“Good Hotel, Staff Amazing”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 3 September 2014

We have recently returned from a fantastic 8 nights at the Royal Grand Sharm Hotel. On arrival at the hotel as we arrived fairly close to midnight we were offered the late dinner which looked more like the leftovers from the buffet meal earlier on. After this we were shown to our room which to be fair was a little small, but a warning to people booking room upgrades all of the rooms are the same size (apart from suites & president suites). The swimming pools were lovely their were 3 pools:
Main Pool (with pool bar)
Relaxing Pool
Heated Pool

The buffet restaurant got a little repetatuve after a few days but one of the very few complaints we had were of the A La Carte Restaurant 'La Seppia' because the food tasted like it had just been microwaved rather than being cooked fresh which was a bit disappointing. However it was the staff that really made this hotel, they just couldn't do enough for you. I would also like to mention a few in particular:

Coco from the animation team and Mohammed from the buffet restaurant waiters!

We had a very good stay at the Royal Grand Sharm Hotel and I would recommend it to any family

Dear Alex H,

Thank you for taking time to post a review for our hotel.

As a hotel we serve a variety of foods daily to cater for all palates thus sometimes seeming repetitive, but with many nationalities visiting the hotel we try to ensure all guests are catered for. Aiming to serve food for late arrivals is always a must for us, but should it not be to your likeing then a complimentary fresh sandwich box can always be made available upon request.
Apologies again for your dissappointing meal in our A La carte. As previously explained to you it is most uncommon for our guests to give us negative feedback in this restaurant, but your comments are appreciated and feedback has been passed to our exec chef.

But great news that you had a fantastic holiday, and we wish to see you all again soon.

Best Regards.

We stayed in June 2013 for 2 weeks.
The hotel staff were very friendly and the entertainment throughout the day could not have been any nicer.
Great choice of foods between the main restaurant and the pool restaurant.

Room Tip: No wifi in the room but you could pay for it in the lobby.

5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 1 September 2014

We recently spent just over two weeks at the Royal Grand Sharm and we thoroughly enjoyed our experience. We have been to Egypt 16 times now and this holiday did not disappoint us.

Location- Great for us as it was a little different to usual. The beach terraces were all nicely kept clean and tidy. Easy to walk from the pool and to the beach jetty.

Snorkelling - amazing, best I have seen in Egypt, a large variety of fish and great corals. Jetty was difficult to cope with at times which put off some of our family members from walking down it but I thought it was great.

Hotel facilities - plenty of facilities to suit all age groups. Bar was very small but we didn't really use that. It was difficult to find a seat outside at night but we managed. Very hot outside at night.

Animation - during our stay there were two sets of animation, both very different but equally as good. The first team - Rico, Mody and Alex were great. The second team - Momo outshone his team, however the rest of the team improved day by day and I am sure they will offer a great service in time. Momo was there to please and made our children's stay memorable. He couldn't do enough for them. Plenty of day time activities and evening entertainment not only by the hotel animation team but also a singer each night, which you don't always get in Egyptian hotels. Momo has great ideas and I am sure he will put these to fruition in the coming weeks.

Guest relations - Sharen was excellent, we had a problem with pigeons (I won't bore you to death) she got it sorted and gave us much more than required.

Food - main buffet restaurant was fine, not the best, but certainly not the worst. Limanda was quiet and we preferred to eat in there instead of the large restaurant. The Italian restaurant served good food and we tried different meals and all were equally as good as the others. The best restaurant for us though was the pool restaurant. The food was always excellent and there was plenty of choice, however the highlight was being given the cold facecloth as you sat down. Very refreshing. Amr and Eslam were by far the best waiters, together with Fekry who always made our lunchtimes enjoyable.

Pool bar - there were a wide range of drinks including plenty of cocktails to try. Asking for a surprise remained our favourites. The pool bar attendants made our stay very special. They always had a smile and worked incredibly hard all day long. Waleed Talaat and Hosam Ibrahim were wonderful and we miss them dearly.

Pool - pool men were excellent, together with the man who sprayed rose water all over us each day, a MUST in the August heat. We even had our sunglasses cleaned whilst we were in the pool.

