Reviewed 21 June 2013

I find it difficult to review this hotel without repeating much of what's already been said. It really is a fantastic hotel with an addedl unusual twist. Firstly and most importantly, you must book S class (all inclusive). This entitles to eat in any one of the 5 restaurants in the hotel and 13 restaurants in Soho Square (owned by and part of the Savoy Htl complex). The restaurants are superb with excellent food and service, its like a special night out every day of the week. The L'Entrecote restaurant, fantastic steaks with smoked salmon, king prawn or crab cake starters as an example. Bombay restaurant, excellent Indian food. It would take to long to sing the merits of them all but you have Chinese, Eest (Asian), Luxor, (Egyptian), Mai Thia, (Thia) Chino, (Lebanese), Rosmarino, (Italian), Teppanyaki (Japanese) Sushi, Seafood, and much more.
We particularly liked L'Entrcote and had returned visits. Although we didn't try the Teppanyaki everyone we spoke to who visited it raved about it as did those who tried the Italian. Finally a special mention about the Hot Rock restaurant , A hot lava slab is placed on the table where you cook your own choice of meats or fish, excellent experience set in a wonderful ambience.
Now the hotel, spotlessly clean throughout, rooms, public area's toilets and I don't think I've come across swimming pools that were so clean.. Bedrooms are spacious with huge balconies, patio doors leading onto an area containing 2 lounge chairs plus a settee (cane furniture type) then a large archway leading out to a small balcony. bathrooms are a good size although I suspect will be subject to a refurbishment programme over the next couple of years. 3 main pools, the largest is a 'walk in' family pool with a depth from 0-1.4m. The second 1.5m deep but much quieter and the third (and smallest) 1.8m but nearly all adults and a very quiet and relaxing area. Sun beds are plentiful and comfortable with the pool staff very quickly getting to know your preferred area and will have beds and towels ready for you in the morning. We used to arrive around 9am every morning and were treated with an Ice bucket contains water plus a couple of cans of coke (I requested one on the first day and hey presto !) My wife enjoys a coffee around 11am, our pool guy Kareem, would come to us and ask 'Would Madam like her coffee now'. Around midday, they come round with Iced face towels, a welcome & refreshing touch (it was around 40oC) and mid afternoon a small platter of chilled mixed fruit.
Now to the staff, all are excellent with a clear culture throughout of "the customer is paramount".
They have a very strict training programme with our pool attendant having 2 half day courses during our 10 day stay. All are excellent but I must mention in particular Mohhammed Ibraheem (Kareem) a rather shy timid person but couldn't do enough for us, brilliant, I will look forward to meeting him again on our return (yes, planning our visit in Jan next year) as with 'Pakly' the towel guy that greats you with a smile so wide it makes the pool look small and a set of teeth that reminds me of the caricatures of Barak Obama. Get to know those guys, they make your stay so much more pleasant. They are a credit to the hotel. I can't emphasise enough just how good the staff are at looking after their Guests, amongst the best in 40 years of holidays.
This was not just a holiday but also a wonderful experience, so much, we've cancelled 3 weeks in Tenerife (January) to book a return visit to the Savoy. And that from a couple that always said 'never go back, always try somewhere new', and from us, that's the ultimate recommendation.

Room Tip: Don't bother to upgrade to sea view, pool view gives a sea view anyway. Family rooms are disappo...

Dear Reviewer,

That’s a lovely, detailed, comprehensive review and we appreciate your comments.

Those staff you mentioned by name will receive points towards prizes in our staff motivation program and the department will get to hear of your compliments too. It is very important for us to get the feedback from our guests and pass it on to the staff in order that we can improve where necessary and get the psychological boost when we deserve it.

Probably a good decision to cancel the January holiday to the Canaries as you don’t always get the sun there and we don’t know of any hotels there that are as good as the Savoy.

We are looking forward to welcoming you back in January for your second visit.

Kind regards,

Jacques PETER

Dear Reviewer,

Good Day from Sharm El Sheikh – City of Peace & Tranquility

We would like to thank you for staying with us for third time at the SAVOY Hotel and for taking the time to share your detailed feedback about all the Savoy Group services and facilities. It is nice to read that you enjoyed your stay in the Hotel.

The Savoy has earned a reputation second to none for outstanding quality and service. Every feature has been designed to enhance our guests' experience. The Savoy embodies the highest traditional values, with exceptional restaurants, bars and entertainment. Spread over 200,000 m² of lush tropical foliage, waterfalls and serene surroundings, the Savoy lies at the heart of the spectacular White Knight Beach on the Red Sea in the South Sinai Peninsula of Egypt. The area is renowned for its natural beauty with a rich variety of flora and fauna, desert and majestic mountains. The hotel is 8 km from Sharm El Sheikh International Airport and in front of SOHO Square.

