We have just arrived back from our 4th visit to the sunrise royal makadi bay resort and it is evan better than it was before, there are now 7 al a carte resturants. steak house, egyptian mexican and a fish in additian to the asian, italian and mediteranian, which is perticulaly good, the manager Said and assistant Mostafa performing a first class service the Manager of the Italian Sayed is also very obliging nothing is too much trouble this applies to all the staff.
all the bars provided great sevice even when very busy especially the pergoda captain mohamad and the other two mohamads who worked for him.
The entire site was exreamly well cared for,the rooms were well looked after with the cleaning staff,
The pool staff kept the pools in good condition.
I am afraid we were too old to join in the games put on by the anmimation team but we enjoyed watching them Partick was a True professional.
We are looking forward to the next trip

Just got back after two weeks stayed 8th november until 22nd November This was our second visit after staying in June this year. We never usually return to a Hotel but due to the good value we did return.
On arrival staff recgonised us straight away and this adds to the good experience of your stay.
Bad points out of the way first the hoel is looking very tired especially the furniture and decour. The furniture around the poll bar/Pargola bar is falling apart and needs replacing.
Cold weahter has caught the hotel out with limited space and no atomsphere in the lobby bar and reception this leaves you shivering outside by the pergola bar. Even the staff were cold.
The stake House resturant was also outside and if you did not get to sit by a heater it was too cold to enjoy your meal.
They staff informed us that the area had been measured up and the area will have panels fitted to the frame in the next couple of weeks to enclose thea area , pherhaps they should consider this for the Pergola bar area.
They have also begun painting the parasols around the pool area .
Good points the staff and this is what makes this hotel.
Big big thank you to Mohammad Ali guest services, my wife has a severe nut allergy. He took the time to hand write a note to give at each resturant but also helped us arrange our bookings for the Al a carte resturants and then e mailed them to explain. This really helped us relax and took a lot of stress and worry out of stay.
Also goes wtihout saying all the staff at the pergola bar but a big thank you to Ahmed and Islam always smiling and the service was great.
Patrick on the entertainment team was a great guy and even when the place was empty in the evening due to the cold attempted to keep everyone happy and entertained.
Mohamad theThomas Cook rep was also a great help and nothing was bother to him.
Sorry to go on but yes I agree the hotel has faults and looks tired but the staff will do anything to help, the resturants are very good and all in all it gives excellant value for money.
Thank you to all the chefs but Ahmed in the Mexican who is so proud of his resturant and came out each visit to check out everything and it was excellent.

We stayed at sunrise makadi bay between the 11th and 18th of November have have to say how fantastic the service was from start to finish.

Considering the large number of people booking in at the same time from the uk the service was efficient and hassle free.

We booked tables for every night at the various themed dining rooms which was well worth the effort. Great choice and service - much better than buffet service - treat the staff with respect and you get so much back.

The pizza chef by the main pool was amazing - the best pizza I have ever had. I asked for something he didn't have on the pizza - he told me to come back the next lunchtime and he would have it under the counter for me. He immediately recognised me in the queue and made be a larger and even crisper pizza of my choice. This was a fantastic example of the service across the resort.

The Mahaya trip pushed by Thomas cook is over priced but still enjoyed the day, however I booked a diving and snorkelling trip with the drive centre for far less.

We did the private car tour to luxor - great service, individual guide working to our timetable topped of by a private boat on the Nile before the 3 hour journey back to the hotel. Would have been at least 4 or 5 hours by coach.

There are a few issues with maintaince, nothing you wouldn't expect in such a large resort but the service is the key difference here - better service than a british 4 star.

Internet cafe is slow and expensive, get a red flag from the towel centre to reduce sales people approaching you but it won't stop it completely.

Overall fantastic and would go back!

Pros:

* Fantastic service. The staff really does it best to make you feel welcome and satisfied. Impressive. I've been to several 5 star hotels in the Red Sea area and the service here is on a very high level.