Staff - in general we didn't come across anyone who didn't offer good customer service, which is amazing when you think of the hours they work and the temperatures they work in. Even the life guard on the jetty spoke every day.

Rooms - the rooms were fine and always clean and quite spacious.

A great choice of hotel for a wonderful relaxing holiday.

4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 30 August 2014

My family and I travelled to Egypt between 7th and 21st August and it was the best holiday that I have ever had. It was not perfect, but that really did not matter in the end.
To begin with, the transfer from the bus that dropped us off to our rooms with the bags was smooth and the hotel layout was explained to us whilst we were given our wrist bands (yellow bands mean ultra all inclusive and this is what you want). The same can be said for when we left. The bell boy collected our bags from our room at 12pm and happily waited for an additional 5 minutes whilst we grabbed our last few bits together. Our luggage was then stored in the secure luggage room until we were picked up and took our bags from the room to the bus so that we did not have to worry about it. They were brilliant in all of the transfers.
The room itself was clean and spacious. We had a room with a king bed and a single bed but the single bed did not have a duvet on it when we arrived only a sheet. However, a very quick call to house keeping not only meant we had a duvet for the single bed, but extra pillows and they made the bed up for us even though we were willing to do it. The beds were made every day and our towels changed everyday. The only issue we had with the house keeping is that despite being very tidy, they were not very forthcoming with actual cleaning. It was only when we mentioned it to guest relations that our room had a proper clean and when they did it, it was fantastic but just a shame they did not do it more often. Thankfully, the rest of the hotel was lovely and clean.
The main restaurant could be a bit monotonous with the food on the inside buffet. However, outside of it, there are additional cooking stations that in the mornings made waffles, pancakes and omelettes and the young chef that makes the waffles and pancakes is lovely, and at lunch and dinner time, there are different meats and vegetables cooked in different ways, tagines and what we nicknamed Egyptian pizza (type of filled bread with mozzarella and vegetables) which became my favourite (along with the chef that makes them). There are two additional restaurants on the other side of the terrace to the main restaurant that are only open at dinner time. One is an 'Italian buffet' but it's not, they serve a more reduced buffet if what is in the main restaurant but get there early enough and it is really tasty. There is also the al la carte restaurant that if you have a yellow band, you get one free trip to per person and it is well worth it. You do have to book a table a few days in advanced and let them know a days before what your mains is but it is amazing food and the service is great. Down by the activities pool, which is in front of the main building, there is a pool bar restaurant that you can eat at for free with a yellow band and it is your typical English/ American food and again, it is delicious but you need to bag a table quickly as it fills up quickly. The pool bar is great in the main pool and serves a wide range of drinks (to which I would recommend the chocolate and strawberry milkshake), the beach bar seemed nice but it was at a different area of the resort so we didn't go there that much, the main indoor bar was also very good at night but unfortunately only one member of staff works in it at a very busy time and quite often was more interested in showing off to impress the girls rather than getting the customers served, even if it meant them missing 10 minutes of the show. There is also a small outdoor bar on the terrace that moves much faster and has a tea/ hot chocolate/ coffee machine that is self service and is great. The hotel charges you for your mini bar, but if you go to the main indoor bar before you go to bed, you can get as many 1.5l bottles of water as you like and us them in your room. Very good for drinking and cleaning your teeth might I add as you can't use Egyptian tap water to do this. For $25 you can also take part in a Bedouin night down on the beach on Monday and Thursdays and it is worth a visit. For that price you get amazing Egyptian food, drink and entertainment and the best service from the waiters (but more about them in a bit).
The entertainment in the evenings was good, but became very repetitive which was a shame. However, a new animations team took over whilst we were there and they mentioned changing the evening programmes so this may change soon so do not take my word for it that it will be the same in 4 weeks time, but just in case, take a deck of cards.
There is a large man made beach along the cliff top but there is a small natural beach that you can reach down a few steps and actually walk into the sea where your feet will be surrounded by fishes. This is because much of the coast line has a reef growing against it so many hotels do not have the luxury of even a small natural beach. However, they all have a floating jetty (including this hotel) that you can walk down and go swimming in the Red Sea and snorkel along as well. The fish that you will see along this particular section of reef are amazing and I would say better than the two snorkelling trips that I went on. If you do not have any snorkelling gear, you can hire it from the dive centre on the resort which is down by the jetty for a a reasonable price.
You can book trips through your on site reps, but i would recommend booking it through either Mohammed number 1 or dr meimo down on the beach. They will give you a brilliant price and treat you like family.