We are very pleased that you enjoyed Soho Square and its fine-dining restaurants along with the activities such as bowling and skating and the centre-stage with live entertainment.

Thank you for choosing the Savoy and please tell all your friends how safe and sound we are here in sunny Sharm El Sheikh.

We look forward to seeing you again soon.

Kind regards,

Jacques PETER

This is a sprawling complex quite close to the airport. A huge pool and a very nice beach area. The beach has a beautiful house coral reef where the snorkling is as good as any dive. The food wasn't especially impressive, and there were FAR too many children running around. A great family location, no doubt.

Reviewer,

Thank you for staying in Savoy Hotel Sharm El Sheikh on your recent vacation, and for having taken the time to share your experience on this forum. Your comments are very valuable to us and we are taking each observation very seriously.

We do indeed have a large property here on White Knight Beach in the Red Sea. Our house reef is arguably one of the best in Sharm and attracts tourists from all over to see the most diverse coral and marine life anywhere the world.

The positive comments on the pool and beach are very well received and have been communicated and accredited to the relevant associates.

With regard to the food here at the Savoy,we offer 12 à la carte restaurants; Hot Rock Dining (hot stone cooking), Morgana Restaurant (International) Seafood Island (Seafood), Eest (Pan Asian) Rosmarino (Italian), Tirana (Buffet), Bombay (Indian), Zen (Chinese), Mai Thai (Thai), Luxor (Middle Eastern), L’Entrecôte (fine dining steak & grill), Teppanyaki (Japanese) and Sushi Bar (Japan)In addition to Café Chino (Lebanese Café) and an All-weather Food Court Akuna Matata (Falafels, Casablanca, Noodles, Mana Pizza, Hola Tapas, and Fish Market). There is a lot of choice there and as one of our other reviewers commented, these are first class restaurants.

When deciding on a holiday, some people choose to book outside of school holidays if they wish to avoid children. They can also check the school holidays in the resort country in order to be sure. Here in Egypt, the summer holidays start towards the end of June so a lot of Egyptian families come to Sharm to relax and enjoy our facilities. A little research goes a long way.

We are looking forward to welcoming you back soon for your second visit in order to indulge you once again.

Kind regards,

Jacques PETER

We have just returned from the Savoy where we had the most fantastic week. I would just like to comment first that we stayed at the same time as the guests who have commented that the Savoy is a 2* and not as good as the Hilton. All I can say is that having read their comments they must have caught sun stroke on the first day.I dont think I have read such rubbish in all my life.Th bar staff at the pool bar were brilliant the service quick and efficient, funny we were never kept waiting for our drinks around the pool. One can only conclude that perhaps as we have seen from some guests who treat the staff as though they are servants with no please or thank you that you get back from the staff what you put in. Anyway that is my only grip.

We were on half board dine around which was clearly explained to us when we checked in after we asked for it to be explained. We never dined in the main dining room but went to each of the dine around dining experiences-brilliant.

Our room was very clean and large with lovely balcony terrace.

We were never once asked for a tip by hotel staff or hassled by the beach activities guys once a polite no thank you was told to them.

Would we go back? very big yes, in fact we are looking at returning in November.

Well done Savoy well done staff look forward to seeing you again.

Ken and Janene

Room Tip: Rooms around the pool sound great but can be noisy.

Dear Reviewer,

Thank you for your comments and especially for addressing the comments of a previous reviewer. I’m sure it helps all the readers get a more balanced view when taking all the opinions into account.

Our staff are well-trained and all guests will be treated with professionalism and courtesy at all times. You might just get a slightly bigger smile if you are nice to them – that’s all. Everybody appreciates a please and a thank you and a pat on the back for doing a good job now and then.

It’s good to know that the half board dine-around was explained to you and that you enjoyed it. A little knowledge about the resort, its restaurants and facilities can really help you get the most out of your holiday. We offer several different packages, from B&B all the way up to our S-Class ultra all inclusive with the choice of 14 à la carte restaurants with eateries from around the globe. We’ve also got the only Ice bar in Africa, onside Ice Rink, 10 Pin Bowling, Squash and Tennis Courts, 2 night clubs, concert stage and 100 quality shops just to name a few of Savoy Group’s facilities.

