“Not 5 Star. But lovely holiday.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 8 March 2011

We were at the hotel in february for the half term week with the children. due to the troubles in Cairo most of the hotels facilities were closed. The food was VERY basic but edible! although was not able to try all the different restaurants as most were not open as short staffed due to the Cairo back lash, so cant fairly say what the food could be like. The staff are so very friendly. We found Breakfast was the best meal of the day as you could have your eggs cooked as you wanted. The rooms are very dated and could do with re-decorating but saying this you only use the room to shower and sleep in as you will use the hotels facilities i.e. Pools, beach and Bar! The Beach is lovely, again the food cooked on the beach very basic!! The pool is freezing so BEWARE, although it didn't stop our kids enjoying the water slide etc. Basically a very friendly hotel set in beautiful surroundings, in need of up-dating the interior in the rooms. A bit of hassle from the Spa/salon men to get you in for your hair and nails done, not worth the money really but they did their best! Great kids club if you want to relax and want the kids to have a play the girls that look after them are lovely. There is an indoor pool which was heated but not that warm! an indoor gym and 1 table tennis. Shops are in the hotel although not all were open as the hotel was running at half the staff due to the troubles, but am sure they would have been worth a look. Bear in mind the rooms being basic so your prepared, but am sure you will enjoy your stay as we did.

Spacious reception and grounds with very pleasant staff but would rate a 4 star not a 5.
We went at a time when other countries were not allowed to fly so it was mainly british at the hotel. As there were less than 100 of us many of the facilities were reduced.
However a relaxing time was achieved either around the hotel pool or at the beach.
Sea Magic formerly known as Pyramisa.

Positives:
The food for the main was clean and fresh. It was a bit samey generally beef, chicken, fish, vegetables, salad, potatoes and a pasta chef.
When the Italian opened it was similar food (not Italian food) but felt like a restaurant and the service and staff were superb. Such a friendly place to be and the best part of the resort.
The pool bar was a hub of activity and the barman worked hard to keep everyone happy.
The pool and pool area was kept clean and tidy.
Rooms were clean and fairly spacious.
Bottled water was provided in all the bars.
No illness or tummy bugs as you would often associate with Egypt.
Weather every day was approx 25 to 27 degrees, no rain.
Many multi coloured fish in the sea could be seen without the need for a snorkel.

Areas where some improvement could be made:
Beds were hard however housekeeping happy to help and change mattreses.
Bed linen at times was not as crisp as it could have been.
The main and only bar was often busy and sometimes took time to get served or a waiter. The waiters that were on duty worked very hard to keep up.
The bar allowed smoking and as a non smoker I found it hard to avoid the smoke. a seperate smoking area would have been nice.
The location of the singer in the bar did not allow people to mix or dance easily. A simple move of location would resolve this.
The female singer was good but a change in songs every evening would have been good.
The main pool although clean and large was unheated and freezing cold.
Ice cream was only available in the main bar for children for free. It would have been great to have ice cream included for all ages on the all inclusive and available from the pool and beach bars and in the restaurants at meal times.
The food at thebeach bar was not great and the area of the bar could have been kept cleaner.
A fixed lower price of treatments available in the SPA & beauty salon would have been better than the barter system used.
The all inclusive finished at 11pm when other hotels was up to 1am, the disco ideally would be better to be an extension to the hotel with all inclusive included.
There was no notification of events taking place nor of the reopening of any of the facilities, an area in reception updated daily would have been good.
A menu was put outside the main restauarant daily with themed nights, unfortunatley the food was not as described on these menus.

Negatives
It is such a shame that I have to mention reception as two of the reception staff were superb, efficient and nothing was too much trouble. One however was rude and clearly favoured non UK and males and to be tipped. The same person would serve people behind you and take the phone at the same time and make you wait unecessarily. Our check in process was really bad and took over 45 minutes then when we finally got to our room it was a double not a twin as booked. We then had to wait again whilst our twin room was cleaned. This is not want you want or expect after a long journey.

Only one room key is issued regardless of the number of people sharing a room.

Towel hut at the pool lost our towel cards which meant we had to keep towels and hand them back to reception at the end of the trip.

More Details Below, but these are my high/lowlights...
+ Great Spa
+ Beautiful Pool
+ Good location for both airport and town centre (10 mins from each)
- Dull Food
- Definitely not a 5* or 4* resort
- Poor Service

We went to Egypt a couple of weeks following the end of the political unrest in Cairo and other major cities. Since Sharm El Sheikh was not affected by the troubles, we decided to go as planned. Most other countries weren't flying to this area until the last few days of our trip so mostly the tourists were from the UK.

The hotel was pretty much minimising its' losses and had mothballed most of the restaurants, only one was open. This in itself isn't an issue as we weren't expecting the place to be running at 100% as it would in say late summer when the hotel would be full. The buffet restaurant was our choice for breakfast, lunch and dinner - they had themed menus but we struggled to notice any difference between the menus. French / Spanish / International / Mexican etc. consisted of fairly tasteless Rice, Chicken, Beef, Veg and Breads. Even with the smaller restaurants mothballed, surely chefs could have been rotated. Gutted that we missed out on the Shish, Aisian, Fusion and Indian cuisine.

The Service at this hotel is not 5*, not really 4* either. I did wonder if it was a cultural issue - i.e. perhaps Egypt doesn't have a strong service culture when compared to other destinations? Whilst we were there many of the staff were moaning that colleagues had been laid off and that it was too quiet at the hotel. Most staff were happy that planes were landing from Russia towards the end of the stay, particularly as this meant that there would be more money coming into the resort...you couldn't shake the feeling that they were going through the motions until more guests arrived. Unfortunately when they did arrive, on our last day, restaurants began to open, entertainment was arranged and suddenly the staff seemed interested again. This was infuriating as it just showed that good service could be delivered, they just couldn't be bothered. If you're interested, look up the PYRAMISA hotel, that is the former name of the rebranded resort.

