This is my second stay at this hotel. The rooms are very good and have fantastic beds! The Byblos bar now serve breakfast, however, on some days, this can change to the Gondala restaurant without informing the guests. The only issue we had with eating at the byblos bar was the flies, they were everywhere! The Gondala now has an A la carte menu which is good. However, the Gondala is NOT exclusive to the Royale guests, as stated in the welcome pack you receive. When we dined there, it was full of guests from the Sonesta Beach Club, and the Manager allowed this. We had paid for all inclusive, and should have just paid for room only as we could have eaten and drank for Free. There has been a change in Management at the Gondala, and I don't think for the better.
On our previous visit in December 2012, our room and bathroom was spotless at all times, but on this trip, when we arrived there were pubic hairs on the bathroom floor and 2 dead flies, which were there for at least 3 days. On one day, I returned to the room to fetch some sun cream, and found the cleaner using our toothbrush to clean the coffee mugs we used earlier that morning, NOT GOOD, maybe he also cleaned the sinks as well with the toothbrushes???. I think that we pulled a short straw with our cleaner, as I am sure that not all cleaners are like this.
Near the end of our trip, we went to the pool first thing and noticed that there was an area of sunbeds and tables 'cordoned' off and reserved? These were going to be for the Director of Sonesta, as he and his family were visiting for a few days. The sunbeds were not used, they had 6 tables that were reserved by their sunbeds, in the gondala restaurant they had a large table with table cloth (no other table has that), and from what we saw, it was not even used. On check out, there were plenty of sofa's, and we sat on one, whilst waiting for our transfer. We were asked to move, as it was reserved (there were no reserved sign on it), it was reserved for the Director's family, even though there we loads of other sofa's to chose from. We looked outside by the pool, and the family were in the pool. Very disappointed that the Director would allow their guests to be treated in this manner, like we were second class citizens. A lot of other guests also commented on this. We have only been to Egypt twice, and both times we stayed at the Royale Sonesta, but I don't think I would stay here again. The whole dining experience is mismanaged (you don't know where breakfast and lunch is being served from day to day), you are not allowed to order at the bar and take your food to your room, to escape the flies, not as clean as it was. As you are trying to sunbathe, you see the hotel staff showing guests round from the Sonesta Beach Club (3 star property), trying to sell them the idea of booking their next holiday to the Royale Sonesta (even though on some occasions it is very clear the the guests would not be interested). For the Director's of Sonesta to allow their paying guests to be treated like second class citizens is shameful. Unfortunately, I cannot recommend this property (even though some of the staff, were fantastic, such as the pool boy, but NOT our cleaner).

Dear David,

Thank you for your posted comments and do apologies for the inconvenience faced during your stay upon your arrival too find hairs & dead flies that remained for some time and not removed though strict high standards of cleaning throughout the hotel are maintained. Unfortunately this was an inevitable mistake that has been looked in to and handled to avoid a re-occurrence. I need just to clarify a minor issue of the toothbrush used during cleaning, that it is part of the cleaning kit to get to those hard areas mainly in the bathroom

Notifications were made to all guests either by letter or personal contact from our desk agents concerning the meals and location

Strict hygiene issue such as flies are enforced but due to open areas we try to combat as much as possible

We do follow strict exclusivity for la gondola guests yet we do allocate seating for our Tandoori guests in a different area and entrance, though guests may have entered from the same entrance of la gondola therefore causing a slight misunderstanding

Certain area maybe cordoned off for private use that is usually privately reserved for possible officials visits which are visibly marked and not inconveniencing the guests

Dining location was changed for the benefit of the guests to enjoy a wider variety of food

I hope that I have satisfactorily covered the issues posted and hope to see you again soon

Thank you

We stayed at Le Royale for 9 nights in September. We had been in contact with the hotel several times before arrival and our e mails were always answered promptly and professionally by Mr Messed, Front Office Manager. He was very helpful and accommodated our requests so we had high expectations before we arrived. We were not disappointed.

We didn't venture out of the hotel because we had everything we needed for a relaxing holiday. The hotel was spotlessly clean, the grounds immaculate and our room spacious, with the most comfortable bed and fantastic bathroom. We spent all day by one of 3 fantastic pools, lounging on very comfortable sun beds with cool drinks easily to hand at the pool bar. The food was good for an all inclusive hotel. We only went to the Citadel restaurant once for breakfast as we had enough choice at the pool bar, where we also had a lunch of cooked to order burgers and salad on a couple of days. We had our evening meal at La Gondola most evenings, where food is also cooked to order. The Indian food was exceptional. The seafood dinner on the beach was nice, if you go make sure you are hungry.

