“Just what we wanted.”
Reviewed 14 March 2010

Having spent a superb week on the Nile doing all the temples ect ,we booked this hotel to chill out in for the second week of our holiday. We were able to do just that as this hotel is probably best suited to the slightly older age group, ( although there were some children and younger people there ), the average age would have been 50+.
A slightly older hotel with plenty of character and wonderful well established gardens, with it's own beach front and plenty of sun beds + beach bar, good sized pool with bar.
Rooms were spacious, clean and with v/good service. Food in the several restaurants was plentiful with an excellent choice for all meals ( especially the sweets ! ) being all incusive we took full advantage of this.
Staff were friendly and helpful at all times, there is a theatre on site with nightly entertainment, sailboarding, canoeing are free with instuction if needed and snorkeling in the sea close to shore is fantastic with small areas of coral easily accessible with an awsome array of coulorful fish.
A trip to Hurghada ( 40kls ) is reccommended and was the only time we left the complex.
All in all a thouroughly enjoyable stay.

Have just returned from two weeks at Fort Arabesque. We were not disappointed - fabulous. We had a sea view balcony on 2nd floor in the main building - it was a big room, clean, sheets and towels changed every day and fridge topped up daily. Our balcony was huge!

We spent every day down on the beach. Unfortunately some thought it necessary to get up early to bag sunbeds but there were beds free all day so it was not necessary. I have to say the English were as much to blame for this as others - particularly saga members! The beach umbrellas were well spread out and the sea frontage was huge so plenty of space for everyone. In fact ,the gardens were huge too - very well kept and the whole complex gave an air of plenty of space and relaxation for everyone. The snorkelling was first class and you didn't have to go far out to see loads of different fish - we saw an octopus one day! This hotel has the best beach front and snorkelling facilities I have seen in Egypt.

The food - excellent. AlI l can say is that you must be very fussy or just like McDonalds to not enjoy the food. Yes - no chips every day - no burgers every day but who wants them on holiday. The choice was fantastic, it was hot unlike the comment below. It was very Italian as it is an Italian hotel! The freshly made pasta was so tasty, salads great and the cakes just to die for! Loads of fresh fruit too. No ice cream but ice cream was available free on the beach all day. It was the best food we have had all inclusive. It was full waiter service for drinks so no dispensing machines. It was proper pepsi cans, tango etc and stella lager. The wine was average. The waiter service at the bars was excellent and the waiters got to know you and what you wanted very quickly. Bottled water was available freely at meal times and the main bar - along with packets of crisps.

We did go on one Thomas Cook tour - Dessert Expedition. It was not as we expected but nonetheless enjoyable. Description was questionable. The camel ride was 50 yds on a rubbish tip and the sunset was behind the mountains!

Entertainment - average. The animation team were Italian but did speak some English. The acrobats were very good and the egyptian night too but the rest was very average. Daytime fitness classes available too and several games arranged. Pretty much what you would expect on holiday.

Sports facilities. - Kayaks available, windsurfers and a Catamaran. This area was open at very limited times. However, you could always get a Kayak when you wanted one and plenty of windsurfers. The Catamaran hardly was used. The chap on the beach was very nice but very reluctant to take it out unless he had too.

Makadi Bay itself is a bit of a concrete jungle but it was pleasant to walk round at night and we used the hotel bikes one day to get around. NB if the bike seat was not the right height there were not spanners for adjustments!!

To sum up. A fantastic holiday and we are thinking of returning again. If you are looking for a quiet, relaxing hotel with good food and cleanliness then it is for you . If you want nightlife, chips and English food then go elsewhere.

Thought it about time I wrote about Fort Arabesque, because despite never having returned to any Hotel before, we have booked Arabesque for the third time this year.
We have just returned from another Hotel in Egypt and were concerned that we may be spoiling ourselves for returning to Arabesque in October which we had already booked! So, Brayka Bay in Marsa Alam was good and we enjoyed going, but we can relax, for it is not as good as Fort Arabesque and we can still look forward to returning.
No doubt that we love Egypt, sun and heat guaranteed as good as anywhere but Arabesque has so much more going for it. It is a quiet holiday yes, but the approach on the wide beach frontage to ensure you get plenty of room between beach umbrellas instead of being crowded together, the way in which the staff look after you, the excellent right on the beach snorkelling, the layout of the gardens, the large pleasant rooms, especially in the new wing, are all added value and what for us makes Fort Arabesque one of the best experiences we have had and continue to have and look forward to on holiday.
Down sides, the restaurants are in need of a makeover and more outside eating areas would be good, but that aside, if you want a peaceful holiday in the sun, I highly recommend Fort Arabesque.

