Gardenia Plaza Resort
Ranked #216 of 231 Hotels in Sharm El Sheikh
Reviewed 30 June 2014

Having spent a week from 21st June 2014 I can only say what an experience.
After reading all the mixed reviews hubby and I decided to keep an open mind.........
The good bits......
The hotel room-we were given a suite which was huge, cleaned daily had a triple size bed, fantastic air con and a good shower with plenty of hot water,tv in lounge and bedroom which both worked.
Staff.....very friendly and did their best to make your holiday fun. Sara is a gas! And the pool bar staff will willingly chat if you make the effort ( take your own pint sized glasses as theirs are like thimbles)
Book any trips through 007 james bond- brilliant prices and a friendly guy. We did the quad biking into the desert, plus camel riding all finishing up with a Bedouin meal and show.
Pool.....lovely and warm, plenty of Sun lounges and free towels every day.
Weather.........hot hot hot!! 42 most days
Now the bad bits.........
Food! As it was the local school holidays the week before Ramadan we felt the food catered for the Egyptians with meal times a guessing game. Don't get me wrong some of it was nice but after a week on eggs and bread for breakfast and either chicken/fish and rice for other meals it was repetative. The hotel staff will order in for you from MacDonald/ Kentucky Tec if you get desperate.
I'm not a fussy eater but I've had more choice on a 500cal diet!
And then there was the stomach bug,50% of people we spoke to had spent a day on relay to the loo!!! Which put a kibosh on our holiday as we dare not be far from a toilet- so out the window went scuba diving, snorkelling in the latter part of the holiday.
Naam bay- you WILL get hassled. Do not accept any guides wanting to show you where the bank is and t hen asking you to come and sign their book-it's just a ruse to get you in their shops and be warned some tourists have been locked in!
All in all-would I return to the Gardenia Plaza? If it sorted the food out possibly but then you get what you pay for.
Give it a go - at the minimum you,'ll get a nice tan and come home 5lbs lighter xx

So after reading some negative reviews me and my partner were very worried about going here. Firstly the simple things that people have complained about on here were not that bad, the thing that bothered us was that the resort didn't have what was advertised on the Thomas Cook website.

There was only one restaurant where the food was near enough the same every night. As I am a fussy eater all I had was rice and bread every night. There was one indoor bar and a pool bar with no charge, the shisha bar you had to pay for. The drinks were served in tiny plastic cups in the day time and glasses at night which tasted and smelt of dirty pot water. There was no nightclub like advertised, the 'pool bar' looked like it had never been in use whatsoever.

There were people who rented sights in the resort who bothered you every single day asking if you wanted a paper, a massage, a tattoo, a haircut ect and when you politely said no they would call you lazy and boring but still bothered you every night which got really annoying. One man grabbed my arm and started to massage without me agreeing so which was quite awkward.

The staff can be rude too, calling you lazy if you didn't want to take part in an activity. We explained that we wanted to relax however they didn't understand. The only member of staff who was genuinely nice was a bar man called Emad. He was so polite, always kept our glasses topped up when we sat at the bar he always made
Conversation and told us about his family and his home life. He made our stay feel comfortable.

Overall I would only return to Egypt if we was to stay in a different area. The beach was poor at sharks bay, there isn't any sand just rocks and you can't go in the sea unless you walk along a pontoon and jump in, which I wasn't keen on because it was deep.

However the weather was beautiful and I would return but to a different location like Nama Bay.

The hotel is rater 4 star however that wouldn't be classed as English standard, it's more like a two and a half star in my eyes.

My boyfriend and I have just come home from our first holiday, 10 days in Gardenia Plaza and we had an amazing time. The hotel is very clean and the staff are very friendly and helpful. The complex is large and the pools are great, very big and clean with lots of sun loungers around the pool side. The animations team are great and very good fun, lots of activities going on both day and night if you wanted to get involved. The room was very spacious, large VERY comfortable bed and our balcony was facing the swimming pool. Although the airport is close we had no trouble sleeping at night time, rooms had air-con and a safe and were cleaned everyday.

The food was more suited for the Egyptians but we always found some thing we liked. We were recommended to go for dinner at 7pm as that was the time all the English went, as after that it became very busy and there were queues and it was mainly Arabic families. The lunches were also nice. The breakfast was a bit bland and again more suited for the Egyptians but they had toast, fruit, pancakes eggs etc, with squash and tea and coffee (so we were fine).

The location of the hotel is slightly out of the way but thats not a problem as there are regular shuttle buses to all main destinations, Naam Bay, Soho Square and the beach. The little shop across the road is very cheap and sells bottled water, crisps etc for great price.

Very sad to come home after a great 10 day holiday and will definitely be returning to Gardenia Plaza in the future.

Just returned from this resort following a 10 day all inclusive holiday. As a party of 8 we had more elderly, middle aged and teenagers as part of our group. We found the rooms clean &tidy and adaquate for all our needs. The food was basic but we all found something suitable to eat at each meal time. The hotel staff were kind and helpful and went the extra mile to make our stay comfortable. All those people who expecting 5* treatment for a 2* price really need to wake up. Value for money, comfort and general holiday experience here is very good.

Right so I will start at the beginning... Me and 4 of my friends arrived at this hotel, first impressions were horrendous it looked like a building site from the outside there was even a pathway of wet cement that was blocking the only entrance so we had no choice to roll our suitcases through it! We got to reception and it looked abit better inside although was still a little grubby. We had 2 rooms with a conjoined door and we also overlooked the pool so it was great they were both clean and spacious so can't complain about that. Although after about 5 days we realised that the door wasn't automatically locking (which it should have been) when you left so we had left it unlocked over half our stay we complained and the manager said someone will fix it in the morning, they never did!
The pool areas were clean and there was always enough beds for everyone to go around! The pool bar was just a bar with no drinks actually being served there was 3 other bars 1 was in the reception (too far away) 1 closer to the pool which served warm drinks from the left out bottles and the other well it wasn't even included in the all inclusive! By the way bottles of water are NOT included in all inclusive and take pint sized cups too otherwise you get stuck with tiny plastic ones! Oh yes no glasses!!
The 1 restaurant the complex had is buffet style, there was an ok amount of variety although everything was left open so it was full of flies all the time. The hotel is very popular with other Egyptians mostly visiting from Cairo and most of them were very rude they would push in front of you, give you filthy looks and then eat all the food so there was nothing left for you and once it's gone it's gone so be quick! Also if your sitting by the pool in your bikini enjoy the looks of disgust!
The animation team were ok not the greatest if you ask for something they will say they can help then obviously forget but nether less they were friendly!
If you are unfortunate and have already booked then here are some tips... There's a shop opposite the hotel go there it's much cheaper and the shopkeeper is amazing! Also use the taxi man (usually parked outside the hotel) his name is Achmed (pronounced Ark-Med!) his lovely always gets you safely to your destination and very good price!

Just to clarify I wouldn't recommend this hotel nor would I stay there again! I would say it's a 1* at best!

Went for a cheap two week all inclusive break wasnt expecting much but was a great hotel, rooms basic but grounds lovely, shuttles efficient, lots of excursions available and whilst food wasnt what we are used to at home i still always managed to find something to eat. All inclusive drinks all taste the same but you quickly get used to them and the staff couldnt do enough for to help :)
