“Wonderful family holiday”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 22 June 2014

We recently came back from the grand and all I can say is we were overwhelmed by how welcoming the staff were, nothing was to much for them and having a 3yr old and 10month old in our party was a relief.
Their is a lot of stairs but this was clearly indicated before we booked so didn't bother us. The pools were clean and we'll laid out between bars and restaurants and perfect depth for little ones, their was no need to keep going to bars as waiter service around all pools.
The rooms we had were spacious and clean we email hotel before arriving to ask for a cot in our room and to be close to my mum and my son's room and to our surprise we were put in a family room with an a joining room to them at no extra cost, the house keeping was fantastic and my son enjoyed coming in each day to animals made out of towels left for him.
The restaurants were all good, the fusion being our favourite and the main restaurant next lots of choice in main restaurant and a lot of the food was prepared freshly their my son really enjoyed the pasta made in front of him, though new toasters wouldn't go a miss for breakfast buffet as the ones their are not that hot and always a cue. The cliff top was one of our favourites for lunch as the view was so beautiful.
We couldn't have eaten more if we tried and a place for everyone here more lively pools for the youngsters and a quiet place to hide by the pool with a good book to as the the grand hotel is huge.
The snorkeling was amazing and a must do!
We really enjoyed our holiday and will be returning as the value for money was excellent all the staff were lovely and made huge fuss over our boys which is what you want when travelling with babies.
We did get the deli belly but the pharmacy was excellent and after a few days of tablets felt better and didn't spoil our holiday. We found a small to to the staff sped up service and for what you get was worth the tip to!

This was our fourth holiday at the Grand. We have had a great 12 days and can only say how much we enjoyed ourselves again. Food, service, friendly helpful staff everywhere. We have to mention Mahmoud and "George" in the Fusion restaurant, excellent service and always a laugh. We love these guys, they are a one off and nothing is too much trouble. Our waiter, Ahmed in the Reef was always very attentive and looked after us every morning at breakfast. Any queries we had were admirably dealt with promptly by Dee and her staff. We hope to return in October and look forward to seeing everyone again.

This is the first review I have ever written on a holiday but my partner and I felt this hotel deserved a review.

After booking the Grand Hotel on a last minute booking based on good reviews we were disappointed to see bad reviews the day after based on the food and rooms of the hotel.

When we arrived we were offered light refreshments and given information regarding the hotel. We were then walked to our room by one of the bell boys. Two minutes later we had a tap on the door to find our suitcases had been delivered by a second bell boy.

We found our room to be very clean and tidy, albeit a little dated but nothing I wouldn't have expected. After all, we weren't paying Savoy, London prices. The room was cleaned on a daily basis and clean towels were replaced daily. The cleaner left some amazing towel displays on the bed - nice touch.

The grounds and numerous pools were kept immaculately clean and the grounds staff were extremely pleasant and always had a joke with us or greeted us with a smile and a "hello, how are you"?

Ahmed the pool attendant was very funny and we always stopped and chatted. Drinks were delivered to our sun loungers almost every ten minutes if required.

Breakfast was all on a buffet style service and was basic but enough for us. Eggs, omelettes, toast, croissants and other sweet pastries.

Locations for lunch were a plenty and the choice was, ok. We never got bored of the selections but we were only here for a week. There were salads, burgers, chips, pizzas, sandwiches, etc, on offer in most of the lunch time spots. The ice cream, crepe and waffle bars are also great for a sweet treat.

There are plenty of choices for dinner, either an informal buffet or al a carte options are available. Book these in the morning the day before and you should have no trouble. We only ate at two of the al a carte restaurants: Olive and Fusion. Olive was an Italian restaurant which I hate to say we were extremely disappointed in. Fusion however was great. Mahmoud and naserre were hilarious. Mahmoud really did make our meal good fun and took huge pride in running Fusion. Red wine flowed like water and we booked up with some newly acquired friends to return a second time. The steak fillet is lovely!! If the management are reading this review, these two guys are an asset to your hotel.

