“Fab hotel for a diving holiday”
Reviewed 19 July 2013

The rooms are basic but everything works... the bathroom has a strong shower , the air con gets everything cool quickly and the double doors onto the balcony did a fantastic job of making the room soundproofed from the bustle of Sharm and the nightclub just along the strip could not be heard. Housekeeping came in daily and everything was kept nice and clean. This is obviously not a 5 star castle, but it is an excellent standard for the price.
Having the dive centre on site was also very useful and the team were there till late if you wanted to discuss arrangements for the next day. There was a bit of a walk down to the busy jetty for boarding the boat but the dive kit was delivered there for you so it wasn't an issue. And it was a very nice touch to be able to chil out back at the dive centre with a cold glass of sakara knowing your room was just a few steps away.
There is also a great camel rooftop bar with good food and drinks to be purchased and happy hour starting just as you get back from the boat. I think our group was there every night for a drink or two as it had such a great atmosphere.
The hotel also has free wifi which was a little slow due to the heavy traffic from all the guests but can't complain as its a great perk to keep in touch with the world while your away.
The Beach is also a short walk, but on the non diving days at the end of the holiday we chose to frequent the quiet pool at the hotel. This was pretty peaceful (I guess not many kids at a dive orientated hotel) and I have to admit I found a nice spot in the kids pool to read my book as i personally wilt in the 35-40 degree heat. There were some good sunbeds and parasols available around the pool too.
And Sharm itself with its restaurants and shops in just on the doorstep.
All in all a great hotel to use as a base for a diving holiday. I would be happy to return here.

The room was shabby and needed painting. The air conditioning was noisy and dripping water. The bathroom shower broke, although they did fix it. There were bare wires in my room. The dive sites were busy and uninteresting. After 2 days diving, and 6 hours after lunching on their boat I developed a terrible case of food poisoning which lasted a week. I spoke to their operations manager who was disinterested and said everybody who came to Egypt became ill. Best of luck.

Dear Paul

Thank you for your comments and we're sorry to hear that you did not enjoy your stay in Sharm. We have passed on your feedback to the departments concerned so that they may take appropriate action where needed, to address the points that you raised.

We're really sorry to hear that you became ill during your trip, and hope that you recovered quickly once back home. While it's certainly not the case that everyone who visits Egypt becomes ill, it is notoriously difficult to pinpoint the source of a stomach bug as it can take up to 48 hours or more before symptoms appear. We did not have other guests joining our boats that week who reported similar problems, however, we fully understand your disappointment at having to miss some of your dives, although it's great that you still managed to complete your PADI Nitrox Specialty course with us during your holiday.

We highly recommend to all travellers taking extra precautions including drinking plenty of water, to reduce the chance of a stomach upset spoiling the holiday. Particularly when diving, it's easy to become dehydrated in our 40C+ summer temperatures, which can make it more likely to pick up a bug.

Regarding the problems you reported with your room, we would always recommend bringing any problem to the attention of our staff so that we may take immediate action to rectify any issue, so we're pleased to hear that you managed to do this satisfactorily in the case of your shower.

Thanks again for your feedback, and we wish you happy diving.

What can I say, once again we had a wonderful time with all the friends we have made (staff and guests) over the years and on our many return visits to camel.
The hotel and dive centre are well run, clean, professional and very friendly. The onsite bars and restaurants are very good. The hotel is well situated in the middle of Naama bay. You can stay there for a family holiday, but it is predominately a hotel used by divers, so the bigger all inclusive hotels may be your thing if bringing the family and you are not divers. If you are a going solo, you will not feel lonely. Everyone is so friendly, you arrive as a customer but leave as a friend. And trust me, once you have been to camel once, you will return, it gets under your skin.
We always feel special and looked after by the hotel and dive centre staff.
We have such a laugh and the diving is a new experience every time and totally amazing.
If you are wary of going over there because of the political issues, don't be. There is a real feel good factor in Sharm from the locals and we felt very welcome.
Well done once again to everyone at Camel for giving us a brilliant holiday :-D

Room Tip: We normally stay in room 217 or 218, which is upstairs overlooking the pool. If you are disabled, th...

I have now stayed at Camel about 8 times I think. I stay there as part of a group specifically for the diving they offer. The group gets bigger every time because we always meet new friends. I have said before that whilst you could stay at this hotel if you were not intending to dive, Camel is primarily about the diving experience and having won Dive Centre of the Year last year and come a close second this year (that's the world ranking by the way) you might want to consider carefully especially if as part of your Egyptian experience you really want to wear one of those fashionable "all inclusive" plastic bracelets all week. Not at Camel. Rooms here are cleaned every day. Luxurious?...no.....but far better than basic. A place to sleep comfortably on a large bed with functional air-con and a bathroom big enough to swing a camel in....definitely. (No animals were hurt in this experiment). Lovely clean pool. It often has divers in it. Three or four places to eat on site including a Tandoori restaurant. Three bars including the world famous roof bar.

However, it is the people who make Camel the place to which customers return time and again. If I named everyone I'd be into a 10,000 word dissertation but every one of them, from the guys who clean the pool and tend the flower beds down to the dive professionals, goes out of his way to make sure that you are having the best time you can have.

Camel is the epitome of how a diving operation should be run. It is as simple as that. Just brilliant guys. Thank you very much.

I stayed at the hotel as part of a diving group and found the hotel offered everything we needed. We were originally given a double room (2 girls sharing) which really smelt but after speaking to the staff, we were immediately moved to a clean, twin bed room. The rooms are equipped with a safe, TV and fridge, ensuite etc. In fact the only thing not provided is a hairdryer but considering the heat, we didn't need one anyway!

The hotel would be great for friends/couples looking for a beach/pool holiday becasue the hotel pool is empty during the day as everyone is diving but has restaurants and bars as part of the mini complex. There is also free wifi (although at times was a little slow).

I would definitely go back and stay here as value for money is brilliant. The buffet breakfast wasn't amazing but then we didn't pay for an amazing breakfast. The dive club is on site and we found them to be very professional and friendly.

Room Tip: I think all rooms face the pool but we were on the first floor which meant we had a balcony.

Thanks a lot for your feedback, and it's great to hear that you enjoyed your stay at Camel while travelling within a group.
We are sorry to hear that the room which was initially assigned needed to be changed and also we apologies about the glitches of the wifi connection, which we are currently working to improve. We also passed your comments about the breakfast to our chefs, who mainly have to satisfy requests of healthy and nourishing choices for very hungry divers!
We're really pleased that you highlight most of the pros of staying at Camel both for individuals and for groups. Being divers ourselves we focus in providing everything we believe is essential for a perfect diving holiday experience, which starts at the airport when we come and pick you up and continues at our diving centre, onboard our boats, in our hotel rooms and at our Bar and restaurants –all in one place!
Thanks again on behalf of the whole team, and we look forward to welcoming you at Camel on a future visit.

It was a perfect week! Everything was great, a all in one service. Hotel, Restaurant, Bar and Dive Center. We had to organize nothing, it was really enjoyable and relaxing. Great Diving in the Red Sea. We went to the Thistlegorm, Dahab, Street of Tiran, Ras Mohammed and the Dunraven. It was all perfectly organized. I will come back once!
