Just returned to a wet and windy UK after seven relaxing days at this lovely resort.

We were looking for a good value, good quality holiday. That's exactly what we got.

The resort is a 10 minute taxi ride from the airport. We arrived in the dark and once on site it looked very promising; dozens of palms trees all lit up with attractive lighting.

We had only booked the hotels basic garden view room. On checking in we were given a ground floor room in block 7. I asked to view the room before we accepted it.

We should not have worried. The room was spacious and cool with a nice big bathroom. Through the patio doors at the rear was a nice little veranda with a table and chairs, which looked on to lush gardens, we were not overlooked. We accepted the room without hesitation.

HANDY TIP: There is a small bank inside the hotel near to reception. It is open from 9am - 8.30pm, 7 days a week. The guy running the bank is very helpful, he will swap large denomanation notes for smaller ones with no trouble and no charge. The exchange rate was also good, much better than the best rate I could find at home.

We had booked their Ultra All Inclusive package. This was our 1st all inclusive holiday.
On the UAI package you need to sign a receipt for food and drink except for breakfast time in the Ramses buffet restaurant. This didn't prove to be a problem for us.

The resort is very well laid out with a fabulous, huge lagoon style swimming pool as it's centre piece. We spent every day laid out by the pool basking in the lovely sunshine and taking the occasional swim to cool down. Hotel was quiet, no need to reserve sun beds or restaurant tables - Bliss.

We found all the staff to be pretty good, some better than others, some exceptional. All the restaurants are of a good standard. We spent the majority of our meal times at The Palms grill which was very cool and laid back and also had exceptional views over the Red Sea. You wont see any building sites spoiling your view from this resort!

There is a beach and grassed areas by the sea with plenty of loungers. A set of wide steps lead down from the jetty in to the sea where you can swim with the fish in the beautiful blue water.

The UAI package does not extend to the lobby bar or the C-Lido bar and there are a few items on menus that require an extra charge if you wish to choose them. However there are plenty of lovely items on every menu that are included and there is really no need to pay any extra.

We didn't cane the all inclusive drinks, in fact we mostly stayed on bottled water and cappuccino's from the pool bar during the day.

We liked the Sky Bar for a drink in the evening, it was pretty quiet but very relaxing with lovely views over the pool and out to sea.
This resort was quiet and there was not a lot of evening entertainment, however this was why we choose this resort and it was perfect for us.

Took a taxi to Naama Bay one night, it was exciting and full of life, noise and bright lights, however it was exhausting running the gauntlet down the main drag. We had a great fish platter at a restaurant call Fawanees on the 1st floor of the Namma Shopping centre.

We have been to Egypt before (Luxor) and really enjoyed the fascinating history. This time we just went for the sunshine and to relax. The Grand Rotana Resort was exactly what we were looking for.

Room Tip: Ask to see your room first before accepting it. There are upgrade choices at a reasonable price.

We spent about a month trying to choice our hotel for our 10 days away. We read mixed reviews of many hotels in Sharm, finally based on good reviews of this hotel on TripAdvisor, we went for it. It cost us more than our budget but we felt happy with the choice for an All Inclusive stay.

We wanted somewhere which suited us as a couple but also somewhere our two year old would be entertained.

We had some issues when we first checked in but Ahmed on reception bent over backwards to sort out our problems. Our room was big and although basic suited us down to the ground. It was a bit rough round the edges. Not really well looked after. A bit tired. We arrived in the evening, so enjoyed our first buffet meal on our all inclusive stay. Plenty of food variety, but the desserts were a bit hit and miss. The second day we really got to explore the resort and enjoy time by the pool. The resort is fantastic. Plenty to do for a couple and as we were with our 2 year old, there was provisions for him too. All the restaurants the food was of a good standard. Especially Silk Road. Palms Bar and Grill by the sea is also good. One surprise was the Italian. The food wasn't amazing but quite tasty. On the all inclusive you obviously can have what you want. you get bottles of water included, i know some places don't do this in Sharm. In terms of places to relax, there are tons of places to hide. C-Lido is a really nice chill out area. When we were there the hotel wasn't full, but enough people for a good atmosphere. Always sunbeds to find by the beach and the pool.

The staff were amazing. They loved our son. He was quite simply a king whilst we were there. They really have a genuine nature and smiled at us like they mean't it. The service was slow sometimes, but the rat race was left at home so it didn't bother us.

