The Kanabesh is a budget hotel with a five star location. The entrance fronts onto one of the main streets in Sharm and the rear entrance leads straight onto its own excellent beach.

The hotel itself is a collection of Arabic style rooms fronting onto the central patio / swimming pool area. The pool has loungers and tables around it but is usually very quiet as the beach is only 50 yards away.

The room was very basic. Two beds which were quite hard (the bed itself was tile covered concrete and the mattress was 'firm'). I slept like a log however. There was a tiny living area with a small sofa, a fridge (no mini bar) a TV and a coffee table. The TV only had Arabic and French channels but one of the Arabic channels (mbc2) shows English films with subtitles so it was ok. Our room was on three levels. The sleeping area down stairs, the bathroom up a few stairs and a terrace on the roof. The bathroom was ample but had a shower and no bath. The room generally felt a little cramped and we did not really have much space for our suitcases. On the plus side the staff kept it spotlessly clean and who wants to sit on a hotel room on holiday anyway. There was individual air conditioning badly placed above the beds. It was easy to control between mild and ferocious.

The food was satisfactory to good. Breakfast was buffet style and was very good with cornflakes or cocoa pops, a range of buns or rolls with butter and jam or honey, hot items included beans (Arabic style) sausages, hardboiled eggs, potatoes, vermicelli with milk. There were also eggs cooked to order as you waited as well as fruit juice and coffee or tea.
Dinner got a little boring after two weeks with usually chicken and beef (sometimes fish or calamari), a selection of carbohydrates (poatoes, pasta and rice), Two kinds of soup, a selection of fruit and cakes for dessert. No drinks supplied but they didn't mind us bringing then in which was a lot cheaper than ordering them.

There are also two or three restaurants, one Indian and one steak / fish house, which do meals a la carte. We had sea bass before we left and it was excellent. You get a reduction in the restaurants if you have booked half board and are not having the buffet dinner.

The beach was cleaned every morning and had sun loungers (free) and hammocks (pay extra). You get cards to exchange for towels for the beach but don't lose them. We lost our cards and had to pay £10 to get another two. The sea has its own little coral reef for snorkelling around.

Good location for diving as it is also next door to the Red Sea diving college and across the road from the Camel school of diving.

Generaly impressions of the hotel were basic but spotlessly clean. Staff were friendly and helpful. Some noise from the streets and night clubs of Sharm but not unbearable. I would recommend it for anyone wanting no frills accommodation right in the centre.

This is my 3rd visit to Naama & my 3rd hotel.
The location of Kanabesh is SUPERB! 1 minute to the 'strip', 1 minute to the beach.
However, this is not the hotel for you if you want to spend much time in your hotel. The room was tidy with towels changed daily, sheets weekly. The water run warm/hot on 9/10 times.
The room itself was very rundown and in much need of TLC. Some problems i had were fixed quickly: the toilet handle was very loose, the bathroom and terrace lights inoperable but all repaired the 1st night. The bed had the thinnest of all mattresses and was the most uncomfortable thing i have ever slept on. The electrics were very poor, with the sockets loose and faulty connections, i did actually blow them once when i tried to plug my hairdryer.
The pool area is spotless and usually very quiet as the beach is just yards away. there is a pool bar which i never seen open as there were no guests to use it.
The dining areas are also clean and tidy with the restaurant providing very good food at reasonable prices and the tables were full every night. Evening entertainment was acceptable.
All the staff were helpful, polite and eager to learn any English (or WELSH). Credit to ALAA one of the waiters for his service.
The beach is stated as 'private', but i know that other hotels use the beach by agreement. I also noticed other people using the beach for a fee.
There is some noise from the strip but nothing that is too unbearable.
The other guests i spoke to were: French, Russian and Isreal.
I booked Half Board as it was only £2.50 extra per day, so i knew i had food to 'fall back on'!
Breakfast consisted of buffet: Hot and Cold, cereal with powdered milk (i bought my own milk and used that), pastries (not always fresh), tea / coffee / juice or if you wanted fresh juice it was extra cost.
Half Board was evening meal: Buffet with standard rice, pasta, then usually a seafood dish, chicken and beef dish. It was bareable but i would not have been able to eat this every night! i managed 3 nights of the total stay.
The restaurant menu on the other hand is great! Very reasonably priced (lobster 40.le = £4), fish to choose out of the fresh chiller etc - 100% better than the buffet!
The alternative choices of restaurants are numerous and most produce great food at excellent prices. Ones to highly recommend are: Camel bar roof - steaks, Pomodoro - Pasta / Pizza, China House (top floor Naama Shopping Centre), Red Star Fish Restaurant (old town). I have never had any stomach upset due to food but i do not drink tap water, use ice or eat salad just as a precaution. There is now a TGI Fridays (camel bar is better), Mc Donalds, Hard Rock Cafe and also a Pizza Hut in progress.
I was over in Sharm for the diving so I ended up at the hotel and beach for 6 days (split into 3 day blocks) out of my 12 day stay. Had i been on a standard holiday i would have been very disappointed at the hotel but as i was using it as a base only, it was sufficient. It is not a 3 star but a 1 or 2 at most. It is worth noting that all star ratings in Sharm are exaggerated - if it states a 3, most likely its 2!
Naama Bay is changing each year - it is now very much a commercial tourist resort with the common tit tat that comes with it. Do not come here if you want a taste of old egypt, but as a cheap holiday resort it is good.
