We stayed at the island view resort in August 2013 and had a fantastic holiday. We were picked up from the airport on a mini bus and taken to the hotel which took around half an hour. This will be your first experience of the tipping culture in Egypt giving a £1 to the guy putting your suitcase on the roof of the minibus seems to be the norm but not mandatory. On arriving at the hotel we were checked in at reception promptly and initially very impressed as the lobby area is very large, with marble floors and staircase being a very inviting entrance to the hotel. You will be taken on a golf buggy to the room which we were lucky to have a junior suite over looking pool 2 which was being renovated at the time but will now be fully functioning. The room was very spacious with a living room with TV with a few English channels and a separate bedroom with 2 medium sized beds with air conditioning in both rooms. The room was a little dated along with the bathroom but was clean and towels changed every day. The hotel was being renovated at the time of our stay but the work should be near completion and by the look of the refurbished rooms during our stay it will now be very smart.
The all inclusive is served in a large restaurant underneath reception which overlooks the pools . The breakfast was varied from toast/pastries/fruits/yoghurts/bacon/beans/sausage/cereals fruit juices, tea and coffee. The first meal of your stay will give you a chance to tip the waiter which for only £1 or £2 will guarantee that every time you come to eat at the restaurant they will set a table for you and bring you drinks to the table and give you a very personal service which is very nice. Islam looked after us for our 2 week holiday and was a lovely young man. Lunch and dinner are also served in the restaurant buffet style and are quite varied but over the 2 weeks there is some repetition of dishes. These ranged from fish to beef and chicken. The cuisine seemed to be geared more so to a Russian palate but seen as it is 90% Russians in the hotel its not surprising. This aside, if you're not a fussy eater then you will always find something tasty to eat. At Lunchtime there is the option of going down to the private beach which serve snacks such as burgers/hotdogs and fries. Also there is the option of having a pizza made for you in Fatimas' restaurant which overlooks the beach. There were 3 BBQ nights while we were there which all the all the food was cooked in front of you outside by the pool and was all delicious!
The complex is rather large but not excessively so that every aspect of the site can be explored without much trouble. There are 4 pools to enjoy, the pool next to the restaurant having a swim up bar serving a variety of cocktails/beer/wine and sprits which are rather good. we enjoyed the company of Mohammed at the pool bar who was the most friendly and helpful person we had the pleasure of meeting during our stay. He really made our holiday great!
The private beach which you will find at the rear of the hotel down a flight of steps is very nice. There were always plenty of sunbeds and the small bar serves alcohol and soft drinks from 11a.m. To have a swim in the sea you must walk along the length of the jeti to the end of the coral where you can enjoy the crystal clear waters overlooked by a lifeguard at all times which is reassuring especially for families. There will be people on the beach offering various excursions and we decided to book onto the star gazing trip and the boat ride/snorkeling trip out which were both absolutely fantastic and would recommend them both while you're in Egypt.
The location of the hotel is good being that it is a short taxi ride away from Naama bay and Nabq bay. Naama bay is very good for souvenir shopping being a lot cheaper than the shops outside of the hotel and a good 'new town' experience if thats your thing The only drawback is the amount of people trying to get you to come into their shops or buy things which gets a little annoying but if you're not interested just say No thanks and keep walking.
There are a few bars and restaurants just outside of the hotel but they are quite expensive so if you're looking for a cheaper night out try Nabq bar or Naama.
There is a supermarket right opposite the entrance to the hotel which you can actually haggle on the price of items as most of them don't have a price on. Don't let them charge you more than you were charged the previous day!
On a night you can enjoy a drink around the pool near the restaurant, the pool near Fatimas restaurant or the Victoria Bar near reception. The pool near Fatimas had entertainment on a night including Karaoke, Artistes and traditional Egyptian Carpet spinning!
The animation team organised a variety of beach and pool games during the day if you wanted to join in and on more adult based games an evening in the amphitheater such as Mr vs Mrs competitions which were fun to watch.
Overall we really enjoyed the holiday, the staff making it even better for us, just watch out for the Russian manners and etiquette which is very different to the English way.