A special mention to Bahaa (Palms Bar and Grill) , Eslam (Working in Ramses and Palms), Mohammad (Seemed to be everywhere), Mohammad (Mezzaluna), Ibrahim x 2 (Pool bar and Sky Lounge), Mostafa (Ramses), Ahmed (Reception) and a couple of others but don't remember their names.

The only thing that we didn't enjoy about the hotel was the arrogant and incredibly rude nature of some of the Russian guests. The way some of the kids spoke to the staff was completely out of order. But what can you do about that?

Our choice of hotel was really solidified when we left on the shared coach back to the airport. Some of the other hotels near by were awful.

Room Tip: We were in block 3. Blocks 7, 8 and 9 are not great. Next time we will try block 1 or 2.

Stayed in this hotel for 14 nights on a B&B basis, it is an excellent hotel with all the facilities expected of an Egyptian 5 star hotel. Used all four of the restaurants over the two weeks and enjoyed each one, Silk Road was our favourite but the lighting when eating outside was a little too dark but inside was perfect.
The pool is very large and more than enough sun beds for everyone without the 6am race with the towels.
We had a couple of small issues with the room that were resolved very quickly after just one call to reception, Abraham who serviced the room (3019) was great did a perfect job everyday and nothing was too much trouble.
The marine life from the hotel beach/jetty is amazing no need to go on any boat trips as you can see everything from the hotel beach with a snorkel....
I would really recommend this hotel and will return for sure, not full of British holiday makers so also gives you the feeling you are in Egypt not Blackpool.

Got a shock when went to the bathroom and there was pee splashed on a toilet seat! 2 dirty towels in the bathroom.
Toilet blocked. Stayed there for one night, tired so could not be bothered to complain to the reception. This was shocking, you do not expect this from a 5 star hotel.
Hotel is modern, huge, very impressive, not a cosy feel, more like a little city.
Breakfast was amazing, so much choice of everything you wish for and very high quality. Coffee was bad and had to wait for it for long time. In all breakfast was the best part and the coral looks amazing so don't miss it :)

We stayed here for 5 days after touring Egypt for 11 days.. \we wanted a hotel to relax at without too many disturbances. This proved to be and excellent hotel and had very helpful staff. The couple of issues we had were dealt with promptly and effeciently. The resort is peaceful and quiet with well seprated areas from the usual suspects of noise, pool, kids creche, volley ball, etc and was it was great that you have so many choices of where you want to lounge. i don't think theres a straight path anywhere which adds a touch of privacy. We picked one of the more secluded enclaves and didn't have anyone walk past all day. A long stretch of reef from the beach means that you probably don't need to go out on one of the boats, we saw too many fish to mention, just wait and they appear from everywhere. Overall we would definitely stay again

Room Tip: If you want total peace and quiet ask for block 1 or 3.

A friend and I stayed at the hotel for a week in early November. I had been to Egypt before but this was her first time. Previously I had stayed at the Sheraton but the Grand Rotana surpassed in every way what they offered.
On arrival we were greeted quickly with minimum fuss around paperwork and we did not have to produce a credit card for purchases nor, as we were staying ultra all inclusive, had to wear a wristband. A golf buggy took us to our room which was a twin deluxe and overlooked the pool with a full view of the sea beyond, lovely.
The room itself was large with a very nice bathroom and a safe and mini bar. There was a flat screen TV which we did not use (accept for a peak to see who won the US Presidential election!). The room had a veranda which was nice but nothing special, I guess the view made up for that.
On collecting our towels on the first morning we were escorted to where we wanted to sit and the towels were placed on the sun beds for us, this would have been the same every morning but we chose to do it ourselves. Around noon each day someone would come round and offer you a cold towel which was wonderful as it was hot. The pool was really cold but once you were in and swimming it was really nice and very clean. The Infiniti pool overlooking the sea was like a hot bath, beautiful! We did not go into the sea As it could only be accessed from the private beach of a jetty and the currents looked strong and it was deep. This was a disappointment and the only area where the Sheraton competed as you could walk into the water from their beach and be totally surrounded by the fish.
As ultra all inclusive we could use all the restaurants and get drinks from the pool bar - the exception being coffee and sparkling mineral water! Oh dear another Cuba Libre then please.....Every transaction made had to be signed for at the time and staff checked your entitlement before asking for your signature. We did try to use the lobby bar but were told that this was not included and we'd have to pay, when we said okay there was a bit of a surprise on the barman's face but he did serve us.
The food was excellent particularly in the Italian Mezalluna, where the service was also the best. The hotel's signature restaurant The Silk Road was disappointing and the service was poor (noticeable because everywhere else it was so good). The food was itself good but I ordered reef caught fish with a ginger and soy sauce. When it arrived the fish was swimming in what I can only describe as bisto gravy, it had totally ruined the taste and texture of the fish so I could not eat it. The staff tried to get me to order something else to the point it was all a bit embarrassing. We did return another night and the rack of lamb was delicious. The buffet restaurant is best for breakfast and you are waited on attentively with coffee and tea. Word of warning the portions are big!
The service in the Sky lounge for drinks was excellent and the staff always remembered what you wanted and were extremely friendly and polite. Some evenings there was entertainment, folk dancing, sax and jazz etc.
As we were not flying until 7pm we were given an extended free check out time of 5pm which made our last day very comfortable.
Two very minor things were a blot on the week. One of the escalators to the restaurant and reception did not work and friends came to meet us and were only allowed in the lobby area, such as pity as we would have paid for anything that they had.
We totally chilled during our time at the Grand Rotana and would definitely go back.
I recommend it highly.