Must also mention Attea in the bar for bringing us drink after drink literally after you take your last mouthful. Superb service.

We heard that a couple of guests became ill, and one of which was a friend we met. I would advise while in Egypt you do not brush your teeth with the tap water, always use hand sanitiser after handing money - actually just on a regular basis and you should be fine. Like in any foreign country just be careful! Put plenty of sun cream on regularly as it reached 44 degrees while we visited and be sensible.

Something I was unaware of when we booked; the dress code for dinner and lunch. So here's the heads up. Gents: Beach wear for lunch is fine as long as you have a top on. Ladies: a suitable beach dress or top. You can't sit in a bikini.
As for dinner, they note in places that trousers and shirts should be worn but after wearing this the first night, I noticed smart shorts and tee shirts are acceptable too.

Both my partner and I were not ill during or after the holiday. Make sure you use hand sanitiser after handling money, etc, and you'll be fine!

What a fabulous hotel this is. I stayed for the first two weeks in June 2014 and I will definately be going back. The staff were amazing , second to none. They just could not do enough for you... and this coming from someone who has stayed at the Burj Al Arab 7 star in Dubai. Ok, the hotel wasn't up to the Burj, but the Grand as a whole... it can't be beaten. The food was good, the room was clean, the staff were amazing... I will be back!! Vicki