In my experience, Fort Arabesque was a good hotel with staff that provide an excellent service, especially the waiters who are very friendly and efficient. The "All Inclusive" bar service in some hotels can mean queueing at the bar for ages to get your ration of drinks - not here though. You get full waiter service that is second to none. At the beach bar in the daytime you can opt for either waiter service or self service from the well stocked fridges - this is very good

The entertainment on offer was of the usual standard to expect from this type of hotel i.e. generally mediocre but acceptible

Many of the residents opted for beach locations during the day and my understanding is that there was the normal early morning rush to secure the best locations, however the poolside sunbeds remained relatively quiet and you did not need to reserve them at the crack of dawn. I have never been to a hotel that has so much space available around the poolside. The sunbeds were generously spaced apart

If you choose this hotel, try to avoid looking out of the landward facing windows from the hotel corridors (most are opague) because you will be greeted with what looks like a dumping groung for old kitchen equipment, broken parasols etc - the view is very unsightly

So all in all the Fort is a great place to go on holiday...with one main exception. The food is of a particularly poor standard. It is served buffet style. The "hot food" is often tepid. There is too much pasta and not enough variation. Common favourites such as chips are a rarity.

So would I go back? On balance I probably would. Apart from the food the rest of the holiday experience was good

Picture's in brochure are very old ,all rooms face the sea ,lower floors have a screen of bushe's and tree's.so really no sea view as said in brochure.
Hotel building's old and in poor repair.so are the swimming pool's(concrete with paint peeling off and metal edging rusting in many place's)
Food is masked by oli./sause /spices/.very little plain basic food(first time we have ever been hit by stomach bug)all enclusive drinks very limited.Pool bar attendants like loud music (and hope you enjoy the same music time after time )Could not find kids pool.although advertised.would not rate this as 4 star more like 3 star

Friendly hotel set right on the beach at Makadi Bay. Room was great though we did ask for a diffierent room on arrival as the first one only had two beds and we have a little boy and girl. They very quickly moved us to a bigger room with sofabed and two beds so our kids could sleep separately. The beds were very comfortable and the room generally good. The food was good quality and plentiful if lacking a bit in variety. There were separate pasta, pancake and omelette chefs which was a nice touch with pizza available at lunch and dinner. Other than that, I suppose the food choice was a bit limited for little ones, though there was a good variety of meat and fish as well as salads, veg and particularly good rice at every meal. If you've got little kids, its a good idea to make use of the snacks available at the beach bar in the afternoon as dinner is not available until 7.30pm. The evening entertainment was variable but some of it was excellent - particularly the Brazilian show which included street dancing and the Kenyan tumblers. Don't expect to leave your little kids in the kids club for the whole day - the facilities were limited, it only runs for 4.5 hours a day and whilst the staff running it were very friendly (and Italian) they were a bit constrained in what they could offer. The mini disco was good however and runs every night. There is a very nice walk along Makadi Bay past all the other AI hotels. The hotel has its own dive centre which hires out snorkelling equipment etc. at very reasonable prices.

This is our second visit to Fort Arabesque, and if anything our experience was even better. The staff are so friendly and efficient and nothing is too much trouble for them. The rooms are reasonably large and comfortable, but only have a shower ensuite, whereas we do like a bath as well. All towels and bedlinen changed daily. Our particular room boy was incredible; beautiful design with towels and flowers of a heart for Valentines Day. The beach is beautiful and the sea so clear with so many different types of fish; brilliant for snorkelling. Buffet restaurant was extremely good. We stayed for 3 weeks and did not get bored with the food. Could have easily stayed another week. Swim up bar and pool very good; at that time of year the pool was heated to around 30 deg.
