This was our first trip to Egypt and we will certainly be back!!! Makadi Palace is one of the loveliest places we have ever stayed.

The food is amazing!!! We especially loved the Discovery restaurant where there was always a good range of fresh fish, fresh meat and fresh pasta, all cooked in front of you to order. Breakfast had omelettes cooked to your liking and a lovely range of warm pastries, toast making facilities and honey, jam and butter. The only thing I would perhaps suggest would be more fresh fruit available. Especially as we were sunbathing next to a pomegranate tree but never saw a single pomegranate!!

The rendezvous snack bar has a delicious selection of ice creams, home made biscuits and freshly cooked pancakes plus a range of fruit. They also made the most delicious kebabs for lunch.

The sunset snack bar was really good too and very popular so you sometimes had to wait if you wanted to sit down but there was a takeaway option too. The fish and chips and calamari was to die for!!

There are also a really good range of a la carte restaurants, we tried the Thai, the Italian and the Mediterranean, all of which we're fabulous and we were able to eat very, very well from the all inclusive options.

The staff there are so helpful and will go out of their way to help. We only tipped when we felt the service was good (which was most of the time) but this seemed fair and worked well.

There are lots of people who get up with the sun to put towels on their sunbeds but we weren't early risers and always managed to get a good spot where we wanted to be.

Trips wise, we didn't do many as we were having such a lovely time but we would highly recommend the diving which is just along the beach. They are very professional and take very good care of you!! The diving in the Red Sea was utterly amazing!!! Although we found the snorkelling off the jetty really great too.

Avoid taking the coach to the Grand Palace. It was awful- a very long 3 hours waiting to be picked up!! It did remind us how lucky we were to be in makadi though!

We had a wonderful time and can't wait to book and go back next year!!!

5 star!

Especially measured by Egyptian standards, this hotel is quite good. The setting is nice, and the layout of everything is quite nice as well, while at the same time giving you the feeling that you are in Egypt. Staff is mostly nice. Considering the price of this hotel, one gets a lot for the money. I would recommend it for the right audience.

By "right audience" I mean anyone who is booking an all-inclusive vacation and plans to stay mostly in the hotel, packed in with tons of Germans and Russians. (I don't mean that in a sarcastic way).

There are a few things one needs to be aware of though. For one, it is almost impossible to get individual transport through the hotel. We wanted to play golf a few times while we were there, and it was practically impossible to get a taxi to the golf course. The staff also exhibited no interest in helping us to figure out transportation other than letting us use a phone. (It was pretty clear that they had nothing to do with the golf course, and hence had no interest in helping us).

Another bad experience was with the scuba diving. Don't be fooled by the house reef! While there IS a house reef, and it isn't bad, actually, one can't really easily scuba dive off the dock that goes out to the reef. One can shore dive a mile down the beach, but that's not the same. Furthermore, we had a really bad experience with the dive shop that kind of goes with the hotel (Aquarius). They transported us 45 minutes away form the hotel and then we took an hour's boat ride back to almost right in front of the hotel. What a farce! And the equipment and the overall operation was bad to the point of being unsafe. (This has nothing to do with the Makadi Palace hotel directly, and I am not lowering my rating because of it, but it might be interesting information for scuba divers). We ended up diving with the dive shop by the Prima Life hotel, which was much better.

The food in the hotel is so-so. The buffets really aren't that good. The individual restaurants are much better and I recommend them. But make sure you get your reservations early! We were there for a week, and we only managed to get into other restaurants 3 evenings. That's outrageous when you think about it! The hotel should have a better way to handle reservations and get people in! On one hand, one is told that one can only make reservations a day in advance, and then at the same time, the restaurants are booked for days out. How that can be is beyond me.

Another thing the hotel needs to fix is the drink situation. This is in the desert for crying out loud! You should drink as much as possible. Yet one constantly gets drinks the size of a very small plastic cup. "Thimble" might be a better term. And the service takes forever (they are working their butts off, but they don't have enough staff, it seems) so one is lucky to get 2 drinks with dinner. We also tried to get bottles of water. A few days in, the bartender complained that "we get water every day so they run out". Ahh.... what?!? Yes, we get water every day! No sh....!