At Soho Square our guests and visitors from all the hotels around in Sharm El Sheikh enjoy a high standard of recreational facilities, including a variety of international entertainment and hassle-free shopping in one safe, managed resort. As we aim to help our guests relax during their stay, our S-Class plan also offers a free massage session, bowling alley, billiards, and tennis and Ice-skating access.

Once again, we would like to thank you for recommending our resort and we look forward to welcoming you back again soon to sunny Sharm El Sheikh.

Kind Regards,
Jacques PETER

Not being mobile due to foot injury meant that the hotel had to have everything!! And this hotel DID have everything - excellent room by the pool side, the best bar & snack service all day long from the pool bar. Staff could not do enough for you in all restaurants and bars. Room maintenance staff also great.
Thanks all for making this a good and relaxing holiday when most needed.
Particular thanks to Osama and all the bar staff in the pool bar.

Room Tip: Ground floor by the pool - patio doors straight onto the lagoon pool and bar!

Dear Reviewer,

Thank you for your positive review of your recent holiday at the Savoy. You obviously had a great time and we are delighted to have been involved in making that happen. You mentioned a number of staff, especially pool staff and they will be receiving points towards the Savoy Star employee recognition program where staff are rewarded for getting a personal mention or a letter about good service. Their points can earn them cash prizes or even holidays. That’s one of the reasons they work hard. Another is that they genuinely like our guests and want to make them happy. The staff spend a lot of time with us here at the Savoy and to get smiles from the guests means so much to them.

There are five swimming pools at the Savoy - 3 adult pools (2 heated in wintertime) and 2 children's pools (1 heated in winter time) - offering a relaxing day on sun loungers, protected by parasols. The main feature is a huge three-level swimming pool formed like lagoons, with a gentle slope for kids to paddle. There is underwater music in the pool surrounded by creative rock formations that lead down to the Savoy's secluded White Knight Beach.

Glad to know you liked your pool view rooms and the cool elegance of marble and wood reflects the Savoy’s luxurious décor. Each of the rooms and suites is furnished with high quality fixtures, designed to give guests a restful experience. The contemporary, superbly furnished rooms have balconies or terraces that overlook the lush grounds, the pools and the tranquil Red Sea.

We are looking forward to welcoming you back soon (hopefully fully mobile this time) for your second visit in order to indulge you once again.

Kind regards,

Jacques PETER

Just returned from the Savoy, and like nearly all the other reviews this really is a fantastic hotel. The service the staff gives is 'second to none' and always with a friendly smile and whilst we did tip they did not expect anything. The food at the restaurants are all as good as any first class restaurant and the fish restaurant overlooking the beach is a wonderful way to spend your lunchtime, i.e. king prawns, sea bass really good. The beach boy providing the drinks, works so hard and nothing is too much trouble. We had a ground floor room with a shaded terrace with a 3 piece suite and table and then a small lawn, then sun loungers and the pool (one of 3) with a swim up bar. First day a bowl of fruit was left in our room and second day a bottle of champagne! The free 25 minutes massage was one of the best and the free laundry service (7 items per person) certainly came in useful at the end of the holiday.

If you want to keep cool you are better to go to the beach as there is always a lovely breeze where you are taken to your sun loungers by the towel staff, again nothing is too much trouble. The snorkelling is great and if you have never done this you should try this. We took a boat trip which while not cheap it was worth it when we saw about 100 dolphins (definitely made our holiday)but please note, they usually only around about 5pm in the evening. Unfortunately my husband and I did suffer from stomach upsets but this did not spoil our holiday and be warned in June everyone seemed to have been bitten by mosquitos! Soho Square is great to get out and about to, with again very good restaurants and shops and not being bothered with people trying to get you to buy things. All in all this is a great place to have a holiday, if you want to feel special and enjoy good food and drinks, we definitely hope to return!

Room Tip: You must ask for a double bed, otherwise they will give you twin beds.

Dear Reviewer,

I would like to thank you for your very positive review of your recent stay at The Savoy Hotel. We are delighted that you liked our resort with all its facilities and services.

One of the recurring themes that our guests comment on is the welcoming smiles of our staff and the fact that that we do make that extra little effort to ensure we get it just right for you. We all help to provide the perfect ambience in which you can relax while we get on with our job of helping you relax.
We’ve got a beautiful beach with the most spectacular coral and marine life in the world. Three spacious pools with plenty of room and sun loungers around them and the best pool boys you could find anywhere all help to set the mood for a relaxing, laid back holiday.

