The Makadi Palace Hotel

We spent the first week of Feb here and we were very impressed. We booked with Red Sea Holidays through Travel Deals Direct and got a very good deal. The Red Sea Hols rep was on site daily and was very helpful. We loved the hotel and would be very happy to go back.

We had a 'Junior Suite' as standard - don't pay more for it if you're offered 'cos we got the impression that they are just ordinary rooms. We were on the ground floor over looking the entrance of the Grand Makadi next door and the Red Sea. The room was spacious and clean. The room entrance doors need a short slam though, otherwise they don't lock. Not all staff realise this and we got back one evening to find that the chap who pops in to turn the bed down had left the door unlocked. Staff are very helpful, but we did feel our room was alittle like Piccadilly Circus with staff coming to clean, check the room has been cleaned, turn the bed down, etc. Judicious use of the 'Do not disturb' sign was needed!

Had no problem finding sun-beds, there were always loads free. The pools are freezing though, but the ones in the Grand Makadi were warmer. There are poolside waiting staff who constantly wander round to bring drinks. We managed to get small change for tipping from the Reception at the Grand Makadi - the Makadi Palace Reception staff weren't quite as helpful on that front.

The food was excellent. We ate lunch in the self-service buffet Dome and Melange restaurants and the Grill cafe, but only ate in the Dome the first night. The rest of the meals we took in the Thai Garden (twice - very good), Botanical restaurant (once - excellent), Taraboush lebanese restaurant in the Grand Makadi (twice - very good) and the Italian at the Grand Makadi (once - OK). My husband did have a tummy bug but we're still not completely sure that it wasn't something he's got before we went out or picked up whilst travelling. We thought the All Inclusive tarif was excellent and didn't go off tarif during the week. They do try to get you to up-grade your drinks by paying an extra £25 a week, but we didn't and there really wasn't any need to.

It was lovely to visit Egypt and be hassle free, the staff were friendly and helpful without being pushy.

The worst thing was that Red Sea Hols booked the flights with Thomas Cook and the aeroplane was like a sardine tin. I've never travelled with such little leg room, and for a 5-6 hour flight it really wasn't comfortable.

This was a beautiful hotel with excellent service. The people are amazing and i would highly reccomend this hotel. The thai restaurant and botanic Gardens served fantastic food. I will be returning in September with my husband. We normally go to the caribbean but i think this will be our new destination and only a 5 hr flight. The only down side to it is that the all inclusive stops at midnight, the entertainment needs a bit of work and the mini bar in your room isnt free, but other than that you are treat like royalty and the service and surroundings are 5 star .I loved it.A special thanks to Sammy and Dave from the piano bar who really went out of their way for us.

As a travel agent you do get to be very fussy about where you stay but I can honestly say this hotel is lovely, the staff were great and no-one hassled you for tips at all. The food was good as you can eat in any of the resturants including the ones at the sister hotel next door ( Grand Makadi ) even at lucn you had a good choice not just buffet. The pool was out of this world, big so not busy. The loungers were comfy and the towels were provided for you everyday.
Red Sea holidays who operate this hotel are just 1st class, service from the airport right the way through the holiday was second to none.
So overall I would recommend this hotel to everyone.

