“Excellent Stay”
Reviewed 18 January 2013

We found this hotel complex to be one of the most friendly we have stayed in. From the minute we got off the cramped Thomson plane and obtained our visa directly from one of the banks at the correct US$15 cost, we were greeted outside by their excellent rep, Mohamed, who was cheerful, helpful and informative throughout our stay (note: return flight had much better legroom).
The weather was a reasonable 24deg in the daytme mostly with a cool breeze but it got quite cold in the evening once the sun had gone down.
The hotel staff are a credit and offer good service. Thanks particularly to Mena who remembered our drinks and always greeted us with smile. Beer is by the can Sakara or Stellar, wine acceptable, local spirits served in ample measures, branded soft drinks but fruit juice and cocktails were extra.
Food was varied, tasty soups, wonderful bread choice and salads, always something cooked fresh and choice of cakes/sweets. Fish dishes were generally good but a criticism would be that the quality of meat dishes left a litte to be desired and fruit was limited. We used the main restaurant as this was livelier than the 'Saga' block one, both offer the same food. The snack food in the beach bar was limited and not very appetising.
Our room was large on the ground floor in the main building. Furniture well used but no real complaints, kept very clean, towels & linen changed daily by Mahmood. Nice bathroom and walk-in shower always with hot water. Minibar restocked daily with water and soft drinks.
The gardens are picturesque, blooms everywhere and tended by many gardeners. The pools are clean with 3 heated when we were there. Sunbeds were comfortable and ample at this time of year, even though some earlybirds still find the need to reserve them for later use! The beach is sandy and the lay out is probably the best in the bay. A pleasant long promenade to the right takes you past adjoining hotels around the bay with a cut through to the HSBC bank and other shops.
We found the Italian entertainment team to be friendly even though few people joined in or came to the shows, they try very hard to please all nationalities. We had many chats with their presenter, Miguel, who goes out of his way to make everyone smile and enjoy their holiday. He is an amiable and confident young man who deserves praise for the effort he puts in. Roberto (sax player/singer in the lounge) is an brilliant entertainer.
Probably leaving the best until last, the snorkelling is amazing and coral reefs can be found at waist height by just wading into the sea. The colours of the fish and variety equally match anything we have seen in many places around the world. Such a shame that so much coral adjacent to the beach appears to have been destroyed however efforts seem to be made now to ask guests to treat the environment with respect.
All in all an excellent stay, we hope to return...........

On recommendation of a person who holidays at the Arabesque I booked 4 weeks there over xmas and new year 2012 to jan 2013 for myself and my wife. Arriving when it was dark so not a lot to see , but arriving at our room was a real letdown big chunks of concrete out of the walls dirty bed covers , and dust everywhere . My wife was bitten on the face in the night and her face swelled up shutting her eye , reported this and was told see the dr its only 60-70 euros well sorry but no way so got some cream and it was ok after 4days . Then the food it was never hot always lukewarm and then the stomach upsets started went to the pharmacy took the tablets and starved for 24 hrs , had a meal the next day and back comes stomach upset which lasted 3 weeks on and off and since being home have had to attend the drs .The entertainment if you can call it that was awful the same singer in west wing for a month with the same old songs not for us. the beach is beautiful and the gardens are as well but the poor hotel needs some TLC as i really dont know how this can be classed as 4 star as ive stayed in 4 star all over the world and there has been none like the Arabesque so it should be a 3 star. The staff are all very nice but got fed up with keep giving tips to everyone as i believe in tips for getting good service which a lot of the staff did give us but they didnt reap the benefit of the tips as they are all shared out .We booked this hotel through Saga as we are oap but if you like to lie on sunbed all day then this is for you but we are not into holidays like this , so couldnt recommend the Arabesque for any active oap .

stayed 1st january for a week this is our second time at the fort this time i didnt have pharoahs revenge so had a much better time, staff where lovely nothing was to much trouble even the animation team stopped and chatted and we are pensioners.the changes since last time were the addition of the villas which looked lovely and now it has a lovely well lit road leading to the entrance also no more help yourself to drinks out of the fridge at the beach bar which you could do when we were there 3 years ago.we asked for a room on the 3rd floor with a sea view and without a big tree blocking the view and making the balcony in the shade and we had the room next door to last year, and all the trees had been trimmed back so we were happy.the rooms are a little tired some times the fridges were restocked others not we only had one towel art and the drains smelt a little in the bathroom we stayed in room 330.the air conditioning didnt work we ended up sleeping with the patio doors open.didnt complain the holiday soon goes and we were out of the room most of the time, the cleaner was waiting on our last day when we went for breakfast asking what time we were leaving he was back waiting outside our room when we left obviously waiting for a tip nice chap though the weather was overall about 26 degrees on the thermometer on the beach bar and every day was sunny had a great time the overall rating would of been a 5 if the few niggles about the room were not there but we are already saving to return to this lovely hotel.

