I stayed at thr reef oasis blue bay there is one word to discribe it and that is excellent, the only downside was there was no beer or wine in the mini bar as some times you do not want to sit in the bar and would like to relax on the patio, or at least have a shop that you can buy alcohol from, the pools are great we went to the adult pool was just a little disappointing that all the beds would be taken before 7am and nobody was actually on them. restraunts were absolutaly fab i cant believe the comments on here that there isnt much veriety it was great,
and as for the staff they were amazing expecially Nabil Tarik & Ahmed.
I have already booked again for next year

Returned early hours of this morning (22nd October). Had a really enjoyable holiday. Our room (1225) was huge with 2 x 4' beds, the downside of that is, when OH snores it's a long way across to give him a good poke. The walk-in shower was heavenly, I missed it this morning. ALL the staff were brilliant and couldn't do enough for you (and we didn't tip until the end). Even the shopkeepers just wanted to chat when they found out that weren't new to Egypt. We ate in the main buffet restaurant every night as we liked the choice of food, all very well cooked and great variety. We did two trips, one to Petra which was amazing with a brilliant Jordanian guide and we did the 'dinner and stars', which was very interesting, saw the milky way, Jupiter and four of it's moons and the north star.

There was only one criticism and that was the DJ at the Arena bar, not the acts but just him. He was so LOUD. After our trip to Petra we were understandably tired but were unable to just relax on our balcony.

My partner and I stayed here in the beginning of October. The hotel complex is massive but easy to walk around as long as you don't have walking difficulties. The rooms were disappointing for a 5 star hotel, very spacious but very basic but the tea/coffee facilities and stocked up fridge was great. The beds were not very comfortable and my partner and I both suffered from bad backs.

There are 3 main pools, the infinity pool, relax pool (over 18s) and the leisure pool (with slides). We had a day at each pool but preferred the infinity pool as it was close to the food and had lovely sea views. We never had trouble in finding a sunbed by any of the pools and we didn't get there till about 10am.

The food around the relax pool is not all that but the leisure pool is better. The Sea Breeze Restaurant is nice but a bit of walk if you not at the beach for the day, (get the bus back from the beach as the walk in the heat is a killer) but it had a good choice of food. We mainly sat by the pool and only walked down to the Sea Breeze one day for lunch, we ate at the Oriental Grill or the Carribbean Bar instead. The Bay View restauarant is a good breakfast choice if you not going down to the beach for the Sea Breeze Restaurant. We also ate at the Fisherman's restaurant twice which was very good with excellent service. We ate at Al Dente (Italian) once which was OK but the service we received was poor.

If you are going to snorkell by the beach take your own as to hire its about £5 per day

The Spa is amazing. We had various treatments and you are well treated. My partner loved the Super Sothys Massage so much he went back twice, this is a must.

We both suffered from dodgy tummies at different times and not sure what trigged it. Mine was worse so some tablets from the Pharmacy on site sorted it out but be prepared to pay about £12.

The staff are generally very good and helpful.

Dear Guest,
Thank you for your comments, I’m a little surprised that the rooms weren’t up to your expectations, we normally receive very good comments for our rooms and the comfort of our beds, once again I’m surprised .
I need to mention that the only pool we serve light snacks, such as sandwiches is our relax pool, all our other pools have full kitchen facilities, please accept our sincerest apologies for the poor service you’ve received in our Al Dente Italian restaurant. Overall I’m pleased that you had a relaxing time and enjoyed our resort, we look forward to welcome you back in the nearest future.
Kind regards from all of us

We stayed for 1 week in october in a deluxe room, which included spa gift voucher, late check out, laundry service and a seperate breakfast in the fishermans restaurant. The room on arrival was clean and spacious the bathroom was really nice. Our room was located next to the diving pool which is a 5-10 minute walk from the main reception area or you could wait for the tug-tug which is a little bus that takes you around the resort.

Breakfast we found was better in the fishermans restaurant than the bay view buffet restaurant, it was less busy and staff are more attentive although the food is the same it was a better experience. There is a huge selection, whatever you could possibly fancy for breakfast is covered. You can also go for breakfast at the Sea View restaurant directly off the beach, which we didn't try.

