“July 3rd - July 14th 2014”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 July 2014 via mobile

We stayed at Grand Rotana July 2014. We arrived at night and were met by an illuminated palm tree lined drive up to the hotel entrance. As we arrived after the dinner service we were offered room service if we wanted it. We grabbed a quick drink from the bar and went to our room in Block 7 overlooking the gardens. The room was very clean and spacious enough for me, my wife and 17yr old son. The air conditioning ensured we were kept cool at night and the fridge kept our daily bottle of water cold.

The following morning we saw the hotel in daylight and were not disappointed. The grounds were pristine and we very well kept, with a team of gardeners already hard at work. From the hotel entrance gate, through to the furthest corner of the grounds the gardens were always well presented.

We went to the restaurant for breakfast where there was something to cover every taste. The waiters, and chefs worked very hard to ensure everyone was catered for, nothing was too much trouble. A special mention must go to Ashraf the Restaurant Manager, and Malek, not forgetting the rest of the team for looking after us so well.
We went to the Palms Restaurant at the beach for our Included A La Carte meal, the setting was perfect, and the food was amazing.

The pool is massive and during our stay (July 3rd to July 14th) the most we counted in the pool at any one time was about 20. It did start to fill up on the last couple of days. There was never a shortage of somewhere to sit, eith round the pool or down by the beach. The pool bar run by Armia, with the help of Anwar, Ibrahim and Michael was a sanctuary from the heat, the attention to our needs never ended. As soon as we arrived at the pool a bucket of iced water was brought over to our sunbeds. When we were sat at the bar, the guys were always asking if our drinks needed refilling, and they were meticulous to keep everything tidy and clean.

The jetty on the beach enables you to get out over the coral and explore the reefs. The fish are very friendly and are happy to swim around with you. The sea is crystal clear and warm. You can hire a snorkel/mask & flippers from the dive centre for around £10 a day, so if you're going to do snorkelling a lot, bring your own or you can buy a set there for around £30-£40.
The beach activities, such as parasailing, wake boarding, etc, are run by Sharmania and their main concern is for your safety and enjoyment.

Mahmoud the towel guy was another that made our holiday. He'd put towels out for us every morning and when we came to the pool he would bring extra towels over for us. He loves Liverpool FC, but we didn't hold that against him!

If you're looking for a great hotel, for a relaxing holiday... Look no further the Grand Rotana Resort & Spa.

Not sure where to start really, the staff couldnt do enough for you, the hotel was spotless at all times, everyone made us feel so welcome and if you had any problems they will do as much as they could to sort it out, the rooms were beautiful with the sea view, perfect to wake up to every morning. Would definitely recommend and we're thinking of returning in December and maybe even back in the summer! I would like to mention certain members of staff who were exceptionally brilliant, please note this is in no particular order as to how amazing they are, Mahmoud (towel man), Armia and Anwar (barmen at the pool bar) served us many wild cocktails and smoothies with such good presentation and every morning coming along with ice buckets with water bottles in to start us off, two of the best people in the whole hotel, they felt like family to us. Evie the best rep we've ever had, so welcoming and brilliant at getting everyone involved. Yahia (cold towel man and water spray) never failed to come round with a cold towel to cool us down as the temperature was 40+ degrees! The buffet restaurant, Rasha, Michael, Ali, and the Manager, maybe there are too many to name but none of them failed to make us smile and knew what we wanted after the first day of arrival. The service at the A La Carte restaurants made us feel as though we were royalty, absolutely fantastic, the food was better than top quality english restaurants we've dined at in London. We met some amazing people who also agreed with us about how fantastic the hotel was, please dont be swayed by any negative comments on here due to people obviously expecting different things, all of the above I couldnt express enough how brilliant this whole holiday was, and the tears that were shed on our last day proved just how much the hotel and the people had an affect on us. Thank god for facebook as we can keep in touch with the friends and the staff!!! We love Grand Rotana!

Room Tip: Block 1, 2, 4 and 6 are seaview and pool view

Just returned from 10 days at Grand Rotana in sharm. Celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary.
Very nice hotel with staff that cannot do enough to help make your stay even better.
Food a little repetitive in buffy restaurant but good food.3 other restaurants you can choose from at a reasonable cost. Resort clean tidy with great pool area.
Will revisit again and recommend a visit.

Room Tip: we was in block 1 room 1223 quite and close enough to pool and main restaurants.

The word that i can only use to describe this hotel is Magnificent. Grand Rotana is like our home away from home, and we will be going again for our third time in 2015. Please ignore any of the negative comments that have been reported on here, as it is not even the slightest a true reflection of how awesome and sincere the staff really are. I would recommend this resort to anyone if you’re looking for the perfect holiday and money that will be worth every penny.

Location
The hotel is mind blowing, relaxing atmosphere and has beautiful grounds overlooking the Red sea and Tiran Island. We cannot praise the resort and the staff highly enough. Grand Rotana is roughly a 15 minutes drive from the airport and a 20 minute drive from Naama Bay. Luckily, Grand Rotana offered a free shuttle bus from the hotel to Naama bay every few hours which was very convenient.

The Arrival
We arrived 19th June 2014 mid afternoon, we knew what to expect as this was our second time. We were greeted by a member of the concierge team who was very cheerful, ready to take our luggage form the hotel entrance. We walked into the reception and we were welcomed back by the friendly staff that had remembered us from our previous stay. Check in was easy and didn’t take longer than 5 minutes. Prior to our holiday we had emailed Grand Rotana requesting a closer room to the swimming pool because we had a small child so it would be more convenient for us. Ahmed Semmary (front desk manager) accepted our request and upgraded us with a sea view room close to the swimming pool.