What really makes this hotel stand out is the staff. Everyone we came into contact with couldn't have been more friendly, helpful and polite. Particular mention must be made of

Osman and Mohammed at reception - always helpful and found time to have a chat
Beher, housekeeping manager - always checking standards, ensuring the hotel rooms and grounds were kept clean and tidy. Also arranged decorations in our room for a memorable birthday
Mohammed, housekeeper - kept our room clean and well stocked, very creative with the birthday decorations!
Ahmed, Ahmed, Fawzy & Hossan, pool bar staff - service with a smile, all the time
Ahman, pool man - great towel and sun bed service
Mohammed, bell hop - ready to help whenever needed

Thank you to you all for such a fantastic holiday experience. We will return.

We moved here after a week at the Sonesta Beach and to be honest I dont know how we stuck it out so long but that's another story.......

Anyway from the moment we were shown around the Le Royale we were sold, this is the best hotel we have stayed at in Sharm after 9 visits and almost as many hotels, you won't find better for the price on an all-inclusive basis

The complex is set around 3 stunning pools, all immaculately maintained with an ambiance to match, if your looking for cheesy disco pool music, people who come to practice shouting and aqua aerobics then I'm afraid this is not the place for you, try next door, you'll be most welcome

What this does offer is a place to relax, unwind and chill, there are no intrusions from people trying to sell you an afternoon with a camel, or indeed any other of Sharms charms, the other guest staying there easily bought into the place and we met an interesting mix of people there, the lady with the black eye, who like us seeked asylum from the Sonesta Beach next door and the lads from Jordan who were great entertainment

The star of the show however is Ahmed behind the bar, he and his assistant also called Ahmed really make the place what it is, with his trusty Chef Ibrahim they run a tight ship and provide real 7 star service 24 hours a day, Hosam works the night shift and is also a top man. This is what makes the difference and this is what sets it apart from the rest. If you take the time to get to know these guys then you will know what I mean. I would be disapointed if they are not there come March

Ok, the boring bit. Swim up room,
great, huge space, quality furnishing and a luxury bathroom to die for, well worth the extra and had the whole pool to ourselves, good for a midnight cool down, no last orders here!, the dedicated resturant at the Sonesta beach for Le Royale guests is ok but could be better, no atmosphere and a bit of a disapointment really, we chose to still eat in the Citadel where we found the choice of food and the service better but maybe that's just us.

The beach is a real mess and not worth visiting really, way too many sunbeds, the coral is all dead and the snorkelling is a waste of time, for that you need to go further up to Sharks Bay or further down to El Um Sid. The only good thing here is the '3rd' Ahmed the manger of the Sea Breeze bar, he's one of the many 'refugees' from Clive's clear out at the Sharks Bay Hilton... bad move Hilton, you should of cleared out Clive but that's their loss and the Sonesta's gain. He's the man who fixes things and in Egypt on holiday thats a big plus, been looking after us for years and hopefully for many more

So there you go, worth the upgrade? Undoubtably, would we go back? Yes, will you find peace and happy feelings.....shhhhh, keep it a secret!

Stayed at this hotel from 27th Sept to 4th October with my family. I can say from the moment you arrive until the moment you leave nothing is too much trouble. The restaurants for Le Royale guests are superb with a good range of cooked to order options.
The rooms were immaculate and very very clean as was the whole hotel throughout our stay.I have to say that I am not an all inclusive fan but this stay has converted me as I never felt the need to leave the hotel for any reason.
I would not hesitate returning or recommending this hotel to anyone.

We stayed here for 4 nights in Sept, it was awesome the staff are amazing, the Ahmed's who run the bar are just the coolest guys ever. We had so much fun with them and they know there drinks, they make you feel so welcome and are always happy. We got a room upgrade and it was huge overlooking the pool, spotless, clean with big fluffy towels and one of the biggest TV screen's i have seen in any hotel. The reception team are great, they know every guest by name and happy to help you with any excursions or suggestions on places to eat or go. The hotel has 3 pools and they are just fab, they look like the pools in the Versace villa in Miami, again huge big fluffy pool and beach towels and great service. The only thing be careful on the wet marble!.

Guests at the Le Royale can use the hotel next door and all the bars and restaurants and of course the beach, we ventured down there and even though they have a private place for Le Royale guests, it was a bit low rent for us so we stayed by the lush pools and pool bar, which is open 24 hours (we visited it in the early hours after a night in the casino next door to drown our sorrows). This is where you can have breakfast and snacks, if you want the full breakfast you have to go next door and that really is a BIG breakfast the food was great and so much choice)

We didn't eat in the hotel or next door we went out into the town, but there is a lot of choice from traditional Arabic to Indian and Italian and of course the buffet (not my kind of dining, but hey, the food did look great)

Well worth in terms of value and stay and looking forward to going back and trying out one of the hotel suites.

Room Tip: Jnr Suite overlooking the pools are amazing