Lunch is a little less varied, the main buffet restautant doesn't open for lunch although there a smaller buffets set up around the various pool areas offering burgers, pasta, chips and salad etc. The Sea View restaurant off the beach offers more variety, with pizza, hot dogs etc, and you can order fresh toasties, salads and fish and chips from the 'Pub' and 'Carribean Cafe'.

We went for dinner in the Italian 'Al Dente' restaurant, which is included in your all inclusive once per stay, and you can choose four courses per person, with lots of choice (including some chargable) and it was all delicious. We didn't eat dinner in the 'Fishermans' or the French restaurant during our stay but were told by other guests that it was all lovely (although the French is extra, one guy said he'd spent £160 in there!!). The 'Bay View' main buffet restaurant was fine, lots of choice, all thoroughly cooked and fresh, staff are very quick to offer you drinks etc. The one problem we had in the buffet was that you can't both leave the table, if you do then you will probably return to find everything cleared away and someone sitting in your seat. Appreciate they're busy, though when you're with your partner it's not very nice having to go up separately and both finishing at different times. We would suggest that perhaps when they seat you they give you some sort of flag, which you could then return when you leave, so they would know the table is still in use. This was our only gripe with the food, and neither of us experienced any upset stomachs as some others have reported.

We tried all of the pool areas and found the best to be the 'Adult only, Relax Pool', seemed to get more sun, it is, as the name suggests, perfect for relaxing. Some people have mentioned the temperature of the pool - it was cool, not freezing, and just what you need to cool you down after a couple of hours sun. Who wants a heated pool in 38 degree heat?!

The leisure pool is more busy, and you always have the entertainment team asking you to join in with 'Soft Gym' and various other activities. This is fine for families etc, we found the relax pool suited us more as we didn't want bothering.

The main pool area outside reception is nice, very busy and can be difficult to get a sunbed here. There is lots of reserving going on. There is a small heated pool to the left with some big round beds, these are lovely though there are only three so you would have to get up at the crack of dawn to make sure you get one. There should be more of these, particularly around the relax pool.

The beach and sea are lovely, nice sand and clear sea, although it is a long walk away from the reception area, and quite awkward to get to. Would recommend the bus for getting to the beach.

In all areas you will be approached by the watersports staff, offering you excursions etc. This can be quite annoying. We suggest pretending to be asleep when you see them doing the rounds, it works!!

There are also three cliff top jacuzzis, one heated, we sat in one for sunset and you get a lovely view out to sea.

Evening entertainment seems to be geared towards German guests (of which there are many), so we didn't really bother with it. As Thomson are the only operators offering this hotel in the UK you will probably find you are in the minority as British guests, as we did.

There is a shopping bazaar within the hotel grounds, we didn't buy anything from any of the shops, but be prepared to haggle for everything, as nothing is priced, even in the resort. We tried a Strawberry Water Pipe in the Oriental Cafe which is 10 Egyptian Pounds extra, but very enjoyable.

We did 2 excursions during our stay, both via Thomson reps, the first was the 'Red Sea Cruise' which we loved. A whole day of sunning out at sea with 3 stops for snorkelling at 'Ras Mohammed National Park'. The food on the boat was delicious too.

We also went to St Catherines Monastry, which we were a little disappointed with. It takes 2.5 hours to get there, and when you do it's only open 2 hours per day. We saw everything within about 15 minutes and were sat on a wall for about 30 mins waiting to go! It is a lovely monastry with lots of history, though there really is not that much to see. You have a 15 min uphill walk from the car park to the actual monastry and there are people offering camel rides, taxis etc. It is a very hot walk and as you have to cover your arms and legs to visit, very tiring, though the taxis are unneccessary. In the car park area and all the way up the hill there are people trying to sell you everything, from guide books, to bits of rock. You even have to pay to use the toilet, which are disgusting!! The highlight of this trip was the lunch in a bedouin tent, in the middle of nowhere. It doesn't sound appealling but the food was really tasty, and it was nice to do something that felt authentic, after having burgers for lunch almost everyday at the hotel. The drive back was horrible - nothing to see but desert and mountains, and seemed to go on forever. It was nice to say we've been, but not a recommended trip.

We paid £39 for each trip via Thomson, which we both felt was too pricey. I'm sure you could get local tour operators to offer the same excursions at a lower price.

