“All round great hotel”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 29 August 2011

My Husband & 2 kids (11 & 12) loved this hotel. It was fantastic value for money. Generally the place was very clean. The al a carte's were fab. The pools were plenty, and the areas around them were very spacious.
I did sometimes feel the pools could be a bit grubby and often turned a blind eye to things that I felt on the pool floor (what I couldnt see wouldnt hurt me!!)
We only experienced the main buffet twice, it is a truly horrendously busy place. That said my family and myself waltzed in their late one night feeling a bit hungry on our way up to our room. The place was empty but the waiters were still their, we had a great laugh with them, they were so genuinely freindly.
Your best bet as far as the buffet restraunts are concerned is definately the Round The World, it is much more relaxed, and less stressfull.
If your older children get bored, they can get involved with the animation teams activities. Its a great way for them to join in and meet other young people that they can have fun with. The animation team were all very good, some however, were excellent exceptionally kind, and freindly, and brilliant with the kids. if I could make one suggestion to the person in charge of the animation team it would be to have pehaps 2 or 3 designated team members for the older kids, your 10 -16s that dont, or cant go into the kids club. Concentrating on more age appropriate activities that could in turn encourage more youngsters to join in.
Overall the bar staff etc, were all very freindly, you did get the odd one who was a bit miserable on occassions, but hey ho, you cant always expect people to be bubbling over with happiness and enthusiasm 24/7, we all have our off days.
In general this was a very good hotel, despite the odd wee petty niggle.
It had just the right mix of fun and freindly. Just what you need on a family holiday.
An earlier reviewer described it as Butlins in the sun. was that an insult? Butlins in the sun would be awsome!!!
Anyway go. Stay open minded, and you will love it.

All in all a really good holiday, we arrived late at night and it took around ten minutes to check into the hotel.
My initial thoughts were that the room was disappointing. We have two children aged 7 and 3 and were hoping for a bigger room but the beds were all lined up like a dormitory. Our bed was huge and comfortable, the kids were ' put up' beds. Worth a room upgrade in hindsight. However we just got on with it, the rooms and bathrooms are exceptionally clean, they are cleaned every morning. There are no Tea/coffee facilities in the room so if you like a hot drink, pack a kettle. The swimming pools are huge and lovely, we stuck to the pool by the water slides as it was shallower. We had no problem getting sunbeds each morning and time we got dressed etc it was 9am. The water slides were great fun, my son was like a hamster on a wheel most of the holiday, they open from 10am-12am then 3pm to 5pm. The pools got a bit grubby by the end of the day but the staff worked tirelessly around the hotel premises to ensure everything was clean.
Food, one word, fantastic! there is something for everyone. As most reviews say, if you like a bit of peace when you eat, stay away from the main food hall near reception, it is chaos and full of rude Russians. We ate at Around the world for breakfast, enough choice for us.
The A La Carte restaurants are amazing! The Bedouin was our favourite followed by the Italian, Mexican, Asian, Steakhouse and Mediterranean. Impeccable service, clean and lovely food!
Our daughter who is 3 got so much attention from all the male members of staff, they adore little girls, it is all harmless but is a bit alarming when you come from our country where men who make a fuss of children are viewed suspiciously, they literally would hug, kiss and walk off with her!
The beach is very nice, worth going to Fort Arabesque though , the hotel to the left, the snorkelling is much better there, you only have to go waist height to see amazing fish.
The shops around the hotel are very good but be prepared to HAGGLE or you will pay a silly price.
Don't worry about taking any Egyptian money, there is a cash machine in reception that offers a far superior rate than you will get anywhere else and it does not charge commission.
we went on a couple of trips,The submarine which was fantastic and well worth the money. The shop and rock was a bit of a let down, with all the stops and pick ups it took us an hour to get to Hurghada and it really is running the gauntlet with all the Egyptian shopkeepers, tip: dont be tempted to go into the smaller shops the bigger stores are far cheaper. The Hard rock Cafe was very good and we all enjoyed it.
We all had upset tummies but I don't believe it was the food and we didnt drink much alcohol. I think it was the intense heat and then going into air conditioned rooms. We went to the pharmacy next to the dive centre but didnt realise you had to haggle there too so paid about £17 for medication!
The spa is lovely we had two massages, again Haggle! I think you get the theme here.
We didn't tend to stay up late but what we did see of the entertainment was very German and dated!
Be very careful with the Henna tattoos, my daughter had an allergic reaction to hers, it is still red and sore two weeks since we left, best avoided.
Our kids weren't interested in the kids club and to be fair it wasn't particularly exciting for them, there wasn't much encouragement from the girls to come and do activities, in fact we only saw them at the beginning and the end, but it was a big hotel.
We would go back again, The Egyptian people are lovely. The hotel is more of a 3 to 4 star but Im not complaining we all loved it!

Room Tip: worth an upgrade if you like the kids in a separate room

I have never written a review but feel I must warn people. I travelled with my husband and two children, 5 and 8. We have had a few AI holidays with TC and been happy, this resort was beyond belief. If you want a 'home from home' experience then this is for you, it is like Butlins/Haven. Food awful in main buffet and the 'around the world' was slightly better as less crowded. All kids drinks came in flimsy plastic cups, usually warm. Queued for 40 mins for two soggy pizzas at lunch time. On day 4 we went for lunch and were turned away as they were 'full'! Ate in 3 of the a la cartes, Egyptian one by far the best but still pretty bad. Pools were dirty, room ok - spacious but tired. Staff very friendly as long as you tipped all the time, otherwise you are ignored.
On day four we begged for a transfer and ended up in Fort Arabesque next door. Rest of our holiday was amazing and we hope that the memory of the Sunrise will fade in time!
I cannot understand how this has been rated a 5 *??

