“Welcome Back”
Reviewed 12 July 2011

What a welcome, I cannot express my delight to the wonderful welcome back greetings that i have received upon my return to the Sofitel in Taba, The hotel must see loads of guest that come and go and ones that return year on year like myself, but the staff and the hotel never seem to tire in welcoming you back as if it was your first time. It is such an un spolit resort and hotel that just oozes relaxation, everyone you speak to agrees and no one can really but a finger on it. You have to experience the surrondings and the hotel to appreciate what we are trying to say. It gates harder and harder not to return their, value for money coupled with excellent service, facilities and sun. What are you waiting for!! It is the Number One Hotel in Taba Heights let no one tell you otherwise.

We have stayed all over the world and though we have visited hotels which excelled in some aspects, this is probably the best overall. Although there were 4 coaches checking in at the same time due to flight delays, we were in our room with our cases inside 30 mins and the restaurant was still providing food late at night!
Our room was always kept clean and we rarely saw our room boy until he came to find us because he had retrieved our camera from the waste bin in our room where it had accidentally fallen!
The food was always good and often excellent especially the crepes and honey puff balls.
The Asian Restaurant do a great banana flambe.
The Thomson Rep was refreshingly calm and efficient at the welcome meeting and always around to help. When we mentioned in passing how loud the music was from a neighbouring hotel she spoke to the manager and he rang the hotel in question resulting in a reduction of volume!
The Management Team listen to suggestions and act on them whenever possible and there is a general ethos of good service which is evident throughout the hotel. They also seem genuinely pleased to see visitors and they don't hang around for tips although they are so helpful you would need to be a real scrooge not to give a tip for service which is so good.
If you want a really great dining experience for a special occasion then pay to dine in the tower. Your own waiter, soft music and superb views. Expensive but very memorable.
My husband is a very picky eater and he could always find something to eat in the restaurant and he is also very critical about the service he receives but there were no complaints on this occasion. We will definitely return.
The ony downside to out holiday were the thoughtless visitors who go to the beach restaurant and sit on the upholstered seats whilst their swimwear is still wet. Dry off folks so other people don't have to sit on damp seats.

From our arrival to departure we were treated extremely well. The staff were very friendly, efficient and helpful at all times. The hotel exceeded our expectations as it was so clean, spacious and furnished well.
Taba is relatively unspoiled so is ideal for a relaxing holiday, swimming, sunbathing and resting.

Room Tip: Rooms with either views of the sea or Mount Sinai are equally lovely. All are quiet, spacious and be...

We arrived 3 hours late and they kept the restaurant open for us and didnt rush us to get us out either. Our room was gorgeous with a fantastic sea view, ( especially good to watch the sun rise at 4.55am) an amazing sight. The staff were excellent, polite and friendly and "not in your face" looking for tips, although the odd £1 coin does go a long way. The hotel itself was absolutely fantastic and spotlessly clean at all times and i mean at all times as i was up n about one morning at about 3am and the night staff were busy cleaning as per usual. The food was excellent and always a very good choice, morning, noon and night. My partner (THE EGG BOSS) has an allergy to eggs and she was given the star treatment from Rasheed the restaurant manager and the Head Chef plus many of the staff who were also told of this condition. She was met every time we entered the restaurant and was escorted to the food area and personally shown what had egg in or on, so she knew which foods to avoid, now that is what i call first class service. Whilst i was away i encountered a few problems back home which needed urgent attention i explained the situation to Mohamed Hammady the front office manager and within minutes myself and my girlfriend were led to his office and given use of his personal computer, photocopier and fax machine to use to help me sort out my troubles back home. In fact Mr Hammady told me that all his staff would help me as much as possible and as and when i needed them, and sure enough every single time i asked for their help they did so with a big big smile, May i just thank every single member of the reception staff for helping me in resolving my problem i had at home. A credit to the Sofitel, to which i am very grateful for all there help. Mahmoud would greet us in the morning as we went to collect our towels, always with a smile and some cheeky chat. Not once did we see a grumpy or miserable member of staff and they bent over backwards to attend to our every need. Overall our experience of the Sofitel at Taba Heights was one of sheer relaxation and pleasure and we will most certainly return there some day very soon. One person who i forgot to mention was in fact Asaad who was one of our waiters and who was indeed one of the nicest most genuine people i have ever met and will be sure one day that he will meet his goal of becoming a manager because he fully deserves it.