Overall the Reef Oasis is a lovely hotel, the staff cannot do enough for you and never ask for tips, the grounds are beautiful, rooms perfect. Would definitely recommend a stay here, and would definitely return myself.

We stayed at Reef Oasis Blue Bay Resort in early Oct 09 for 10 nights. It was our first holiday with our 1 year old baby and we took considerable care to select a resort that would be child/ baby friendly. I have summarised below the positive and could be better aspects of our holiday at the resort and some tips about Sharm El Sheikh as a location at the end.

Positives

Resort – The grounds, buildings, swimming facilities and general architectural layout of this resort are excellent and really well maintained. I don’t think we ever saw a single sign of any sort of litter or dirt anywhere. Given the size of the resort – this is a very impressive achievement.

Room – We stayed in a Junior Suite fairly near the reception and were incredibly impressed by the size, fixtures and fittings in the room. Having viewed a deluxe room too, the only real difference between the two is the fact that you get a bath and a shower in the junior suite along with some dressing gowns and bathroom slippers. Both rooms were excellent! The AI drinks in the minibar were a real bonus and being able to send 2 bags (one per person) of washing away for them to return wonderfully washed and ironed was marvellous!

Food – Generally of a high standard and we stuck to the buffet at the Bay View every night, alternated between the Fishermen’s and bay view for breakfast and ate at the Sea breeze for lunch. We avoided the a la carte restaurants (Italian and Seafood) as they would not have been comfortable for our baby. The buffet was very varied, off high quality and we never got bored of it – the desserts and breads are to die for!

Beach/ Snorkelling – Found this area to be dominated by Russians and fairly occupied by the time we got there (9am). For snorkelling and diving enthusiasts – the house is reef is probably the best I have ever come across (includes some really good reefs I have experiences in the Indian Ocean and Caribbean) and you need not go far to see the beauty of the Red Sea

Service – The staff are incredibly hard working and very friendly in most parts of the resort. High chairs were available in every restaurant but the anti-bacterial wipes we took with us were very well used – no point risking anything with a little one.

Negatives

Smoking – Perhaps because we are used to the stringent rules supporting non smokers in the UK but there was not enough segregation in restaurant areas, the resort bus which was irritating.

Lack of waiters in Sea breeze – Excellent setting but let down not by the waiters who worked there but more by a perceived lack of waiters – there seemed to be too much work for one waiter to do. Have to say that this issue was only really felt at this restaurant for some reason – perhaps the management could look into this as this issue comes up consistently.

Queues at BayView – I don’t mind queuing for a short while when it is really busy but I think the only reason why queues occurred was due to the inefficiency of the table allocators (or hosts) at the start of the restaurant. This was an aspect really well managed at the Seabreeze who were often under the same amount of pressure.

Tips about Sharm

Visas – unless you are leaving the region of Sinai (i.e. going to Luxor or Cairo) you do not need one.

Naama Bay – The hotel provides a free shuttle (book a day in advance with reception) from 6h - 8pm which is sufficient to get a feel. If you want to do some proper shopping you may want to get in a taxi which you can either get through the hotel or just outside the entrance of the hotel – either way pay no more than 80 Egyptian Pounds return. Also do not go anytime before 5pm as it is hot and a lot of shops are closed.

Old Sharm – We did not go there but will definitely make a trip next time.

Upset tummies – Got these a couple of times and put it down to the heat and different diet but there was nothing we saw to suggest that it had anything to do with food at the resort. Drink lots of bottled water.

Baby products – we ran out of formula and baby wipes near the end of the holiday and ended up getting some in Naama Bay. If you do not want to head into Naama then you pay 50% more but can get everything in the on site pharmacy.

Overall

This is a fine resort where the huge positives greatly outweigh the very minor negatives. It is well run and of high quality and we will definitely consider going back.

We stayed here for a week at the start of October and really enjoyed it. It is our third
consecutive trip to Sharm and this was definately the best hotel we have stayed in. (The other two being Hilton Sharks Bay and Reef Oasis Beach). On arrival we were allocated a deluxe room near the leisure pool which we refused as we are a couple on our own and did not want to be bothered with loads of children. We were then given a room close to the relax pool which was perfect. The room was beautiful, very spacious everything you needed and extremely clean. With the deluxe room you can take breakfast in the Fishermans restaurant which was very good. Great choices and the fresh orange juice is all inclusive in this restaurant. We ate in all the restaurants and had no problems in any of them. The food was excellent throughout with lots of choice. The sea view restaurant is lovely for lunch.

