rude, obnoxious and you'd think they had never seen food or alcohol in their lives, so as you can imagine, the restaurants and bars were just like cattle markets, I pitied the staff as they never got a please or thank you from them, or many of the Germans either. We did eat at the a la carte restaurants,Italian, Seafood and Indian, well worth the money, food was lovely, presentation great and the wine etc was actually drinkable, only a pity that we had to pay extra to enjoy a nice meal, most other AI holidays we have been on include a la carte restaurants at least once or twice in your stay, free of charge. There is also a nice Italian buffet, which no-one actually told us about, well worth £5. My husband went diving and had a great time,I just lay on the beach and was constantly pestered by Spa staff and guys wanting you to go on camels rides, snorkeling trips etc. All in all, we had a great time but I think that was down to the people we met, especially the couple from Chetserfield and anothe couple from Sheffield-you know who I mean!

We certainly wouldn't be in a rush to go back to Stella Makadi, I think we may need to look at El Gouna as we have been told that it is mainly just Brits and Europeans that stay there, and the only Russians that stay there are the very rich, so they should know how to behave

Got back on 18h January.

Positives: Rooms are great. Food - lots of it and good quality. Great choice of food and all the staff wear gloves when handling food so no worries really about dicky tummies! Staff are really great once you are great with them. Everywhere is very clean and the snorkelling is brilliant on a calm day. Weather was perfect for us in January. Drinks were absolutely fine. No negative points about the hotel and staff whatsoever!!

Negatives: Entertainment is a tad boring. The sax player plays the same thing every night. If you want to socialise with a lot of other brits, this is the wrong place for you. You will be hugely outnumbered by russians by probably 50 to 1 and I agree with a previous reviewer, they are rude and smile rarely. If you don't smoke, like we don't, you'll be surrounded by smokers wherever you go.

All in all a fab holiday and we will most definitely think about going back in January next year.

Rooms were spacious and spotless, staff were very friendly and polite. We had a problem with the safe and the TV both were not working. Rang reception both were fixed within 20 minutes. Food was very good lots of variety. We stayed four nights. On our last night we paid approximately £12.50 per head to dine at the on site Italian restaurant (there are 3 to choose from) for a 4 course meal. At the restaurant you can order the local drinks including wine as part of your all inclusive package, or you can purchase wine from the wine menu. The food and the service were excellent. The hotel was fully booked when we stayed yet there was no problem getting sun beds at the various pools or beach.
We had a great chill out little break.
