“All round winner”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 12 January 2013

We booked this hotel on a recommendation based on it being next to Savoy square with its many restaurants, bars and amenities. As this was a last minute booking to get away for the New Year and some winter sun we were looking to stay in the same place with lots around, it therefore fitted the bill perfectly. On arrival at the airport we were met by the hotels courtesy private car (pre booked) and within fifteen minutes of leaving the airport were checked through reception and being guided to our room. Our room (Garden View) was about as far away as you could be but was no more than a five to seven minutes walk from reception, the pool or the square. I suspect the pool or sea view rooms would be closer. The room itself was very spacious though the lighting was VERY poor, the en-suite was relatively cramped with no bath (which may be relevant for children). Its rated as five star and whilst I would agree with that rating for the hotel itself, the room though is not, that does not mean the room was bad, far from it, just an observation.
The very reasonable published prices included breakfast. To go all inclusive (S Class) it was a further £70 pp which on the face of sounds expensive but was, for us, actually superb value for money. The restaurants are truly excepentional with L'Entrecote, Hot Rocks (Both steak), Rosmarinos (Italian) & Seafood Island being the pick of the bunch. There must be a dozen restaurants to choose from and we did'nt try them all. Lunch at Seafood Island is very special, its got a great outlook as well as excellent Lobster (with a minimal surcharge) and Grilled Prawns. We didn't try all the restaurants but did try three of the Asian ones Zen, Mai Thai & the pick of the them, Eest.
The inclusive drinks were an excellent range with most of the brands you'd expect available with the package. Included wine was Egyptian, i'm a bit of a wine snob, but it was actually very drinkable. If you are not all inclusive and go for an international wine expect to pay about £60 a bottle, and at that price it makes good sense to go all inc. If you intend not to go all inc check out the prices as it is not cheap, meal with wine around £40 ahead, spirit with mixer about £7, so similar to London prices.
On a negative, My daughter is 16 so happy to sit and wait for service which can be very slow, if I had a young family this would have been a significant problem, but if like us your meal is the main event of the evening you wont be disappointed.
There were also numerous other things included in the S Class package like, Spa session, Tennis, Ice-Skating, Laundry, etc, most of which we didn’t use.
I got the impression the hotel was relatively quiet as we didn’t struggle to find loungers by the pool or beach even late morning. It seemed that mainly Russians congregated at the beach and the Brits by the pool (that was my impression), On a negative the Bar service on the beach was poor, it was very slow and the staff did not reflect the high quality of those in the rest of the hotel, we only spent the first day on the beach, maybe we just had a bad experience.
In summary we will book again, what better recommendation can there be.

we stayed at the Savoy in Sharm in November 2012 for 1 week.
It was our 3rd visit. The first 2 were so good it encouraged us to return. It has taken me a while to decide to write this review, since we returned somewhat disappointed.

Firstly check in. Few things more important even on return to a hotel. We had asked the travel agent to request a non ground floor pool side room. He did so some 6 weeks before we arrived at the hotel. But 3 days before we arrived, I phoned the hotel direct to ensure that they had received the request and all was in order. The front desk agent assured me that my request was noted.

We arrived and no upper floor room was available. My wife is nervous about security having been disturbed in a ground floor room by a burglar (NOT at the Savoy and Not in Sharm), so it was not an frivolous request. The Savoy says that it cannot guarantee the choice of room location, well if it purports to be a 5* hotel, it should especially for returning guests.

We sat for upwards of half an hour while the front desk tried to sort it out. In the end we were given a sea view room. Now it was dark when we arrived, and in the morning we saw that the room was at the periphery of the hotel, and the next property was (what else) a building site with diggers and dust.

So back to the front desk. The hotel was of course full. A large business meeting contributed. We could not move rooms until the following day.

The following day we were moved to an excellent first floor pool side room. I think pool side rooms are the nicest in the hotel.

Later in the week we were invited to the managers cocktail party and talked to the front desk manager who was relatively new in the job. He listened, and I hope he took my issues on board. I have to say, though at check out the front desk agent did not look a happy bunny. He would not say a word to me and did not meet my eye once. (come on chaps, this is supposed to be a 5 star hotel).

Service

The Restaurant waiters are very friendly, albeit somewhat inept at times, it does not detract from the enjoyment, but lots of little cock ups which are to a certain extent caused by language problems do tend to become annoying. Time after time I would love to have left a decent tip, knowing that they probably rely on tips, but it seemed inappropriate because of mistakes during the meal.

service at the piano bar was also poor. A wait of 10 minutes for a waiter to arrive was the norm.

All other service was outstanding, beach pool etc.

I would say that there are not enough loungers at the beach. It's not helped by the guests from the Sierra encroaching onto the Savoy area, not a big issue, but on one occasion, in desperation I sat on the Royal Savoy section of beach and was smartly relocated.

Food

Generally excellent. The Fish restaurant and the Italian are especially good. The buffet restaurant offers a very good variety of food. We were on the all inclusive tariff and ate once in the Steak House in Soho Square. In terms of waiter service the Savoy could learn a few lessons. It is what I would expect the Savoy to be like. The food and drink are excellent also.

Breakfast in the hotel is a buffet. Food is fine, but the waiter we had seemed a bit manuel ish. Ask for coffee and he brought a pot, then went, but did not bring milk. Sounds trivial, but after the 3rd occasion.......

The good

Excellent rooms, lots of comfort around the pool and on the beach, the pool par is especially good as are the waiters there.

