........Ahmed Fathy for reception and Ramadan Ali for Concierge!!!! Any minor issues in the hotel were outweighed by the excellent service from both of these top guys - Helpful, Informative, Caring, Funny and all round hospitality professionals!! These gents made the hotel 7*!!!

Also, Ayman is one of the friendliest chefs I have ever met and properly makes the best Omelette I have ever tasted....A true believer in service with a smile!!!

In the evening I would say be open minded try it even if it does not look that nice I promise you will be surprised! I personally loved the food as did many others I spoke with. Standing out for me in the evening was the Ex Pastry Chef - Didn't get his name but always really polite!

Nabil is a legend with a massive smile and a great friendly barman - I heard some Russians shouting at him for something that was not his fault!! After this he was working during the night and he was missed!!

The last few nights Abdel returned from Cairo on the bar and again - Great guy and true pro!

I would say give it a try. Don't expect the Ritz just yet but in time they will get close to it! especially if the employee more staff like Ahmed, Ramadan, Nabil, Ayman (Chef) and Abdel

Location not the best but manageable with Taxies, Ideal location for relaxation and meeting great people also for the best nice sleeps with amazing beds, bedding and pillows.

Hope you give it a try if you are looking for a relaxing holiday in a fresh, friendly hotel you won't be disappointed - though remember it is not a party holiday!

Just return from a weeks stay at the Sol Y Mar in Sharm el sheikh, for a last miniute booking and being my first trip to Egypt, all i can say it could not of been better, Hotel is great, after a 6hr flight its only a 5 min transfer, so if your on a shuttle, you will be the first stop. Hotel is new and the rooms are fine, Ended up with a pool room, which is a hop skip and a jump and your in, Rooms a little smaller than those on levels 1 and 2 but the bathrooms are bigger. Beds are top. Sat tv only has BBC news and FOX movies, Rooms serviced everyday. Staff are great and my tip for an all inclusive deal is tip the staff when you arrive not when you leave, The service will be carry on thru the week, The food i thought was great, salads chicken, beef and fish also. A great choice for a week, maybe after 14days may of been a bit of same old, same old. Tip the guys on the terrace and you'll have your own table all week, Bartenters at the pool bar and upstairs tip also, they will bring drinks to you all the time, no waiting. Not a kids hotel more of a couples, away from the beach which requires a shuttle bus, If you want a week away from it all, i could not fault it. Weather was top. only downside was the evening entertainment, was too bob, sing-a-longs and pub quizzes, not my thing, So all in all pretty good, My top tip is to TIP when you arrive ... Thats it

I got back from this hotel on 14 march after a 7 day stay. We were a party of four. On arrival at the hotel we were given twin too
s when we had booked doubles, this took over a day to sort out and delayed us settling in. We were struck at once by the intermittent and somtime heave inducing stench of drains/sewage. Rooms modern and clean, food ok samey at times and the meat service was very stingy noticed flies on the food a lot! Staff mostly helpful some lovely nabil , young ahmed , pools guys, some grumpy barman in snack bar often served young girls in bikinis prior to anyone else regardless how long they had been there! Bar service and seating somtimes difficult to get no fault of the hard working bar staff like nabil. The real shocker came on 5th day of our hold when we were awoken by sewage coming out of our toilet and the drain left room to find most others on our level all flooded by the foul water, also noticed raw sewage tampons etc flowing into the pool ! We were given an alternative room to sleep in and the mess was cleaned no real apology tho, were given a fruit plate and free late check out but no sorry which was a shame , coulnt face using the pool for the rest of the holiday one member of out party sick on day 5 all of us by the time we got home very Nasty bug waiting results from dr would return to Egypt but would be far more carefully with hotel choice