Please be assured that our food hygiene is second to none. We invest a great deal of time, effort and money in ensuring that our raw materials are bought, transported, stored, prepared and served in the most hygienic ways possible and we commission outside agencies to come to the property and do spot checks. Your stomach upset is extremely unlikely to have come from the food served at the Savoy or in Soho Square. However, we are pleased that it did not detract from your enjoyment.

You commented that our restaurants are all as good as any first class restaurants and that is exactly because they are first class restaurants. The best ingredients along with the best chefs put our restaurants at the top and any one of them would not be out of place on the “best restaurants” guide to any major city.

We look forward to welcoming you back to the Savoy soon to make you feel special again.

Warmest regards,

Jacques PETER

We have just returned from a weeks stay at the Savoy booking through Fleetway Travel (Excellent deal and service from them) on a B&B basis. This was my second visit to Sharm having previously stayed in a budget hotel in Naama bay.

Arrival

I travelled as a group of four lads and booked 2 twin rooms, but upon arrival was told that one of the rooms had a double bed as they thought this is what was requested. The gentleman at the front desk Paul/Pete? was very helpful and said he would send a single bed to the room straight away, which he did. The bed however resembled an A&E bed so we requested another room which was quickly arranged.

Staff

Having read the reviews on how good the service is, I was left expecting more with a couple of the staff members letting the overall experience down. The best service we received was from a fellow Brit, Farah who was working at the hotel. She ensured we were looked after and gave her name as a point of contact should we require anything. The lifeguard/towel guy along with Hossam were also very good on a daily basis. However whilst visiting the cave bar on a regular basis for drinks and shisha we felt the service lacked a great deal from what we had experienced outside the bar. Amir and Zakariya seemed to be over worked even with a couple of customers and clearly showed their frustration at times.

Food

Breakfast was very good with a large selection of food to cater for different tastes. We ate at the seafood restaurant a couple of times which was also very good. Having booked on a B&B basis we tended to eat in Naama bay but there were plenty of options to eat in and around Soho square.

Location

Located very close to the Airport; there was limited noise from the aeroplanes when in our rooms. There was a shuttle bus service run to Naama bay but only twice a day, with the last one leaving at 14:30 and returning around 17:00. With Naama bay not coming alive until sunset this wasn't used and we opted to get a taxi from Soho Square which cost us 40 Egyptian pounds from Soho square as apposed to paying 100EP from the hotel.

Rooms

We had 2 Mimosa rooms overlooking the gardens which were spacious and cleaned on a daily basis. There were the odd minor niggles, with one being the lack of WiFi access in the hotel but you can venture out to Soho Square where you can access free WiFi.

Another minor issue was that the pool was too cold!

Overall we had a pleasant stay and met lots of friendly fellow Brits who made the stay more enjoyable. Free access to the spa was also an added bonus which helped cater for the jet lag upon arrival. I would defiantly recommend this hotel to couples and families however if you prefer the hustle and bustle of Naama Bay you might want to book something closer.

Reviewer,

Thank you for visiting the Savoy Hotel Sharm El Sheikh on your recent vacation and for having taken the time to share your experience on this forum. Your comments are very valuable to us and we are taking each observation very seriously.

We do appreciate your positive review of the hotel and its facilities. The Savoy and Soho Square offer guests a unique experience. The luxury of a hotel and resort with its own private beach fronting the Red Sea and the buzz of a square mile of restaurants, bars, discos and shopping. By day, enjoy sunbathing, swimming or the best scuba diving in the world. In the evening, be part of the excitement in Soho Square, the centre of the town's nightlife.

Thank you for the good comments on our colleagues’ service. We do work hard with our staff to ensure that they enjoy their job and this shows in the service they offer. Accordingly, the Savoy team spares no effort to ensure that all guests enjoy the same high-quality service. The staff members you mentioned will be spoken to re-trained. We hope it didn’t spoil your holiday in any way. A quiet word with one of the managers will always fix any minor problem like that, so next time, please do not hesitate to mention it.

The high-quality restaurants at the Savoy Hotel reflect the authenticity of each tradition. Each restaurant has been designed to provide unobtrusive intimacy for those wishing privacy and the flexibility to accommodate family and larger groups. The Hot Rock restaurant you highlighted with the Roman design, nice atmosphere and music. Cooking your own choice of meat or fish on a hot rock to your own taste can be very satisfying and Soho Square is a great entertainment centre to have on the doorstep. A hassle-free, safe place to dine, be entertained, to shop and to meet friends.

We look forward to welcoming you back again soon to sunny Sharm El Sheikh.

Kind Regards,
Jacques PETER