Another thing worth mentioning is the Internet situation. Basically, you can't count on getting online. The only place to get online is in the lobby, and the overall infrastructure is so poor, most of the time, it is impossible to get even connected to the network. When you are connected, you may or may not be able to get on the Internet through it. And even if you do, it is so slow, you can probably not even download email. If you have to get online while on vacation (as I do... and many other people do), this is a huge problem and simply unacceptable in this day and age. (And I have never experienced this in other Egyptian hotels). I am tempted to give a one-star rating for this alone, because if you depend on the Internet, this may completely ruin your vacation.

We have just returned from the Makadi Palace. It was our first visit to Egypt and it was booked last minute. We travelled as 2 couples and although the rooms on arrival were adequate we did ask if there were any 3rd floor rooms available as according to reviews these had the best views. We spoke to Victoria on guest relations and Adel who organised this. The rooms having a pool and sea view and adjacent to our friends. We had V.I.P. treatment for a couple of nights. one night being guests of the management team were we had champagne reception with canapes and then a 3 course meal in the Botanical which was fabulous, followed by a party on the beach.
The second night guests of the beach party.the steak was amazing.
The rooms were large ,cleaned daily. The bath towels and beach towels changed daily.
Food was excellent especially in.the Botanical and the Thai. There were always plenty sunbeds even though the hotel was full. I would recommend water shoes at the beach as there is lots of coral. Entertainment was very good. The staff, on the whole were very friendly, however there were a couple of waiters that were very miserable in their work. The only negative i have is the lighting at night as although looked very pretty the walkways were too dark.
One little tip - take American dollars to tip the waiters
Thanks again to Victoria Marvin and Adel - you are a credit to the hotel
We will be back.

Room Tip: Chose a room on the 3rd floor with a pool view

This was our first visit to Egypt and chose Makadi Palace as part of a last minute deal. We were nervous about the hotel but we need not have been. The complex was huge, the rooms large and the food was fantastic.

We travelled as two families with nine children aged between 13 and a toddler (took a couple of nieces and nephews) and with their grandparents and there was something for everybody.

The junior suites were large with huge queen size beds and the hotel ensured our rooms were close to each other. The rooms were cleaned each day and the staff left surprises for the kids with alligators, turtles and swans modelled with the towels.

There were a number of restaurants to choose from and even though the hotel was at full capacity, we did not have trouble seating everybody. We also tried Mumbai and the Thai Gardens and would recommend both.

The pool areas were large and we found ourselves close to the kids pool everyday. Lunch was eaten by the pool with either chicken/beef sandwiches from the Rendezvous or burgers from Sunset Grill. There were staff that bought cold drinks to the loungers throughout the day.

I would recommend going to the diving centre which is 5-10 minutes walk down the beach front. We rented masks and snorkels and also tried some of the water rides.

All in all, a great holiday and was sorry that I didn't book a longer break. Thanks to Adel and all the staff who made our stay very welcoming!

We have Just returned from a second visit to the Makadi palace and what a treat it was again.
The family stayed in two Junior suites, which were clean, well maintained and had fantastic views of the pool and sea. We all started to relax and enjoy it from the minute we got out of the airport, when we were overcharged for our visas. The staff at the hotel cannot be faulted, Anna and Marvin on guest relations were fantastic and really helped us make the most of the holiday. We did two trips while we were there, one to Luxor and a snorkelling trip. We thought that he Luxor trip was excellent and can be recommended, but, it was very hot. The snorkelling trip was also excellent, but the sea life around Makadi Palace is equally as good and almost certainly the best I have seen in Egypt. The standards of the restaurants were very good and everybody was very friendly. Being return visitors, we were treated exceptionally well, and I cannot fault any of the staff. The evening entertainment was exceptional, with international acts performing at the beach parties and outside Joker bar. Probably the best entertainment I have seen in a hotel anywhere in the world. We are all looking forward to returning very, very soon and would like to thank all the staff again for making it such a brilliant holiday.
