“Beautiful grounds and pools”
Reviewed 8 July 2014

Overall it was good value for money and the gardens and pool areas were spotless and well maintained. The best points in my opinion were, staff were great, Osama the pool attendant by block 14 was hard working and always polite, running around offering drinks and keeping the area clean. Ahmed in the cliff bar was again fantastic, polite chatty tireless and ran rings around the other staff. Rooms, we were placed in a standard room first which was OKish, but seemed dark and had Mosquitos. On the first morning we requested an upgrade, £34 per night, and got a pool and sea view junior suite which was clean light airy with a fantastic view and no mozzies, worth every penny, you pay your money and take your pick! Drinks on all inc were usual own brand stuff OK for a a package at that price. Food in the Fusion was very good, also the Mexican and the cliff bar lunch was great, we also paid for the seafood meal as extra one night I the cliff top bar, again gradations food. The reef bar was good for a quiet breakfast and evening drink if you want a quiet spot. The main buffet was the let down and the reason for an average score. Better food there would make this hotel good or even great. Poor choice if you arrived an hour after opening time, food was bland (as opposed to tasting bad), not very warm, service slow and often you seemed to be sat in a corridor with other guests passing your table all the time. Free WIFI in the lobby??? Never got a connection. So in summary, great for the price, try and book the other restaurants every night if you can, pay for an upgrade to a sea view room and you will enjoy your stay

Me and my partner have just arrived back from a week long stay at the grand hotel. All the staff are friendly and cannot do enough to help although the second day an expensive and sentimental piece of jewellery (ring) had been taken from our room. The hotel management does not seem in the slightest bit bothered and unwilling to help in this matter! We are both absolutely fuming. Stay away if you want your possessions safe!

Now on with our stay. The room we were given initially was nothing more than a room that you would expect in a 1 star hotel in Poland. The room was grubby, hadn't been painted in years, tiles hanging of the walls, floor tiles missing, mucky shower curtain etc. After complaining we were showed to another room which was miles better but was still someway off what you would expect in a 5 star hotel. Bathroom was gross, old and rusty shower looked like it hadn't been cleaned in ages.
Not much choice for food in the Buffet restaurants but the food in the other restaurants was edible. Lots of extra charge items including all drinks at one of the restaurants. Towels are not fresh everyday as you would expect - the maid merely folds the wet ones left on the floor back up.

Not what you would expect and we sure won't be going again! Pick somewhere else

We have recently returned from our second two week stay at the Grand Hotel and it was just as great this time!
Do not take any notice of the negative reviews; this really is an oasis and I will go through separately the areas that we loved the best. To ensure that this is a fair review I will also mention the very few negatives about this hotel.

The Gardens
The hotel is architecturally very pleasing, spread out over a tiered hillside site with absolutely fabulous tropical plants, trees and flowers including frangipani, hibiscus, palms and bougainvillaea.
The gardens are tended beautifully by a team of gardeners and really are an oasis.

Swimming Pools
There are about 8 pools, all with individual characters so there is something for everyone, eg a relaxing pool with waterfall, a pool with small beach, one with sunbeds in the pool itself with a canopy, an animation pool with activities such as water polo and aqua fit. All the pools are spotlessly clean and are staffed by extremely hard working pool assistants especially Osama. They will bring you drinks all day as you relax on your sunbed and under your umbrella - of which there are plenty, so it is never a problem finding a private spot. All the pools are surrounded by exotic flowers and lush plants.

The Coral Reef and fabulous Snorkelling
This is one of the hotel's greatest assets. It is a deep reef, accessed by two jettys. The variety of fish is absolutely incredible, with angel fish, parrot fish, lion fish, and dozens of others too numerous to mention. It is a paradise for a keen snorkeller. The coral is also good with a range of colours and in the main is undamaged.
The beach has lots of sunbeds surrounded by palm trees and is a short jump into the warmest sea I have ever been in!
Note because of the depth of the water it is not perhaps suitable for very young children or for those people who are not strong swimmers, but this applies to all reef snorkelling off Sharm.

Restaurants
A wide range with something for everyone. Our favourite was the Sharm as this offered the greatest range of freshly cooked and prepared food, with outstanding desserts intricately styled by the chefs. One of our daughters loved the Olive for the italian food and the other daughter Fusion for the style and service especially from mohammed the manager.

The Rooms
The rooms are large, airy and spotless. We had two rooms and they were thoroughly cleaned every single day by our fabulous Housekeeper Hani. He was amazing and we had crisp clean white sheets and pillowcases every day on the bed and fresh towels in the bathroom, or made into animals with flowers.
The room furniture is not perhaps 5 star as we are used to in the UK but for me the cleanliness was most important, and to be honest, we were only in the room to change and shower in he double shower before dinner. The balcony is large with table and chairs for two, and our rooms had the most fantastic sea views, framed by the luxuriant foliage and flowers.