This hotel is just a short transfer from the airport 10mins but surprisingly you get little bother in and around the hotel from flight traffic.
At this time if year & out side of Uk school holidays the hotel was not over busy but comfortable.
We had a standard deluxe room with a garden view.
The room is large but has a noisy air con (luckily at this time of year it didn't have to be on at night) the space in the room is not well used with two very large beds each 4ft wide leaving not much room for seating there is a desk with a pay internet point and work could be done from that. An old style tube TV sticks into the room on top of a mini bar, a small safe is provided in the wardrobe. Complementary tea & coffee.
The bathroom is large with a modern feel with a good size walk in shower the fresh towels & complimentary soaps replaced daily, with dressing gowns & slippers also provided.
We had a look at a superior deluxe room this had in addition a sea view a balcony room was the same size with a flat screen TV & the bathroom had a bath & shower with a bday.
The gardens around the hotel are tidy & well kept and always have a team tending them. The main public areas & garden are kept very clean and there is always a team working on them the rest of the staff are always very helpful.
This hotel would not be ideal for all as it has 96 steps from reception down to the pool but there is a series of 4 escalators to help then a further 89 from the pool to the sea.
The hotel has a very large swimming pool that must be nearly 100m long with two islands in it as well as a smaller children's pool with a water slide. Then a small infinity / jacuzzi pool. The sun beds are high quality & plentiful with a towel service.
The beach is man made on many levels on the rock and of a sandy grit construction. Access to the sea is via floating or a static jettie that take you out beyond the coral to a coral cliff edge (you can't touch the bottom) The water is inky blue & crystal clear swimming or snorkeling with an abundant array of fish that are feeding in amongst the coral. It's like swimming & diving in a well stoked exotic fish tank. In my experience equally as good as scuba diving in Jamaica last year.
The beach however is not ideal for young children.
The hotel has a buffet style main dining restaurant then three further restaurants for all inclusive customers or to pay for if your full or half board (expect to pay £25to£30 each for two courses). Even for all inclusive guests these restaurants had dishes that had additional charges. The best restaurant by far is the Palms sea front that serves many seafood dishes.
Upgrading to all inclusive at the hotel was about £30 a night each. Cheeper if booked beforehand.
The main restaurant had a good selection of food but was a bit the same night after night. Breakfast was great with a good selection, cereal fresh fruit selection of yogurt. Made to order omelette, fresh bread cheeses & cold meats. Sweet pastries pancakes & croissants with hot options not all of which I consider as breakfast.
The bars are expensive compared to UK pub prices
But they are recognized brands
Single G&T costing £7.50
Brandy at £8 to £10 a shot
500ml local beer £3.20
330ml Heineken £3.40
Coke (330ml can) £1.80
Bottle of wine £22 upwards
We booked on line two days before arrival, very last minute, so didn't do our home work properly we should have gone all inclusive as there in no alternative bars or restaurant within walking distance. You cant walk along the beach to the adjoining hotels. Soho square is a 5 min taxi ride away & Nammy Bay is 10min ride away. The hotel does put on a free bus to Nammy bay 3 times a day.
Would I return to this hotel, is it 5 star? Yes I would return , but I would book full inclusive even though we like to eat out & explore. 5 star, in some ways it is in some ways it's not.