Sea view room
Our room number was 1005 and 1007, it was spacious, well maintained and close to amenities e.g. swimming pool, reception and gym. We were on the ground floor of the hotel we had our own patio and the view was excellent. The rooms everyday were cleaned to a high standards, we were really impressed with the cleaning staff.

Food
Unfortunately the food was a major let down. We were expecting that the food may have improved from the previous year but this wasn’t the case. We went all inclusive, but at lunch and dinner the food was repetitive. The hotel didn’t offer a variety of different continental food; no popular English food was offered e.g. chips. There were 3 a la carte restaurants within the resort because we were all inclusive we expected that we’d be entitled to all the restaurants however we weren’t. We would have to pay an additional cost of £10 per person. We had eaten in Silk Road (Indian and Thai restaurant), being Asian we had high expectations and these were met. The service was quick and efficient; all the food was cooked fresh in front of us and tasted delicious. we had ordered a birthday cake through room service for our reservation at silk road, the cake was mouth watering and exceeding our expectations. later we found out the cake was complementary which was a bonus. We’d occasionally took use of free drinks in the pool bar and after 3pm we’d be allowed to have snacks and offered ice cream beside the pool.

Staff
The staff were very attentive, polite and were always prepared to go the extra mile to please guests to ensure a pleasant stay. We were faced with a difficult scenario, the pushchair had broke luckily Salaama (concierge staff) fixed the pushchair wheel quickly. Hanny from the restaurant was really nice, always quick to approach us to take our drinks order at lunch and dinner time and had always had a baby seat waiting. We met Essam from the concierge team on last day; we received a very warm welcome back from him and told us that we are always welcomed at Grand Rotana. A special thanks to these specific people who had made our stay pleasurable.

Pool
Pools were lovely and frequently cleaned as was the beach area, certainly a place that would recommend for a relaxing holiday. Grand Rotana pool was huge, the biggest one in Sharm El Sheikh. The jetty into the sea was a great touch and had a beautiful range of fish and sea life in there what they’re know for. Entertainment in the evenings was limited but pleasant.

Cons
The cons are the wifi isn’t free, taxis called by the hotel are very expensive and at a fixed price, Ramses needs more of a variety of different foods (English) and it would be helpful if Grand Rotana offered a shuttle bus to Soho Square.

Room Tip: book sea view room near the pool.

The hotel is OK. It isn't a bad location but there is no beach really so be wary if you want that. Cleanliness is fair enough but we did change rooms as the ground floor sea view rooms feel very enclosed and gloomy.

We went when the weather was fine at about 30-31 degrees but the main pool was freezing as not heated at all. The Jacuzzi pool was good though but is small so as the hotel was very empty was good enough for us but limiting.

The AI package is a bit of a joke. It isn't AI if you stray off a very narrow path of places to eat or drink. That path is a single bar that is open and a mosquito delight. 50+ bites the first night alone and it is dead or shut by 10:30pm.

Buffet is not very nice for breakfast lunch or dinner with it getting worse as the day goes on. Rock hard chicken, grissle in most meats and some odd stuff too. Try spending 10mins waiting at the eggs station to then spend 15mins trying to describe a poached egg to the guy before giving up. Asked for a sprite once in the breakfast area or something other than water and was told i would be charged for it as was before 10am. Did the reverse by the pool and was told no drinks until after 10am including water. Don't even get started on the mini bar which is all chargeable. My recommendation here is to have them empty it and just bring drinks back daily from the bar when you return to your room else you are going to be always thirsty.

DO NOT BOOK THROUGH 'ONTHEBEECH.COM'. They simply tell lies and know little about hotels such as this. They are no help when in resort and their support for clients verges on negligence.

If you do go eat in Silk Road as a must as i agree with others that the food there is amazing. Then eat at the seafront restaurant as the staff there are actually chilled out and are very helpful. Great for drinks in the evening too as no charge.

The management and reps here though need to take a good look at their performance as is well below par.

Room Tip: Do not go ground floor. Always go sea view.

Having just come back after staying for 14 nights, i cannot praise the resort and the staff highly enough. From the time we pulled up at the hotel we were welcomed, and greatly impressed by the grounds of the hotel and how well kept the whole place was.

In terms of food, i cant really see why people complain about the buffet. Although it can be seen as slightly repetative, the food is still of a very good quality and although a few dishes have meat in them, there were many more without to cater for any vegies. We ate at the italian a la carte and the silk road (thai). The Italian was good, but completely blown out the water by the quality of the silk road. I would advise anyone who is at the hotel to eat there, as the food is amazing and you can have as much as you like.

The grounds of the hotel are so big that you can pretty much sunbathe anywhere, whether you choose to go by the massive pool or down by the beach. The sheer size of the hotel makes the stay even better, as unlike many other hotels, you can spend each day in a different area without getting bored. There are so many staff who are constantly cleaning/working, and it really shows the work ethic of the Egyptian people. I think a lot of English hotels ann their staff could learn a lot from this hotel!

When we found out checkout was at 12 and we wouldnt be picked up until 5 for our return transfer, the reception staff were happy to extend our room with no additonal charge. it is these small things that really makes this hotel stand out!

Overall i couldnt praise the hotel highly enough. We will be looking to return back again for sure!
