We stayed at The Grand (great hotel) with Red Sea Holidays who also organised this trip for us with Destination Egypt. Costing 175 euros each it was great value for the day. Picked up at 4.15am by mini bus with one other pick up, 5 of us in our group taken to Sharm airport with Red Sea rep. Flew to Cairo in just under an hour at sunrise, so great views in a 50 seater twin propellor plane which was fun. Met at airport by another Red Sea rep who escorted us to our mini bus to meet our fantastic guide Gouda and driver. We went to Egyptian museum first, an hour with very knowledgable Gouda & an hour on our own to wander around with some recommendations from Gouda, what a wonderful place. Plenty of stops to take photos of historic buildings, a visit to the papyrus factory with opportunity to buy great pics then on to a restaurant for lunch which was ok.
On to Giza with the magnificent pyramids & sphinx what a sight the engineering involved in constructing these buildings is too difficult to imagine. One of the seven wonders ticked off the list. Just say no thanks to the hawkers and continue to move on, no need to be rude as we heard some people being. Having a great guide really added value to this visit. We then went on visit to a perfumery and essential oils out let, plenty of deals to be done here. We also visited an Egyptian cotton outlet store on the way back to the airport. Egyptian driving in Cairo is something you won't to experience very often but with a driver we felt safe throughout, whilst in one of the outlets he had ice creams waiting for us on our return, which was so thoughtful.
We were taken to the airport and awaited our flight back to Sharm at dusk, met Red Sea rep there who returned us to our hotels by mini bus arriving back at hotel about 9.15pm
Our great guide Gouda really made this excursion for us and also the friendliness of our driver sorry can't remember his name. Cairo is a city of 22 million people and nothing like Sharm so be prepared for the shock of the real Egypt which isn't always pretty.
A great value trip, would recommend.