from the arrival to the departure, this hotel was fabulous. The room in block one was really good, close to the beach with amazing views of the beach and saudi. The food was varied and there was always something new every day.....samy the breakfast chef made us some amazing pastry creations for our breakfast, thankyou. our cleaner yassen was very efficient and taught us some egyptian words, very friendly and helpful, thankyou. Asaad in the main restaurant was fabulous, his help and frienliness made our holiday, he took time to explain things and had very good spoken english. Asaad arranged a birthday party for my partner while we were at the hotel and it was lovely, flowers made from serviettes, balloons on the table and a lovely cake, and they all sang happy birthday, very special memory. Rashed the restaurant manager was helpful and had a funny sense of humour and had us laughing most evenings. Our friend had an egg alergy and they made special food for her and went out of their way to make sure she had food at each meal, amazing service. We met some lovely people at sofitel and it will certainly be a holiday to remember, we will definately return next year. Snorkelling was really good, the house reef was amazing in the first week, although a bit too choppy in the second week as the wind was quite strong for snorkelling at the drop off. If you walk to the hyatt jetty early in the morning and snorkel off there, you may be lucky enough to swim with turtles, we did and it was beautiful!!!. No upset tummys, they use bottled water for ice cubes and wash all salad in bottled water. all in all a fabulous hotel and the best holiday ever xx

An excellent holiday. There is plenty to do if you want to: snorkelling, water sports, jogging or walking, gym, bellydancing etc. A few things really made the difference.

1. Snorkelling is fantastic. Try the Hyatt jetty early in the morning or before sunset. We saw a variety of fish: lionfish, a blue-spotted ray among others. The sea turtles feed off the green algae near the Hyatt jetty and come out at these times. You can hire a snorkelling set for 8 Euros by the beach at Sofitel or buy one in the village- just take the courtesy bus running every 10-20 minutes from the hotel. Cheaper to buy in the village than at the diving centre. Diving is great too, the coutresy bus also takes you to the Red Sea Water World- the diving centre. My husband says it was one of the best he has been too. Don't leave your Sofitel towel on Hyatt beds when you go there snorkelling- you are allowed to swim but not to use the beds- you will be asked to remove your towels or face a fine. The Sofitel jetty is good too, but a lot of windier.

2. Sitting outside the terrace for meals at the Alladin. It was truly relaxing and yes romantic with nice background music, felt like going out for a meal, the waiters didn't rush you, excellent service ( thanks Mahmoud, Mohammed etc), no queues to get a table outside which is normally the case in the European resorts we have been to. The food was varied and plenty, probably a strong four start quality by European standards- we were completely happy and enjoyed the local dishes and the grill evenings. You pay for expresso, freshly squeezed orange juice and lon-local wine. I stuck with the Egyptian wine, it was okay, but won't be missed. If you eat outside, don't leave leftovers on the table if you are going inside to get some more because the blackbirds and the sparrows will hop on your plates before you come back. The waiters try to shoo them away but they come back anyway. We were not too bothered although definitely didn't feed them.

3. Staff. Friendly, polite and most of them not pushing you or only being nice for tips.

A few practical tips:
Trips. Think hard about going to Petra with Thomsons if the boat option is still not available. The Egyptian authorities closed the port at the end of June , so the trip has at the moment been re-routed through Israel and Jordan by bus and costs around 211 GBP per person. We were poorly informed about what we might expect about logistics and timing. We waited an hour for our Egyptian guide at the border on the way back when most of us were near exhaustion. We spent ages at borders and on the bus , only 3.5 hours in Petra in the middle of the day. Petra is stunning, now that many of us have complained, hopefully Thomsons will make changes to this trip.

For stunning views of the bay and the resort, get up really earlyand follow the footpath up the hill behind the Hyatt jetty.

Forget the duty free at the airport and go to Eliat's shopping mall.

Try the sunset bar at sunset.

If you don't like walking email the hotel for a room in Block 1 or 2. Block 1 where we were has nice direct sea view and overlooks the main pool. Block 2 directly overlooks the sea and the the pool on the left hand side. Block 3 is the latest addition, most rooms overlook the quiet pool- from this block it takes a bit more walking to the main facilities.

Have a look around the health club. The gym is nicely airconditioned, with fresh towels and has a nice small outside pool. Free to use. The area inside with the hamman, hydromassage and the sauna are brand new , look fantastic, but there is a fee to use them. Get your rep to give a 10% voucher.

All in all, fantastic holiday in this man-made oasis in the middle of nowhere-we will be back in autumn.