* Several dining options. In addition to the buffet restaurants, there are 7 or 8 a la carte restaurants and pizza, burgers and pasta. This is great if you want to avoid the hassle of eating at the buffet restaurant together with hundreds of hungry Russians.

* The entertainment is fantastic. During our one week stay we experienced at least 3 stunning dance shows. We're talking professional dancers here. Also, a very talented singer who sang covers of old classics as well as some karaoke.

* Excellent beaches. Soft soft sand.

* Excellent snorkelling on the neighbouring Fort Arabesque hotel area. You are literally snorkelling just a couple of meters from the beach. Several hundred meters of coral reefs ensures that you'll always have a reef or two for yourself. Lion fish, rays, trigger fish etc etc.

* Perfect for familes and kids. Water slides, playgrounds, junk food etc etc. The family rooms are around 70 sqm!!

* Heated pools. At least 2 pools were heated to 28 Celsius.

* Comfortable beds and pillows.

* Several shops in the hotel area and on the beach. No need to leave your hotel during your stay.

* Superb tennis courts.

Cons:

* Standard rooms are mediocre. The rooms closest to the beach are tiny while the ones closest to the main entrance are almost twice the size. Also there was a constant weird smell from the bath rooms.

* Despite the many different restaurants, there's not much variety to the food. Also, some of the chefs need to improve their cooking skills.

* Gym was a disaster. Most of the equipment was not working. Poor for a hotel of this quality.

* Lack of indoor areas. During the winter season there are not many indoors places to hang out in except for the restaurants and the lobby. The latter by the way totally lacks charm and you don't want to hang here.

* Internet connection costs a fortune.

* Lots of eastern Europeans. I means lots of them. If you prefer to spend your holiday with other nationalities, you may want to look for more pricey accomodations.

* This place is not for couples. Yes, there is a small "adults only" pool area but in all other hotel areas you need to be prepared for hearing and watching children running around and making noise.

Bits & pieces:

* We received excellent service and food from the staff at the Dalila/Around the world and Arabeeya restaurants. Special shout out also goes to Saleh in the VIP pool bar.

* There were a few bad apples though - the wind surfing staff (poor service), the staff in the shop closest to the lobby (disrespectful) and the owner of the hair saloon (fundamentalist opinions)

Summary:

We may definitely come back again if we travel with children. If your expectations are properly set, you may have an excellent time here. Don't expect 5 star quality though - compared to other hotels on the Red Sea, I´d say this is 4 or 4+, but not 5. Come for the beach, entertainment, friendly service and a la carte dining.

Room Tip: The largest standard rooms are closest to the family pools. Avoid the rooms close to the beach since...

Just got back from a weeks holiday and have to say i was relieved it was everything i wanted it to be! Having booked this back in 2010 i had since read reviews and was slightly worried, i shouldn't have been. From the minute we arrived we were looked after by the excellent staff (the exception was one chap who worked on the receptions cocktail bar, never smiled once!!). Our room was well placed and had a see view (we hadn't asked or paid for this). This was spacious enough for what we needed, sleep!! The main restaurant was a little manic but had everything you needed, even myself being a VERY fussy vegetarian managed to find a good choice. The pool side bars had great freshly cooked pizzas which we ended up most lunch-times. We tried to Asian, Italian and Greek al la carte restaurants and were nice....but not the greatest of choice if you have children! We only got involved in the entertainment twice and although good fun, it was a little tiresome listening to this in 4-5 languages. The team were great, my son took a shine to Patrick, he was a real nice chap. The beach activities were plentiful and the coral reefs and fish were gorgeous. I agree with previous reviews in that this is not a 5 star hotel that would expect in the UK, a little rough round the edges but overall very happy and would return. The only disappointment was the 6 hour delay on the way home, no fault of the hotel though

Room Tip: Dine in the Al La Carte restaurants!