Bar areas
Our favourite was the Reef, as this was quiet, with excellent service, and views from the Terrace towards Tiran Island. However, if you like a more lively night the top terrace bar has a very busy bar with lots going on.
The animation team put on various shows in the evening in the open top venue, and there is also an adult only shisha bar.

The Staff
This is another huge bonus for this hotel. The deputy manager Dee is an absolute legend; she is very professional and does her rounds every day to check on her guests and ensure that any little issues are sorted out promptly. Nothing is too much trouble.
All the teams are magnificent, from the Reception staff, Waiters, chefs, gardeners, crepe chef, pool guys, housekeepers, maintenance, etc.

The Hotel Doctor

We had to see the doctor due to us picking up something from a trip outside the Hotel.

Dr Rafik was extremely kind, professional and thorough. He understood English perfectly, which made it so much easier to explain our symptoms, but perhaps more importantly, he summed up our treatment plan in English to ensure that we received the correct medication and understood what he was doing.

We felt extremely well looked after.

In fact, Dr Rafik was outstanding; he is not only a huge asset the hotel but to the whole of Sharm.

Thank you.

Overall

The Grand Hotel is an oasis in Sharm for its outstanding staff, reef, gardens, and feeling of peace and tranquility.

Room Tip: We were in block 7 near to the Reef, pools and snorkelling. Great for breakfast in the morning and t...

Absolutely beautiful hotel. It was my second visit to this hotel and again I was not disappointed.
The staff are exceptionally wonderful; so polite, welcoming and helpful. Extremely efficient in their job roles.
We had fresh towels in our room everyday, the bed linen was changed frequently, the food was fantastic but particularly so due to myself and my sister being vegetarian, we let the catering manager, Mohamed Fawzi, know we were vegetarian and he catered for our needs as individual guests every day.
Mohamed Fawzi is an absolute credit to this hotel and if you're planning to go on holiday to this hotel, it is a must for you to meet him. I have never come across a man as genuine and caring as him, not anywhere.

Overall I feel the hotel has fantastic standards of service, cleanliness/hygiene, food and guest care. Wonderful place and I will be returning.

This is the 3rd time we have returned to this hotel in 6 months, and it won't be our last! We were made to feel so welcome from the minute we checked in, to the coach picking us up on our last day. Transfers take approx 20 minutes, prompt professional service with lots of information given.
We requested the same room as our previous visits and this was granted, no problem. All the staff recognised us and made us feel really special. Duty manager Dee, and guest relations manager Lenny are truly special people. Nothing is too much trouble, they sit and spend time with you every day taking time out of their busy schedules.
There are about six al a carte restaurants to choose from which you can book in reception, availability no problem. We had not booked one on one evening and Dee arranged for the Fish restaurant to open especially for us, and it was so special. All the restaurants are well worth a visit as well (which we did).
The grounds are superbly kept by the tireless gardeners. Many pools to choose from, quiet areas if that's what you want, to full on animation pool if that's your thing.
Naama bay is not too far away for a change of scenery (about £5) in a taxi. Nice restaurants and shops to browse.
Overall, there is nothing to not like about this hotel and we really can't understand the negative comments. We would highly recommend the Grand, so much so, friends of ours have booked for August......Us? Well, we will be back in December, and cannot wait!

Room Tip: We always book Block 34 which is central to everything.

I spent a week at The Grand Hotel with my friend, the hotel and grounds were beautiful. It was lovely and quiet (In June) and so many choices of pools! Snorkelling in the Red Sea off the jetty was amazing with so many fish to see! The staff were helpful especially Linda from guest relations, and the bar staff often brang us drinks beside the pool and we particularly enjoyed how the cleaner decorated our beds each day with a new design! The only criticism I would have is the hassel we got from the Egyptian men during our stay, I feel that this was due to us being two girls so would perhaps reccomend not going on a girly holiday here! Other than that a beautiful hotel and enjoyable stay!

I simply cannot sit back and not warn other people of spending their hard earned cash to go to this hotel. We went in May 2014 and after checking in, we asked to be moved to another hotel. The Manager although very sweet just kept apologising and saying "I understand, sorry". I can list; no light bulbs in bedroom lamps, open bathroom drains, toilet seat falling off, terrible plumbing, in edible and stale food, wading through puddles of water in restaurant, plaster falling off walls, dirty bedlinen, dirty glasses, no ice in drinks, chairs repaired with stuffing coming out, cracked marble stairs and tables, dirty table linen and crockery as a few of the points I can mention but it would take too long to write an in depth review. I DO NOT understand the good reviews and am baffled by them!! Do not say you haven't been warned.
