Like most people, we researched all possible hotels before booking, which included checking on here. And this hotel came up the best for the money we could afford. It had the odd bad comment but you have to balance that with the majority which were good comments.

And it worked well for us, in fact we probably got more than we expected, but that's because we didn't go expecting a 5* (it would have cost a lot more than we paid for a start!).

Yes we didn't get loo rolls replenished as much as we'd have liked, and the choice of drinks were a bit basic (cocktails not really cocktails as we know them) but you get what you pay for and if that was the worst of our problems I think we were very lucky! And it really was excellent value for money.

So many choices of beautiful places to sunbathe (so many pools to choose from!) and a lovely beach (think the person who said the beach was poor must have wandered onto a different beach!), such hot weather, almost unbearable at times, friendly service, decent food and a fab customer relations team who checked on guests daily to check all was ok and putting right any problems, really appreciated that service.

I would highly recommend this hotel, don't be put off by the odd bad comment, look at the bigger picture and balance them with all the good ones. We will definitely go back.

After hearing from family members about the fantastic time they have had over the past 3 years holidaying at The Grand Hotel Sharm El Sheik, me and my partner decided to take the plunge and joined them last December for a week in the sun.....and sooo glad we did! Upon arrival, we were greeted by the most friendly Red Sea Reps ,and the Management Team and Staff were the best we have had the pleasure of meeting on a holiday. The Hotel itself is just amazing, (especially may I add around Christmas Time, with all the decorations including Santa in the Lobby, and a Gingerbread House to die for lol!). Entertainment is brilliant, and not too overboard unlike some main resorts. Everyone really go out of their way to make you feel as if you are home from home. Big thumbs up to all at The Grand Hotel, Sharm El Sheik, and we'll see you in December 2014 again.

This was our first trip to Egypt and I was very skeptical about it, but after spending 2 lovely weeks at The Grand Hotel we will be returning. The choice of restaurants was excellent there were 8 restaurants altogether plus the sharm restaurant, and 8 pools, you were spoilt for choice of where to eat in the evenings and where to sit round the pools during the day. The staff are very friendly and helpful, they made our holiday very comfortable. The hotel room was a little dated but the cleaners made up for that with there towel designs. Overall an excellent holiday and we cannot wait to return to The Grand.

First trip to the sharm!

First impressions upon arrival: Hotel grounds look amazing and importantly secure! Well kept and rather green considering the surroundings. The main reception is large and spacious and check in was rather easy with welcome drinks and snacks for the late night arrival (These where needed as monarch class a 5.5hr flight as short haul....)

The grounds: Walking to the room upon arrival you get a glimpse at just how big this resort is with beautiful gardens and many pools which look lovely at night time! Also they spray for mosquito's daily so this helps but please buy some spray from the pharmacy

The rooms: Reading previous reviews people have said the rooms look "dated" Well to be honest they DON'T! The only slight annoyance is the rattle coming from the aircon but a little wd40 should resolve that. My only complaint regarding the rooms are a lack of power sockets near the bed and the outside chairs being dirty but with being on the ground floor and near the path used for vehicles its no wonder.

The pools: Many to choose from all clean and a lovely temperature! Cannot fault the pools at all and the pool attendants on the ball with drinks. Only annoyance is the sales reps coming around a stern "not interested" works but feels a tad rude.

The food: Use the restaurants and if you cant book in just turn up they will try to accommodate you. Fusion was my overall favourite!!

The beach: Well seeing as the resort is on the cliffs the beach is nice although it could do with a clean up now and again and the sand sifted for large particles as they do get uncomfortable under the feet.

Overall a lovely resort and I will be visiting again next year!

Room Tip: Ask for a second floor room and garden or sea view if possible!

not sure where to begin!
we arrived after 10 hours of travelling around 10pm, starving hungry and were told restaurants now closed and were offered a table of bread rolls, cucumber and glasses of water. I don't eat bread. after asking for more food at this 5* all inclusive, I was told I could order room service, obviously at a charge to me.

