“Maybe not Platignum but lovely holiday.”
Reviewed 18 October 2011

Whilst I agree that this is not a Platignum rating it is still very nice and I had a lovely time here. On arriaval we checked in very quickly and were greeted by very polite and nice reception staff. Our room was huge and very nicely equiped and clean. Out of 14 nights we only experienced one night when the food was poor in what was on offer . We found the waiters extremely friendly and often shared a joke with you. Yes the hotel is very much geared up for Italians and the entertainment is Italian led and I guess if you want night life then Fort Arabesque is not for you. We enjoyed our time here very much, the beach is beautiful along with wonderful sea life to see if you enjoy snorkelling. The grounds were well kept and clean. There was some minor works going on in the grounds but this was general tidying and maintenace to walls . You would expect this anywhere as it needs to be done. We witnessed no health and safety issues. Our holiday rep was very helpful and efficient. We had a problem with noisy neighbours and this was dealt with very promptly with no need for us to move rooms. I will definitly return next year .

Room Tip: 1101 - 1108 are very large and have a garden with pool just nearby for a nice quiet swim.

Good points.... Wonderful Beach, Good Bar Staff, Rooms very clean although very dated. Food OK always something you can eat(but don't go down late or you are out of luck).

Bad points....Reception staff unhelpful at times, This hotel is very dated, reception area furniture covered in stains, bedrooms are large but seriously need a make over. The hotel is geared towards the Italian guests, they get preferential treatment throughout the hotel. The entertainment is in Italian and after the first few days it becomes very boring.Avoid the main Bar in the evening unless you like Italian Kareoke( absolutely dreadful). Also they were doing building work on the walls in the gardens but left rubble and bricks on the paths without any signs, with low lighting during the evening this was very dangerous, Health and safety issues need to be looked at by the management. Can't believe Thomsons rate this hotel as Platignum! it certainly is not. We have stayed at other Platignum hotels and expected the same standard in this one. But we were very disappointed.

We made the best of the holiday, the weather was great as was the beach but we will not be going back again ever!!

The worst hotel I have stayed at in Egypt. Its the only hotel I have stayed in where the colour of your wrist band denoted whether you were English,German or Italian and not the type of board you were on.There was no hospitality shown to the British people at all.We requested tea and coffee facilities in our room and we told it would be 5 euros a day.Rooms were clean but tired. Pool area not at all clean. We had a barbeque around the pool on the wednesday and spilt food was still there on Saturday.I have complained to Thomson and are awaiting their reply.

My friend and I have recently returned from 2 weeks at Fort Arabesque. Having been to Egypt many times and loving it, this was most certainly the most expensive and yet the worst holiday we have had.
The hotel was tired and shabby looking. Reception staff were disinterested to the point of rudeness. The gardens were overgrown and the pool area dirty. The aftermath of the Wednesday evening BBQ was still there a week later.
The staff on the towel station ignored you completely, prefering to continue to talk on their mobile phone.
As for the restaraunt ! Food was good, but the presentation very poor. Tables were laid on top of other peoples' crumbs and on dirty table cloths. You were lucky to get cutlery and a cup AND saucer. Maybe one or the other. When did arrive after several requests, it was thrown at you..The chefs did not wear gloves to prepare or handle the food.
Unbelievably the cleaners filled their buckets from the swimming pool to clean the outside dining area floor ! One positive note. The staff in the Red Rocks Bar were very nice and the beach was stunning.
I could go on, but I'm sure you get the general idea. Thomsons, this is NOT a platinum hotel.

Room Tip: Get a last minute deal. Ask for ground floor. The lift only worked for 3 days out of 14.

