It's hard to pick the best thing about this hotel. The food was lovely, especially in the three a la carte restaurants (one visit to each per week), which were Thai (My favourite), Italian and Egyptian. The hotel go completely out there for all of the themes, which was different every night. Everything was decorated spectacularly, and there was always something for everyone. There is a section of the restaurant for vegan food, diabetics etc.
The entertainment was another very strong point, though not all of the evening shows were great. In particular the Millennium show was quite good, however the Back To The Future show was quite repetitive and dull. During the day there was lots to do, sports, games, snorkelling, trips...
The teens club was a great way for teenagers to meet up, as was the kids' club, however there is a gap with the clubs as many eleven and twelve year olds had to tag along with the teens' club but weren't allowed to take part in the activities because they were too old for the kids' club.
The staff were very friendly and always say hello. The room was always very clean and tidy. One fault was that we asked for a Seaview room, though we could see the sea it certainly wasn't very close and we could only see a little bit of it, so that was a little disappointing. However we were offered to move rooms if we so desired, but it wasn't necessary. The rooms were still very nice and bigger than we had expected. One other problem was that our bathroom (room 14322) did not have hot water in the sink. It wasn't really a big problem until we had to wash our clothes. Sometimes the shower did run cold too, I think there may have been a problem with the water in our room because the room next door had no problem at all.
The pool area was always kept lovely and clean, though the floor was incredibly slippy so be very careful. The beach area was also very clean and tidy. The drinks served were very nice, with a lot of choice especially for kids.
The only disappointment of the hotel was the wi-fi, not only was it slow and unreliable, it was not available in the room or very far away from the terrace. Also, a password and username had to be acquired from reception every hour, and it was a bit of a pain. It wasn't a massive issue because we didn't need to be on the internet all that much since we were on holiday, however my friend was away from her parents for the first time and it would have been nice if she could have emailed without so much trouble.
The trips were very good, I recommend the water park for children especially. A word of advice though- the trip to Soho square is not really necessary. We took the trip to Soho square and then a few nights later returned ourselves, just going by taxi. Much cheaper and it means you do not need to stop off at any other hotels, you have unlimited time and you don't need to leave at a specific time to get the coach. Soho square is lovely, pricey and very very busy around 9/10pm, but still a great visit and would definitely return. The old market trip isn't great, though I would recommend going on the trip and not on your own, simply because the guide was able to show everyone some shops that don't hassle you, and they ended up being the best shops to buy in, really.
I would strongly recommend going to the Hard Rock Cafe in Nabq, it can be walked in about 15/20 minutes and a taxi only costs about £5. The food was fantastic, the service was the best I'd ever had and the whole place had a great atmosphere. The Rock shop was pricey, but full of tshirts that say 'Nabq' on them which will be hard to find anywhere else. There is also a Starbucks, Mcdonalds, Burger King, TJI Fridays etc. I was a bit disappointed at how commercial that area was, but it is all a tourist area so it is expected. Still, Hard Rock Cafe seems to be the best place to be. There are plenty of more traditional Egyptian places around the area.
Some advice, especially in places like the Old Market, the best way to check if the water is purified or not is to see if it has a little hole in it. If it is a full square with no dip or anything, then it is not filtered. The hotel only uses filtered water and there is always plenty available.
Overall, it was an excellent hotel and I would strongly recommend it.