We came here for my 30th Bday to celebrate, the hotel would of known this from my passport etc and I did notify the travel agent, however, nothing was mentioned, or put on for me by the hotel, despite at the welcome meeting being told they would do something nice for birthdays! nevermind

no drinks in the rooms
had to ask for a towel on first night, then when I called the reception he argued with me and told me there is, I asked him to come and show me because there isn't!! a man appeared with some towels for me shortly afterwards.

if you exchange money at the hotel they refuse to give a receipt for the exchange so be very careful you check the exchange rates etc and what you get off them. I find this very unusual, I even asked a manager on reception, he said no other hotel does this. every hotel I have been in always provides a receipt for money exchanges as it is still a transaction.

we went to four rooms until we found one which was habitable for a week.

the rooms were all very basic, tatty, shabby and poorly decorated. lots of poly filla jobs. the floors in the rooms were unlevel and had various types of flooring.

roms quite dusty, although not a criticism of the cleaning staff as they honestly work very hard and seem friendly.

we both had profuse diarrhoea and nausea for 3-4 days of our 7 day holiday, leaving us pretty much room bound. food was fine, bit boring, but alright. I did see the chef, I assume head chef, was wearing chefs white jacket with a flag and 'chef' embroided on his left side walk up to the salad bar and pick out and eat from the bowl of salad with his bare hands. no wonder I had diarrhoea.
drinks are fine if you drink alcohol, it is much easier to get alcohol than a soft drink here.
I don't drink alcohol and love fruit juices, however, fruit juice is an extra £2 per glass!!!!!!
if you ask for juice otherwise you are served squash, they call it mango juice but it is watery squash, definitely not from a fruit.
only certain bars will serve you a bottle of water, despite being warned on arrival to only drink bottled water and drink lots.
there are lots and lots and lots of stairs/steps, the hotel complex is based on an apartment block type style where the reception and restaurants are in a main building and all the accommodation is scattered about in different apartment blocks all over the complex. lots of walking to restaurants and reception etc.

Wifi is very poor, poor signal and only at the one reception area, if you attempt to use it at a busy time, ie evening, you wont stand a chance at downloading or sending emails etc.

the pools are best feature although all very shallow, deepest one is about 135cm I think. no lifeguards on duty in pool areas so careful if taking children.

there are massage and spa staff that constantly hassle and pester you all day long around the pool and longer areas, they will wake you up (from sleeping on the sun beds) and try and sell you over priced massages and pedicures etc, very very annoying. will pester you every single day.
I had a massage and pedicure, really just to get rid of them, very overpriced and very basic service served in a wooden shed.

towels for the pools are all faded and tatty and often thread bare and smell damp.

there are no snacks available like other all inc hotels, its three meals a day, thats it.

most of the hotel staff seem friendly and helpful.

don't pay for trips from the reps as they are very expensive, walk out of the hotel and turn left, there is a shopping centre called il mercato (10 min walk) up the road they have a really good excursions shop there, we paid £80 for dolphin swimming, hotel rep wanted £155!!!! exactlt same place and experience.

indian restaurant not very nice, no drinks included, not even water.
They didn't have pepsi max, didn't have orange juice, didn't have apple juice desite being on menu! small portions, the curry was runny sauce with chunks of meat in. no onions or peppers etc as you would expect and rice like uncle bens microwave rice. all the al a carte restaurants serve fod very quickly which makes me think the food is sat lying around under a heater waiting.

the Mexican was horrible! worst ever. the guacamole wasn't, it was a green runny mess, the sour cream well god knows what that was, and the 'salsa' was the ketchup that they serve in the other restaurants, just normal ketchup. the chicken was served on a sizzling platter with carrots and cabbage - is this traditional Mexican veg?? I was hoping for peppers and onions and chilli etc. very strange. service good though.

hotel have its own taxi service, they insist it is the best and safest, however it is 4 times what you would pay in a taxi parked up outside the hotel. always barter with the taxi, to old markets we paid 25 Egyptian pounds, to soho square we paid 40 Egyptian pounds. they will try and get more out of you.

generally I didn't enjoy Egypt. felt very vulnerable outside the hotel. constantly hassled, and pestered and ripped off.

all shop keepers ask you your name, where your from, and I was obviously lucky because every shop I went to I was offered special discount for being first customer. everywhere!! all liars and rip offs!

I wouldn't go back to this hotel unless it was ridiculously cheap and I was desperate for a hot hot hot weather holiday.

Well where do I start!! This was our second visit back to The Grand Hotel in two months!! Our first visit we fell in love with the place & the beautiful people & simply had to come back. We've just got back from our second hol & it was even better than our first!!....Didn't think it was possible, but it was :)

The grounds we're in even more beautiful blooms this time round & it looked so magical & enchanting, like a fairy tale, so picturesque.
Our room was a different room, over looking the grill pool bar, which was stunning, beautiful views of the pool & sea. It was lush to sit out on the balcony, taking in the surroundings both during the day & at night.
Our air con was a god send & kept us refreshed, as the weather was so hot, it hit 48 degrees one day!!!

The cleanliness of the hotel was top notch, as usual, they are forever cleaning the grounds, pools, bars & walk ways 24/7. The staff really work hard to keep the hotel & it's grounds spotless & there hard work pays off.