Upon arrival at your beautiful hotel on the 25th May 2014, we were very disappointed at the reception we received from the staff, it was very unwelcoming and after a long flight awaiting us was a stale croissant which just doesn’t cut it.
The next night we had no electric for 2 hours which the staff were very slow to resolve the problem causing us to miss our dinner reservation at one of the al a cart restaurants meaning we had to eat at the buffet restaurant which was not a nice experience, the food was most certainly not fresh.
Tuesday night we went to dinner at 1915-1930, arrived back to our room at 2125 to find that our cameras, stereo and iPod had been stolen, somebody had been in our room during our time at dinner, been through our things, including my girlfriends underwear and taken our personal belongings. After contacting the reception, the desk manager, security manager and housekeeping manager came into our room asking us both lots of questions, then searched our room, routing through our belongings and yet again my girlfriends underwear, she has never felt so violated. My partner was most distraught as all our diving footage and photos were on these cameras our memories all gone!!
The desk manager told us that there is no proof our things had been stolen and refused to call the police, considering that the only way to access our rooms was a key card, which the desk manager mentioned that only we and the cleaning staff had a copy of the card. We then had to wait an hour for the desk manager to come back with a man to read the door access device, to download to there computer to see if anybody else had entered the room between those times. We were then asked to write a statement, which you have, a copy of from the hotel. A meeting was arranged for the next day with the desk manager to go through the door access results. After a sleepless night the desk manager showed us the results which were not correct at all, they looked like they were manually altered, times were different, they didn’t match times we had entered the room and the sequences didn’t match either, reading 1,2,3,3,3,6, and 7, which looks very bizarre indeed. Requested speaking to the general manager and they passed me onto the front of desk manager, who was very reluctant for me to keep the print out, but I insisted. After all that had happened we didn’t feel very safe and secure in our room so requested a room change, they offered us a room on the outskirts of the grounds of the hotel which wasn’t acceptable at all, on that note we had thought about changing hotels, as they were not very welcoming, security well there was none and staff being so rude and obnoxious, not helpful at all. We explained this to both the managers and they didn’t seem to care. We said we were not happy with the room and can we move to another one, which there response was we need to pay for it. Both really very distraught, angry and upset we requested our rep from Red Sea Holidays, he arrived an hour or two later with very much the same attitude as the managers, saying that if you cannot blame anyone there is no proof. After a very long and painful conversation with the rep he finally agrees to help by organising a meeting with the travel police the next day, being Friday, but not at the hotel. We also told him we wanted to move rooms, and he said the same that we would have to pay!!! Also spoke to him about a Cairo trip we had booked in advance, he told us that the Cairo attractions were shut there were no trips at all. We went with a different company and surprise surprise they were all open. A very very unhelpful man, not as rep should be, and by this point we had then missed our dinner reservation again, the desk manager rang the restaurant and his response was no problem, go down to the restaurant it will be fine. So we did and got turned away, yet again resorting to having to eat in the buffet restaurant.
On Friday we met with the RSH rep at 1100am as requested by him, being told then that it was their Egyptian holiday, praying day, meaning that the travel police will be shut all day. He then requested that we go later that evening at 2100, met up with him at that time, then telling us that he wasn’t coming with us, but another rep who didn’t know the situation, so we then had to go through everything again. Both reps telling us we need to say we lost our items, not got them stolen because we would end up spending the rest of our holiday with the police, we were both very confused by what was being said, due to lack of knowledge on the matter of Egyptian laws went along with it. We also spoke to several members of staff customer relations (English) they all told us to tell the police that our belongings were lost. My expectations for them being English and have a level of understanding that they would be helpful, but they were not. Leaving the hotel we were told to catch a taxi, we questioned should the hotel be paying for this and sorting the transport out, which their response was “No it’s not the hotels problem” so therefore costing us more money! So another night ruined being sat at the police station for 2 hours.
Throughout this horrendous week we both got very ill starting Wednesday, by Saturday we were very ill indeed with an upset stomach and severe diarrhoea. On having this the hotel seemed to have ran out of toilet paper, none in our rooms when they had cleaned and made bed and none in the public toilets which were all very dirty anyway. We had asked reception 3 times over two hours for some which is not pleasant when you’re ill. As advised by your staff we went to the pharmacy costing us £40 for medication. Following this we are still very ill with same symptoms, stomach cramps as well now having to take time off work when we got back to the UK.
The facilities were dirty and unhygienic, broken glass lying around which was there the whole week we were there, and leaking toilets. Staff rude, aggressive and unfriendly, several times witnessed aggressive arguments amongst staff members in from of guests around the grounds of the hotel and even in the restaurants.
We felt unsafe, unwelcome and frustrated; we don’t expect this type of treatment from any hotel let alone a 5 star hotel. This holiday for us was a huge deal as we are both single parents and spending a lot of money was not done likely this was a once and a life time opportunity for us and our dream was completely shattered by your hotel! We are appalled and disgusted with the way this hotel is being run and the way we have been treated by the staff.

Dave and Amy

Recently returned from a fabulous two weeks at The Grand. Even better than last year. The guest relations' team couldn't do enough for you, thanks Dee, Sha and Leny, you are a credit to the hotel. Ahmed at the relax pool certainly knows how to look after his guests, really great guy, charming, funny and polite. Mahmoud in The Fuison was also brilliant, the chocolate desert was to die for! Lobster and risotto dishes were also wonderful. Look forward to another visit as soon as we can, but maybe next year though. Thank you all for making our stay so enjoyable and relaxing. we have just returned from our 2nd stay at the grand hotel and once again we were blown away with how amazing the hotel is,
The grounds are beautiful and there are 8 pools to choose from, we mostly stayed down the second pool which the animation team were based, we had so much fun taking part in most of the activities the staff where fabulous a big shout out to Emily and Chris who really made our holiday (thankyou).
the choice of food is great with so many places to dine, with 2 buffet and 5 a la carte restaurants there is something for everybody (my favourite being the Mexican) but all where great.
the evening entertainment was cheesy but really fun and loved every night, the fire show was amazing.
All the staff where brilliant and could not do enough for you from the pool guys (Ahmed Ragab and Sobhy) to Atia in the bar.
I would like the thank Dee, Leny and Sha for everything...love you guys.
We love this hotel and can't go go back (hoping for october) and i would recommend it to anyone trust me you will love it.
