We had our wedding ceremony at The Sultan Gardens hotel on 4th November 2011 and stayed at the hotel from 31s Oct – 7th Nov. 33 guests travelled to the hotel from the UK to spend the week with us solely on our recommendation. As expected the guests were blown away by the service the hotel provided them and the fantastic personal touches that each and every one of them received from the staff.
Rooms – the hotel effortlessly dealt with the accommodation requests and booking alterations for 35 guests ensuring that people were grouped together as they wished and according to their room requirements. Every guest had a sea view and had nothing but praise for the attentive cleaning staff and contents/layout of the room.
Food – I have always liked the food at this hotel but this week I was so impressed with the variety and flavour of each meal. I think this was partly due to the fact that we were very hungry most days due to how busy we had been planning the wedding but it was also honestly the best food we’ve eaten on our trips to Sharm. I can also honestly say that neither me or my husband had the slightest suggestion of an iffy tummy and we ate everything on offer. I highly recommend the Oriental night with freshly carved Shwarma kebabs….. heaven. The food at the wedding was heavenly. The head chef Ahmed was there personally to make sure that everything was to our satisfaction and ready on time. I have never seen so many beautifully prepared dishes. Delicious.
Recreation – we didn’t see many of the shows as we were often busy with our guests but we saw the Chinese circus act one night and they are a definite must-see. The animation team were fantastic all week and were also very involved in the music and entertainment for the wedding. They opened the disco for me to have a hen-do one night before the wedding and played any song we wanted. As per usual they couldn’t do enough for us and had such pride in everything they did. I must say a massive thanks to Sam who chaperoned the boys into Naama Bay for the stag do and took them to the best places as well as making sure they weren’t ripped off. Her belly dancing classes are fantastic and the impromptu one during the wedding disco went down a storm.
The whole week was utterly wonderful and the wedding itself was like a fairy tale; the hotel couldn’t do enough for us and did everything we asked for and more to make the day run smoothly, seamlessly and just as we dreamed.
It actually does still feel like a dream that it went so perfectly and we keep looking through the photos and the video and noticing new things every time. The setting was perfect, the food was amazing and the atmosphere was second to none.
We had the ceremony on the cliff top lawn at the far left of the coast owned by the hotel. We had white chairs with purple satin bows, a huge wedding arch covered in purple and white flowers and all overlooking the sae and Tiran Island. What a setting! We then moved down to what used to be the Bedouin area just below the Tiran beach bar for the reception. This was converted into 4 separate areas; a dance floor, the dining area, a Bedouin style section with seats, cushions, canapés and an endless flow of cocktails plus a beautifully decorated area where the cake was displayed and belly dancers performed. Mr Ashraf sung for our wedding party before and after dinner and got us all up on our feet, the perfect start to the disco. We also had our own private entertainment programme with various regional dances, belly dancers and my favourite the tanoura (whirly gig).
Every single guest commented to us in person that they have never been to a wedding as fantastic as ours. Yes this was partly due to our ideas and drive, but it was mainly down to the staff and the personal touches they added with great pride.
I actually did a speech at the wedding where I thanked some of the key players from the hotel team. I have to say again that Mr Ihab A. Rady the hotel manager and Mr Ramadan the food and beverage manager are an absolute asset to the hotel and guided and supported us the throughout the whole event from our many trips out there to lay the plans right up to the day itself. In my speech I referred to the ‘swan theory’ – the swan is graceful and steady, gliding along the surface of the water, yet below her feet are paddling furiously, sometimes getting caught in the reeds. The Sultan Gardens has perfected the art of the swan; the staff never seemed stressed or rushed and always have time for the guests yet behind the scenes they are working like mad to ensure the guests have the experience they deserve.
There a many individuals that I must also mention but this list is my no means exhuastive;
Mr Hany the bar mananger – always a huge smile on his face.
Mr Ehab (with the small glasses) – so sweet and kind, so keen to please all the guests.
Mohammed from the quiet pool – he is like a magnet, drawing all of our guests to the pool each day to hear his stories and jokes. He managed to keep the whole pool stocked with sun beds, sun shades, tables and towels with a smile constantly on his face. As the sun went down a few of us would grab a beer and sit for a few hours talking to Mohammed. He provided us with towels to wrap ourselves in as a ‘mossy’ defence and this was one of our favourite times of the day as the other guests had already returned to their rooms and we sat in the dark just chatting and relaxing. Mohammed is an absolute asset to this hotel. He even came to the wedding dinner and did magic tricks for the guests whilst they ate.
Aslam from the quiet pool bar – Aslam is hilarious. Last time we visited he was having English lessons each day and with great amusement told us new words he had learned. ‘Umbrellaaaaaaaa’. He knew what all of our guests liked to drink within a few days and I’m pretty sure he’d never made so many sodas with no ice before.
Ehab (bobbus) – I am not sure where he works now, he used to be in the fish restaurant but seemed to be everywhere during our wedding week. He is such a funny man and also very charming. He was allowed to delay his vacation just so he could wait at our wedding and as usual kept the guests entertained.
Emad the porter – we met Emad on our previous 2 visits to the hotel when he was a pool attendant. He has since been promoted to a porter because he is so polite, friendly and smart. Emad is another very funny and friendly guy
Medhat from the reception bar – this guy worked so hard at the wedding making the chairs and tables look amazing and then waiting the tables. Very quiet and polite.
Ahmed – boss at Al Shelal pool bar – this guy was very proud to serve the top table at our wedding. He is so friendly and makes every guest feel welcome and looked after.
Even thought I have listed a few members of staff individually we cannot thank the WHOLE hotel enough for the hard work, dedication and pride that they put into creating our dream wedding. It was a pleasure getting to know all the team and sharing the creation together.
There are undoubtedly many things that I have forgotten to mention in this review. All I can say is that this hotel should be in the top 3 in Sharm El Sheikh because I have never been to such an amazing, welcoming place. It really does feel like home. Mr Basel, we salute you.
