We visited Sharm in the first week of february. We always book self catering holidays and the apartment/set up/location looked impressive on paper. When we arrived we quickly checked-in and the Receptionist was very friendly with good english. It started to go out of kilter as we were ferried to a one-bedroom apartment on the ground floor - whereas i had booked a 2 bedroom apartment with balcony. When we checked the apartment there was no MWO, oven or freezer - jusy a hob and a kettle. There were no pots and pans either - these were delivered 15 minutes later after i complained.
The apartment was spacious but needs to be refurbished. The hotel location is right next to the beach - down 60+steps, so not much good for the elderly, or handicapped. The Restaurant was located on the beach and was good - the staff in particular were really friendly and happy. There were some shops - surfing and knick knacks and tow supermarkets. Well the sign said Supermarket, but they did not sell meat, fish, vegetables & fruit - only soft drinks and crisps/snacks. SBO is fairly isolated between Naam Bay and Nabq with smart hotels with private beaches. We like to walk but unfortunately you cannot walk along the beach - private hotels with guards - and there is no promernade - only wasteland.
The water is fantastic with beautiful deep water, accessed by bailey bridges over the coral. If you're a scuba diver, you will be in heaven.
We had days out to the Old Market - not worth then £15 taxi fare and added Naam Bay, which i would describe as the Blackpool of the area. At least they had beer - which is non-existent at SBO. if i ever decide to go again i would stock up with duty free on the a/c.Taxi fare back is £10. Nabq is more up-market with a great promenade and decent restaurants.
Theres a bit of a rip off re airport taxis - you end up paying £20-£25 for a 4-5 mile journey and when i complained i was informed that the taxi drivers add an Airport charge to the fare - which i determined is not the case.
Lovely weather 25-27c most days