This was our fifth visit to Egypt (first to Sol Y Mar) so we have a feel for the standard of service generally offered in their four and five star hotels: We also remember our first visit and how taken we were with the mainly excellent service provided by staff. We were not disappointed on this trip. The staff, from the cleaners, pool staff and waiters, to the reception staff, chefs and managers were keen to make our stay as comfortable and trouble-free as possible.
So, what were our impressions of the hotel? The food was acceptable and edible and certainly no worse than the majority of all-inclusives. Our digestive systems were fine during our stay, and we did not hear of anyone having any problems. The room was well appointed with a super-king bed and good air conditioning. Having only opened at the end of 2009, everything was still quite new, but we were disappointed to find so many things unfinished. Three examples were: The poolside Jacuzzi was under repair for our first three days; workmen were busy cutting and fitting wooden banisters to the metal stair-rails and the marble floor of the lobby bar was being skimmed and an epoxy finish applied (overnight) which meant that the reception area was full of fumes first thing in the morning. I would expect that sometime soon these ‘finishing touches’ will be completed so they should not impact most future travellers. However, there are certain points that will affect every client. The hotel is literally five minutes from the airport but its name is a bit of a stretch of the imagination. It is roughly two miles from the sea; certainly not within walking distance and they provide a 15-seat courtesy bus at 8:00, 9:30, 11:00 and 12:00. There are plenty of pool beds, so you should never need to ‘reserve’ one. The design of the hotel around the swimming pool is like a circular amphitheatre but I would imagine that in the height of the summer when temperatures are around 45°C that there will be little respite from the heat. The hotel’s situation is remote so, if you like to promenade in the evenings or enjoy some nightlife, you will need to either use a taxi or the hotel’s transport (roughly £5 GB return) to go down to Naama bay.
In summary, we would rate this hotel as a three star plus tourist hotel and while we enjoyed a relaxing week at the Sol Y Mar Sharks Bay, we are unlikely to return. We would only recommend this hotel to those holidaymakers who are committed pool junkies, given the number of hotels in the Sharm area that are on the beach.

Stayed at the hotel for 7 nights, upon arrival it was dark so couldnt really work out where we were but the hotel was fabulous, the reception area is just like it is in the photographs. Check in was really efficient and we were shown to our room on the top floor straight away, our cases were brought up within about 5 mins. The bed was huge with the best pillows ever. The bathroom was on the small side but had everthing you needed, extractor fan didnt seem to work though so got quite stuffy at times after a long shower. Balcony was spacious, really nice to chill out late afternoon watching the sun go down.
The pool area is really nice, beds around the side of the pool and an island in the middle which did appear to be a little crowded. There is a snack bar by the pool which serves pizza, chips & burgers at lunchtime if you dont want to go into the main restaurant. You dont get hassled by anyone although there is people wandering around selling english papers & magazines. There is a place to get a massage but only got asked once if I wanted one. It was nice to lay there and not get disturbed all the time like you do at the sister hotel when you go to the beach.
The hotel is out the way of everything and on a main road so difficult to get about, taxi's are needed to go anywhere unless you have a death wish as there is no pavements on the roads. The hotel is right by the airport so on the plus side it only takes you about 5 mins to get there but you can hear the planes when they land and take off. Going back to the airport it takes you ages as you seem to be the first to be picked up and you have to go round all the hotels picking everyone up but its nice to see what other places look like.
The hotel provides a free shuttle bus to the Jaz Belvedere which goes about 4/5 times a day, make sure you get outside early enough as the bus only seats around 15 people and may leave early. The shuttle bus to naama bay is 38le each return but if you wish to go to the old market you would have to get a taxi from the hotel which is 160le return for 4 passengers or you could walk to the end of the hotel outside and pick up a local cab and try your luck at agreeing a price with the locals.
There was always something to eat in the restaurant of an evening but didnt appear to be much choice, maybe I've just been spolit in previous hotels but being that the hotel is small you wouldnt expect a massive restaurant. The waiters were pleasant and brought drinks to your tables and cleared up the dirty plates straight away.
The bar upstairs could really do with a bigger seating area, sometimes it was really cold inside with the air con on and outside you struggled to get a seat so didnt see much of the evening animation.
Nabil is a star, always a massive smile on his face dispite working very long hours. Very attentive and would serve you before the russians if you were at the bar, sometimes he would just tell you to sit down and bring the drinks over. The other bar staff were still friendly but didnt stand out like Nabil, they were all under alot of pressure and occasionally ran out of glasses but we never had to wait long for this to be rectified.
You have to check out by 12noon but you can keep your all inclusive bracelet and still use all the facilities and have use of another room to get showered in.
I would recommed this hotel and would look to return, Thomsons are going to be the only english travel operator in the hotel from april 2010. There isnt much really for children so this could put some people off but is an excellent base for couples.

Stayed here from the 6-13th March.
Good points
Nice, clean hotel . Good for relaxing. Not too noisy .Staff. Animation team . swimming pool and jacuzzi (operational for the last 2 days)
Average
Food , generous but not very varied. Different "themed nights" but the food remains the same". After 4 days was getting tired.
Not so good
At busy times (hotel was full) bit of a scramble finding a clean table. Staff try but are understaffed.
Shuttle bus to the beach- totally inadequate. Russians feel queue jumping is their birth right. bloody rude !