The pools we're divine as normal & offered a well earned cool off, from the glorious Egyptian sun. We spent most of out time down at the animation pool this time, instead of the grill bar pool. Which was in actual fact so much more fun. We played water polo every morning, followed by a fun water aerobics session, with water volley ball in the afternoon. The animation team made our days such fun down there, we had non stop giggles & laughter. Especially Emily,Chris & Natalya from the animation team along with Eslam the DJ who made our days & evenings so much fun & we're particularly good with our teenage daughter, credit where credits due to these guys..... THANKYOU.

All the staff we're amazing & everyone remembered us from our last visit & welcomed us back with open arms, it was very touching.
We'd become more like family with a lot of the staff & this relaxed us even more during our paradise holiday.
Miss Dee, was her usual amazing, friendly, smiley self, always on hand to help anybody & as thorough as ever with her strict meal time surveillance, she definitely made you feel safe & looked after.
Leny & Sha on guest relations we're there normal happy, bubbly, friendly, understandable, approachable selfs, always checking daily with guests if they had any concerns, worries or problems, which incidentally if there we're, was sorted out straight away & rectified to a mutual agreement. A fabulous, professional team who are a force to be reckoned with.
Mr Baggot was again his friendly self & made us feel so very welcomed back on our return, with a big smile & hug. His efficiency & attention to detail to make all guests happy is admirable & reliable, a truly lovely man.
All the bar staff we're fabulous & looked after us completely, there was never an empty glass. Yasseur the terrace bar manager was great, a real gent & looked after us like royalty, along with the upstairs animation bar manager. Attia & Wael & yousef looked after us night after night, bless them, such good lads.
Whilst during the day, we had our lovely Sobey at the grill bar pool, Our cheeky Ahmed at the relax pool & I've forgotten the gents name at the animation pool running around after us, such god sends, keeping us all hydrated & well looked after.
All the restaurant staff we're fabulous & nothing was ever to much trouble for them. We ate in all the different restaurants each night & each one offered us it's own special ambiance & magical dining experience. Fusion was it's normal exquisite self, with Mamoud running a tight ship & speaking better English than us!!! He's such a character & our evenings in there we're top notch, we really we're spoilt & very well looked after, the fusion chef is by far the best chef there, every meal was astounding, THANKYOU.
Fajita restaurant was again full of Mediterranean delights & a relaxed, fun atmosphere. Tiger mixed a beautiful G & T in there for us & constantly made us giggle, along with Mohamed. It was nice that you could choose your own level of spice to suit your own palette, always a lovely meal in there.
The same with the Olive restaurant, it was lush, hosting a typical Italian feel, with rich, bold Italian flavours. The staff in there again we're lovely & very attentive, one in particular who also worked at cliff, was fab & took the time to help teach us some Egyptian words, such a lovely man.
Both buffet restaurants we're outstanding, offering a huge selection of gorgeous foods from around the world, there was always something for everyone in there. The sweets we're out of this world & plentiful. Couldn't moan about a single thing regarding the food, or the food hygiene in this hotel.

THANKYOU so much everyone for making our second visit truly memorable & fun, making us hungrier than ever to come back again!! Loves & hugs xxx

We arrived back this morning after a weeks holiday at The Grand Hotel.
I was worried about the hotel before we arrived due to reading bad reviews on here. But I was over the moon when we arrived to find out how lovely the hotel was!
Beautiful grounds, lovely pools - we stayed by the animation pool for the majority of the days we spent at the hotel, there was a lot going on - we loved joining in with water volleyball, water polo and aqua aerobics every day!
Nice to have the choice between restaurants for meals. Fusion, Caribbean and Fajitas being our favourites! The breakfast buffet is pretty standard, nice to have eggs cooked in front of you (omelettes, poached, fried).
We were worried about rooms since reading reviews but the room was what we needed - kingsize bed and a good shower. we were in a good location too.. near all of the main areas but could not hear any music at night.. we were in room 339. Although rooms are pretty dark and could be updated we didn't spend much time in our room at all - so many other things to do!
It was great to see such a variety of people holidaying at the hotel, we made many good friends. I was also worried it would be a Russian dominated hotel - but there seemed to be more English!! We didn't have any problem at all with the Russian guests!
The staff are very polite and friendly and always on hand to help! There are additional costs on menus for some foods - but its just giving more options, there are all inclusive options at every restaurant, the additional costs are clearly stated on all menus.
Overall we would return to this hotel as we really enjoyed our stay!

Room Tip: Block 27 is a good location to be near everything