I would also recommend a facial booked through Sacha and massages booked through Bilal. They will give you the best price possible (although bartering helps) and will make sure the rest of your stay at the hotel is the best possible and will offer to do what they can for you and they stick to it. Sammy who is underneath the canopy on the beach does both real and henna tattoos is amazingly talented and even if you do not get one, his portfolio is worth a look.
A little tip for the bartering, when asked how many times you've been to Egypt, say at least five as it is easier to get a good price. Also, do not change your money up in England. They love English money there but if you want Egyptian, do it at the hotel as the currency exchange rate is over 12 Egyptian pounds to our of ours.
Finally, and most importantly, the staff. These guys made my holiday what it was. Those already mentioned in the extra bits that you can do are amazing but so are the ones that are actual hotel staff. They are the hardest working people I have ever met, but do it with a smile on their faces. Firstly both animation teams that were there during my stay were amazing, with special mention to Alex, ricco, moody and rhammy in the old one and momo and cocoa in the new one. Momo never stops running the show whilst Cocoa never stops moving and is always talking (he does amazing towel art work as well). They do something called club dance during the day and to finish the evening entertainment off with and it is the cheesiest, funniest, best thing to do. They run a variety of activities throughout the day for both adults and children and the aqua aerobics with cocoa is always full of fun as it was with Alex before him. Make sure you join in as it adds to the holiday. The animation team also make an effort to talk to you during the day and evening and make sure that you are enjoying yourself. Waleed in the pool bar and his colleague will make you the best drinks ever. The towel boys (one of which is Hema) are brilliant and laid our towels out for us every morning as we left our towel cards with them and were always friendly towards us, including frequently spraying us with this mist stuff to cool us down, which in over 40 degree heat was greatly appreciated. Just before the pool bar opens at 10am, the staff come round with bottles of water and will take your drinks order to keep you topped up throughout the day. Unfortunately, I didn't catch the main one that did its name but he was brilliant and worked with Amr Abo El Magd (more about him in a minute). The house keeping staff were all friendly as were all the shop staff (who are not pushy and will let you shop normally). The reception and guest relations staff were lovely as well and so friendly. The al la carte and Italian buffet staff are so friendly and helpful as well. In the main restaurant, they were all amazing but some stood out to us more than most. Hate, who did the room service was the first waiter we met on our first morning and made us feel so welcome that we never forgot him. Another Hatem who works on the main restaurant floor always made sure we were being served and had our drinks constantly topped up and finally our main waiter, Islam Mohamed. This is the man you want to serve you. He is friendly like they all are, but made sure we always had drinks, would remember what we drank in the mornings and at dinner time and always saved a table for us. We will always remember him and if you go and are looking out for him, he wears glasses and wears a blue shirt. Finally, the one member of staff that will always be close to my heart is Amr Abo El Magd. He really looked after my family and eye and made us feel like we were with a member of the family. He works unbelievably hard out in the sun all day by the pool in the pool restaurant and delivering drinks (he is also the one to see about the Bedouin night). If you go to the pool restaurant, he will also give you a freezing cold flannel which is the best thing since sliced bread in that heat. He is always smiling, always asking how you are and is always willing to have a laugh. He helped make this hotel a home from home. To be honest, all the staff and especially those mentioned who both work for the hotel and sell the extra stuff made us feel like we were at home. I always felt safe around them and was never worried, much like being around a huge extended family. Without these guys, this holiday would not have been the same and no where near as good. We did tip our waiters and the towel guys, but it was not expected but they were so grateful. As long as you smile and say hello, goodbye, please, thanks and even how are you, they will treat you like royalty. The staff are use to being treated like dirt by the Russians but as soon as they realise you know the concept of manners (which do not cost anything) you are their family. They still do their jobs properly for the Russians and remain professional despite how they are treated, but they make sure that you are treated as family as long as you show them common decency just by saying hello. Please do the same as they work so hard and deserve so much more than how the Russians treat them.
I do have to mention the Russians in the hotel as more of a warning than anything, there are lots of them and 99% are very very rude. I did not realise how rude until I saw it for myself despite reading the other reviews. As long as you can let it go and not get worked up about it, you'll enjoy yourself as they will not change and nothing you say or do will make them change. This is by no means a bad reflection on the hotel as it is not their fault, it's more just as a side note in case you have never experienced it before. All I can say it is a testament to the staffs patience.
This hotel may not be perfect, but who needs perfect when you are surrounded by sun, sea and people who started off as strangers but very quickly became friends who made us feel like family. Look last the bad reviews of the Russians, the food and even the slight need of updating, you make your holiday what it is. This hotel has all of the ingredients to make a brilliant holiday, and that is certainly what we had.
Thanks royal grand sharm and thank you to all of those mentioned. We have missed you for the last week and will continue to do so until our return.