Returned from the Makadi Palace last night, the hotel is absolutely stunning, it looks like an Arabian Palace (hence the name I spose), it is set around a beautiful swimming pool which is actually freezing but once your in you are so numb you dont notice it, by night the hotel looks very dreamy as it is lit by hundreds of lamps and is extremely pretty.
We spent the first few days around the pool, until the builders in the hotel next door started digging and banging then we decided to hit the beach.
The beach is lovely but you need to get down there before the Germans which believe me is no mean feat, my husband was getting down there at 7:30 most mornings and was still beaten by them (same old story). This hotel is really keyed up for the Germans, although they are far easier to holiday with than the Russians who we had to endure when we holidayed in Sharm, I think we have a better understanding of them and them of us. The food was ok, aimed mainly at the germasn but there were some concessions for us brits eggs, chips, bread etc, we managed to find something to eat at every meal! there are also 6 themed restaurants, Thai (very good) Mediterranean (Poor) Haute Cuisine (Good) Lebanese (Good) Italian-pizza(good) and Caribbean which we didn't use, so that broke up the week quite nicely, the staff are good and in most cases very friendly, yes they expect a tip but thats how they make a living wage, so you cant blame them.
as previously stated the beach is lovley, and the sea is very easy to access, probably the easiest we have encountered so fare in Egypt, the beach shoes are recommended (approx 40 LE in the hotel shop) as there is a coral shelf all along the coast and it is very sharp on bare feet. The sea is warm and full of all sorts of life we found Octopus, Eels which were beautifully coloured, star fish, and a multitude of beautiful marine fish which were always interested in the tip bits we took in for them, until it was pointed out that this was not actually allowed (oops). the rooms are roomy but a little stale, especially the bathroom, but we did not let that spoil our holiday.
The weather was perfect and by wednesday the temperature had risen to high 80's low 90's, perfect after all the snow and cold weather we have had in England.
Hurgada airport is a bit of a strange place, coming home we had to show our passports to nearly everyone we encounterd in one instance we were asked to show it by 3 people within a 50 yard stretch!! I was expecting the woman in the loo to ask to see it, it got a bit annoying after the 50th time.
All in all we had a good time and would recommend this hotel to friends, I guess the only way you will know if this hotel is for you is to visit it for yourselves, we read these reviews before we went away and I must say some of them made us very warey, but we got a pleasent suprise and definately got the weather we wanted. Hope this helps.

Recently returned from the Makadi Palce felt obliged to inform all travellers of the good and bad points of this hotel. Firstly if when you arrive, you are told that you have been upgraded - BE WARNED! We arrived at night and were shown to a fantastic room, the size of an apartment with two sleeping areas , sitting room and huge bathroom, however this faces a building site and although screened off, there is constant noise - day and night. When asked to change at reception told no rooms available and had to spend yet another sleepless night. Following day shown two other rooms in the main complex - these although spacious were very dark and unsuitable as still has wet varnish and had strong chemical smells. Eventually though given a room in the main block on a top floor with sea view, but you guessed it - next door to a generator!!!!!
On the more positive side, rooms extremely clean and staff generally helpful. The food of reasonable standard, although we have had better in Egypt, this being our fifth visit.
I did have tummy troubles one day and had heard of quite a few other guests who had had to visit the on site doctor. Be careful if you go snorkelling as the coral if accidentally touched is highly poisonous and can result in extreme burns.
Lots of sunbeds, but if you like to sit be the sea though you will have to be up extremely early to beat certain other European guests!!
Do try the a la carte restaurants as the buffet can be like a cafeteria at times.
To sum up, a good break away to find some winter sunshine. Red Sea Holidays should definitely make their clients aware of the construction - if we had known would have chosen another resort.

Firstly not 5 star but good 4. However spacious clean room on level 4 great views comfortable bed. Friendly attentive staff that seem genuine, tipping in dollars may have stimulated this.
Food, went fearing worse. Most chefs wear latex gloves and whilst this does not guarantee protection at least an effort is being made. We took a handgel and used at all times. Not aware of problems during our stay. Selection of food good, the self serve areas had lots of weird salards and mixtures and we kept away from these but there were sufficent other choices. A la carte areas good quality with Botanical Gardens and Thai worth visit.
Pool cold at this time. Beach busy you need shoes for the water and about 300m walk from complex. Not sure if complex is child friendly but an effort is made. Nothing around hotel bus visit to Hurgharda not made as warned of hassle from shop keepers.
Overall good value hotel to stay and relax and we would return.

I would return to the hotel for a chill out holiday with no hesitation! the food is excellent, and like the fact that there was so many resturants to chose from (we didn't get around them all). Not much to do outside the hotel as is very remote, we normally llke to go for walks in the evenings. Although the gardens are so large that wasn't a probelm.

We love the pools which are like lagoons, the pools were very clean infact the whole place is spotless. The rooms are lovely my only concern which i had nightmares about was that we were on the top floor with a four year old and the balcony we had was very low - hence patio shut most of the time. would request ground floor next time!!

We enjoyed the Grand Makardi in the evening for a drink, went over to the family star too which is where most of the entertainment is. We used the hotel shuttle bus to go to Hungarda - didn't think much of it there prefer Sharm. Although it was nice to go down to the new marina.

All in all we had a fantastic time - we never return to the same place but would in this case for a quick get away for a week - think i would bored for two weeks.