My husband and I have just come back from 2 weeks at the Fort Arabesque, and we had a great time. We went with Thomson, had a good flight, decent leg room, entertainment on board, and on time too. What more could you ask for?
When we arrived at the hotel, we were taken to our room in the West wing across the gardens from the main hotel. We were first shown to a ground floor room, which had no sea view. We went straight to the reception over that side and asked if they had an upper floor room. We were shown a room on the 3rd floor. It was a large room (approx 44ft x 14 ft). It contained 2 kingsize beds and a double bed. It had a T.V, tea making facilities, with the tea/coffee etc supplied too, digital safe and a lovely sea view. The bathroom was large too, with a big shower in it. These rooms were cleaned every day, and were spotless. OK, we didn't have towel statues, but never mind.
The food was lovely. Breakfast was almost the same every day, but there was so much choice, it didn't matter. Lunch was great. Every day we said we were going to have salad, but every day there was something else to tempt us on the hot food. Dinners were great too. I don't know how the chefs could make at least 4 different ways to serve potatoes every day! The waiters were very friendly (especially Saeed in the West wing restaurant, who was always smiling). They found you a table, and served your drinks while you were getting your meal. The dirty plates were taken away almost immediately. There were only a couple of times during the 2 weeks that the food was not as hot as it should be. There were containers on the walls of the restaurants, near the doors, with anti bacterial gel in them, which was a good idea. We suffered no dodgy tummies at all.
The bars were good too. After a couple of days the waiters knew what drinks you had, and would bring them out to you. They served good measures too. The only downside was that if you wanted a cocktail, you had to pay for them.
The beach was good, with coarse sand, and the sunshades were set well apart from each other. The sea was lovely and warm and the marine life round the corals was unbelievable, even to a non-snorkeller like myself. Some of the corals on the right hand side of the beach were only about 5 feet out from the beach, and were teeming with fish, which swam round you if you stood still. The beach bar was good, you just fetched your drinks from the fridge as you needed them. There were also icecreams there too.
The entertainment was dismal in the Arena. As others have said, it is geared for Italians, with nothing English at all, but even the Italians must have felt let down with it.. Sometimes when the animation team did their shows, it was embarassing to watch, and we had to leave. The singer in the sunset bar was ok, creating quite a relaxed atmosphere, even though his singing left a little to be desired.
There were a lot of SAGA people around the west wing, who tended to be very cliquey. Not even a Good Morning from most of them.
We did the day trip to Luxor, which was good, just VERY hot and quite tiring, starting off at 5am and returning at around 9.30pm.
We will definately go back, but maybe when it is a bit cooler, as it was around 35-37 degrees every day, and it was almost impossible to lie out in it on the beach, unless you were under your shade.
Compared to the hotels farther on round the bay, I think Fort Arabesque is definately the best.

A group of four of us aged from 25 to 30 stayed here for a week after cruising the Nile.

When we arrived, first impressions were ok, it looked clean and the staff were friendly. The rooms were also spacious but could do with a lick of paint here and there. The corridors and shops were a bit dark and dingy.

Unfortunately the only other English speaking people there were those on a Saga holiday. We felt completely out of place and night time entertainment was non-existent. The place seemed to close down at 10pm.

Most of the other guests were Italian, as is the hotel manager apparently, so most events and excursions are geared towards them, which is fair enough. We went to the entertainment arena a couple of nights as there were no late night bars or clubs on the campus, but we were the only 4 people in there (apart from the 2 barmen).

The one evening we persuaded the beach bar to play some music, one of the elderly guests complained so they turned it off.

Very relaxing, nothing to do in the evenings, but friendly staff, good food and a nice pool.

good points first.having been to egypt 10 times the food was above average, the bar was good the topping up of soft drinks in your fridge was welcome.the hotel is very tired and lacks the platinum feel, as we had in taba in march in a thomson hotel.do not accept any room from3325=3310 as the view of the rubbish dump will deflate you.our concerns were pointed out to the rep who then brought the manager to listen to us.i myself took him to see the filthy sunbeds and the surrounding area which needed a good cleaning.if you were italian you would come back here because they have preferential treatment to the english.in a nutshell do not book this hotel if you are expecting above average accommodation. i would not be surprised if thomson pulled out of this hotel due too the amount of people complaining while we were there.

Room Tip: try for a ground floor