We flew with Easy jet and even having to sit for two hours on the tarmac at Gatwick (Air Traffic System Failure) I have got to say we had a great flight, unlike the Thomas Cook one to sharm last year. Lots of legroom, attentive staff, very good.
Paid the $15 dollars on entrance to airport, thank you TRIP ADVISOR!,
Hotel gave us a room miles from the pools and the balcony faced a huge brick wall, staff were amazing and changed the room the next day.Infact they gave us a choice of two!!
I loved the idea of the different themed restaurants, rather than a buffet for two weeks. The food is good but if you are coming here for some gastro delights, I suggest you look elsewhere. The cocktails in the bar at reception were fabulous and included in the all inclusive. The entertainment was very good too, we won the Bingo in the Pergola Bar twice!! Won a photo shoot and a framed picture of my 9 year old's name by this wonderful chap who does it all in 4 minutes!!
We never had a problem getting a sunbed, Hussain was very helpful!! Look out for him at the towel hut in the family pool. We didnt find the pool dirty but did get annoyed with people not putting their plastic cups in the bin, Hurghada is really windy, so invariably cups were blown into the pool. We visited Hurghada, El Gouna and the local Mall, all curtesy of Hameda Tourist Uk (found on forum) much cheaper than the hotel. We loved El Gouna, just dont make the mistake we made , visit in the day as opposed to the evening, its really beautiful, found a wonderful restaurant called La Scala by the marina, hubbie had the best fillet steak (He says) in his whole life and he's a damn good cook!!
Would we go back? Oh yes!! My 9 yr old met some lovely friends, "HI" to Emily, Ellis and Taylor. One final comment: upset stomachs: yes unfortunately we didi get it, as we always seem to do when visiting Egypt, but we were prepared with ANTINAL bought on the first day from the pharmacy and after just day 3 we all had an upset stomach that only lasted a couple of days, thanks to the tablets. Best to be prepared!!

My husband, 2 teenage sons (15 and 18) and me stayed at SRM from 29 July-12 August. Our first time to Hurghada but have been to Sharm twice before.

Check in was quick, we had booked 2 rooms but reception manager came and offered us an upgrade to a large family room which consisted of a twin bedroom and large double room. It was like a 2 bed apartment, which was fine for us and in a central location. The rooms/bathroom were a bit tired and would benefit from a refurb, but they were clean.

The complex is huge, and was full when we were there.

The huge advantage to this hotel is the a la carte restaurants, by waiting in the Victoria Pub at 9.30am reservations can be made for the following evening. The Asian is excellent, as is the Mexican. The Italian was fab on the first visit but on our second visit the service was awful and the food cold, but they were happy to take the food away and bring it back fresh and warm. We only ate in the buffet, Round the World twice in the evenings. We went into the main buffet one evening, walked around and straight back out again, too busy and unorganised.

The other advantage to this hotel is being able to get a sunbed at almost any time of the day. Arriving at the pool at 10am and being able to get 4 beds and shade was brilliant, no need for a 6am rise to pick your spot at the pool.

The staff were all very friendly, only one exception, one bar man was grumpy but otherwise everyone was lovely. It was the start of Ramadan when we were there and the staff didn’t eat or drink from 4.30am-6.30pm, which must have been torture for them. It was sooo warm, they were serving drinks all day and yet still managed to smile.

A lot of people had been several times before and many said they would book again. Personally, we wouldn’t rush back. We had a good holiday, really enjoyed it but there was nothing that make us rush back over and over again. If we were very critical, we would say that the standard of hotels in Sharm is higher. SRM is very nice but not as clean as we have had experienced in Sharm.

My husband was also quite unwell for a few days, which put us off a little. We are unsure what could have caused this, we were all eating the same things etc and were very careful about using hand gel etc, so it was unexplained.

To summarise, this is a nice hotel, not 5*. Would we return? Probably not, but we did enjoy our holiday.

Do not use the beauty parlour I went for a pedicure the hygene in the place leaves a lot to be desired, I dont think the girl who gave me the pedicure was even qualified she could not even speak english and when she hurt me which was a few times she just said no problem. It lasted about 20 minutes and was a waste of money, the cost was 35 american dollars, she put nail polish on my toes and a child could have put it on better.

This was our 6th visit to Egypt but our 1st to Hurghada, on arrival all seemed fine, however after around 5 days my Wife became really ill, being sick and having the runs, after a day we went to get some antibiotics to make her feel human again. I myself felt ill with the runs as did my Son, we had to take imodium on a daily basis to spend any kind of time away from the loo.
We have not had this kind of illness anywhere we have been to before.

On further inspection we noticed the family pool was filthy, scum and brown filth all the way round the edge, black instead of white grout and the bottom was full of debris.
The area around the pool was just as bad, spilt dried up drinks, congealed food and lord know what all around, not once did we see anyone cleaning the pool or the floor area, after 10 days we reported our concerns to the rep. On the very last day we saw someone in the pool starting to clean the tiles and grout, but not the floor area.

One day my Son witnessed the cleaner mop the floor in the cooking area, he then proceeded onto the grill and pizza oven with the same mop YUCK.
We did not touch a thing after that from the family pool eating area.

The rooms and the rest of the restaurants are fine, if the family pool area was smartened up it could really be a lovely hotel, it really put us off the place, if this is what can be seen then what could be happening behind closed doors?

We will not be returning back to this hotel, instead we will probably go back to the Sunrise island view in Sharm, this was like an operating theatre compared to the Royal Makadi bay hotel.

We expect places we pay to stay in to be clean, not much to ask when going to a so called 5 star hotel!

Also, the staff must have had their pleasent side of their personalities removed, I know it's Ramadan but it has been for the last 3 years we have been to Egypt, we have never seen staff so miserable and some of them are ignorant.