Room Tip: sea views are spectacular from the third floor

We went as a couple for the sun, beach and reef and we were not disappointing. The hotel and staff were excellent. We had a ground floor room in the older wing facing the sea, you could just walk out the sliding door and you were steps away from the beach. The food was good and we had a mixed selection over our week stay. The beach was clean and we had no problems finding sun loungers at any time of day. The pictures on here do not do the beech and reef justice. It is awesome from beginners to divers, there is something for everyone. We picked this hotel because I am a diver and my wife is a non-diver but both have an interest in the ocean and its life. We used the Idive dive centre onsite who were very accommodating. I did two dives and they had many snorkeling/boat trips to offer also. We will be going back.

Room Tip: I would recommend a ground floor room as you can just walk out of your room to the gardens, pool and...

Travelled to this hotel on 18/12/12 for xmas and new year, third time here and again not dissapointed. The check in is pretty fast and painless takes about five minutes.the rooms are looking a bit tired now but i do believe they are being refurbed wardrobe space is a little on the small side and there is not a lot of draw space, the hotel was very obliging i emailed them and got the same rooms we had in 2010.The gardens are good and very well kept very colourful, the pool areas and pool itself do need a lick ok paint pool bar good and well stocked. The staff here are first class nothing is to much trouble for them. The bar staff are excellant you did not have to wait long for drink. The only let down to this hotel is the entertainment team they are Italian and seem to cater only for the Italian guests xmas eve and new years eve there was a free prize draw in the arena but it seemed that only the Italian people were given the free tickets. The chinese circus was the best show of the fortnight worth seeing.Would i go back again YES .but i will fly with thomson next time in the hope they have more leg room than thomas cook if you are five feet tall or under fly with thomas cook otherwise choose another airline.

Room Tip: Rooms on the second floor either side of reception are good and quite.

I have just returned from Fort Arabesque for the third time with my two young daughters. If you are searching for a peaceful holiday, this is perfect.
The location is perfect, set on a slight incline looking over the manicured gardens down to the best part of the beach in Makadi Bay. The coral and fish are superb. Ample supply of sunbeds on beach and by the pools. No need to reserve with towels, but there will always be people that feel the need to do so.
The west wing is our preferred area, my daughters loved playing in the heated pool (reaching 34 degrees some days!). The restaurant is so much better than the main one. Staff are super friendly. Plates are quickly cleared away and drinks replenished quickly.
My only gripe is the terrible entertainment team. It really lets down the hotel. It is Italian run. We were totally ignored When tHey realised we were English. On Xmas day, they walked straight past my two children, aged 8 and 10 and heard for the Italian families who didn't even have children. Very rude. Evening entertainment is very poor. Kids disco is on late at 9pm but they enjoyed it. After that we headed back to west wing bar to listen the old boy singing. He murders the songs but you have to laugh! We enjoyed sitting in the bar playing cards. After all, our holiday was about family time so it suited us.
Food is good. Always find suitable choice from fresh pasta, pizza, salads, plenty of fish and meat dishes.
My and my husband both had a fab massage in the luxurious spa. Very recommended.
We will definitely be going back. Perfect Xmas break in the sun.

Room Tip: I would recommend a superior room in west wing but thy are subject to availability. Check on arrival...

We went for the first time over xmas & new year. weather was excellent & the hotel up to its usual high standard. We still consider this is the best beach we have seen in egypt as the beds are not too close & the snorkeling is good for people that cannot swim too well.
The entertainment is only average but we noticed that there were more professional acts than in the past( which are fare better than the italian entertainment team)
We find the food fine & it was especially good over xmas & new year. The hotel met our request for a room on the 1st floor due to my wifes recent op.The room was a little tired ,But they are slowly refurbishing. main grevance was the small wardrobe.

WE did notice that far more people suffered from stomach problems than on past visits despite them constantly checking the food temp .I would start swabbing sunbeds & furniture to trace the source of the infection.
Would we return for a 5th time ? we would have to be convinced that the management had traced & addressed the stomach problem issue.

Room Tip: dont pick a room near the lifts if you are a light sleeper. the italians dont know quite at 01.00hou...