Facilities. Air-con in the lobby area was adequate, rooms non-existent. Fabric of the hotel was disappointing also, poor build quality and no real finesse in tiling, fittings etc., the indoor pool was heated but next to a building site.

This was an average hotel. If you're looking for good value and great service, go somewhere else.

I've been back 3 days and missing it like mad. From what i can gather this hotel used to be called Pyramisa and was terrible, however now under new management so don't be put off by older reviews. The hotel was quite quiet due to the trouble in Cairo, however the hotel itself was lovely, great pools, although freezing. Staff were freindly and helpful.
The food was basic but not one egyptian tummy between myself or my friend. Because the hotel was so quiet (130 people with a 3000 capacity) not all the restaurants and entertainment were running, however this did not detract from a fantastic holiday and meeting lots of new freinds. I would definitely go back and i'm trying to book for 2 months time. Would definitely recommend it. Lastly close to all the nightlife in both Naama bay and Soho Square, and fantastic coral reef beach with such amazing fish

After reading the reviews on Sea Magic before we went there, we were a bit apprehensive, but we had no need to be, it is a fabulous resort, with excellent staff and facilities, we were throughout the revolution from the 7th Jan - 15th Feb, and even though the staff had to be reduced we were still given an excellent service. We have no hesitation in recommending this hotel and we hope to return again soon.

After checking out reviews after we had already booked, we were dubious about what to expect seen as the Pyramisa, taken over by Sea Magic recently, had terrible reviews. But we arrived with an open mind!

We were wowed as we arrived into the complex! It is HUGE! 3000 people capacity! 15 minute transfer from the airport, 1st drop off which was great in the middle of the day heat. We were told by others that a taxi should cost around 100-150 Egyptian pounds, so we did pay over the odds with our transfers but hey hindsight and all that!

Check in was quick and our luggage was taken to the room for us. The room was better than expected - we expected 2 singles and a sofa bed but we had a triple room which was fab. It was clean, the bathroom was clean and usable, the bath did have stains in the bottom but it was clean. The shower was a pain to use, the thermostat didnt seem to work properly, and it was a shower over a bath with a plunge switch to use the shower which we had to hold for 5 minutes before it stayed in the 'shower' position - but all in all we were impressed with the room. The fridge didnt work and the air con didnt work, so we reported it to our rep the following morning and the fridge was changed that day. The air con didnt get fixed for 4 days, and then it still wasnt working. The maintence came on the morning of our check out to fix it again, but it was too late, but never mind!

The descriptions we found of the hotel said it was directly onto the beach, when we ventured to the beach, we found that there was alot of steps, which wasnt a problem for us but would be for disabled or those with kids/buggies, which hadnt been mentioned before and I was suprised at the lack of lifts and ramps. The beach, we later found out, that has its own beach rather than small platforms on the side of a cliff, was further down the complex and had a shuttle bus from reception which took 10-15 minutes to get there.

There were plenty of bars dotted around the complex, and resturants, although, we went when there was only 135 people there, and capacity if 3000! It was great for us wanting a chilled out holiday but variety wasnt an option really. Great bar service at the pool bar, Mohammed was great and because it was quiet he remembered our drink choice and refilled without us having to ask! The gin, rum and vodka tastes the same but does the trick! The beer is nice, similar to peroni.

There were a few people trying to sell massages, beauty treatments, and other spa treatments. I did not have anything, but my friend had a pedicure which she enjoyed and wasn't too badly priced at 250 Egyptian and it took an hour. They did keep trying their luck but they have to try and make some money with it being so quiet!

The food was nice, breakfast was a bit random but lunch and dinner were nice. The fresh made pizza was gorgeous!!!

The only thing I will comment on is the blooming glass police!!!! The bar staff would not let us take our drinks back to our rooms without a cardboard cup! It was ridiculous - they would literally chase us down the corridor to get them back! And we couldnt even go from the resturant downstairs to the bar upstairs with our drinks! Not entierly sure why. Also, there wasnt any coffee facilities in the room. But that is the only complaint we had.

Maybe not a 5 star but definately a 4 star.

It was very quiet and that made our holiday, the Russians and Italians were pulled out early on in the rioting and started arriving back on day 6 of our holiday. I dont think we would have enjoyed the holiday as much if it was at full capacity but as it was we had a great time. Location was ideal for Naama Bay and Soho Square. I definately reccomment Za Za at Naama Bay if you want a night out, they have fire dancers, belly dancers and traditional Egyptian dancers throughout the evening, a large selection of shishas and a great cocktail menu and all resonably priced! The club on site was not included in the all inclusive, you had to pay for your drinks once in there, but you could just get a round in at the main bar (in plastic/cardboard cups) then take it over with you.

Me and my husband have just returned from the sea magic hotel where we stayed for 1 week, dont read all the bad reviews on here, the hotel is lovely with 5* facilities, the pools are fab, large with plenty of sunbeds, the wave pool was really good but due to the problems in other parts of egypt only british flights were going in so there were very few people around therefore 6 of the 7 restaurants were closed leaving little variety for food, however the quality of the food that was on offer was good but very repetative, only serving chicken and beef the whole week which was a little boring after a while. We would definately go back to this hotel providing the restaurants are all open. The staff are fantastic and could not do enough to help you and always smiling. Overall we had a lovely relaxing holiday which is what we went for, please make your own minds up we really enjoyed!!!
