A great relaxing stay in a lovely well managed hotel.

A little late with our review but, we arrived on 3rd Jan and stayed until 17th. My husband and I were more than impressed by the friendliness of all the staff that did a wonderful job of looking after us and making sure we wanted for nothing. We stayed in a junior suite and had lovely views out to one of the many pools and the Red Sea beyond. Our room was very comfortable and cleaned on a daily basis. We found the restaurants provided plenty of choice and always very welcoming. Fusion restaurant quickly became our favourite, their steak was superb and would rival any good fillet steak in the UK. The Reef restaurant provided an excellent breakfast and was only a few yards from our room and come lunchtime not too far to move from our comfortable sun bed! Morning coffee was always enjoyed at The Cliff restaurant, where, if you were really lazy, you could sit overlooking the sea for as long as you wanted. The General Manager, Michael Booker, was always on hand to make sure we were enjoying our holiday. I have to say that never in any previous holiday resort we've been in, have we ever been aware of who was the hotel manager let alone approached to make sure we were happy with everything. Top marks to him. We would make only one adverse comment, one that we did in fact mention to Michael Booker, we felt that the bedlinen, though always clean, is now becoming a little tired and in need of replacement.

Came here for a week in Sept 2012 with my boyfriend. We were both very disappointed with the hotel. Looks nice in the photos but the food was poor. Were both really ill all week from the second day onwards (!) which ruined our holiday, and I was severely ill for two weeks on my return to the UK. Both put it down to the food - which was lukewarm at best. By the third day we were both only on bread and chips - and weren't even happy eating those! Wouldn't recommend the bar in the middle of the pool. Best place to eat was the panini area. Went on a couple of trips - riding a camel was the best part although not advisable if you need the toilet every 5 minutes...! Wouldn't recommend and to be honest this experience has put me off Egypt altogether.

Thank you for your review following your stay with us LAST SEPTEMBER. I am sorry to learn you were disappointed with your stay, however if your review is based on food standards alone, I would like to re-assure you and anyone else thinking of staying with us, that we take the greatest care in respect of our food hygiene standards. Our kitchens and restaurants are audited on a monthly basis, by an independent internationally approved company and we more than meet the normal criteria. I checked the doctors records for the period you were here and note that out of around 900 guests in house, we had less than 6 reported cases of tummy upsets in the whole month. It is therefore most probable that your upset might have been caused by a change in diet or a change in climate or other outside causes.

I hope you will reconsider visiting Egypt again in the future.

Sincerely

Michael D Booker

we travelled has a couple in january and stayed at the grand hotel.. this hotel is probably a 4 star hotel at best.. rooms were clean but very basic... we had an adjoining room next to a couple who came rolling in at the early hours and arguing , shouting ect but we could even here them going to the toilet... most staff are very friendly and helpful... we had good banter with them... we had the beauty and massage treatments which in my view aint very good .. but you get pestered until you have one or two... the indian restaurant isnt what you would get in england so i wouldnt bother with going back into that restaurant.. the fusion is very very nice and you are well looked after... i would return here again just to see how things will improve under the new manager who took the time to talk to holiday makers and takes great interest to what needs to be done just to give the grand hotel that little bit of something to make it a better place....

We stayed here for a week in January, I can not speak highly enough of this hotel. The staff were top class, extremely friendly and would go that extra mile for you. When I arrived I was full of cold, the staff were only all trying to cure me with lemons ect...all very kind. The food was fantastic, from the buffet's to the resaurants, it was varied everyday, clean and nothing ran out. Rooms were slightly dated, but wouldnt consider this a problem at all. We are hoping to get back in May and cannot wait.
Cheers, Bave.x

We have just returned fro our fourth visit to this Five Star hotel (Egyptian tourist board classification ) I have noted some comments from other visitors. This hotel should not be compared to the Savoy Hotel London, and nor should the price paid. This is an exceptionally good holiday hotel, The standard of food in the A-la-Carte restaurants was excellent , we had dinner three times in the Mexican restaurant where Mamoud an his staff provided impeccable food and service, the same could be said about the Olive and Fusion, we did not try the Indian restaurant. For visitors that have never been out of Europe, all inclusive takes on a different meaning, no waiting at understaffed bars, waiters will bring your drink to the poolside, table, and entertainment area. The informal music provided by Adel in the Terrace bar was welcome on several evening. Last year we took all of our family for a special occasion, all want to make a return visit, we will certainly do so. We met the new General Manager who is from Yorkshire, I am sure he will soon sort out any small problems commented on by some guests

I was there at the same time as the reviews below and yes what they say is correct.
I work in quality health and safety so you can imagine that I notice a lot of things that some people don't.
All of the staff and management are the best I have came across anywhere in the world. The management team are very good at dealing with situations when people need helping. As I seen.
Such lovely people. I wish Michael well in his position with the hotel. I do hope that they act on these criticisms of tatty umbrella 's and chairs and loungers because this hotel is beautiful the staff are second to none so don't drop standards by not keeping up with maintenance and replacing of items.
Food is great I couldn't fault . Bearing in mind I studied the hygiene of chef's and prep and temperature control of food.
Always lots of variety in every restaurant. I was disappointed in the Indian restaurant not being very spicy.
Staff are always concerned about your well being and comfort. Hence the giving out of bottles and bottles of cold water.
Unfortunately they do need to look at personal hygiene of waiting on staff ( without being rude , I appreciate the long hours they work.) but it is very off putting when the body odour is so powerful you lose your appetite . This was a minority but is an important issue in my professional opinion.
It didn't fair well getting locked in a public toilet on the first day . H &S issue. But the toilet attendant got his tool belt took off the handle and lock and got me out.
This must be a regular occurrence
and needs attention.
But if asked did I enjoy my stay, was there an high presence of management, and would I return or recommend the hotel? The answer is yes to all of those questions.
People mention the steps and stairs. Of which there are many . Bearing in mind that it was only 5 months from my stroke, I managed well. Prior to going I had asked for a room near to reception this is vital because the complex is so spread out. But the steps provide well needed exercise after eating the lovely foods on offer. Special thanks to my favourite FUSION RESTAURANT
I would give this place 4 stars .
Well done everyone concerned but please carry out maintenance and take note of my comments.
Kind Regards, hope to see you on my return with my family in the summer.

Dear Playermojo- thank you for taking time to write your review. Thanks sincereley for your feedback. We are delighted you enjoyed your stay with us at the Grand Hotel Sharm El Sheikh and hope it will not be too long before you return again.

Thank you for your kind comments too. It was great to read your kind words about our staff- yes they are excellent and we are very proud of them. The points you raised are useful too, as these help guide us towards exceeding guest expectations.

I would like to re-assure you that food hygiene and general health and safety are of paramount importance to us. We have a n on-going preventative maintainance programme and the refurbishment on rooms is currently on-going, however this is behind the scenes, so as not to cause any inconvenience to guests in house. The small number of parasols damaged by a recent storm have been repaired and sunloungers are being renovated gradually as required.

All staff have thorough medical examinations prior to taking up appointment. All kitchen and Food and Beverage Staff also undergo internal and later external food safety training .We will however certainly raise the issue of body odour with the respective managers.

We were sorry to learn of the problem with the toilet door -however, I sincerely believe this was a one off as we have had no similar reports on file.

We are delighted to learn that you would return to us and look forwarsd to meeting you once again.

Sincerely

Michael D Booker
