This Hotel has by far the best beach on the bay, in fact we laughed when we had a look at the hotel next door as it was so bad in comparison. There is plenty of room and at whatever time of the day you get up you will always find a spot. They keep the sand clean and relatively free of grit sharp stones. The shades are large enough to cover two or three persons.

The rooms are adequate, we upgraded at the hotel for 10 Euros a day (for the room not PP.) We were in room 450 and the view was smashing.

The bars were okay but cocktails were not included in AI. So the choice was limited, however the bar staff were great fun.

In fact apart from one guy at reception who could not help us at one point, and did not have the interpersonal skills to put it over very well, all the staff were either good or very good.

FOOD--- what do you expect really? It was hot buffet food with a good variety, it was not all great quality but get dug in. My only point to the management was that the fruit choices could have had more imagination.

ENTERTAINMENT-- Mostly rubbish with a few exceptions including Kenyan dancers, Brazilian night and the Wurling Dervisher on oriental night. The animation team are paid for by the Italian tour company so do not be upset if they ignore you.

The hotel was mostly Italians and Germans all fitting in nicely with their allo allo stereotypes, I preferred to sit near the Italians both on the beach and at dinner as some of the Germans had absolutely no manners and would reserve the sun beds around them but not use them to give themselves extra space, push past people to get to the food ETC.

Two special mentions, the Thomas Cook rep Simon who gets 11/10, even the rep from the next hotel Denise made sure that we were okay when we saw her.
Some people we met who traveled with Thompsons said that our rep spoke to them more than theirs did.

And the guys at Speed devils beach buggies 002010 8446855 or via your rep. This was a great half day out in the desert.

My husband and I spent 2 weeks at the Fort Arabesque in February and what a welcome break it was from our dismal winter in the U.K.!

We travelled with Saga and they looked after us very well (we areat the younger end of the Saga age group) - the 2 Saga reps were very friendly and efficient - thank you Pammy and Sandy. Saga use the new wing of the hotel - our room was excellent with a wonderful sea view. On the entertainment side, the singer in the Sunset Bar was very repetitive but he added a bit of humour to our holiday. We particularly enjoyed the Kenyan acrobats in the main arena.

We tended to use the smaller swimming pool, which was always very quiet. The beach was fantastic and we never had a problem getting sunbeds/shades - yes, some of them were taken very early in the morning, but good luck to those people who are happy to get up at 6.00 a.m. - we certainly didn't find it necessary. All the sunbeds on the beach were nicely spaced apart, and an ice cream from the beach bar in the afternoon was an extra treat.

The snorkelling was superb and thank you Barbara (the amazing 80 year old who was guardian of the beach) for pursuading me to get up early and go snorkelling with you - it was one of the highlights of my holiday. I do hope they look after their reef, it certainly is a big asset at the moment ( they could do with employing Barbara full time!)

We mainly eat in the Saga restaurant - I wouldn't say it was haute cuisine, but it was passable (a bit canteeny) and probably what we'd expect of an all inclusive buffet style at this level of hotel There was always plenty of choice - the salads, fruit, bread and puddings were very good. Waiter service for drinks, etc. at the tables was friendly and efficient. I didn't have any tummy problems but my husband did - all I can say is he had ice in his drinks and I did not. At lunchtime we went down to the beachbar at the main end of the hotel and paid for our lunch - portions were good enough to have one meal between the two of us - it was not expensive and made for a really nice change of scenery. Probably, the one thing we would say is it would be nice on occasions to have the choice of going to an a la carte restaurant in the evening and paying extra for it.

We had perfect weather - lower 30s in daytime and 18 at night but I understand this was a bit warmer than it usually is at this time of the year. I had one or two problems with mosquito bites and would recommend taking repellent if these pests like to feed on you!

The hotel staff at the Saga wing were very friendly and efficient. All in all, we had a most enjoyable holiday and yes, we would return.

Just got back from a stay at the Hotel. Good reception, shown to the room which was clean but sea view was blocked by a great big tree.

Beautiful gardens, lovely walks by the sea with a gorgeous beach and even better snorkelling with a myriad of coloured fish to see on the reefs.

But what about the food? It was the worst I have ever experienced at any hotel that I have stayed in all around the world! Poor ingredients, cooked to death and inedible! Great platefuls beings sent back by all types of people and complaints from other guests regarding a sad lack of choice at all mealtimes. They say there is a beach grill, with a la carte, but it's only available 2 hours a day from 3:30 in the afternoon! They are I understand going to build another to blocks onto the hotel, but I would suggest that before they do so, that they send their catering staff to cookery school and fire the Chef, who is totally inept.