The resort bus was well used when getting to and from the beach having to carry the snorkel gear. Snorkelling was excellent along the reef and we saw many fishes here we have not seen on other reefs in Sharm. Access is good from the pontoon.

The staff were all very helpful and polite and we did not feel under any pressure to tip although we did tip the room boy and in some restaurants. The tips in the restaurants are all put in a box and shared between all the staff which is very fair.

We spent time in both the relax pool and the infinity pool both of which were lovely. Beautifully clean and plenty of sunbeds even though people did put towels on them and never used them all day!! Great views from the infinity pool across the bay and lovely sunsets.

The reception staff were very helpful, we managed to forget our travel adaptor and they lent us one without any hassles or deposits being required. They also arranged a late checkout for us on our last day until 5.30pm. This is also included in the deluxe room subject to availability.

The shopping area was very pleasant to walk round with good banter with the staff. Be prepared to haggle without being insulting. The prices are higher than in Namma bay but if you don't buy from them they can't survive there.

We went into Naama Bay on one night and had a meal at the rooftop Camel Bar - very good but it is advisable to book in advance. There was a noticeable difference in the attitude of the shopkeepers this year with less hassle from them and quite a polite nature from them as opposed to previous years where we have been dragged into shops and forced to buy.

One last word on the hotel gardens. The staff work incredibly hard to keep them looking great and they were beautiful all around the resort.

Overall a great October holiday in the sun.

My hubby and I stayed at the Reef Oasis for 2 weeks in September, and wouldn't hesitate to go back in future.
The resort is beautiful, and absolutely spotless, wherever you go you there will be someone cleaning/gardening (we saw the reception steps being cleaned at 4 in the morning) and all of the staff are really friendly. I have to mention Maher in the pub who always brought over our 'usual' before we even had a chance to ask for it, and Ahmed in the main restaurant - lovely bloke! The grounds are huge, and everything is concentrated round the reception. Our room was a 5 minute walk from there, but sometimes we found the free 'tuf-tuf' bus that goes round the resort an easier option in the heat!
The food was beatiful with plenty of choice at the main evening buffet, and we also ate at the Italian and Kebabgi grill. Other reviews have mentioned the additional charges for some items at the Italian, but there is more than enough to choose from without having to pay anything. Snacks were available during the day at the pool bars, and 24 hours at the pub and Caribbean bar, so you will never go hungry! We were also happy with the all-inclusive drinks. The cocktails could be a bit weak, but the rose wine was like knockout juice! During the day we mainly stuck to water and soft drinks from the pool/beach bars, and the fridge in our room, refilled every day.
My hubby is a big fan of snorkelling, and spent a couple of hours a day in the water, which he absolutely loved. There were so many different types of fish, and the water is so clear you can see so much just sitting on the jetty looking in. One evening a giant eel swam directly below the jetty, and there were a few lion fish around too.
We booked a few excursions through Thomson - Cairo and Luxor by air, and the quad biking in the desert. The Cairo & Luxor internal flights were a strange experience(!), and they were long days, but I would definitely recommend them. Our guide in Luxor (Saafa) was excellent, even though we were all flagging in the 45 degree heat! The quad biking was also brilliant fun - just prepare to come back hot, sweaty and covered in sand!
We only had a couple of little niggles. The first was our room - we had booked a standard room, but the one we got seemed quite small with only 1 tiny wardrobe that just fitted my clothes in. As there was no other storage hubby had to leave all his clothes piled on a shelf! When we mentioned this at reception we were told 'some standard rooms are smaller than others', and as the hotel was full we were unable to move, so beware room 5214, not that you spend a lot of time in your room anyway!
Secondly, it was practically impossible to get a decent sunbed around the pool (the relax pool in particular) or beach unless you got there early. One morning we got to the relax pool by 7, and while there were about 3 people there, nearly all the beds were taken!
Overall though, we really loved our stay, and wouldn't hesitate to go back again, although probably at a cooler time of year!