Good food generally, good wine and soft drinks. Free bottles of water (it matters).

The bad

Well the front desk...
inconsistent service

We returned for the second year running to stay at the Savoy for New Year. We booked two interconnecting sea view rooms in the Hibiscus block which were great and much better than the Family Rooms which tend to be at the back of the resort away from the pools.

Clearly we had a fab holiday last year, hence the reason we decided to come back. However, the staff were nowhere near as attentive and they appear to have cut back on the amount of staff they have working at the hotel. Soho Square seems to have gone a little downmarket too - the shops have changed and dont have the variety they had before. The S-Class all Inclusive Package is still good value and the guys who work around the pool are still just as great.

The main problem for us was that smoking is allowed everywere except the Tirana Buffet Restaurant (however most English would not use this for evening meal as the food appeared to more suited to Eastern European tastes). Unfortunately more or less every meal was spoilt by the vast majority of people smoking (non smokers appeared to be in the minority). The cigarettes were incredibly strong and unfortunately even when you are sat outside the smoke was incredibly overpowering.

I would have thought that in this day and age they would (and quite easily could) have separate non smoking areas in all restaurants.

I am not a particularly health conscious tree hugger but when I go for a meal with my young children I do not want to smell the stench of other peoples incredibly potent cigarettes!

Room Tip: Rooms starting with a 1, 2 or 3 are in the best location!

My husband, my 2- year old son and I have stayed in Savoy- Sharm El Sheikh on the beginning of December 2012 after cheking -out from a horrible near -by hotel, Island View Resort.
Apart from Island View Resort which is only 100 m away, Savoy provides great service from the minute you check- in until checking- out. We had half board that was worth every penny- there is even a sushi bar in the evening! The staff was really polite and helpfull- they even gave my son a few toys during the meals to occupy him a bit- that helped! We had a nice room on the ground floor that was great for my kid- no worries about steps- he played all the time outside on the lawn. Every day or two a charming guy from the room cleaning would came to bring us the chocolates and to see if everything is OK...
The beach is really, really nice and it's not crowded at all - it's suitable for toddlers because of the shallow water. If you like snorkling, there is a small pier leading to the coral reef...
All in all, we had no reason to give this hotel less then 5* - from the amazing, huge pools, beautiful lawns and flowers, great food and staff- who can wish for more?

Room Tip: Rooms on the ground floor are excellent from small kids- no stairs, great lawn to play on.

This was our first holiday abroad at Christmas and we chose the Savoy because the reviews looked great & we wanted a bit of luxury R&R after a busy year. We opted for the bed and breakfast basis after doing the maths and working out that the all inclusive (or S class) wouldn't be value for money if we wanted a few early nights rather than partying til the early hours!
So, initial impressions were ok - we were allocated a twin room initially but asked to be moved to a king (we were told that most rooms in the hotel are twins). The room was clean & a decent size but pretty average, certainly not on a par with a 5* hotel in the UK and not as nice as we expected given the price we'd paid. The balcony was large enough for a sofa and a table but was never in the sun. We also had to pay for wifi which was irritating. But the worst bit was the noise-there is music pumped out of speakers all day and late into the night-the lights in the hotel corridors are also speakers, playing loud music. And because we were at the front of the hotel, you can hear the noise from Soho square-I had to use earplugs to sleep. The hotel was doing renovations so it was noisy by the pool and there appears to be a new hotel being built next door so it was incredibly noisy on the beach - diggers, JCBs etc.
The facilities are mixed-3 nice pools although one of these wasn't heated as expected until a guest made a real fuss with the management and the hotel then heated the pool. The beach was nice, great snorkelling from the jetty. We did a speedboat snorkelling trip with the hotel crew and they were brilliant. The spa is tired looking but the treatments were fabulous. The gym had most of the usual kit but nothing special.
As for food and restaurants, we ate the breakfast buffet in the Tirana restaurant. Although there was a massive selection of cooked fayre (altho no pork products) and bread, cakes etc., the quality was pretty poor. The restaurant was always busy and the 'hot' food was luke warm, the cereal selection was limited and the fresh fruit was limited to melon, orange and grapefruit. There was scope to have omelettes cooked to order but these weren't great. The poolside snack bar was poor but the seafood restaurant was better (for seafood, not anything else). We also tried the Italian restaurant, this was very good. In Soho square, the steak house is excellent and the teppanyaki is also good. So overall, nowhere near what we were hoping for. Overpriced.
The only other tip is don't bother with Naama Bay-it's 100 times worse than Blackpool-all tatty souvenirs and neon lights but you are hassled constantly.

Room Tip: Ask for a room at the back of the hotel

Everything was excellent and clean. Very good location just near the Soho Square. The food absolutely gorgeous and it was hard to eat in every single restaurant from the offer:))) The only thing i didn't like was a lack of wi-fi connection.

Good trip just before Christmas. It's not perfect- there's no Wifi in hotel rooms and that there is in the reception area is costly and unreliable. Occasionally the finish on certain aspects of the decor etc are not what you'd expect for 5 star, and the electrical goods, namely the TV are a bit dated. But that's all the negative bits done.

On the positives;

Staff AMAZINGLY helpful polite knowledgeable and friendly.
Food excellent in all the different restaurants
Spotlessly clean
Beautiful pool areas and gardens
Great bedding and furnishings and bathroom/shower etc.
Quiet.

Would recommend the hotel, and would go again.

Room Tip: Doesn't matter if you're not pool side.