What a shame, great hotel and surroundings with awful catering.

we arrived on time, transfer was ok, had to walk a little way to the coach as the airport is in the middle of building work, so not too clever for the elderly or disabled to walk to.Upon arrival the reception staff dealt with all arrivals very swiftly there were 2 coaches of us arriving at the same time.Room was perfect on the ground floor right next to the restaurant which we first thought would be noisy but were wrong,as the singer finished about 11pm and didnt disturb us at all, room attendant was very good .food was a bit samey and needs to be warmer when served, plus theres limited choice, also had to wait some evenings to have table laid ready to eat.The best show to see is the acrobats they were fantastic, didnt think much of the animation team they dont want to know you unless you are italian and there shows were very poor!! Good snorkelling and ideal beach which was very clean and well maintained, although area has been spoilt by all the watersport activities, but all said will go again also you dont need to get up at the crack of dawn as there are loads of sunbeds available. If you like a cuppa in the mornings take a kettle as there isnt one provided, mini bar was included in the AI and was restocked every day. We both went down with a tummy bug but i think thats part and parcel of going to egypt, no matter how much you gel or wash your handsThe gardens are beautifully kept .Feel well rested and ready for the next holiday to egypt in september, trying El Gouna then, cant wait!!!!

Having spent a superb week on the Nile doing all the temples ect ,we booked this hotel to chill out in for the second week of our holiday. We were able to do just that as this hotel is probably best suited to the slightly older age group, ( although there were some children and younger people there ), the average age would have been 50+.
A slightly older hotel with plenty of character and wonderful well established gardens, with it's own beach front and plenty of sun beds + beach bar, good sized pool with bar.
Rooms were spacious, clean and with v/good service. Food in the several restaurants was plentiful with an excellent choice for all meals ( especially the sweets ! ) being all incusive we took full advantage of this.
Staff were friendly and helpful at all times, there is a theatre on site with nightly entertainment, sailboarding, canoeing are free with instuction if needed and snorkeling in the sea close to shore is fantastic with small areas of coral easily accessible with an awsome array of coulorful fish.
A trip to Hurghada ( 40kls ) is reccommended and was the only time we left the complex.
All in all a thouroughly enjoyable stay.

Have just returned from two weeks at Fort Arabesque. We were not disappointed - fabulous. We had a sea view balcony on 2nd floor in the main building - it was a big room, clean, sheets and towels changed every day and fridge topped up daily. Our balcony was huge!

We spent every day down on the beach. Unfortunately some thought it necessary to get up early to bag sunbeds but there were beds free all day so it was not necessary. I have to say the English were as much to blame for this as others - particularly saga members! The beach umbrellas were well spread out and the sea frontage was huge so plenty of space for everyone. In fact ,the gardens were huge too - very well kept and the whole complex gave an air of plenty of space and relaxation for everyone. The snorkelling was first class and you didn't have to go far out to see loads of different fish - we saw an octopus one day! This hotel has the best beach front and snorkelling facilities I have seen in Egypt.

The food - excellent. AlI l can say is that you must be very fussy or just like McDonalds to not enjoy the food. Yes - no chips every day - no burgers every day but who wants them on holiday. The choice was fantastic, it was hot unlike the comment below. It was very Italian as it is an Italian hotel! The freshly made pasta was so tasty, salads great and the cakes just to die for! Loads of fresh fruit too. No ice cream but ice cream was available free on the beach all day. It was the best food we have had all inclusive. It was full waiter service for drinks so no dispensing machines. It was proper pepsi cans, tango etc and stella lager. The wine was average. The waiter service at the bars was excellent and the waiters got to know you and what you wanted very quickly. Bottled water was available freely at meal times and the main bar - along with packets of crisps.

We did go on one Thomas Cook tour - Dessert Expedition. It was not as we expected but nonetheless enjoyable. Description was questionable. The camel ride was 50 yds on a rubbish tip and the sunset was behind the mountains!

Entertainment - average. The animation team were Italian but did speak some English. The acrobats were very good and the egyptian night too but the rest was very average. Daytime fitness classes available too and several games arranged. Pretty much what you would expect on holiday.

Sports facilities. - Kayaks available, windsurfers and a Catamaran. This area was open at very limited times. However, you could always get a Kayak when you wanted one and plenty of windsurfers. The Catamaran hardly was used. The chap on the beach was very nice but very reluctant to take it out unless he had too.

Makadi Bay itself is a bit of a concrete jungle but it was pleasant to walk round at night and we used the hotel bikes one day to get around. NB if the bike seat was not the right height there were not spanners for adjustments!!

To sum up. A fantastic holiday and we are thinking of returning again. If you are looking for a quiet, relaxing hotel with good food and cleanliness then it is for you . If you want nightlife, chips and English food then go elsewhere.

Thought it about time I wrote about Fort Arabesque, because despite never having returned to any Hotel before, we have booked Arabesque for the third time this year.
We have just returned from another Hotel in Egypt and were concerned that we may be spoiling ourselves for returning to Arabesque in October which we had already booked! So, Brayka Bay in Marsa Alam was good and we enjoyed going, but we can relax, for it is not as good as Fort Arabesque and we can still look forward to returning.
No doubt that we love Egypt, sun and heat guaranteed as good as anywhere but Arabesque has so much more going for it. It is a quiet holiday yes, but the approach on the wide beach frontage to ensure you get plenty of room between beach umbrellas instead of being crowded together, the way in which the staff look after you, the excellent right on the beach snorkelling, the layout of the gardens, the large pleasant rooms, especially in the new wing, are all added value and what for us makes Fort Arabesque one of the best experiences we have had and continue to have and look forward to on holiday.
Down sides, the restaurants are in need of a makeover and more outside eating areas would be good, but that aside, if you want a peaceful holiday in the sun, I highly recommend Fort Arabesque.