Where do I start, our room was too small (1 bed for four people), we had to pay £250 to move to a room that could accomodate our family for the week. The toilets didn't flush (great when two of the party have chronic diarohea which I believe was from lack of hygiene) - When the toilet was fixed the first time it flooded, was repaired again and when we came back to the hotel our entire suite was flooded with water from the cistern that had been overflowing for at least 3 hours - this was just mopped up - no cleaning solution used.... (we're still only on day two at this point)!! The air conditioning leaked and was very noisy and smelly. Oh, and there are mice and cockroaches.... The kids club is never open and you can't get hold of a rep when you want one! I ended up on a drip and my 6 year old daughter had to have injections.... Someone pooed in the pool four days in a row and not once was the pool drained .... ummm, wonder why i got sick?!?!?!?
On the plus side, the bar staff, towel man and the restaurant staff are absolutely delightful and probably kept us sane!

Dear,SammiN75
Thank you for taking time to post a review for our hotel.
It is most important to achieve guest satisfaction and so I have passed on your concerns to relevant departments so that I can answer and respond to you directly.
Tour companies are informed that our hotel sells rooms which can accommodate four persons but states clearly that only 2+1 extra bed is made available, and we upgrades to suite accommodation at extra charge subject to availability.
In all of our bathrooms we place a bin and display a sign asking for no paper to be placed inside the toilet, this is because blockage occurs and can cause serious problems, such as the situation inside your room. The bathrooms in the hotel have a water spray available inside the toilet and also a separate bidet to ensure personal hygiene at the highest standard and any paper to be discarded inside the bin.
Air conditioning units are regularly maintained due to the 24hr supply sometimes required by our guests and of course noises or slight vapor does disperse, this can be resolved by an engineer visiting and repairing at your convenience.
Due to desert conditions cockroaches , lizards and small mice occasionally surface from underground in search of any food , however we maintain regular chemical spraying with pest control.
With almost 1000 guests of mixed nationalities staying in the hotel hygiene is of absolute importance, including individual personal hygiene… however, some guests seem to be unaware of this and the hotel has to follow a disinfection protocol which ensures the swimming pool is safe for all guests to use.
A decontamination procedure mixing higher chlorine and chemical concentrations may sometimes be required, and ensuring at the same time that the filtration system is operating the pool then reaches and maintains a proper chlorine concentration level. Backwashing the filter thoroughly after wards ensures effluent is discharged directly to the sewage network. Swimmers may return the pool after the chlorine level has returned to the normal operating range, which is monitored and recorded with regular inspections throughout the day. Water draining is out of question for more than 1300 cubic meter of water, if we dos so, it will take us almost 3 days to fill the pool again.
Kids club is operating 7 days a week. A notice board displaying all working times is located outside the kids club building and Reception and Guest Relation team members are always available for further advices or assistance if required.
We are deeply sorry that you got sick during your stay with us, after getting back to the hotel’s doctor and checking your records, we found out that you had an upset stomach caused by the very high heat which is always associated with high humidity, it took one day to be recovered
Finally we would like to thank you for your review and your kind words have been passed to the concerned departments, we hope that all your comments have been answered.

Best Regards.
